For those who's having a problem with this tutorial: She's doing a great job, she's in frame, good lighting and she's zoomed in. DEVICES COME WITH A PAUSE BUTTON!!?!?!
I'm just watching this to decide if I want to start this project or not...and I have to say that I wish all crochet tutorials were like yours...they are perfect! I love how you have the written pattern up on the left so that I can watch you make each row, then pause the video but still have the instructions there in case I forget what I'm doing lol! It's great to have the stitch count after each row also. The music is nice, and it's great that it fades out so I can hear everything your saying once you start talking. Your camera is zoomed in perfectly, your working on a nice neutral background so it's easy to see what you're doing, and your not wearing some distracting nail polish lol! I'm so impressed with your videos....please continue to make more!! :)

hi! i'm such a big fan. i've made a lot of your patterns. i find them really, really nice & pretty & so relaxing. when i'm stressed at work, i just watch your videos and i always feel relaxed and calm afterwards. i don't know why but hearing you soothing voice just makes my whole body relax. thank you for all your uploads & all your nice projects. God bless you & your whole family.
Rebecca... This series of videos are GREAT! I've only been crocheting a few months and happened on this project while looking for something I would like to attempt. I completed it in three days!!! You explained everything you did, showed everything in great detail. I'm absolutely thrilled with my bag. I am in awe that I made something that looks store bought and high-end as well! I'm loving crochet more and more with each project I tackle, thank you for helping a novice know exactly what's going on. I'm blown away!
I love it! Very professional looking bag. Thank you so much for explaining the beginning and end of each round. That has always confused me in the past.
I finished my version about one week ago, I used the same yarn, got the same little tags, got very similar if not the same handles and a nickel grommet kit, I am from the UK and some of the items were shipped from the USA, I tried in my home town but could not get nickel grommets anywhere, but have to say it was worth the effort. The bag turned out amazing, the tutorial was very easy to follow (I am a relative beginner to crocheting) so used the pause button a lot, but everything was so easy to follow. The video was very well make and the instructions were excellent. Thank you for sharing this.
GM Sonia..; you have my name, born and raised in North London (Tottenham, Wood Green, Hornsey and Finsbury Park), but now living in the Bronx, NY. Wanted to say "hi" to a fellow Brit.
Thank you so much! One of the best tutorials I've seen. I love how you zoomed in so we could see the actual stitches. I'm basically a beginner, and still learning. So thanks again.
Thank you for this beautiful tutorial! It's my 1st time in trying to make something like this, and I love the yarn. Can't wait to see this project done, and start to show it off.
I'm so excited to see a new video from you. I love the way you style your channel with the written pattern on the screen. I learned to read patterns by following your channel. Thank you for another great video!
finally got my order in the mail, could not find silver in the 24/7. I ordered I love this cotton in pewter and one in white and just got it! (Of course now joann has the silver back in stock online now, lol) I've never made anything but blankets. I'm so excited, I've never done a crochet along! Here we go!!
Thanks SO much for the easy to follow tutorial - I will DEFINITELY be making my first ever bag using your tutorial. Simple to follow . . . . so grateful you took the time to create this 3 part series.
I'm new to your channel because of this bag. Thank you so much. Its a BEAUTIFUL BAG . THIS IS GOING TO BE MY NEXT PROJECT SO I CAN TAKE MY PROJECTS ON THE GO WITH ME. Thank you for taking the time to do this for your followers. Will be following. Thanks again. I'm from New Jersey. ( Donna Weiss) 😊❤
George Weiss...Same here for me! This bag definitely caught my eye. It’s very elegant and feminine. I’m ordering supplies online today before my coupons expire😂
Thank you! These tutorials just became life... lol, our family keeps running out of market/grocery bags. Plus, there are only so many crochet hats I can make! Needed something challenging and this is great. I appreciate your work and sharing. (New subscriber)
I'm happy to be the 1000'th like on this video 😁 and very excited to try making this bag even though I haven't crocheted in years! Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial and project!! 🙏🏼💕
I absolutely love this pattern! I need some help tho... when I add a new skein, how do you recommend the most effective way of joining the yarn without it falling apart?
Love your pattern and videos - thank you for sharing and answering quesitons. I'm trying to match gauge to make my bag 15 1/2" wide as yours. My question is when I am crocheting Part 1 the first 24 rows to make the bottom of the bag, should that piece measure 15 1/2" wide when flattened ? Mine measures about 19". If I cannot get my gauge right, can i reduce the number of initial chains to some smaller odd numbers? Thank you !!
Can you tell us the dimensions of the completed bag? I'm using a different type of yarn. Trying to make this bag with the New Bernat Home Maker Yarn, which is like a t- shirt material. But when I crochet 157 chains it's Too wide for my liking. If you could let me know the dimensions so I can scale mine down accordingly that would be greatly appreciated.
