As a fellow historian from East Africa, I sympathise in the ways in which Somalia's history has been incredibly affected by political events, both external as well as internal, that have caused so much loss of the nation's undeniable history and position in East Africa. Perhaps the most important and most valuable physical history lies in the Islamic manuscripts, whose exploration could reveal so much more that remains yet unknown to a majority of scholars outside of Somalia.
Inshallah once in depth archeology is done throughout Somali inhabited territories will have a much better understanding of our legacy in the Horn of Africa
MashaAllah, excellent work. Looking forward to accessing the mentioned references. For sure the Arabs are a tremendous source, also if we could ever access to vault of the Ethiopian Coptic Church, apparently they have large volumes of documented encounters with Somalis eg wars etc. The European are the least relevant and poorest in this regard.
Somalis were mostly Sufis, but this began to change when some extremists, who had studied in Saudi Arabia, and the global Salafi movement which influenced the whole Muslim world, they returned to Somalia and established groups like Al-Shabaab. Saudi Arabia even bragged about some of these extremist youths, who were about to be executed in Mogadishu by the Islamic Courts Union, until Saudi Arabia intervened. Even within the Islamic Courts Union, the extreme faction, which was a minority, was fully backed by Saudi Arabia.
There are many old UA-cam videos about the ICU (Islamic Courts Union). Additionally, you can read the Julian Assange leaked papers about how the US funded and participated in the invasion of Somalia by supporting Ethiopia and the African Union. Watch the interview with US General Wesley Clark, where he talks about how, after 9/11, he saw a list of countries that the United States planned to destroy and replace with puppet governments. This list included Somalia. The Islamic Courts Union (ICU) could have truly brought peace to Somalia. It was an organic revolution that started town by town. They expelled the warlords, who had been supported by the CIA, and established law and order. I saw an interview with a woman in Mogadishu during the time the ICU was in power. She described them as a “gift from God,” saying, “We used to be raped, and people would steal without any repercussions.” Many experts referred to this period as a small golden age. The harbor of Mogadishu was finally reopened during that time, after nearly a decade. The ICU was primarily composed of moderates, and they used Sharia law because there was no functioning government. Somalis respect and fear the law of Allah, which helped maintain order. However, the US falsely accused the ICU of hiding Osama bin Laden. This led to Somalia being invaded by Ethiopian and African Union troops, supported by the US. They tried to re-establish the warlords as the new government, but this effort failed because the people rejected it. Eventually, they made a deal with some of the moderates from the ICU, some of whom later became part of Somalia’s government. For example, Sheikh Sharif, a former president, was once the head of the ICU, and the current president, Sheikh Hassan, was also involved. However, these leaders became corrupted over time, which is why Al-Shabaab refuses to make peace with them, labeling them as traitors. To be clear, I am not saying Al-Shabaab is good. They are extremists, and their ideology does not originate from Somalia. However, they were a minority within the ICU. The invasion and subsequent events turned them into a dominant force. Many experts criticize the US for its decisions, as the outcome ultimately led to the moderates from the ICU joining the government, while extremism grew stronger
Extremist has nothing to do with Saudi Arabia, the khawarij is sect appeared in khilaft Othman by a Jewish man called Abdalla bin saba, Somali were not Sufi, when Islam came to Somalia there wasn't any Sufism in Somalia, it's started later in Abasi and Othman empire
@AtlasAtlas-r6s it’s a fact Somalis we’re Sufis before the 2000s the biggest opposition group against Al shabab and other extremist groups was Sufi groups and the only reason they were an opposition was because these extremists had been destroying Sufi artifacts and graves also it’s a fact many of the extremists had been studying in Saudi and there is even a video of a Suadi sheikh talking about how he had to save his students that was about to get executed in Somalia and the Suadi king then intervened Al shabab is khawjits but the truth is many khawjit groups have studied in Suadi Arabia and other gulf countries it’s a well known fact who supported Al qaeda until they became enemy nr 1.
Somalis were masters and owner many Zinj(Bantus) aka jareers people untill 1930's. Somalis don't intermarry jareer until now even Some Somali Cushitic like madhiban or tumaal.
@@LakshaDeirwafor example the father of abgal was Somali but he married to a Bantu woman, do you understand that, I know many Somali people who are married to Bantu girls the children will be mixed with curly hair and dark skin

@AtlasAtlas-r6s Why would they child of a Somali and Bantu have curly hair? LOL. We already have Somalis with timo jareer. And those that don't have timo jareer have curly hair. The kids of a Somali and Bantu will have timo jareer 10 times outta 10 because jareer is the dominant trait while jileec hair is recessive. You're acting like Somalis have straight hair like Europeans so that when mixed with timo jareer it becomes curly. That's not us. We're the ones with the mixed hair. When you mixed curly hair and timo jareer you get jareer. It's the reality of the dominance of negroid traits. Anything you mixed with black becomes black.
Somalia is on the left when traveling north from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea, Yemen is on the right. Yemin-Shamal. Also Somali sheep are called “Blackhead Persian” sheep and were crossed with Dorset to produce Droper, a very common breed now in America and other counties. I don’t know why some Somalis are desperate to claim a history for us outside of pastoral nomadism. Mogadishu was never founded by us. Even Ibn Battuta in his travels said it was a city of foreigners. He distinguished the inhabitants of Mogadishu from the people in the exterior of the city he called "dark skin natives". The implication being that the people of Mogadishu were neither native to country nor were they dark skin. Somali peoples are defined by our nomadic pastoral roots. And there's nothing wrong with that. We don't need to create narratives of being at the forefront of international trade in medieval times.
@AtlasAtlas-r6s Why do his accounts agree with other travelers and historians? We have multiple sources saying Mogadishu was occupied primarily by foreigners. Also why is the city called Mogadishu if it was a Somali town? Everyone knows Mogadishu isn't a Somali word like Hargeisa or Galkayco. Why are there still non-Somali foreigners there to this day? Mogadishu wasn't founded by Somalis. I can't believe people are trying to fight this obvious truth.
