while both are just machines, it's hard to not feel emotionally attached to them, and their loneliness that will last forever
Same happened to me when I lost my buttplug 😢
MagnvsMarcvs you can find it in Uranus.
Should be docked and repaired when humanity has the capabilities for less than lightspeed travel.
@Cade Wiley I was referring to what they represent, than what they actually are.
I was surprised to find this kind of humour got to admit, it is funny. Gross, but nonetheless funny.
Watching this bought a bit of nostalgia. In 1977 I was starting my military career and Voyager was just leaving on it’s journey. Now, 43 years later I’m retiring and and voyager is leaving the the solar system. We have both completed our first journeys and are starting our next. What a trip.
Damn thats deep
Thank you for your Military service to our Country. Salute.
Wow that’s a nice comparison. You are cosmically bound to the voyager man
FUCKING SWEET!!!!
Imagine hitching a ride on it. It’s still not quite (but close) a light day away after all these years.
Astronomy is just so... mysterious and fascinating, I never liked something so much
Same!! I honestly wish I could take a career in astronomy but I suck at math.

Yeah me too I just don’t think I’m capable of doing all the math equations on finding distance and stuff like that. But I do love love astronomy

My life has been closely tied to these probes,
I remember watching and reading about the construction, then getting ready for the launch and watching the launch on TV.
The journey and pictures these little machines took have been a big part of my growing up, I've always caught up with their adventures.
The internet has made this even more enjoyable and accessible, I will always be keeping an eye on the twins.
As things are in the world of 2020, I wish I was with them!!
I have asked the overseer of our universe, if It would be possible for my soul to travel the stars for a million years or so before going to wherever we go.
I hope it's possible.
Peace to all, we are here for only a tiny fraction of time..
*Mick DeBergerac*
I feel the connection to them as well, I was 3 days old when voyager 2 was launched. This year, all three of us (voyagers 1, 2, and myself) all passed our 43 birthday. Lol.
@@Darkmattermonkey77 I may be 18, but i feel a bit of a connection to them too, I used to read all about them when I was in elementary, and I still love space today. I may of started following the voyager's journey pretty late due to me being born late, but i still can't believe we have sent objects THAT far out into space, and we're still able to get data off of it! It blows my mind how technology back then was so simple, and is so reliable still. Really it's insanely impressive, I feel like if you have a simpler device though, the less prone to failure it is. I'm sad that the probes will run out of power though, it's inevitable, and it will be quite a sad day. But they will never be forgotten.
I wonder what magnificent sights they'll encounter in space in their lifetime, We may truely never know.
Thank you for an absolutely outstanding comment!!

@Stephanie Logan Are you OK?
Do you at least know how light works?
@Stephanie Logan Erm... Yes you can see them from space. The atmosphere has nothing to do with it other than actually hindering us seeing them. That's why we build Hubble and The James-Webb space telescopes. Because we can see things better up there. It's the same reason we build observatories as high up in the mountains as possible.
Also... Look up, there's plenty of stars there.
This inspires me so much, this is why i take astronomy in college
Astronomy is more like a religion today, because people don't seem to need much proof for most things that are presented to them as facts and some scientists who try to challenge some theories are attacked like they would be heretics to a religion.
Adrian C he doesn’t need much proof because if he does astronomy he will see the amazing and beautiful proof with his own eyes
I both love and adore space exploration !!
@@adrianc3932 Adrian, you and the three people who agree with you don't seem to know much about Astronomy, or science in general. _ALL_ theories are there to be "attacked", that's what makes the good ones robust.
@@adrianc3932 I don't think you realise that we do that with EVERYTHING. We first believe what want to believe then ask for evidence if ever.
It is really mind blowing to think that the Voyagers will be traveling in space on time scales way, way beyond human comprehension and well after the Sun and Earth cease to exist.
At this point, science is more like a religion, because people don't seem to need much proof for most things that are presented to them
So amazing beyond our wildest dreams
Yup. They really got their money's worth from them too cos they're still sending back data (for the time being) long after they were supposed to have stopped working. As long as they don't run into some obstacle like a space rock or asteroid etc, they should keep on going forever, theoretically.
Onlya blown mind can imagine that!
Where is the F data?
This is a mini-documentary of rare quality.
And full of fun facts like. In 38,000 years it'll reach the closest star. And in 50,000 years itll leave the oort cloud, which is so large it reaches out halfway between here and the closest star.
These facts are not logically congruent.
@@trentonx Nope.
He said that in 56,000 years or so the spacecraft will leave the Oort cloud, which extends halfway between us and the current closest star, Alpha Centauri (closest RIGHT NOW).
He also said that in 38,000 and some years, the spacecraft will pass Gliese 455 (something like that), and at that time it will be the closest star (at that time, as in when the spacecraft has reached there after 38,000 years. It is NOT the current closest star).
Whats crazy is those voyagers were made in the 70s
exactly lol they are old but baby those technicians made reliable machines
You got that right Glitz. Back in the 70’s we all were struggling to find a TV repairman that could actually repair a TV.
I know, how could people that wore sideways flares, polyester ties and collars you could hang glide with make machines such as this
It was during space race. If space race kept going we would’ve made anti gravity machinery
It was better technology back then. Like a new car, performs better but not for long and the troubles comes pouring in. These things were simple and just works.
You forgot one possibility: Given enough time, if we don't destroy ourselves, we might develop space travel fast enough that space pirates will retrieve them to sell them on the collectors' black market.
Here I thought Captain Kirk and the kids on the Enterprise already did that.
WarpRulez yeah right!
Bigshot gangster Putin together a crew
In a Star Trek episode or movie a Klingon ship used it for target practice.
@@robertkidd3812 remember V GER from star trek the movie? Some race of AI machines took little Voyager in and made it colossal and equipped to collect "all data available" or something like that. Then it came back looking for it's maker. Pretty good movie. I remember being blown away by the special effects. Now they'd seem pretty lame compared to today's stuff
A lot of people in history made something that outlived them, something made to survive in the future. But only those involved in these probes really did build themselves and humankind some monument. Everything on earth will one time vanish but those probes will still be there far out in space. Hard to imagine. That's an accomplishment.
Absolutely incredible I'm still trying to get my mind around it
Well said.
Yeah it just blows my mind
It'll take a quadrillion quintillion years before proton decay reduces them to nothing more than radiation, so the most likely scenario, given that they're well below galactic escape velocity, is that they'll eventually collide with something in the Milky Way (or Milkdromeda) and be destroyed.
It's possible that they are destroyed already

