You always think you have
more time until you don’t
unable in words to express
to your parents how much
they mean to you
not able to convey
the gratitude you have
to your siblings
The desire for an extended
intimate weekend
where you really dial in
how much your friends
inspire you
so we store within ourselves
the beauty of connection
I’d love to tell the story
how you saved me
from myself
and from a lonely life
we live in a memory not shared
formed in a dream not dared
I don’t want to wait
for a deathbed confession
to pronounce how much I love
pass along my possessions
and hold onto that which
will never occur again
I find to truly be beautiful
you have to incur a sadness
that most people fear
to love that which is lost
the tangible replaced
with the memory
the solid form
fades away
touch is a whisper
of an experience
five senses know it’s over
but the heart beats on
I am formed by you