I used a totally different colour and it’s kinda white with a speck of black in it . I couldn’t find the exact yarn u used but it’s gonna be ok I have everything else except the embellishment mine is different in Canada we don’t have hobby lobby or Joanne’s ☹️
Could you please tell me the dimensions of the body of the finished bag? I’m wondering if I could make a smaller version, but I’d need to know the size first. Thank you for sharing this lovely bag. ❤
I had a question about how to make this into a crossbody bag? Would I just make the holes for eyelets somewhere else or is it just plain too hard to change? I also would love to know what stitch this is called please?
oh my gosh !!!! so excited to find this tutorial I'm in love with it... I have to make this... Walmart and other stores including Amazon have inserts for bags so you can have all those pockets for storage .... perfect !!! Thank you for making this... is it possible to add a zipper ??? or would i need to sew a cloth lining into it ??
Hello ! Thank you so much for this tutorial, my bobby pin fell down while I was crocheting so I lost track off where my first stitch was, how can I fix that ?
The bag is very pretty. Will finish my rug and will come back to this tutorial.great tutorial . I have a question when you insert the eyelet doesn’t it mess up the stitches? The eyelet won’t rip the stitches ?Call me dummy for asking such question :-)
Hi! I just found your pattern and am ready to head into it. Quick question. I’m want to make a large beach bag. Got 4 kids so I have to have a large bag. 😊 can I improvise in the length of the chain? Or is there a magic number I should stick to? Is the chain length the width of the bag? Waiting impatiently to hear from you.
The chain length divided in half is the width of the bag. Just stick to an even-numbered stitch count on your rounds. You'll have to improvise the placement of the eyelet holes. :)
I absolutely love the design of this bag! I had been looking for a pattern suitable for a bag to carry to university for ages and this is it, thank you! Reading through the instructions on your website I was wondering: is there a reason why you do not simply crochet a squareish/egg-shaped bottom and decided on sewing the bag together and folding and sewing the edges to make it roomy instead? Is it for reasons of stability? Could you include an addition for such an egg-shaped bottom or tell me how many CH I would need to begin with and for how many rows I would have to do increases in order to have the same roomy effect and to end up with the right number of stitches to start with the actual pattern? Thanks in advance :-)
The boxed style does provide more stability, but really, I just like to try different ways of doing things. :) I will say that after making many styles of bags, this is my preferred method right now.
Hi. I want to order the yarn because I love this bag. I really want to do it. Can you tell me please how many balls of yard you use for this bag. I just want to know how many to order. Thank you very much for all tutorials, you are brilliant.
If you're using the same yarn I did, you'll need 4 skeins of Color A and 1 skein of Color B. If you aren't using the same yarn as me, then you need to compare the needed yardage (665 yards of A and 100 yards of B as mentioned in the video) to the yardage on whatever yarn you are using.
I’m using Bernat homemaker dc yarn. The gauge is 8 stitches per 2 inches. If I use a smaller hook it’s just too tight. How can I adjust the initial chain stitch count to accommodate this gauge? Will it effect the design pattern?
Yes, Bernat Maker Home Dec(#5) is significantly thicker than 24/7 (thin #4). To adjust the pattern you need to make sure you have an even stitch count for the bag, and you'll need to refigure where your grommet holes go.
Yarn and Chai Ahh. Ok. Well that’s simple! I used Inkscape (generic form of Adobe Illustrator) and iMovie. LOL. Pretty much the same! I like that you have the written instructions along the side as you teach. I need to start doing something similar for those hearing impaired. Well, thanks! Have a great day and keep on crocheting👍🏻👍🏻
Hi! How many balls do I need to make this project please? If I take 7 balls in silver et 1 ball in white, is this enough? How many grams each of them? Gorgeous bag, thank you for this video!
Hi! That information is at the beginning of the video or you can view the written pattern at yarnandchai.com/malia-shoulder-bag. The cotton I used has 186 yards in a 100g skein.
I am also curious about making the bag smaller at 156+1 is this divisible by 3, 4 or 6? I was thinking like a messenger bag with 1 shoulder strap... I can figure out the strap holes, but I ❤ this pattern and dont know what the division would be.

I always leave the beginning tail of my work hanging loose for that reason. I prefer to connect the very first row so I have more even rows for the base.
Just one ? I was wondering can you not do a chain of 78 and go around the chain. Then you don't have to see the bottom together later just do the flaps inside.
I love your videos! Although I do have a question. How do you eliminate the bottom gap when you join the rows? Mine looks like one row is lower than the other. TIA!
hola buenas noches un abrazo por tan hermosas creaciones Dios bendiga sus manos gracias por este tutorial lo entiendo y lo pondre en practica pronto es bello
This bag is adorable. I am going to make one for sure. Just curious. Could you use chainless single crochet for this first row? Just curious. It would save some time.

