After you purchase an avocado, you should be able to feel if it soft by gently squeezing it. If it’s hard, you put it into a paper bag and fold it closed with either a banana or an apple. Typically 48-72 hours it will be ripe depending on the size. Smaller avocados take less time. The apple or banana both release ethanol which helps ripen the avocado. Also don’t store avocados in the fridge unless you want to slow down the ripening process 🥰
Thank you for sharing your information with me, A H!! It was a great help!! I wanted to try that on that super hard avocado, haha Anyway, I appreciate your kindness😊
I actually just finished making a biiiiig batch of yakisoba for myself just as I got the notification for this video! Hi Hanako. Thank you for another great video. I usually gently shake the avocado. If you can feel the pit shaking inside, it is ready to eat. Just make sure you don't make a scene in the supermarket by shaking it too hard! That is not a good way to gain attention 😆

It's a chocolate pudding with crushed Oreo and gummy worms. I try to keep the treats kid friendly so the girls can do it with me. We made mooncakes two weeks ago! The girls are really good at it because it's like playing with playdough.
I love this menu! The Bibimbap is my absolute favorite and it's always so lovely to see your videos just as I'm finished with my work week too. Thank you for another amazing video
Hi, Brittany!! It's easy and time saving!! I think you can make other dishes with different seasonings and ingredients! I hope you'll try it out!! Thank you always!!
I've finally caught up! Sadly, now I have to wait for the next video 😅 Your videos have given me ideas for my lunches at work. When I can, I'm going to order a Tamagoyaki pan. Thank you for your videos, and all the best from Australia 😁
Yay another video from Hanako 🙌✨️🎁 Unripe avocados are the bane of my existence so I understand the frustration 😭 They smell slightly more earthy when ripe but it's hard to tell for sure without touching 🥑 I always leave them in my fruit bowl to ripen and put them in the fridge if they're too soft! They taste the best with lime juice, chili, salt and pepper on bread, for me 😋 The acidity of the lime cuts through the fatty flavour and stops it from browning, win-win! The yakisoba looked so good, too 🤤 You gave me so many cooking ideas, as usual, so thank you Hanako! Have a great week ☺️
Hi, Beth!! Thank you for your kind comment again this week!! I'm happy you understand my feelings about avocados🥑 Your recipe sounds so yummy! I'll try it soon!! Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me. I appreciate your kindness😊 Hope you enjoy the rest of the week!!!
Here I am again at 1am, watching your video and craving yakisoba! Your food is so beautiful. You may like working with leftovers because you like food, but i think it also appeals to your creative side! I can talk about food all day. I love trying new foods, especially while traveling. Have a wonderful week, Hanako!
Hi, Meredith!! Your comment made me smile again this week!! I can feel your feeling that you also love food through your comments!! I also love to enjoy local foods when traveling. Hello, Hanako-san! Long time no see from my part. I have been very sick and was unable to message and check all videos. But finally I am home and I watched many of your videos. Thank you for always being cheerful. Your bento videos inspire me to feel better soon. And since I'm on a strict diet, at least I can dream about all the food I will eat once I get better. Oh gosh, that can't have been easy... I'm proud of you! I’m relieved and really happy to hear that you have recovered and that you are at home again!! Thank you for watching my videos and for sending kind comment, Laura!! Please continue to take care until you are fully recovered!!

Wow!! I'm glad to hear you make and enjoy Yakisoba!! I hope you try out the recipe!! Thank you always for your nice comment!! Have a wonderful the rest of your week!!
❤your videos! Yes I have had better avocados since I was told to pick the ones w stems still attached & they ripen better w not as much bruising inside. Good luck ♥️🐶🙏
When I was young at school I use to try to swap my sandwich with a girl who always had a better one ,I can honestly say I would try to swap my sandwich with your bento box and other money too lol! Your truly are the queen of bento so creative yummy! Thankyou for your videos 😂😊
Hi, Jodi!! Thank you for your nice comment!! It made me so smile!! I wish I could swap my husband's bento with your sandwich~😊Thank you always!! Enjoy the rest of the week!!!
