The fact that he's charging that much for shipping deters bidders/buyers in itself. That's probably why they've sold for under comps. One of the first things I look for is shipping when I am bidding/buying. This is a scumbag move for sure.
Scumbag on seller and buyer. I sell on eBay many collectables from cards to actions figures and more. I get lots of buyers after purchase requiring me to double box at same price as he agreed to when purchased. So scumbags who want to negotiate after committing to sale are trash also. My pricing is based on cost of shipping at set box and weight double boxing costs extra for materials and weight. I do agree cards are different in general but my shipping has custom boxes to hold slabbed card and value of card insurance included. Most cheap buyers don’t want to pay extra for offered insurance because they know eBay will for a return for lost or damaged cards so you have to tie it into your price for your safety at least my experience on ebay
@@Darthkeldean Wait are you saying someone who bids on multiple items and then asks if the shipping will be combined? If so, that just seems like good business. You are unloading stock and they are buying from you.
@ expecting shipping to be combined even if it’s not offered in post is wrong. Asking go ahead expecting it is the issue. If seller don’t offer combined shipping in discrption I ask before I bid very simple. Once you commit to buy you can’t expect negotiation. Go to a restaurant they hand you menu with prices you eat the food and then you question the price and demand lower if they expect you to pay. I been screwed over many times on eBay by sellers I pay and when feedback time comes leave neutral review with positives and negatives. I believe buyer beware if you don’t see info you need in discrption ask seller before buying. I don’t offer refunds on eBay for a few reasons one who knows if buyer don’t switch out card for a damaged one and also I could loss to much if player his a slump after buying and buyer can’t flip card they return it and you sell again when player market down and you loss money .

If a person doesn't mention combining, contact seller. If they don't respond, avoid. If they don't combine, avoid. If you don't do this and buy and they don't combine shipping, don't pay. Also, check feedback. It's all up to the buyer to be smart about their purchases.
Some sellers on ebay have ridiculous shipping rates. Today I just sold a card for $40 and the shipping cost was $8.50 for a single card with a 1 touch. Didn't mind paying the shipping as long as the card went to a good home.
Fun fact: eBay won’t let you send an invoice for an international order. I just dealt with this yesterday. I ended up canceling all 3 orders, then relisting them as a lot for the Aussie buyer. But then again, I’m not a scum bag 🤣
@ when I tried yesterday I just had an error on my screen “invoices cannot be sent for international orders” This was US to Australia though. But it’s easy enough to cancel and relist as a lot.
@@TheGoldenOctagon I know at one point they were talking about it, but as of my last international order I had to get of list of everything they wanted and do that. It doesn't automatically combine and you can't invoice on orders outside the country.

I don't think it's a greed issue though in the US, it's more about ignorance of the system (casual sellers) or a business decision (Burbank for example).
Looking at the seller's profile, their shipping costs are all over the place, some indicating free, others $5 through to $15. Good to see he got negative feedback.
Agree 100%. Several years ago I bought two or three dozen autographs of an NFL player that went off in a game and didn't pay attention to who I was buying from. Turns out, they were all from the same seller and I ended up paying like $100 in shipping. Received a single package with no more than $10 worth of postage.
Guy using gold plated stamps to chaege $15 a card! Combing shipping always has led to more sales for me. I'm here to move stuff I'm listing, I may lose $4 or $5 on a total sale, but guess what? Those people usually come back again and buy more stuff!
I don’t sell a whole lot on eBay anymore but I always just charge people the actual amount it costs to ship. It’s just the appropriate and honestly easiest way to do it.
Won a bunch of cards from a seller for cheap, got a message from the seller that said "if you think i am going to combine shipping for these prices, you got another thing coming."
I charge the lowest possible cost for shipping. I just want to move em so I can buy more. I don’t get this. You’re not going to become a millionaire on overpriced shipping fees.
Amen mate!! As a fellow aussie, it’s something I’ve come across often! The other thing I’ve come across is when a seller is trying to sell a card 3/4x comp price. You send them a message asking if they are willing to listen to offers etc. Their response is to block you. You then continue to see the card online never bought due to ridiculous pricing. Some sellers clearly aren’t here for the hobby they are here to try and rip off buyers
I've had multiple listing like that. I'm 3k items sold, with 100% on eBay. Sometimes it's a player you're banking on and the current comp price is below or at grading fee or just low. I might have it listed for $60 and it's worth $20. Jordan Hawkins was a recent one. He popped off and it's now going for around $50-60. I listed it at the price for that very reason to catch it on the upswing. When I don't have offers on an item and someone messaged me I block. If I want offers I'll make it available.
