Thank you for the warning! It can save people like my sisters life❤️
Just so you're aware while there isn't a specific wheelchair accessible doom buggy on the haunted mansion there are transfer assist cars that are easier for wheelchair users to get in and out of than the standard ones I think it's a slightly wider opening and theres a cutout to the bench whereas on the regular ones it's more enclosed
It's been documented that Big Thunder Mountain is a bit smoother if you ride in the front of the train. Might be something to consider.
gprimr1 definitely agree, as a frequent Disney visitor, the front of slinky dog and big thunder are much smoother than the back, but they are also much slower
Totally agree
I mean same goes for all rollercoasters because the front cart pulls the weight of the rest of the train and the back gets dragged by the weight of the carts in front. That’s gravity for ya
Dear Gem,
I myself am not a wheelchair user, but I have always wanted to work at Walt Disney World because I love it and to try and make it more accessible for all people. I have enjoyed watching your other videos about the parks and the hotel you stayed at. I am glad you enjoyed your time there. Thank you for helping me learn so much!
I'm really glad its helped you. I hope you do get to work there. Im sure you would be an asset to Disney. :)
I love your focus on the accessibility of the rides.
24:54 Sorry, Daisy, but I have to agree with your dad on this one.
Speaking of...did Shaun get his hat back?
I’ve been to WDW about 15 times and this video is genius!!! It gave me some new ideas on possibly easier ways to transfer onto certain rides!! Thank you SO much for doing this video!!!
My sister wants to go for the 1st time for her 15th birthday. She has spina bifida and has little to no mobility from the waist down and needs help transferring now that she's older. I appreciate this video because it can help us plan out the rides she may be comfortable doing. Before, I could never imagine her being able to have any fun on rides. Thank you!
I always felt like "it's a small world" should be at epcot lol 🤣
Omg I am obsessed with the pink on your wheels. Too cute!
You make transferring look so easy! Makes me think I might ride rides at an amusement park again someday... very informative.
Loved this video! Just want to clarify that on Thunder Mountain we do have a vehicle where the side folds inward (simular to slinky and mine train) for an easier transwer, its isnt always requested, but they are supposed to ask if it is needed.
I use a mobility scooter when I’m at theme parks since I can’t do a ton of walking, but this video has been super helpful to see the actual ride vehicles. Thank you so much!
DPT student here! These videos are so helpful for learning about genuine experiences that patients with wheelchairs encounter. I love your channel. It makes me a better practitioner and ally!
I was wheelchair bound for 2 years and I am so glad there were places like Disney that are accessible (especially the Disney water parks!)
I absolutely LOVE Disney's travel system. My wheelchair and my mobility scooter are easy to use in them, the Cast Member who is driving is always super helpful with strapping you in and navigating on and off the bus, and its FREE.
Thank you so much for these Disneyland videos, because of them I've just booked to go to Disney Resort next year. Although not in a wheelchair I do have mobility issues, but watching you has given me the confidence to do it.
Ian Cameron I hope you mean Disney World! It’s much more accessible. I have mobility issues as well- let me know if you have any questions!
Disney world!
Ian Cameron I’ve just been to a Disneyland Paris and the access really varied depending on the ride.
I’m a guide dog user which, is where the probs came in.
This is so helpful. I've lived in Florida for my whole life, spent a good bit of my childhood at Disney World and can only think of four rides I've ever gone on: Small World, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, and Buzz Lightyear. Its been over a decade since I last went so I can't remember their actual names. I get the transfer thing. It's a hassle. Just a little tip for those with hypermobility and are going to Busch Gardens - watch out for the River Rapids rides. You sit in a hard seat with only a lap buckle in a round raft. You get tossed around quite a bit. Don't worry: you still have the option to squirt the riders and get them all wet. I love the ride but sometimes it's not worth the risk so that's nice to have.
I'm glad the transportation worked out so well for you. When my family and I went to universal (who uses the same model bus) people kept showing up the wheelchair ramp before my little sister could get on.
Thank you for the Hypermobility with fast rides tip!!
That was really good advice!
