Please leave a comment if you agree or disagree to my thoughts as well as tools you recommend! so it will help people new to woodworking including me. I want to learn from you, too:) Thank you!
Thank you for the comment! The first video is where and when I started woodworking so hopefully you can enjoy watching other videos and see how I make progress by messing around with wood, haha.
I saw this video months ago, and it did really help push me to get my first few tools but then the algorithm never brough me back to this channel. Now that I'm looking to up my skills a little, I'm looking stuff up on the old youtube university and refound your tutorials, great stuff man! You have such a fun personality, you can tell that when you make videos that you're just happy we're here and enjoying the content.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you found my channel again. You can tell I'm enjoying UA-cam things because I'm still here and uploading my videos. It's all good:)
I totally agree. I didn't want to invest a lot of money in tools, just in case I couldn't do it, so I bought inexpensive ones. I am now expanding to better quality, not expensive, to improve my project outcome. Thanks for sharing your findings, it's important for beginners to know these things. There is so much at the hardware store it's overwhelming. :))
Thank you for coming back! I actually learned it from golf that I've never even played, haha. I bought pretty good club sets for me and my wife. Now they just kill a space but I can't even throw them away in case we may want to play it one day...
A true complete minimalist list. Maybe add a few clamps to hold your work. For the saw, why not a Ryouba with both rip & crosscut? I hardly use my dozuki, I use the ryouba all the time.
Thank you for the comment! My first saw after started woodworking was a cheap ryoba! but I damaged a cross cut side of it and ended up buying a cross cut saw. If I have a skill to sharpen it correctly, ryoba is a great choice but I realized at my sharpening skill level, to have two kataba's is more economical option so I can interchange the blade I need only (I may mess the same cross cut side twice in a row so). I only use a dozuki for cutting a tenon but that dozuki cuts things soo well!
I really like the minimalist approach you take. Might you show us your shooting board for Japanese planes? I've seen plenty for western style planes, but not for Japanese.
Thank you for the comment! It's actually the same as the western shooting board and I'm just using the Japanese plane with it. Well, as far as I researched, there are edge/end grain shooting boards called Suri-dai/Kezuri-dai and it seems like they even have a special hand plan for it. I was just about to upgrade my shooting board so I'll make a video out of it soon:)
Thank you my friend ! yeah, clamps are always convenient:) and now me after 3years, I have too many tools so I can’t pretend like a minimalist any more, haha!
I read your description and was wondering what your very first woodworking project was. You said you just started woodworking in 2021? But you have created some intricate-looking items from what I can tell. So I was wondering how the first project turned out to compare to more recent items.
Thank you for your comment! The first project was the PC case and I was actually planning to start a DIY gadget channel, haha. I’ve done a couple of construction lumber DIY prior to this channel but that’s pretty much it. I really appreciate people’s comments that led me to woodworking!
