Whether or not people want to admit it, Hobie absolutely dominates in terms of engineering and innovation. EVERY other manufacturer of pedal propelled kayaks is playing follow the leader. That’s been true for 20 years since Hobie invented pedal drives and given their commitment to constant R&D it looks like it will stay true. It’s not the right brand for every customer, and paying for that kind of research is expensive, but for those whose needs are met and who can spend the money, Hobie’s innovation and quality is incomparable.
Hobie definitely deserves acknowledgement for the fin design and this new 360 drive, but Native also deserves a nod for coming out with the first prop drive which gave us instant reverse, a significant addition to kayak fishing technology (something Hobie still can’t match) and Jackson for being first to come out with a kick up drive and the shallow draft which gives you full power in shallow water (again something Hobie can’t match. Mirage drive can go in shallow water, but not at full power). Also, it’s still early in the game. I’ve heard from a kayaking rep that some of these companies are working on drives where you can shift gears like on a bicycle, which will give you much more speed and power when you need it. Regardless, any new innovation by any company is a plus for the kayak fishing community, so let the competition roll.
Nice to see Hobie is catching on to the idea of zero turn radius (360 degree turn) in a fishing craft. We've been doing it for 10 years and this kayak is still not a Twin Troller.
This drive is amazing. I'm usually willing to pay for innovation, but this price is really steep. I was really excited to get it initially, but when I sit back and think about, I'm not so sure now. I would definitely have to sell quite a few things to justify this.
I thinks it's like anything you buy. For example, you can get a bass tracker for a lot less money than a ranger, and they pretty much do the same thing. That's with anything you buy. I mean are Levi's better than wranglers for half the price. If you're going to get a new kayak every couple years I say bad investment, but if you're going to be using it for years to come, then I say get the one you want regardless of price. Just my thoughts. Thx Aliex! I appreciate your hard work getting these videos out so quick.
The control you have from the rudder and fins is amazing. $5,000 worth of amazing? Probably not. Lots of options in handling relatively strong current or wind with that drive. Would be killer on the outback though.
Gee Aliex you are one lucky guy who get to try most of the kayak out there mate :), how would you compare the 360 to PDL 120 topwater in stability, fishibility and maneuverability ?
Jeez, Hobie is like Apple... They overcharge something awful... If I'm going to pay that much... I want an electric motor, battery included... I'm sure it's pretty cool... But forward and back is fine, I'm not operating a 300 ton craft that I need side thrusters for crying out loud... It's a tiny boat...
Boa Tarde. Um dia DEUS vai me dá. O privilegio de ter um caiaque desse na minha vida. Esse caiaque. Com esse pedal, é o sonho de consumo para todos, que pescam com Caiaques. Gostei muito.

State of the art... the guy who designed that is a genius..this design will go a long way...

Aliex you have the most entertaining kayak reviews by far!
Thank you!!! We all the not so lovely comments I get, this means a lot, thank you again 😁

That drive is pretty bad ass.
And the boat is awesome for you

I wonder if you can use bixpy motor where the pedal drive is in.
Unless bixpy does an adapter to it I don't think so but this is a brilliant idea
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Another one came up
Amaze-balls! Aliex you’re so great to watch and learn from. Thank you for being you! #bringjoy #mirage360 😮😃🎣
Would you prefer the 12 or 14 for the bays?
Wow. That's crazy cool
Indeed!
Great job Alex. It’s a cool concept but i think I’m going to wait a few years for them to work out the kinks.
It is always prudent to wait
Oh my goodness that's just amazing stuff great job Aliex 😎
Where does the flat screen go? I want one. What a boat. Go Well.
Icant afford it but that is the coolest thing to happen to kayaks,
can the drive be added to previous Pro Angler 14s..or do you need to buy a whole new yak
Only fits the new mirage pas
That's amazing!!
Amazing tech for sure, I'm gonna do a few more videos on this, one compile all in one and the other after icast, what are my thoughts on the 360
Really cool
Gee Aliex you are one lucky guy who get to try most of the kayak out there mate :), how would you compare the 360 to PDL 120 topwater in stability, fishibility and maneuverability ?
Umm gonna have to think about this one
@@AliexFolgueira no worries mate ✌️
1st! Great video!
Congrats 😁
Lol had to laugh at the Hobie guys were all over you hah
Watching me closely
Like CIA agents
Maybe they are Gov employees 🤔
Aliex Folgueira whoa like maybe Hobie is a front for a secret government run organization??? That would explain prices anyway.....

Just means it isn’t for you, this would be a game changer for fishing structure using solely the drive in the kayak
Boa Tarde.

At least your shoes matched .
I was having a good morning lol
I like the kick up but i’m not sold on 360, too much stuff to go wrong.
Yeah lots of new stuff but they have been at it for 6 years, should be fine
Lol😂 he said oh its Aliex... 👍🏽
Lol
for some reason I think they don't like you... "hoooo is Aliex..."
Nah, they like me lol 😂
