Can you do the NC500 with a toddler?

  • One of the most common questions we got when we told people we were going to do the North Coast 500 route in Scotland was "with a toddler, in a campervan? Really?". But we did it, and we loved it, and I wanted to share a few of the tips we gathered from spending 2 weeks in a VW transporter conversion campervan with a two year old on the NC500 route around the coast of Scotland.

    It will serve her well to be a creative thinker.🙂❤️ Not thinking in boxes and colour inside the line is needed in every aspect of life.

    Like another commenteer here, I spotted you on the interweb through a Tamron lens review (70-200 2.8 I recently bough) and got carried away by couriosity about other relatable dad's life's. I do ride bikes. Used to own a van. Have a 3 y/o girl and a 1 y/o boy. Take photographs casually for now almost 20 years. Found recently interest in drones through a mini 3 and Avata and... Enjoyed watching your experiences you shared. Except for the thing, that our daughter is not that calm. She has a pretty strong mind and is emotional as emotional can. We had quite a hard time leading her through her own distractions and helping her to get a rest from her self by sticking to routines. Hehe... One thing I can't relate to is your protein drink obsession thing. Havent even watched or looked at a single flick of those topics. Anyways: Just in case you haven't come across the "shotgun" seat that mounts nicely between your seat post and your fork shaft. This thing might be of interest for you and your daughter. I have had such nice rides together with my daughter and she really enjoyed these adventures since she is 2. It is also a fun way to gift your wife some time on her own. With that said. Cheers from Wegberg Germany. Thank you for your videos.

    Great video. Just stumbled on your channel looking for Wahoo Kicker core, and got sent to this one afterward your normal person review. Weird question: do you have or plan to do any "how to" videos about relationships or having kids later in career? I'm a guy in my early 40s, held off on relationships for a while due to work and caring for sick parent, and I'm now out of shape and not in the dating game at all. Fearful that the window to have children is closing fast. When I see you with your daughter, I see absolute joy. Hope this question is not too weird or out of left field. Thanks for the video and in advance for your consideration.

      Sorry for taking so long to get back to you - that’s a really interesting idea for a video, and not out of left field at all! I’m a couple of years younger than you (not a lot, mind) but my brothers both had their kids in their 50’s, and didn’t meet their partners until late 40’s - I think to be honest, other than listing all the mistakes I made earlier in life, my advice would be that when the right person arrives, you just know. It’s cheesy as anything, but that’s what happened with me!

    Thank you for the video! Can I ask a couple more questions?
    What did you do at night after she'd gone to sleep? If you were inside the camper did you not wake her?
    Was there enough room to sleep?
    What is the car seat you're using?
    What make is the van with the 3 seats at the front?
    Can you tell we've got this trip coming up this year haha

      Of course you can ask! that's what I'm here for! So, once she'd gone to sleep, we'd either sit outside the van if it was a nice evening, or inside if it wasn't - thankfully, she's a really sound sleeper, so she never really woke up to any noises - i suspect we're quite lucky with that. There was plenty of room to sleep - essentially the changes to the van for her (i.e, sleeping in the front cab) don't affect our sleeping area much at all - the only slight difference is that we can't use the front seats for storage in the way we normally would. The car seat is a cybex Pallas S-fix (not 100% sure about the s-fix bit, but its definitely a cybex pallas) - we've found all the cybex stuff pretty good! and the van is a VW transporter T5 - as standard, the normal "van" model always had 3 seats, but often when they're converted, they change it to 2 captains chairs. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with! When're you doing the trip?

      @@LittleTipple thank you so much! That’s handy to know and going to look into the car seat. We have a cybex but it’s isofix so need to find one that’s just seatbelt for the trip. She sleeps pretty well with background noise so hoping we can do the same it just doesn’t look like there’s much room if she’s down in the bed at the back and I can’t see us getting her down in the hammock type thing you’ve got either lol

    • @LittleTipple
      @LittleTipple  Рік тому

      SO the car seat we have has Isofix points, but you don't need to use them, if you see what i mean - the seat belt is enough, but the isofix is there as a backup, so we can transfer it between cars easier. I have to say, she wasn't as easy to settle on this trip as she is normally, so we often ended up letting her fall asleep in the back with us (one, either or both) after story time, then transferring her into the hammock... I definitely didn't ever fall asleep in the warm dark bed after story time.. lol. we also had a white noise machine type thing that we put in the cabin, just to help with any extra noise coverage.
