There are many interviews with people who were involved in his life at some point, such as Tony Visconti, Trent Reznor, Iggy Pop, Mick Rock, Iman and many many others. You'll also see a lot of beautiful concert- and other historical footage from the earlier years of his career. I'll upload this in 7 parts. Enjoy : )

Bing Crosby was not just an Icon of music. He invested his entire bank account in: 1. Saving the American recording industry during The Great Depression, by insisting recorded songs on 78 rpm drop their cost from 5 cents to one penny, and making up lost revenue to artists with his personal revenue, and 2. Saving the infant radio industry by buying up radio stations and beginning broadcasts that featured modern songs. Bing also created and patented the modern microphone with its new sensitivity to the human voice, as well as recording tape which could be modified to remove errors or missteps before taped radio broadcasts were heard throughout the world. The many innovations in microphones and recording, taping, radio station advances, etc. making the Crosby imprint on audio production continue to dominate even today.

Did David have an eerie sense he was seeing himself in Bing? Bing had struggled with alcohol during Prohibition, and eventually used what Bing and other musicians of his Era called reefer to calm and control the stress of becoming the world's first pop music icon. David's mother had experienced the Blitz and the immense effect of Bing's efforts to raise the spirits and belief in the future. She insisted David accept the offer to sing with Bing Crosby. David himself was shocked by how frail Bing was, and even more shocked by the power and perfection of Bing's voice, which Louis Armstrong called 'molten gold poured by God himself.'

last words in this part are not true and just a rethoric bauble. He didn't embrace the mainstream, because it was already mainstream not to be mainstream. In this moment it became attractive for him to play around with this hypes and anti hypes, that's all
