- This beautiful Indian Block Printed fabric was an impulse buy and I think it will make the perfect summer dressing gown. In this video I take a look through all the lovely fabrics and start thinking about the design and the layout!
The Etsy site where I bought the fabrics is called Colours of Spirit.
This is where I got the pattern mellysews.com/sew-robe-easy-t...

I turned on your video today to listen to while quilting. My 9 year-old daughter was playing legos in the same room. She spoke up and said, “Oh, I love her! She is so good at sewing.” Thank you for opening your sewing room up to us. I love that my daughter is learning from you too and that we can watch your videos together. Love from North Carolina, USA.
I feel a whole bunch of us are going to be chopping, sewing etc etc and new dressing gowns all around come autumn 😂..brilliant.
It's going to be extra beautiful!
For sure 😁
😂
Absolutely beautiful. I need a dressing gown as well. What a great idea 😊
Yes me too. How cosy!
I'm not sure how I found your Home channel, might have been through your gardening channel. Whatever way it was, I am glad I found your home channel too as I love sitting and listening to you chat about your quilting projects. It feels like a conversation with a good friend, and at my age and stage of life, a good friend is a treasure. So thank you very much! I don't quilt much these days as I haven't found the work around for my back aching as I sew, but you've inspired me to keep trying to figure that out because the creativity that sewing invokes in me is really a balm. Who knows, maybe some day we will have a two way chat! Love and light to you, Kate.
I literally burst out laughing with your description of measuring yourself. My sentiments exactly. I am a Brit who lives in frigid cold Minnesota. Love the idea of a quilted robe or dressing gown as we used to call them. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So glad to see you! .....husband been in hospital for 21 days...now home & getting back to my normalcy. Love this new idea.
Thank you for posting more regular videos. We love to see you and see what you are up to. I find it interesting how we feel that you are like family and miss when you are gone to long.
Thanks for sharing the fabric address. Beautiful, beautiful colors. Your dressing gown will be a joy.
The oppressive heat here has given me a great case of Finish-itis while I stay inside .
Poor Kate, you then have to decide every morning which side to wear. Both are so beautiful. I would be in a big conflict every time. 😂
I think this is going to be lovely and nice and warm for you.
Now I need a new dressing gown. I have a flannel gown I love, but my kitties think it's a napping spot and always want to sleep on it. I need to get my own. Thank you for sharing your world. Just love it!!
Diamond gussets under the arm( could be made without wadding) would be charmingly old fashioned and greatly increase your range of movement.
So much inspiration from your videos, Kate, Thanks.
Kate, you look so well. The new format is obviously suiting you. I still get a rush of excitement when a red notification comes up. Love the fabrics & your ideas. Hello to everyone else on the lime green sofa. Can't wait to see the finished housecoat. Best wishes, Ellie. Formally Seneca's groupie.
👌
I just love how your concepts come together the fabric blocks are beautiful & I am excited to see how it all develops into your quilted kaftan cosy colourful & gorgeous 🥰
Wonderful fabric designs, and pattern. Melly Sews is a great help to us sewers. Can hardly wait to see your dressing gown come to life.
Patch pockets on the slant would be my vote. That pink stripe with the tigers... perfect!
Kate, you are a marvel!! Many of your videos get me started on a new "Kate" project! So I have many, many WIPs!
My ultimate project plan is to make yardage by piecing and quilting to re-upholster a chair I have. I have seen chairs in shops and advertisements covered in quilts and I think they are quite pretty.
I CANT WAIT FOR THE FINISH 👏👏👏👏👏❤️. ITS GOING TO BE AWESOME 😎
I just found your channel. I’m watching from Lebanon Tennessee in the US. We are about 25 miles from Nashville Tn. I love this idea! I have so much fabric that I have collected through the years, this would be a great way to use some of it. Since I’ve become a widow, stitching and crafting have been therapy for me. Thank you for sharing your talent. May GOD richly Bless you. I will now be following you. 😊
Thank you Kate. One of the nicest pages I've found in ages.
Double layers seem hot in July but, by the time this project is complete there will be an autumn chill in the air!
I get so inspired by your videos. I've missed many months of your videos because I quit my job got an online job and moved to Europe so I've been busy! 😊 so it's so nice to be settled and to be able return to your comforting voice, your wonderfyl home and projects. I have missed you. Hello everyone! 😊
First i wish to tell you i am so glad i found your show.
You amaze me with your projects. Love them. Never stop, please. Barb may
Oh my!!! How clever you are. I can hardly wait to see the final product.... it will be beautiful.
This rather reminds me of Bilbo's dressing gown in the Hobbit . If i could get my mitts on some fabric that looked like that , I'd get nothing done ! So very visually pleasing 🥰
I love quilted clothing. It’s just the only one in the world like it, and every one is a piece of art. So enjoyable. Thank you.