Great tip on making sure your chain and first row are aligned when you join them. Thank you
Thank you so much! One of the best tutorials I've seen. I love how you zoomed in so we could see the actual stitches. I'm basically a beginner, and still learning. So thanks again.
I like the idea of using bobby pins for stitch markers. I always have bobby pins lying around so that's helpful!
Me too, I'm new at crocheting and I don't have stitch markers so I just try to use Bobby pins and it works 🤣
What a great pattern and tutorial-thank you so much! I want to make this bag for each of my bridesmaids as gifts!
This bag is so gorgeous. I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for the tutorial.😀
Great idea using drapery cord for a handle. You can use a small drapery tassel, too.
I love the side bar that shows the instructions.
Love the way you show the written pattern on the left - great idea
Thank you for this beautiful tutorial! It's my 1st time in trying to make something like this, and I love the yarn. Can't wait to see this project done, and start to show it off.

I absolutely love this pattern! I need some help tho... when I add a new skein, how do you recommend the most effective way of joining the yarn without it falling apart?
Wonderful pattern
I love this bag. It is so pretty
I’m gonna try this on my loom.... wish me luck☺️
Do you do your first SC in Round 2 in the same spot as the slip knot or next sc?
This bag looks amazing! I'm going to order me some 24/7 and catch up! So excited!
My bag turned out perfect thank you very much for sharing

Hi can you pls tell me how thick is the twisted cord rope.I have ordered 3mm thick but it’s very thin☹️
The bag is very pretty. Will finish my rug and will come back to this tutorial.great tutorial . I have a question when you insert the eyelet doesn’t it mess up the stitches? The eyelet won’t rip the stitches ?Call me dummy for asking such question :-)
Holes for the eyelets are crocheted right into the pattern so you don't need to pound out the fabric like you normally would when inserting eyelets.

How many do you chain if you want to make this smaller?
Love this bag! What are the measurements of the finished product?
Did you find out the measurements?
Is there a video for your adult and child beach bag?
I had to sneak a peek before going to work, even if it makes me late!
What are the measurements of the bottom piece after row 24? I feel like mine is so small 🥺
If I wanted to make this wider, what is the count to increase?
Can you tell me the stitch increments so I can adjust size for my young granddaughter who wants one.

I love this!! Definitely a perfect summer project. Now, I’m curious of what editing software you use. Your videos are great!
Aww thank you! I just use a combo of Photoshop and iMovie. Nothing fancy :)
Hi, may I know grey and white is how many metre to complete the bag. Is it use 1.5mm thread? Thks
I want to make a smaller version for my lunch box...can u help me out wit the stitch count
Yes I found these informations in your link. Thank you very much! :-)
I am also curious about making the bag smaller at 156+1 is this divisible by 3, 4 or 6?
I was thinking like a messenger bag with 1 shoulder strap... I can figure out the strap holes, but I ❤ this pattern and dont know what the division would be.
Just keep an even number as your stitch count and as long as you can eyeball the eyelet holes, you'll be fine :)
Excellent Tutorial...Thank you! 🙏🏻👏🏼👍🏼💕
“And now, go chain 157!” That suddenly reminded me of professor snape
Nice bag and good job...where did you buy the yarn from
Lion Brand
Hi..can you please give us the dimensions of this bag.
Any suggestions, my stitch marker fell out and I can't figure out where my beginning round is, also not sure how to count the rows. I was hoping counting would help me to find my beginning but i can't figure it out.
I always leave the beginning tail of my work hanging loose for that reason. I prefer to connect the very first row so I have more even rows for the base.
My first CAL, I'll try to finish on time :)
Just one ? I was wondering can you not do a chain of 78 and go around the chain. Then you don't have to see the bottom together later just do the flaps inside.
Nevermind I tried it. It does work too well. Thank you
What are your measurements for this tote bag? I’ve just completed the first 24 and it seems really large. Not that I mind, I love a large bag!
15.5" wide x 12" tall x 6" deep. All of the information can be found at www.yarnandchai.com/malia-shoulder-bag :)
Can you wash and air dry this bag. I have fuzz I want to try and get rid of. Yarn is 100% cotton.
Also love this pattern!
You'd need to look on the label of the specific yarn you're using, but my guess is yes. Mine washes great.
I love your videos! Although I do have a question. How do you eliminate the bottom gap when you join the rows? Mine looks like one row is lower than the other. TIA!
You just use your starting tail to sew it up before you weave in that end :)
hola buenas noches un abrazo por tan hermosas creaciones Dios bendiga sus manos gracias por este tutorial lo entiendo y lo pondre en practica pronto es bello
This bag is adorable. I am going to make one for sure. Just curious. Could you use chainless single crochet for this first row? Just curious. It would save some time.
You can FSC 156.
Great! Thank you so much for replying to my comment. Much appreciated.