@ how does blocking someone justify that you simply don’t want to consider or take offers? It’s a strange and unnecessary move. Simply don’t reply and move on with your day. Blocking means you’ve stopped yourself from potentially ever gaining a future sale from that person. It’s a weird and toxic move to throw out into the hobby community, it leaves a mark on that persons experience within the hobby also
@@TotallyFootballCards Because there's an option to allow offers. To flip that in reverse that means someone went out of their way to send me a message unsolicited. Are we 100% sure that eBay Standard International shipping program allows combined shipments? I don’t know eBay’s process to receive and ship a package to a non US location.
I have had many times I pay shipping say $1.50 and the seller uses the cheapest postage, like .67 cents and the post office says there is not enough postage.
This is usually an issue with respect to a small handful of postal workers who insist sports cards are non-machinable and require a 42 cent upcharge. The problem is the post office themselves are wildly different on their interpretation of the policy. Estimates are that about 2-3% of sports cards sent via plain white envelope are earmarked by "that postal employee" who will pull them and insist on an extra 42 cents for 'non-machinable'. The whole problem is that the eBay PWE only has tracking that works if it is scanned. But random postal workers will flag them for non-machinable (i.e. not scannable). If you have experienced a lot of trouble with items being upcharged or not delivered for "not enough postage" it is likely related to an employee at your local post office (or regional postal center) who is an avid 'flagger'. If that is the case, you can send a message to the seller letting them know you have a stickler post office. In that case you should always request items sent via package and avoid PWE completely.
Ebay lets sellers do almost anything the amount of time sellers have cancelled a transaction when they werent happy with the final sale price is crazy. It happened to me on a Giddey gold where they cancelled without telling me to relist it. I could not report it anywhere on the cancelled listing. Sellers can do almost anything they want
I put $5 flat rate shipping on all the cards I sell. When they buy more than one card, I keep it at $5. People have bought more than once from my small Ebay channel
Not where I live. Just to ship a bubble envelope with the slowest shipping through USPS, it costs about $4.50 on average. Ebay actually wants me to charge more when it calculates it itself. I just set the rate to $5 even

Good Afternoon, I am probably going to say something that may has already been said, or will be said later. If you have intentions of going after items from the same seller you must... Must... MUST contact the seller to "clear up" the shipping cost for multiple won auctions. If not,... IN MY OPINION,... You are completely bound by any stated cost that has been posted in that auction. DO NOT LET.... YOUR RATIONALIZATIONS of how procedures are supposed to occur get in the way of what the seller is RIGHTFULLY ENTITLED TO. Thank you.
Oh i definitely agree, how been this one was different. He said the postage price included card value. You can’t do that on eBay. It’s also a crappy thing to try and justify charging someone $75 postage across 5 sales and then ship all as one for $15….
Ive had buyers buy 2 items and pay for both shipping. I reach out and ask if they'd like refunded 1 shipping and I'll mail together. If they don't respond I just ship them separately using the money they paid for postage.
I currently have 7 different cards that the seller already combined and 4 more I'm waiting on to end. But the seller had sent me an offer on another one which I thought was ridiculously way too much and told sent him a counter offer that matches comps with a message explaining I'm the number 1 buyer of that player since 2020 and could teach him about his values if he would like. He declined my offer. Now I'm worried he's not going to combine the shipping when the other auctions are over.
As a new Collector this is a great Video Dan you see some really strange stuff on Ebay and Gum Tree even outside the card collecting hobby so much so now I stopped using these platforms as from a sellers point Ebay always looks to be on the side of the buyer and in my experience they where the ones in the wrong.
We've all been there. Good sellers, if you buy more than one card, even the ones who don't advertise combined shipping, do the right thing and combine s&h. One good seller simply went ahead and gave me a partial refund after the fact when he himself was putting the second, third or fourth card into the same package. The shifty ones don't. As a buyer I assume they won't do the right thing and bid accordingly. Expecting ebay to help is just lunacy. Not because they won't or don't help, but because it just avoids such situations. Do yourself a favor and bid accordingly.