Nikki Griggs be careful with it though! (especially if you have loose joints, dont want to ride anything jerky with a joint out!)
LOVED this!! Thank you so much for doing these videos. My oldest has gotten even more excited about going to Disney after watching these.
I love how positive she is she’s not super negative about how not all places don’t have really good wheelchair accessibility she’s aware of her condition and she learns to make the best out of it that’s why I love her
Gem thank you did a great video. I’ve been to WDW 4 times and my upcoming trip is the first fully wheelchair using. I’ve been worried about how to cope and your videos have been a great source of info and reassurance fir me so thank you for all yours and your family’s efforts xx
From one wheelchair user to another love your vlogs keep them up 💗💕💜💓
I recently went to WDW and pushed around a friend of mine in the wheelchair, and we used DAS the whole day. Most of the rides were very accessible, but some were a little bit more difficult. The line for Thunder and Space Mountains had quite steep inclines (quite obvious now that I think of it). Thunder Mountain had a shorter wheelchair line, which only made for about 10 seconds of struggle, but for Space Mountain it was almost entirely an uphill climb for several minutes. Still, though, overall very accessible. Those were just my notes as the one of my duo doing the heavy lifting.
I looked this up outof curriousity. Im so filled with joy that everyone can experience these rides!
You and your family are a God Sent on these videos for Disney...My Wife is not totally Disabled as you are "or Not" and you are not totally disabled as others...so this is the perfect medium to observe to see how Disney actually works on their rides ...Thank Thank Thank you for producing these videos...because I, who am not disabled, have never given consideration to this question on Handy-Capable...lol but my wife can't be in the sunlight nor walk very far due to her Fibromyalgia and Loupes...and then there is the Florida Heat to contend with which also limits her range of extensions in the daylight hours of the outdoors...I was searching now for a trip for her and she has never been to Disney...Myself about 5 times on and off...just wanted to let her enjoy the fun that I did...BUT I GOTTA PUSH HER CHAIR...GRRRR...lol. Blessing to you and yours...Tell Hubby HE IS DA MAN!!!
Shaun laughing on space mountain 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Made my day xx
Hhaha I know!!!
i love your content so much!!! it’s so incredibly informative and a great perspective when visiting Disney that most able bodied people don’t think of. it’s a breath of fresh air in the ocean of disney vlogs 💕💕
What a lovely comment. Thank you so much. X
Watching your Disney videos always makes me want to teleport myself there!
I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxuxJwamLFanm476LC5WPeTouyyU1GXomC was perfect! It’s lightweight enough that my friend could carry it up or down stairs when we needed to. (I can walk very short distances) It was comfortable for me to sit in, I would say if you’re super tall it might be a little cramped. I’m 5’1” and the foot rests were the perfect height. This may not be the best one for long term use, you get what you pay for, but for something that fits our budget that gives me accessibility while we deal with my health this was amazing.
Great video. (and your little girl is beyond adorable! You can just see how excited she is and how much fun ya'll are having.
)
Thank you so much for this. This is beautiful and I am happy you seemed like you had a wonderful time. Bless you.
Thank you so much for this. I’ve recently become a full time wheelchair user. I can stand independently but not for long and I’m very unstable. We are planning on going to Disney world in 2022. This is really helpful and gave me confidence. Have you done universal too?
I’m glad to see you having fun
Your amazing! So motivated 🙌💖
I want to be an imagineer for Disney, so these videos are really important and helpful to watch. Thank you for uploading!
so love this video. thank you for sharing your adventure. Enjoy your weekend
His laughter makes my day. 😆
I love watching your videos so much! I have spina bifida so this video was really helpful thank you!
Fantastic video for seeing how to transfer onto rides. Wish I had seen videos like this before we went !
OMG wow your an inspiration Gem! Can’t remember but hope I’m ok posting you on my blog for other wheelchair users.
Yes that’s no problem. Thanks for the support. X
Congratulation, Space Mountain is my favorite roller coaster in this park 😍😍
Planning our Disney vacation and I love this video. My daughter has Spina Bifida and I hope she has as much fun as you have ! Thank you so much for this video !!