Would it not be easier to hand quilt your piece of material you have made from the big squares, before you make it into a garment? I love all the patterns on the lovely material, just beautiful. As you said yourself Kate, this pattern reminds me of the wonderful kaftans we made back in the 60s/70s! I so loved my Kaftan I put together back then - the good old days! xxx
Oh my gosh…I enjoy your videos so much. Your voice is soothing and you get to the point! Thanks for creating these lovely videos!
Congratulations on the new grandson!
I think it is going to be very beautiful . Can't wait to see it.😊
Oh thank you so much for the video. I do so enjoy them.
Thanks Kathe. Have a nice week. Your jacket is wonderful. I bought the same book. You have a lot of ideas to sew new items. See you next time. Greeting from Germany. ❤👋🐞
So next an indian-Hantan-Jacket/gown....well,well. Your free spirit and endless ideas are amazing .Don't stress yourself. Stay healthy is most important....
Too funny! As I was listening to the first part, I was thinking why don’t you make it reversible… and you did 😂
What beautiful cloth you've chosen! I love how you have laid them out together
Love flosstube. Beautiful. 🐈⬛🐈⬛⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoy watching you. You are great sewer.
It's a beautiful idea, and will be lovely when finished
Kate! So nice to see you and it is going to be beautiful 😍. Muahhhh and smooch smooch ❤
I am a huge fan of dressing gowns/ house coats! If I'm at home I'm almost always in one. Winter over my clothes and in summer mostly naked underneath. If anyone comes calling I am presentable and I'm not wearing out my clothes or being a walking magnet for my dogs shedding hair.
Anyway, DO NOT SKIP ON THE POCKETS! You will regret it. I make my house coats/gowns with beautiful colorful fabrics with big roomy pockets. In the summer when it's hot if it wasn't for the pockets I'd just walk around naked... 😅 Can't wait to see your finished project!
What jumped out to me IMMEDIATELY would be brightly coloured flowers and birds pieces together for the outside.
Beautiful Kate and just in time for season change🎉🎉🎉🎉
Joseph and his .. Coat of many colours , Love it ❤
My squares have arrived can’t wait for the next episode 🎉
I just love everything you do Kate, you lift my day! I loved your patch reversable jacket, I think it is like the coat of many colours. You are so gifted, and lovely, and I wish there were more Kates in this world of ours! xxx
Thank you so much for this lovely glimpse into your creativity. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I would want pockets on both sides along with a sash. My mom made one like this when I was a teen. It was very nice.
A banyan! A goal of mine! But now I know how I want to do it! You are such an inspiration.
All the ideas I had as you went along, you implemented. What a wonderful project!
Love your channel Kate. It takes me back home.
Such lovely fabrics! I would put squares of the same colour together and make your gown reversible.
It will be lovely. I predict you will always wear the pink side out, don't kid yourself!
So pretty Kate!!! Love it
Love to see your project...Love to hear you talk. So calming.
And I laughed out loud when you talked about measuring yourself...hahaha..I know what you mean.
Wow I love that quilt behind you. ❤
Those fabrics are DELICIOUS! Reminds me of Kaffe Faucet.
Loving the reversible idea, MUST have pockets! And all the cut off pieces you can use to make little Agnes a dressing gown like Grandma's, maybe for Christmas? Maybe cut the "other" side a bit larger so you can make felled seams after it is quilted? Love it!
👌
I’m not a garment maker so when I saw the title of the video my heart sank a bit. How wrong could I be!! This is exactly what I’ve been looking to buy but how much more fun to make it from 10 inch squares. Thankyou Kate, as always, for a lovely video and an even better idea! ❤
Such a fun adventure! Enjoy!
Earlier this week I received my Aurifil Thread Box and Quilt Planning Notebook. I love it, so now I'm stitching with my beautiful new threads while watching the new video. Thank you so much Kate and Anna
I can’t wait to see your dressing gown. 😊
beautiful fabric....pinks for the win!!
Thank you so much Kate! This project is a real ‘feast for the eye’, and I’m sure will provide you with lots of joy while you’re working on it! It certainly makes my dressing gown appear very ‘tame’ in comparison! It’s one redeeming feature is that it is pink!
Fantasic designs and colours the dressing gown be fab.
Brings back memories! My mother made my grandmothers patchwork bathrobes one Christmas when I was young . She worked so hard on them. I thought at the time how wonderful they were, maybe that's why I grew up to be a quilter. I do need a robe.......I know yours will be colorful and wonderful. Good Luck Kate
Kate there is only one thing to say.... This is so exciting! I think we are as excited as you are to see this come to fruition.
Exciting project, I shall watch w8th a lot of interest!
Pockets YES definitely!
I love the fabric and I’m sure it will be beautiful. Also, I love all your videos. Take care Kate
A very adventurous project! Pockets are required for girls and women!