I wouldn’t call sellers names because they don’t combine shipping. However, I think transparency is key. Some buyers assume, some don’t. If I don’t see that combine shipping isn’t calculating or they don’t mention it I assume they don’t combine shipping. I don’t just expect it .. just ask if unsure. Y’all keep on and you won’t have any store or eBay to buy cards from cause you expect people to run their businesses on fumes. Just sayin’ .. keep up the good work dude! Let’s all remember eBay is weird in this area but it’s all about the total price not what I paid for sale price + shipping price.
He said he wasn’t combining shipping because he considered the shipping as part of this card price. Thats why he got called names. You can do that and it rips people off
Yeah, some customers are definitely a holes. In this case I think we can say the seller was unreasonable considering they said it wasn’t for shipping and was for card value
Basically Dan........The sports cards industry has gone from a "Hobby" to a "Pyramid Scheme of sorts." Flippers find suckers to sell overpriced cards based on speculation and hype, the. That buyer in turn does the same thing as the card moves up the pyramid......this continues until the card reaches such an inflated price which tumbles instantly as soon as that player cannot ever live up to the hype, thus the Pyramid crumbles and only those who got in early or started the Pyramid made money. No care was taken in the player or the collection of the set. It has all become a "Sportscard Ponzi Scheme." Phahaque these boxes and cards. Stop buying completely. Sink Fanatics horrific pricing Gauging metrics and watch the industry crumble. Only this will bring the BS to its knees. Reality is........the Breakers will continue to feed on the Lemmings who find the local carnival game to be more thrilling than truly investing and making money.
Why are you paying $15 to ship one card? If a seller is charging one or two dollars to ship and you buy and pay for two cards seperately, then not refunding the 50 cents is legit as you get hit for fees on the refund.
If a reseller doesn't automatically offer combined shipping, I move on. I rarely ever buy a single item, and paying individual shipping rates means I might as well be paying above comps. No thanks.
First and foremost, the seller should combine shipping. There's nothing on eBay that says they have to and it should definitely say something in their listings if they don't combine, but they should for the sake of not being a jerkoff. Totally agreement there. One correction from your video. Whether an item is $20 + free shipping or $5 + $15 shipping, the seller pays the same amount in seller fees. It's still a shitty thing to do, but there is no advantage with seller fees in this scenario.
It’s against eBay policy to put card value in your shipping price… it’s also against AU policy to charge someone $75 across 5 sales, ship as one and then pocket the difference.
So I’m basically agreeing with everything you say. Sellers should combine shipping, it’s good for business and although most buyers are one-time, you want them to return. My perspective as a seller- my listings are set up for combined shipping. Buyers should make one payment and they get it. What I don’t like is when buyers make 4 payments, then want combined shipping. I try to accommodate but just addressing multiple emails and taking time to issue refunds isn’t cool either. Like many in the hobby, we have full time jobs and addressing silly issues takes time from our real jobs and family. Obviously, the buyer in dan’s example hadn’t made payment, so I would’ve combined no questions asked. Just my perspective.
eBay charges me there final auction fee on item sale price postage paid and taxes received. I asked them why on shipping and taxes they claimed it’s on all monies they handle on my behalf. So I don’t see how he is bypassing fees. I say he trying to make you feel you getting better deal $20 card for $5 while I turn you still spending $20 I don’t like sellers like this but they are allowed and are not required to combine shipping even when packaged in same box. Buyers need to ask more questions before bidding or buying also. Did post say we combine shipping if not buyers fault. You don’t negotiate after agreeing to a contract and signing it. Sellers like this are bad for eBay and also buyers who commit to buying item at set price and expect to negotiate a discount after purchase. Buyer not stupid he knows the value and the game seller playing
Then the seller should be including that in his card price. You cannot put card value as the shipping cost. eBay agree. If you’re someone who thinks it’s ok to charge $75 for postage and then post all orders into one and end up paying $15 then you’re out of touch and that’s all we need to know. Fees are also different for sale price vs shipping. Or at least they used to be.
