- Today we shall play a Doom WAD that's a spoof of the trolley problem thought experiment. It's another Doom WAD from Revenant100 of Doomworld, or MarphitimusBlackimus of UA-cam (the creator of those two crazy revenant WADs), and it's a nice take on the experiment.

@Blade1067: Haha, maybe a -1 Revenant wad then. A normal living non-demon man who is plagued by rockets being fired at him.
Then those "Bony skeletons" won't be in the map, it will be the same old, but weak and colored negatively.
@Blade1067: How about we keep the zero Revenant idea and throughout the wad you see no skeletons with their skelerockets. It's a large wad until the final room containing only a mirror. As you get closer you realize you are the Revenant but through the trauma of the wad begin to doubt that you and your world is real. Then 'Komm Susser Todd' plays.
The Dopefish burping before like 55 explosions and an Icon death killed me
on nightmare (the highest difficulty) monsters respawn after you kill them. that's why it's not compatible

The beauty of this specific brand of the trolley problem is that you can interpret it as an abstraction of humanity or take it at face value.
We don't know if these demons have greater moral complexity themselves. They may just be evil or they may be innocent since you don't SEE them doing anything.
So the question is not just "Is it right to let A die to save B, or should B be sacrificed to save A"
It can also be "Is it right to let threat A go unchecked compared to threat B, and vice versa", a question which essentially turns the whole system on its head in a way that doesn't actually disrupt it.
I also love the increasing variables being introduced without dialogue, like "The arachnotron and the mancubus have relatives that notice your decision and confront you about it."
The lost soul versus the pain elemental felt like "should you let a mother or her son die? I let the mother live. She can birth more children"

You were so busy deciding where you would divert the trolley you never thought about stopping the trolley itself.

This WAD got promoted in the Steam News for DOOM...
The spider mastermind can't die by barrel explosions, because it's immune to area damage like the cyberdemon.
I really expected that all the monsters you saved would show up in Map 30 and you would have to fight them.

that probably just wouldn't be possible, as the scripting in doom... let's just say it isn't good for "remembering" things.

Hexen remembers which switch was pulled in one world to open up a door in another. I've seen Doom Wads that do similar scripting as well. So it could be a matter of having another switch in each level that opens up a door or teleporter or whatever is needed to be done in summoning monsters for Map 30.

@@charbomber110 | It Only Gets Worse actually comes to mind as a sort of rebuttal to what you said. To get to the true ending, you have to flip a hidden switch in one of the levels, and when you get to the bonus map select at the end, if you flipped that switch, the ending is available. The variable used to track that across maps could probably be used as a base and turned up to 12, with one variabe being set for each map; a 1 for Left, and a 2 _(At least, I_ think _this could be more than just binary...)_ for Right. _(A 0 would indicate that you skipped the level out-right, and could fire off a No Fair Cheating measure.)_
I love that it uses Gman’s “it’s time to choose” line. It’s too perfect.

What would have been funny is if at the end, the game placed you inside the test chamber, where you're alone on your side, and there are five monsters on the other, and you're at the mercy of some random NPC, that (like most) will likely choose to kill as few people as possible.
Did you know that when a Cybertrolley fires rocketrolleys at you, instead of standing still and allowing them to hit you, it's actually possible to move to either side and they will pass by without causing you any damage? They will however still explode when they hit the wall behind you, which would cause damage if you were standing close to it. It may in fact also be possible to move forward, away from the wall, to prevent this.
I think you made the right choices. Kill as absolute few as possible. :3
I just realized this is the *opposite* of Doom! You have no guns and nowhere to run, and you're having to save the monsters.

Well, I'd say it is morally better to end the Imp's misery, as well as the Marine.
Both are presumably struggle snuggling until the end of time, its not their choice, and you can't quite tell how they feel about it either, but I imagine after a while its not a pleasant experience.
So, end the suffering of two, because attempting to kill the other just makes them fall over.
Chances are, if you got to this video, you're knee deep in gaming and recognized G-man instantly :D

He also says "time to choose" a couple of times in that ending if you stand around pondering.

I've been subscribed to you for at least a couple of years, maybe longer, and I love watching these DOOM videos of yours! DOOM/DOOM 2 is easily my favorite first person shooter game of all time, and probably in my top 10 games of all time tbh. (counting DOOM and DOOM 2 as one game just because they're pretty much the same other than added enemies and the super shotgun in DOOM 2)

The funniest thing is that no matter what you choose, you'll always get 100% ethically challenged :D
But yeah, those unexpected twists really test your utilitarianism quite well.
It's because those are just counts for "secrets", which the WAD didn't had in the maps. There are no secrets, so it equals 100℅ secrets since there are no secrets to be found (excluding the 6 key door thing, if it is ever a secret area).

You know watching this, it occurs to me that nearly all of these choices are meaningless, as they could be practically circumvented by "Get an Arch-Vile".
Only those which involve things an Arch-Vile could not resurrect could be considered to have any weight.

What a WEIRD thing to make into a doom level. Especially since one of the goals IS to kill as MANY monsters as you can. Those ethics thought experiments are USUALLY built upon the opposite assumption. I liked the menu choices..... I'm too moral to die....

Have you checked out Cyberdreams? It's an interesting puzzle WAD where you have to kill, telefrag, or use the Cyberdemon in unique and clever ways.

I even checked out midi versions on youtube and they don't even cloely resemble each other with the song playing at Icon of Sin map. Everytime we Touch plays on monster slideshow screen, but I meant the song which plays on the level itself.
