Let's go FFR! It's been 3.5 years now. Time to get this series completed. This series is a huge instructional as well as marketing platform for the MKIV. I'm probably not the only potential customer who would like to see this series finished out and completed. So please!! Get this back on the priority list and finish it out!
Man- this is such a great build- I'm still so sad that my MKII got flooded out in Hurricane Sandy before it was finished. Wish I could afford another one, too. So much fun with my dad building it and we both hoped to drive it and cruise.
This series was started in February of 2013 and now hasn't been updated in 13 months. Considering that the purpose of these videos are instructional and not entertainment, it really leaves people hanging. I greatly appreciate that it was an extra that Factory Five provided to help builders & would-be builders and I hope there is a plan to see this series through to completion. Before I feel I can confidently start my build, I would like to have these as an additional resource. Thanks
Mick, We are aware we need to get back on these videos, finding the resources/time to build up another MK4 to continue the videos is the challenge. There is the build school, everyone I have talked with has had nothing but great things to say about the build school. www.factoryfive.com/build-school/ Greg
Yes, we are hoping to get back to making the build videos. The first car we started the videos with became the 289 USRRC car and the next one became the 20th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster. Since then, we haven't had an opportunity to get back to the build videos with other projects we've been working on, but it is definitely on our project list to return to the build videos. Dave L.
This is exactly my fear if I start one of these projects. Invest in the kit, get half way thru the project and something else come along that prevents me from finishing it. Then every week the wife reminds me how much time and money we spent on this. So in this way the video series is pretty accurate. Come on guys, it looks like a great product, let not leave folks hanging. Hey, I've got a great idea! Lets start a whole new video series with a real customer (me) who pays for the kit (me again) and have me and your engineers build it at your shop. Just let me know how much time I need to take off work and I'll be there. Mike I
Any ideas when the next video will be? Really hoping to see a finished car at some point in this series. It seems much more straight forward than I thought it would be to build.
still waiting guys......pleeeeeeeeeez . really wana see the compleated build, its a cool informative series......please try to finish it. Helps every one see or get a better idea on "how to" cant leave us hanging.regards ant Thailand, dreaming of ff5 build
I have a 351 Boss that I'd like to put into the pending Cobra project. How do I align the motor mounts, brackets, bolt patterns, etc., to fit into the car? Do I need to make a custom plate, tack weld it, bolted to the motor mounts and engine first, or is there a solution from Factory Five already designed? Thanks!
yo guys when are you gonna finish this series on building the mk4? kind of left us all hanging? the vids are great.....but you need to finish the series. regards a big fan.
Hi @Factory Five Racing, is there an expected upload date for the next instalment in this series? I'm a visual learner, so these have been great for me to follow along with.
I noticed that in the beginning of the Mk4 video build series, generous time was allotted to the smallest detail providing a certain reassuring feeling that a non-craftsman could follow the instructions and accomplish the build. But as the series progressed, the steps become more complex while the time allotted to explanation became rushed and abbreviated. Then in just 4 minutes, we dropped in a Coyote engine...
This is what stops me,if you guys can’t finish a project how are we supposed to? These are excellent vids, maybe a bit more detail on the wiring harness ,it can’t be that simple? And we need the rest of the build vids. You will sell a lot more kits if you were to do a full online detailed free video tutorial accompanying the manual. Just watching makes me want to buy the kit tomorrow because it gives me the confidence to go ahead......but I’m gonna wait to see the rest of the build series it’s your best marketing strategy and tool by far. Actually seeing how one is built and don’t hide the problems. My order awaits your response.
Goodness, why did that take 3 people? With an equalizer, you should be able to get it on any angle you need. For an engine hoist, get an air operated pump. It will make it go much easier. This allows you to squeeze the valve remotely while you are wedging the motor into place. Having done several engine swaps by myself, including one in a motorhome, it should easily be done by one person. The air control on the lift or use an A-frame overhead hoist with an electric motor. This way you can control up an down remotely.
Happy Anniversary! It's now been 3 years since this last MK4 build video was posted and over 5 and a half years since the series was started. Is this series ever going to be completed?
We hope to return to the series again soon, but do not have an exact time frame. We're hoping to have time soon to build another Roadster so we can finish the build. With the previous chassis we were working on, they ended up being used for our 289 USRRC Replica build and then our 20th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster which is why we weren't able to finish the build videos before. We haven't forgotten, and will try to get more episodes posted.
The Mk4 Roadster we were making the build videos with was taken so we could launch our 20th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster. We hope to get back to the build videos for the Mk4 Roadster soon.
Using the mk4 platform and full blueprint engine/trans carburated package. Roughly how many man hours can I expect to dedicate to the build? ...I am a professional automotive master tech. With 13 years of experience
Iron American Dream on UA-cam. I can understand Factory Five improving the frame and the running gear, making more room in the foot wells. But why would Factory Five want to screw up the body?
Sorry everyone! We keep discussing starting the build series back up, but other projects keep pushing it back. It is on our to-do list and we hope to get back to the build series really soon! Dave L.
Jeff and others that would like to see the continuation of the Mk4 build videos, the Mk4 we were using for the build videos was used for one of our showroom cars. We are aware we need to get back on these videos, finding the resources/time to build up another MK4 to continue the videos is the challenge. Greg
Watched the whole series as ive not built a FF cobra but owned one and enjoyed it, reconfigured it several times and was now thinking of building a new one from scratch. Obviously these videos are edited down for time but many of the techniques shown are parochial and some down right dangerous. As someone who has spent 30 years as a machinist, mechanic, metal fabricator welder there are a lot of short comings with the techniques being shown in these videos, tech screws being used to hold brackets and cheap aluminum pop rivets used when stainless structural rivets should clearly be utilized as well as rivet nut inserts and proper use of grommets, the brake line video made me cringe completely. I didnt see the use of a torque wrench in any video or the explanation of the proper use of lock tight and degreasing parts before its use, the use of body panel adhesive and most importantly as many people will do this install over the course of months or years the use of a permanent paint marker to mark properly torqued bolts so you can keep track of what has been tightened properly during the course of the build. I realize these videos are clearly condensed for marketing purposes and the tools used are what your average homeowner might have in his garage but these videos should show the best techniques, processes and tools so your average consumer sees the best practices not what your average weekend warrior could achieve in their driveway with some cheap tools and aluminum pop rivets from Home Depot.

Thanks for responding, Greg. I attended Build School & it was awesome but would really like to have the videos as a memory refresh during a build.
Factory Five Racing You still planning on finishing these videos? Just wanting an update. Thanks!