Great video. I love your husband laugh. I felt the same way about big thunder mountain. It was very painful. I remember turning to my husband saying ‘perhaps I’ve hit my threshold of rollercoasters’. Glad to know I wasn’t being a woose’
I do not have a disability nor a wheelchair, but I really enjoyed watching your video and I will watch more! I am now even more aware of handicap accessibility and I am so elated and excited to see that you had a wonderful time and are able to enjoy the rides with everyone! This was very educational and helpful for everyone with handicap, as well as no handicap. I’m so happy to see your videos out there for everyone to see!
Wow! You did amazing with transferring.
I have CP and have been going to the parks for years but this is an amazing blog❤️❤️❤️
THank you, I was very curious about this! 😊
Glad it helped x
Great video again. Very useful AND entertaining! Pro tip - if you do a full transfer where you can, they often let you ride twice eg pooh and buzz. If it has a separate loading area, like test track, often twice there as well.
My wife discovered your channel a week before we headed to Disney world. My injury level is T1 and I got a lot of confidence after seeing your videos.
An issue for me, even pre-injury is that I’m 6’7” (2m) talk and weigh about 230 lbs, so fitting into rides has always been an issue.
Splash mountain was the worst for me. I was able to slide down feet first and took the whole row by myself so my legs could go across. The problem getting off was that my legs kept getting hung up on the steps of the transfer device and I could not get up by dragging my legs like it looks you could. Eventually I used up all my energy with multiple failed attempts to get to the chair and had to wait a minute or two to recover.
It felt like an eternity with the ride stopped and everyone looking down at me from the queue.
Thank you for documenting your adventure. I wish I had done the same to show how taller people have a different set of challenges. On the plus side my long arms are an advantage in reaching for bars and other things to grab for support.
Thank you for sharing this with us! My family will be going to WDW this June and bringing my mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair. This has been incredibly helpful in knowing what to expect. ❤️
Great information thank you for putting together!!!
A really informative video. A great video for WC users who think theme park rides aren't accessible x
Fabulous video, wish I had seen it before my daughter and I navigated Disney in a wheelchair after she had a fractured leg. We found Disney cast members so helpful and your video is so informative for people wanting to enjoy Disney in a wheelchair. 👍🏻
Omg I can relate to all of these I didn’t even know that there was a accebilaity on 9:47 lol also ty for showing this to UA-cam because I’m in a wheelchair and I have trouble finding rides for people with disability like me!
I want to thank you so much for making these videos about WDW. I am planning a trip and I am in a wheelchair due to my MS. I'm so glad to know that I will be able to ride some things with my daughter!
After dating someone years ago who was another wheels not heels gal. It’s so nice to see the accessibility to the parks these days. Keep living it up with your great family and two thumbs up.
Good for you girl you rock 🚔
RIP hat
I will be visiting Disney world this Christmas for the first time. Due to chronic back & knee pain, I can't walk long distances or stand for a long periods of time. I'll be renting a mobility scooter to get around. Thank you for your videos that show how accessible Disney parks are
Loved the tooth bit at the end. LOL!
love ur disney videos
Loved this video Gemmie!! Brings back memories of our WDW holiday, so desperate to go back ... who knows maybe next time we will make it a family affair 😄
ive only ever been to disney world when i could walk- 6 years ago now! this gives me a lot of hope to be able to enjoy a lot of the rides once again if i ever go again.
You make it look soo easy!
Thanks for showing all the transfers! This is really interesting and gives greater awareness to people on the challenges facing wheelchair users. Thank you!
You did great getting on the rides and I love it
Thank you. It was so much fine have you been?
Your welcome
follow your IG and so glad i came across your youtube, deff hitting disney and possibly universal soon, and this video lets us see the reality and expectations ! thank you so so much !!
Thank you so much for this video!! I went to disney with my fiancé in the summer and we intend to go back in a few years. We hope to go with my parents when we have children and my dad is in a wheelchair. The last time we went he was using crutches but since then he has deteriorated. I will be showing him this video so he can see he will be able to go on some rides 😁
I've just foind your channel and I'm reallt happy that you are sharing what you do to help and inform others.I have a hidden disability and people never believe me when I tell then I have one.