Hi. I love your videos. I heard recently that you can wrap a whole avocado in aluminum foil and put it in the oven at a very low temperature (around 200 degrees) for about 20 minutes and it will soften. I haven’t tried it yet. 😊
I always enjoy the humor you add to your videos. :) The music volume this time was PERFECT and I thank you for adjusting it so we can enjoy the ASMR. What type of paper did you use to line the bento box and can you please show how you made it? If you can't touch the avocados, then the next best thing is to see what color is under the stem/cap; which is the round indent at the top of the avocado. Sometimes avocado skins can be very dark and you think it's ripe, but it might not be. So make sure the cap color isn't too dark but it should be more like a light brown and even if you pick one that still feels firm, then put it in a (closed up) paper bag with a tomato or banana and leave it for 2 days. It will ripen naturally. At 11:20 you see that stem was too dark brown (and if you removed it then the cap would be as well) then it means the fruit is over ripe. 12:11 that was a really nice effect/vision you did. :) Thanks for another colorful, delicious and inspirational video.
Hi, Heba!! Thank you for sayin that about the music volume!! I'm relieved you enjoyed the ASMR!! I use a common wax paper such as the kind used to wrap sandwiches and hamburgers. My method of making them is always too sloppy to insert them into a video, but I found a page with detailed instructions in English. Please refer to it!! www.doverpublications.com/zb/samples/483614/pc01d.htm If it's not clear, please feel free to comment at any time. Also thank you for sharing your great tip with me!! I always found it difficult to judge by the color of the skin only, so I thought it was a great idea to check the color of the round indent at the top of the avocado!! It's very helpful!! I appreciate your kindness😊
If you can while buying avacados place your hand in a bag to feel for the ripeness then turn the bag inside out while holding the avacado. Its a trick my mom taught me for when we wnet to the bulk barn (store where you can a little or alot of a varity of chocolate items, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, pasta and some dry stuff). If you are unable to do the bag trick usually the darker the skin is the riper it is but it could be over ripe sometimes.
Hi, Charmin hime!! I was so glad to hear that you enjoyed making and eating tonkatsu!! I hope you try out making yakisoba with the legendary housekeeper's recipe!! Thank you for your nice comment!! Your comments always warm my heart 😊
Hello Hanako, your bento boxes are so beautiful it is almost sad to eat them, except they look like they taste wonderful too! Are you professionally trained to make works of art such as you do?
Hi, Heather!! I didn't learn at any specific professional school, but I've loved cooking (and eating❤) since I was a little girl, and also loved to look at the beautiful decorations on food at restaurants or on TV😊 Thank you for your pleasant comment!!
I want to try your meat wrapped avacado and tomato recipe, it looks like a good way to get someone like me, who doesn't eat enough vegetables, to start eating more 😅.
That’s true!! I often make this kind of vegetable meat roll recipe because we can eat a lot of veggies with little meat, haha Thank you always for your kind comments!!
It's what my family does whenever we go out grocery shopping. My dad tends to buy around 7 early in the week and let them ripen in our home so we can plan accordingly and not based on if the store has any ripen one 😋
That is a great idea!! I was told in another comment about how to let them ripen so I can buy unripe ones and try that!! Thank you, Christy!! I appreciate your kindness😊
おはようございます、はなこさん ! Thank like always for you’re adorable video, I’m sure if a Miffy skill exist, you will be the master ! I feel so nostalgic everytime i see it… ( that remember me when my mom read it to me ), I hope you wont feel sick with avocado, take care of you ☺️ personnaly… my best time if i can say… is weird, like playing video game with my dad, spend a day with my mom at cooking or just chill together, working some time, i love my study so, it’s a real pleasure when i’m not sick 😅 ありがとうございます、はなこさん ! I feel recharged for this end of week, can’t wait for the week-end ! Je healthy, さよなら!☺️ P.S thank for the substitle ☺️
Hi, Crème!! Thank you for your kind and pleasant comment again this week!! I could imagine from your comment that you have a wonderful family and have grown up healthy in happiness! That's why you are so kind!! It made me smile!! Thank you always, Crème!! Have a great the rest of your week!!
