At Jim Henson's Creature Shop in New York, Adam Savage learns how talented fabricators transform the characters from two of Jim Henson's earliest sketches -- the Glow Worm and Business Business -- into two sets of puppets that will appear live on stage in Brian Henson's Puppet Up improv show. It's a balance between recreating some of the mechanisms developed by Jim and his team in the 1960s, and using modern techniques like 3D printing to make the performance pop for a live audience. And we'd say they pulled it off quite beautifully. Do you agree?

I’m glad they’re rebuilding many classic characters for new audiences to enjoy! Even if it’s specifically for Puppet Up, it’s still nice to see these characters again that had an impact on Jim Henson’s legacy.

I am often amazed at how accessible the Muppet mechs seem. Anyone COULD make a lot of the individual pieces, but it takes imaginative genius to come up with them in the first place. It's truly the sort of imagination you only strengthen through play, which I suspect is why everyone seems so joyful when describing their work in the creature shop. I doubt you can do that kind of work without that kind of attitude towards what you do.

1:27 Every single time it shows that monster, and it opens its eyes and glares at the little green guy. It cracks me up in that way only Jim Henson's work can.

As much as I love the shop, it's a little sad that I immediately noticed the new Kermit is smaller than he used to be. Given the fact Kermit's original head was shaped for Jim's hands made it feel like honoring that legacy by padding out the other muppeteers' hands.

Anyone know how the puppeteer is operating that mouth mechanism on the big puppet?
I make human sized puppets with huge mouths and I use typical hand puppet mouth plate+ strap as the style. My way doesnt work perfectly I wonder if the henson folks are onto something with the "trap door" style mouth

I've heard you mention a program in some of your videos that scales images for easier printing. I don't engage in model and replica-making myself, but I thoroughly enjoy watching your creative process. While watching the 'Gods of War Axe' build, I thought to myself, 'Self, you can whip that up tonight... lol.' So, before I embark on coding it, I wanted to check to see if anyone has solved this issue yet. I haven't heard mention of it in a while, so I figured I'd ask. Here's what I envision: a GUI designed to allow users to upload image files and adjust the size. Then, divide the resized image into smaller 8.5 x 11-inch tiles or another print format, with the option to specify overlap percentages like 10%, or 20%, for the layout process. These tiles could then be used to generate printable sheets, allowing users to piece together a larger printed version of the original image. (it would of course be an open-source project for anyone to utilize)