I think you got on the space mountain ride vehicles better than I do, and I’m not disabled, so good on you!
I think you did a brilliant job of showing to you transfer onto the rides.
I may not be in a wheelchair but I found your channel really handy to watch.
Thanks for this video. Going to Disney in the fall.
the picture from haunted mansion was lovely!
That arm strength tho!💪👏🏻
Disney workers are the best!
Wow!
i love it.
I was always curious about this! Makes me happy to see how accommodating the parks are
Last time I went to Disneyworld I had foot surgery, and while I was healed enough to walk/stand on them around my house in my medical boots, my doctor said I should "stand as little as possible" during the trip, and I always felt bad about the idea of doing the seat transfer stuff...I mean I also felt bad parking the mobile scooter to get up for a ride queue or indoor shopping... It really just wasn't the best experience, since I was so self-conscious about needing it for doctor's orders the entire trip xD
Brilliant content, great channel
Thank you now I know how to get on the rides from my wheelchair
I know this is a little older but thank you for posting it. I love Disneyland but had to go through a below the knee amputation in July of this year. I’m 33 now and am planning on trying to go to Disneyland in February of 2024 (I’ll be 34) I’m able already to take a few steps on my prosthetic but have only been using it since September. I am hopefully I will be able to walk at that time with just a cane or just the prosthetic but again will be going around mostly in my wheelchair. It was good to see that you could still enjoy the ride even without being fully mobile
This helps because I'm in a wheelchair and even though I can temporarily get out,I will spend most of my time in a wheelchair at Disney.thank you!
I really enjoyed this video. My mom has been in a wheelchair for 20 plus years and we know the struggles of theme parks and everything. We have not been to Disney since they started this fast pass and I was hoping you could talk about that some. How did they work and how long did you have to wait? I am subscribing to your channel and will be showing my mom your videos. Thank you!
*edit*
I found the video about the passes. Thank you.
I’m so glad I watch your videos, I’m about to go on a trip to universal In a few days and I was just injured and given a broken leg right before it so now I have to use a wheel chair to get around in the park since crutches are too much.
Thank you for this (and all your) videos. I lost my left foot (BTK) 18 months ago. Afraid to visit Disneyland because of the transfer-element. You did a great job. Congratulations.
Had a captive audience of my own this fall when I got off the Pirates of the Caribbean and lost my shorts during transfer. That was fun.
We are heading to Disney in March 2024. Our son uses a manual wheelchair which we push. I really wish there were more accessible rides. He is not a rollercoaster rider so we’re okay with not doing any of them. His favorite ride was the great movie ride at Hollywood Studios. This may be one of our last trips so we are going to attempt all the rides we can with him. He can transfer with our help but those moving belt rides he cannot do. I’m disappointed that there is no accessibility for the People Mover. Thanks for your video.
My high school senior trip we went to Disney in California. My crush actually got his foot stuck on the Peter Pan ride and needed surgery. Although quite painful to him, we can laugh about it 25 plus years later (being that it was "Peter Pan" and not a crazy ride like Space Mountain!)
Looks like y'all had a fabulous adventure. I live far away from a Disney Park now, but being critically ill, I really hope I can have a chance to visit a park again someday...especially a waterpark.
Oh no re: losing the hat on Splash Mountain!
Headband, it is very beautiful. It helps many wheelchair users. Thank you.
It seems like the newer the ride the easier the transfer and that makes me kinda happy🙂
I so appreciate your mentioning about considerations for hypermobility. I'd love to go to Disneyland and have been trying to figure out if/how I'd be able to go on any rides. (I have Hypermobile EDS).
So jealous I wanna be with you ❤️💙💜
Accessibility on these buses are just like the city buses where I live!
Good video
You're videos are very insightful for me because I need to rent a scooter because my knees couldn't support the steps needed to walk in the parks.
I love pirates of the caribbean attracion i was in Disneyland in pirates of the caribbean ride is so awesome and beadiful