When you can't peel an avocado, use a spoon to get all of it (¿scooping?). But the best is to just wait for it to be ready, it will be tastier that way! (someone from a country full of avocados hehe)
and bt, to know if its ripe (this is a variety of avocado called "Hass") go for the darker skin -> the more ripe it is. There are many varieties of avocado!
I can't offer any help when it comes to avocados 'cause I don't like them 😅The chicken looked delicious and that was a super good tip about how to make the skin crispy! I'll have to try it sometime. It's my birthday tomorrow so I'm visiting my parents today (as tomorrow I have to work) and my mum made a cake for me; the things she makes are never as attractive as your cooking but always tastes delicious (the power of mum cooking! 😂)
Happy belated birthday, dewdropmushroom🎉🎁💐I hope you have another wonderful year!! I wish I could eat your mom's cake🤤 Thank you always for your kind comment!! Have a great the rest of your week!!
I only ever thought of okra being a "Southern fried okra" kind of thing. Never expected to see it in Japanese cooking. (I had to google "where did okra come from?" lol)
What a coincidence!(?) Actually, until recently I thought okra was a Japanese vegetable. This is because the word "okra" is very familiar to the Japanese language. I remember being surprised to learn that it is also called okra in English!
When I go to buy avocado and test their ripeness, I gently give it a squeeze from the stem to bottom. If I feel a lot of resistance, too under ripe, but if it has some give then it's ripened! Hope this helps 😊
By look, look for the black ones with barely any green and the bumps still on it, but they are small. If its black and smooth, its more than likely over ripened and brown inside. If its black with a bit of green but the bumps still look kinda big kr hard, they arent ready. I'm no pro, but this kinda helps me when I shop and want to grab a good looking one before checking it (we can touch the avocados here). Its kind of an okay method and its usually right 70% of the time. It's not foolproof though 😅
Oh, thank you so much for sharing your nice tip with me in detail!! It's realy helpful!! I wanna go to the supermarket with your comment in my pocket and stare at each avocado and select one, haha!! And I really liked your honesty!! Thank you, J-baePop!!I appreciate your kindness😊
Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me. I appreciate your kindness😊I sometimes decide the menu for the next day's bento in bed the night before, so I need to be a carefully planned person, haha
Oh dang hun. That avocado was awful. My trick is picking the darkest looking one. Since you can't use the method of feeling one in the store I would ask if you can have a spare glove from the store supervisors so you can feel if it is ripe or not. But if you HAVE to judge by looks, go for the darkest looking one.
Hi, Victoria!!I had never had an avocado that hard before lol Thank you for sharing your nice trick with me!! It’s so nice of you!! I appreciate your kindness😊
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't explain it enough. It’s not that all produce in the store be not touched. For avocados many supermarkets do not recommend touching avocados to check if they are ripe because they can be damaged by repeated touching by many shoppers. So watermelons are okay to touch😊
Thanks for this! Just the info i was looking for?
Thank you for sharing your information with me, A H!! It was a great help!! I wanted to try that on that super hard avocado, haha Anyway, I appreciate your kindness😊
no! you press gently against the stem, if it goes into the avocado easily, its ready to eat
I actually just finished making a biiiiig batch of yakisoba for myself just as I got the notification for this video!
I love to cook. At some days i only want to cook the hole day
Hi, Hanako! What do you call this wooden lunch box that you use? Thank you. 😊 and thanks for this great video.
So if you can’t touch the avocados, I suggest buying the unripe ones and letting them ripen at home. Really tough if you can’t touch!