@ I think charging $15 for shipping and selling $20 card for $5 is a bit*h move. I got caught like that a few times eBay told me seller posted shipping price and I’m obligated to pay since I agreed to pay for it. I also feel buyers should be responsible for using common sense also. I see a $20 card and seller has buy it now for $5 buyer should ask ourselves what’s the catch and look closer at description and listing. Lot of sellers are not shady but they don’t combine shipping for multiple reason. Had one eBay seller have cards in multiple states because he listing for friends and family. I sell a lot lower end cards eBay standard envelope don’t know if y’all have in Australia the service. Throw cards in white envelope ship for under $1 catch is max you can put is $20 in an envelope and have free insurance as a seller. So many times people message you can put my 5 cards in one envelope and refund my difference they don’t care there a $20 max for seller pertection. They want to save $4 lol. I always refund extra postage like I tell people when they message questioning why I sent them a partial refund is because excess shipping paid and I’m not in the business to make money on shipping. Honestly it feels like when buyers and sellers use comps to negotiate prices but the same buyer what claims the real high last sale is a outlier or a unpaid auction but when they trying to sell you cards they claim same thing for really low last sales lol seller do that crap also. I look last 5 sales take away highest and lowest and do average I fair for consistent purposes. Long and short buyer beware common sense. You looking to buy a new car dealer says they can get you into a 50k car for $400 a month with zero down payment. Most would sign their life away for that deal with out reading that it’s a 20 year loan and you spending 96k or better after 2 years you get a balloon payment due. Fine print is key. AS*hole sellers are wrong so are foolish buyers who feel they getting to good of a deal and they won over on the seller.
@@DarthkeldeanI am all for sellers shipping individually if that’s their policy and they’ve got a reason. Like I said in the video, when shipping internationally that’s what I do as it covers the extra insurance cost. What we are talking about here is sellers charging 5x more for something and then only doing it once. If you want to charge me 5 separate shipping amounts, you better be shipping my order as 5 separate shipments
@ I got what you were and are saying but that is a loop hole eBay needs to fix to protect seller and buyers. What sellers can do is instead of buying cards individually then complaining is put all the cards you want in your cart see if discounted shipping is offered in the total of not before completing the purchase message seller asking about it. eBay is truly the only one who can fix this mess. If someone combines open purchase to ship as one eBay should automatically refund the difference. Buyer don’t have to ask and seller has no choice but to if they want combined invoice. Simple as that.... End Of Discussion.................................
PS: I did not ask Dan to do this video, I didn't even know about it until he released it........ Facts
@@Darthkeldeanare you guy from this video? Your example is stupid and if you are using restorant as example then it would be like waiter asking you for tip for every plate or glass he served to you. To combine shipping is reasonble and logicly expected to be done
@@Darthkeldean just sounds like shitty americans

They usually either don't respond to your combined shipping request or say they don't know how to combine shipping here in the US.
lol good point
This is a simple fix: do free shipping and makeup for the difference in your asking price.
They can. It’s been done for me before. I know sellers have had issue with it though
@ when I tried yesterday I just had an error on my screen “invoices cannot be sent for international orders”
This was US to Australia though. But it’s easy enough to cancel and relist as a lot.
@ yeah some sellers have had to do that for me too.
@@TheGoldenOctagon I know at one point they were talking about it, but as of my last international order I had to get of list of everything they wanted and do that. It doesn't automatically combine and you can't invoice on orders outside the country.
@@YeahIwasder4dat same. But it was better than missing a sale. Hopefully eBay fixes this soon. But still people shouldn’t try to make $ on shipping. That’s a scum bag thing to do.
Flippers don't like this video because they don't give 2 💩 about collectors.
@ I've personally had this happen a few times, as well. There are ways to manipulate the system to make it easier, such as using the cart, but if you are submitting offers it's not as efficient. I don't think it's a greed issue though in the US, it's more about ignorance of the system (casual sellers) or a business decision (Burbank for example).
Looking at the seller's profile, their shipping costs are all over the place, some indicating free, others $5 through to $15. Good to see he got negative feedback.
He’s fixed his listings now apparently which is a good thing. Just a crappy way to sell to your customers
Agree 100%. Several years ago I bought two or three dozen autographs of an NFL player that went off in a game and didn't pay attention to who I was buying from. Turns out, they were all from the same seller and I ended up paying like $100 in shipping. Received a single package with no more than $10 worth of postage.
I would have left negative feedback and contacted Ebay and filed a complaint.
Damn, that sucks. Hope you left feedback
Guy using gold plated stamps to chaege $15 a card! Combing shipping always has led to more sales for me. I'm here to move stuff I'm listing, I may lose $4 or $5 on a total sale, but guess what? Those people usually come back again and buy more stuff!
Haha exactly
I don’t sell a whole lot on eBay anymore but I always just charge people the actual amount it costs to ship. It’s just the appropriate and honestly easiest way to do it.
If you try to pull the no combined shipping scam in the US you won’t be around long.
I have my shipping set to 5.55 usps, and if the same buyer buys multiple, i give a discount.
