Good deal, give it a try, it's a small investment and easy for a DIYer. It may or may not fix it, but there is a decent chance if you're having similar symptoms
Thanks for the video, Just did mine at 250k. Very corroded and original thermostat mine was doing the same as yours. Only thing I did different is I did not remove the hose from the thermostat housing to save a step.

Thanks! Oh man, I definitely should have shown the gauge after. Definitely runs correctly now, got about 8k miles on this fix. Video editing at midnight has his pluses, as in stuff is getting done, but sometimes a guy can miss obvious stuff like that lol
I think for any Honda 3.5 Liter V6, a good compromise between the Honda OEM Thermostat and the cheap ones at Oreilly's is the AISIN thermostat/gasket. Its made in Japan and have used it on a 200,000 mile Ridgeline. No problems, it hasn't blown my engine, and I am confident in most products made in Japan.
@@RiggsGarage I might have to try it. For my Honda's that are < 10 years old I still use DW-1. For those > 10 years old I started to use the Idemitsu ATF Type H Plus. I think I will try the AISIN next time.
The needle on my 07 oddsey sits just below the water mark. Is that normal. It never goes above that. Fans never kick in either. So im assuming the engine never get up to operating temp? Please someone explain i dont wanna ruin the engine
@RiggsGarage yrah level is good. Replaced the thermostat also, did a coolant flush bled it and still the needle stays just below the water mark. Once it gets there I checked the upper n lower rad hoses there both hot so thermostat is open n cycling coolant thru rad. Just don't know why it's still sitting below the water mark
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a 2009 Honda Ody. My problem is that the engine fans won't turn on. I already checked the fuses, replaced both engine coolant temp sensors and both relays. On the dashboard, the indicator is at zero when the engine is cold, when it starts to warm up it goes up to the middle, but it never goes beyond there. But using a little bluethoot scanner I see the temperature go up to 210 F and even higher. But the fans don't turn on. When I put a paper clip in place of the relays, the fans work and the temperature returns to a normal temperature (170 F) on the bluetooth scanner, but on the dash it is always in the middle. Why won't the fans turn on if I change the relays and sensors, the fans are working and they are not damaged?. Do you think I need to replace the thermostat as well? Thank you.
Since the thermostat is very easy, I would throw one in and also make sure you burp the system very well. I have seen a few cases where there's a big air bubble right where the temperature sensor is and it doesn't read very well on the gauge / probably would not kick the fans on. If you have a bunch of miles on it, I would do the thermostat anyway and burp the system. Thanks for watching!
Had same issue overheats when car is sitting but when car moves temperature drops to normal changed thermostat and I have same issue what else could it be fans are working correctly
I did find your video very helpful until I got to the end and I couldn't remember which way the battery was. That would be my only suggestion. Remind viewers to watch that red for positive, green for negative and which side they were on when you take the battery out.
My valve was stuck so i couldn't drain it. Then i couldn't get the hose off the thermostat then the bolts for the wire harness was being bitch so they stayed on. So i said f*ck it and just took the thermostat housing out and yanked the thermostat off. Put the new one in, fill and burped it. It works good now. All oem parts.

I got mines replaced a couple months ago, and recently it’s been at cool. It’ll go up to normal and back to cool while I’m driving

Mine doesn’t have the those 2 bolts to remove the wire harness. If I had a swivel extension I could get the bolt out

Have you checked your coolant level?

what was the time frame start to finish. . . . actual time.
cause to me it looks like it would take 5 hours.
30 minutes or so, really depends on skill level and if you have the right tools

Probably do the thermostat, seal up the system, then do the flush sequence

Yeah it's been good for about 10,000 mi or so
But my heater is cold. Engine is overheated. Radiator is cold. It's thermostat or pump?
Not sure, I'd recommend taking it to a mechanic asap
Mine gets hot and doesn’t cool down even when driving so I think the t stat is stuck shut. Guess i through a t stat at it and see what happens.

Could be flow issues like clogged radiator, fans (yours seem ok), low coolant can act like that, air in the system possible