I like your videos! 😼
And a piece of advice for avocados, choose the darkest ones, green ones because they haven't ripened and brown ones because they are rotting.
Thank you for watching and for sharing your information with me!! I appreciate your kindness😊
use a spoon to scoop the avocado 😊 just a tip for next time
That works if the flesh is soft. This avocado was too hard though
Thank you sharing your nice tip with me!! I'll definitely try it next time I come across soft avocados!
😅😂😂😂 j'ai le même problème pour choisir un avocat 🥑😕. Courage et force 🤜🤛
Il est certainement difficile d'en juger sur la seule base de l'apparence 😂
Je healthy, さよなら!☺️
P.S thank for the substitle ☺️
Hallooooooo im still here, well, this looks ALWAYS so yummy, i really want to try it D: xD Thanks for the video
Hi, Smooth!! I'm really happy to know you've been watching my videos!! Thank you, always!!
Hers looked so pretty, like little green and white flowers 😍
What a coincidence!(?) Actually, until recently I thought okra was a Japanese vegetable. This is because the word "okra" is very familiar to the Japanese language. I remember being surprised to learn that it is also called okra in English!
soo pretty!! but how do you close it?
When I go to buy avocado and test their ripeness, I gently give it a squeeze from the stem to bottom. If I feel a lot of resistance, too under ripe, but if it has some give then it's ripened! Hope this helps 😊
Also the stem piece at the top. If you can push it a little with give it will tell you how firm the inside is, but also the paper bag trick too
Hi, Jennifer!Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me. I appreciate your kindness😊
Does your husband reheat his bento at work or he just it at whatever temperature it is by the time he is having lunch?
Here we say “buy early, use late!” Buy a firm avocado the week before you want to use it then you can use when it’s perfect!
Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me.
I appreciate your kindness😊I sometimes decide the menu for the next day's bento in bed the night before, so I need to be a carefully planned person, haha
Depends how far your avocado travels... far it’s picked green
You're right, I would love to try an avocado once it is harvested after it is fully ripe. ( That is very expensive in Japan).
More great meals and fun food. Ripe avocados will be very dark green to black in color and have a bumpy texture..not smooth
Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me!! I'll check their texture next time ,too. I appreciate your kindness😊
After watching your video , the fatigue of the whole day is gone😮💨
Hello 😊
🍜🍗🌯
i eat my breakfast before so i hope video doesnt make me hungry 😅
Hi, Mint!! Thank you for your nice comment! It made me smile!! Have a great the rest of your week😊
If the skin on your avocado is darker and there's no stem, you have a ripe (or mostly ripe) avocado. It may be a little wrinkled, too.
Hi. Thanks you for the recipe but can i change pork to others meat i'm at muslim can i change it?
I find it strange that you are not allowed to touch the avocados before buying.. thats how you determine the ripeness haha
You’re right! If possible, I’d like to touch and check every avocados thoroughly lol
You can’t touch your avocados before buying?
you can look at the tighten skin. If it haven’t been ripped yet, you can put it together with ripped bananas
Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me!! I appreciate your kindness😊
Thank you for making these! Im getting over a small cold and watching this made me feel better! (* ´ ▽ ` *)d
I'm relieved to hear you feel better now!! Thank you for your kind comment, Frog Overlord!! That encourages me a lot😊
@@hanakoskitchen8868 your very nice yourself. I hope you find a better on in the future. I can't wait for your next video!😁❤️
You can’t touch the produce in the store??? Then how do they expect you to know the ripeness of a lot of different produce?? Especially watermelon 🙃
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't explain it enough. It’s not that all produce in the store be not touched. For avocados many supermarkets do not recommend touching avocados to check if they are ripe because they can be damaged by repeated touching by many shoppers. So watermelons are okay to touch😊
I can't believe you're not allowed to handle the produce you buy. As many have said, the darker the skin the riper the avocado.
You're right! If I could, I would touch and choose each one myself. Thank you for sharing your nice tip with me, Christy!! I appreciate your kindness😊
