Rumor of new music this year, Spiritbox never stops churning out bangers! Jaded has more transitions between cleans & screams than anything they've done before and I absolutely love it.
Edit: The Fear of Fear is a low-key concept album about someone trapped in a reincarnation cycle and learning to accept it

If you're not keen on the screaming aspect of their sound they do have some tracks without, or with not a lot of it. "The Summit", "Eternal Blue", "Too Close/Too Late" & "Secret Garden" are all great tracks where Courtney opts for singing only.

Like I said in the video, I really like the way Spiritbox balances the death growls with melodic singing. I think it's great when it's used judiciously, but when that's all a singer can do, I get kinda bored.
LaPlante kind of reminds me of early Phil Anselmo. Not in character or anything, but Phil used to be really good at balancing the screams with super-melodic singing (he doesn't do it anymore; it's almost all screams now), and it always made Pantera's songs super interesting and cool.

Courtney's lyrics tend to be cryptic word salads, which I think is unfortunate because they could be putting together some good stories or using words to get people going. Constance came closest to that and maybe Hurt You as well. But the fortunate thing is that it's still really great music and they've been my favorite band for the past couple of years.

I’m kinda with you on the growl. Sometimes it makes sense, other times more like a party trick. I’m not quite as enamored with this song. Done well but loses my attention. Suggestion for future Friday night video: Figure It Out by Royal Blood.

Yeah, totally. I think that has to do with our age group though. We want to hear actual singing, but I'm not sure their target demo gives a crap sometimes. These kids! They're terrible! And milk is too expensive! And that CLOUD IS BLOCKING THE SUN!
I'm sorry you didn't dig this one! I'm saving one of theirs to show Ladi for Halloween.

@@LikeMindedLunatics I did have the thought afterwards that I like lyrics and some hearing loss may be to blame. When they do the growl, I can’t hear the words nearly as well. Or I just need to get those meddling kids off my lawn.

The kids should DEFNITELY STAY OFF THE LAWN!!!
It might just also be a certain type of singing got imprinted on us at an early age, so it's just hard for us to switch gears. I feel that way with autotune or when things are too processed. It just doesn't resonate with me. But now that's a stylistic choice that kids have grown up hearing, so for them, it sounds natural.
      Getting old sucks...

@@LikeMindedLunatics you have no idea. My peers and I didn’t expect to make it past 40. Days like today, I wish I had expected it.