Multiply that by a couple hundred listings and now I'm getting multiple annoying messages all day. It's eBay, I'm not there to cater to every little thing someone wants. I really don't care how it makes them feel. I feel the same way about that as I do telemarketers.
I give refunds if buyers buy more than one item and pay the double shipping. I wish there was a way you can advertise that you do combined shipping on the you know somewhere in your eBay store or your bio or something.
I always combine shipping. It’s hard to sell cards and not because I don’t use eBay’s shipping labels but then again I don’t sell really cheap cards but I sell cards you know anywhere from six to $12 you know but shipping is $4.50 I mean it actually cost about $5.50 to ship one card and, you know that’s good up till like five and top loaders
I have seen a large dip in views on my channel as well.
just confirms again all these blow ins that came in the area of cardboard world during you could sell cockroach shit it ruins the ones that have been their before it became popular also if this moron seller trying to off set prices you get taxed for the whole trans postage included.
That is a bs thing to do omg I couldn’t imagine doing that to someone
A ebay seller named sportscard investor (ironic right) does the same thing all the time just a psa
🤣
Are we 100% sure that eBay Standard International shipping program allows combined shipments? I don’t know eBay’s process to receive and ship a package to a non US location.
just to confirm, the buyer (myself) and the seller are both in Australia.
In this case both were in Australia but to answer your question, yes, they have the option to combine internationally even if using ebay program
Thank you!!!
I put $5 flat rate shipping on all the cards I sell. When they buy more than one card, I keep it at $5. People have bought more than once from my small Ebay channel
That's too much for a single card or even 10 though.
Not where I live. Just to ship a bubble envelope with the slowest shipping through USPS, it costs about $4.50 on average. Ebay actually wants me to charge more when it calculates it itself. I just set the rate to $5 even
@@enragedfurbie128 Then how are people selling $1-$2 cards with 60 cents shipping or sometimes free. If that were true nobody would ever buy cards worth less than a couple bucks.
I sell on ebay. How do you combine postage if people buy multiple items? I've never had to do it, but people sometimes ask.
There's usually an option to send an invoice where you can apply discounts and shipping costs. I don't believe you can do it on mobile however
Yeah you can’t do it from the app which is annoying
@@videogames9829 Google it, cause I can't remember but invoice is one way and the other is to turn on setting to automatically combine shipping when buyers pay through the cart.
I think would definitely find a better place to purchase from. I use app that is actual LCSs around the country and they are very fair cause in the end they are making lots of money. That seller/breaker was being really greedy, not trust worthy.
Good Afternoon,
I am probably going to say something that may has already been said, or will be said later.
@@DanTheCardMan2 The $75 total shipping is indeed unfortunate,... but that seller now has to give me "five" packages.
@@gregggyfagree
Ive had buyers buy 2 items and pay for both shipping. I reach out and ask if they'd like refunded 1 shipping and I'll mail together. If they don't respond I just ship them separately using the money they paid for postage.
You are wrong in one aspect seller fees are 3% but eBay dings you 10% on shipping and handling at least in the US
I currently have 7 different cards that the seller already combined and 4 more I'm waiting on to end.
How do you send a video to eBay?
They provide ways to do that once you’ve communicated with them
As a new Collector this is a great Video Dan you see some really strange stuff on Ebay and Gum Tree even outside the card collecting hobby so much so now I stopped using these platforms as from a sellers point Ebay always looks to be on the side of the buyer and in my experience they where the ones in the wrong.
You can do that and it rips people off
I just made a video about this very subject, the flip side is that customers demands can be unrealistic.
It has all become a "Sportscard Ponzi Scheme."
Phahaque these boxes and cards.
$15 aud. The cheapest option for prepack satchels with tracking g is around $13 these days
You may not like it and think it’s shitty, but it’s definitely not shady, and you’re in no position to tell people to do this or not.
That said, I do always combine fwiw
It’s against eBay policy to put card value in your shipping price… it’s also against AU policy to charge someone $75 across 5 sales, ship as one and then pocket the difference.
@ I’m talking about strictly not combining shipping. What’s AU policy?
gj dan !! keep up the good work. As snow getting ready to fall enjoy the summer !!
Thanks! Will do!
Not exactly fair dinkum are they.
If they ship in the same package complain
My point exactly
When combing you have options to upgrade shipping.
I’m with the seller on this one. I’ve shipped multiple and have had people want to return one etc unless you list it as combined shipping nothing wrong here
All five listings ended within the hour.... so your fine with someone charging you $75 postage when it will cost him $11 to send?