I was wondering if i could piece together fabric for a dressing gown…and this video pops in! Perfect
I made a dressing gown out of a woven yardage done in the Japanese Saori style. I use some of my tablet weaving belt yardage for a tie. I just cut it in two lengths and sewed up the back, reinforcing where I stopped at the back of my neck. Left the fringe. So one side has fringe at the back and one at the front. Very simple and very cozy. I used the lightweight Mandala yarn as warp and weft and lots of add ins and different techniques, so it's a sort of sampler. I sewed up the sides leaving ample room at the arm holes. The fabric drapes down my arms to 4 inches past my elbow crease. I was going to add sleeves, but never bothered. It's lovely. Just two strips of yardage sewed up just shy of halfway folded and sides sewed to just below my arms a good bit. I changed my profile picture so you can see it on me. My favorite. Have two others that rarely get worn. Since it's Saori style weaving, cat claw snags disappear into it and become a part of it. You have inspired me to make a second one of quilt blocks. In winter sometimes I just nap in it and use it as a blanket. It needed pockets so a small pin loom was used and I made 4 squares sewn together for each pocket. Out of the same yarn. I don't have an actual Saori loom yet, so I used a Ridgid heddle one. About finished with more yardage of the same type and yarn. Made a nice drapey fabric.
Sounds brilliant! Thank you for the photo. 👍
Lovely!
Wow! That’s absolutely beautiful! What a wonderfully creative project, and so much love in it! Thank you so much for sharing your technique and finished garment with us!
This is a very exciting project. Can’t Waite to see more
Just an idea or advice (as you want) for your pockets. Your challenge, cause you're gonna work with patchwork tissu to make your clothe, your challenge will be to match the pockets with one of the squares on the front of the clothe. Otherwise the pockets risk being shifted. I think that inside reversed pockets will be the best option. Think about it.
So very inspirering. Thanks Kate. Gives me ideas.
This is so inspiring. That pink side. I love it!
Can't wait to see your dressing gown.❤
Love the fabric and I am looking forward to seeing your new dressing gown
This will work well, i have done a similar but short garment many years ago. The trick is to not quilt up to the edge. You then sew the outside fabric seam, trim the batting, and fold the inside fabric inwards and sew the edges by hand with an invisible stitch. When done quilt across the seams in a few places.
I love love those fabrics.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'm excited to see the finished dressing gown.
Kate ,lovely as always ❤
Hi Kate! Thank you for sharing this project with us. I am also in need of a new dressing gown, and maybe a housecoat too. Hmmm.....
I can't wait to see the gown!
This IS exciting, I’m so happy for your joy!!! I get like that when I’m working on a new crochet project, can’t wait to wake up in the morning and get back to it! I’m so looking forward to seeing what blossoms from your ideas, thank you for sharing, and God bless 💕😊
Kate you look amazing and I love your top ❤❤ Sue x
I love watching your videos. You are such a lovely person. ❤
Wonderful fabrics can’t wait to see the end result 👏🌸
It's going to be so cozy and lovely this winter!! Love it!!😊 after this videp it showed a bit of a star quilt you are making grandson. Then, it said private. Didnt know you had a grandson!! How exciting!! I got my package I ordered from you this week and am delighted with my "Kate treasures"!!!😊
Love the dressing gown, I think I will make one for my self . ❤
Put pockets on it, for sure. You’ll miss them if you don’t.
Love your creative thinking. Thinking it through this way and that. Coming up with a game plan. It will be very cozy and bright. ❤
What a great idea! I need a new dressing gown and I have the fabric. Now to get busy! Thank you Kate! ❤
Hi, Kate, It occurred to me that you might consider using a Sashiko Needle for Hand Quilting. They are longer and have somewhat a larger for heavier thread. It would cut the time down and be so much easier on your hands. Keep up your delightful You Tube connection with we, people, who have gotten to think of you as our FRIEND.
definitely pockets. Definitely.
Kate that’s a lovely idea you are so clever you could make Agnes one as well x
You've inspired me, and solved a problem. I have two thin cotton kimono dressing-gowns that belonged to my mother that I 've been keeping because I can't think what to do with them. I can patchwork them together and make one quilted dressing gown! They are both lovely fabric, and I have other block prints that would make sure there's enough for lining and binding (because while I was watching you and I thought, I would edge that just like the boro jacket), and, of course, for pockets, because every garment should have pockets.
Oh Kate! You brilliant enabler, you! 😍 This is such a wonderful idea. Of course, I’m going to sew a dressing gown of my own and I am excited to see more of them popping up on Instagram, as I’m sure there certainly will be! 💖 What a wonderful bit of inspiration from Pink HQ! Thank you!
Love your videos you teach us so many things please know how much you mean to us I love seeing all your family on your videos does Martha have two children now I like being on the little green couch my children thinks its funny when I tell them I am on the green couch eating treats and drinking tea and talking and having fun with the other people lol 80 year old woman from Texas USA
In just a few short months, that warm housecoat will be much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing it finished. I appreciate you sharing your thought process in making decisions. Very helpful!!
What a great idea! Definitely with pockets! Can’t wait to see the finished dressing gown, Kate!