But first we must build a SOUL MOBILE

Thing is, neither Voyagers have enough power to see anymore and have left those circuits to freeze to near absolute zero. Only five instruments are still kept warm enough to operate. Would you like to drift blind through the galaxy?
The Voyager missions are a monumental feat of mankind. You get a very different feeling thinking about what’s next for these iconic machines. The sense of adventure and exploration is unparalleled. Goes to show that mankind can do good when we really want to.
Nothing good if it falls to the wrong hands. A warring group of aliens with super technology know how.
Hand built, nothing lasts longer, those that made it have their DNA traveling the cosmos, always nice to hear about the voyagers updates, have personal interest as my wife built the control and communication modules for both voyagers
Thats pretty badass. Its amazing that the designers knew that the tech would be outdated rather quickly, and yet because of people like your wife, taking extreme care and doing a crazy amount of double and triple checks,we can still, over 40 years later, still receive info regularly from them both.Cheers to you guys, and tell the Missus a very warm thank you from us all.
Imagine in the future, humans travel beyond the Solar System and land on a comet or asteroid or possibly a rogue planet, only to find pieces of Voyager 1 or 2 on it. Just imagining the journey those two satellites are going on just leaves me breathless and loss of words. They are likely to out last us. The last piece of proof that a species of great intelligence existed on a pale blue dot in a beam of light orbiting a small star. What achievement we have made in Space Exploration still leaves me speechless.
we already know what happened to the probes... haven't you seen the first Star Trek movie?

Props to the engineers at NASA for being responsible and taking advantage of the rare planetary alignment.
The POTUS at the time had to be convinced. Nasa finally told him that the planetary alignment won't happen again for a long long time and that if they were going to do the grand tour they would have to take advantage of that planetary alignment before it was too late.
@@nebtheweb8885 Yeah I believe they said something along the lines of ''Mr.President, the last time this happened,Thomas Jefferson was sitting where you are now.''
And to an Administration that was willing to fund it. These endeavors didn't happen without a strong commitment to space exploration and backing it up with funding...aka...lots of money! When these babies were launched, I didn't think they had a chance of surviving this long! Nowadays, people take our exploration of the solar system for granted. Space shuttle launches became ho-hum for awhile. It's lost on a lot of people who live in these times, how awesome it is to construct and actually make happen, the launching, piloting, landing and ultimately the use of a rover on another planet. The pictures from the Hubble telescope to our probes of the solar system and its moons and planets were the stuff of dreams when I was young. And yet they are reality today! This is just the beginning. I hope we survive ourselves long enough to do and accomplish much more.

If you spend a billion dollars on what amounts to a radio and a tape player today I bet it'd still be working 10 years from now. Because that's what a Voyager probe costs adjusted in today's currency. They actually cost a bit more than a billion a piece. But I won't quibble. That bit more would set you up comfortably for 10 lifetimes too. You could get by on 13 million don't you think?

In theory we may one day invent a form of transport that will allow us to traverse the distance and recapture these craft. It would be amazing. However even if we could, should we? They were sent as a monument to mankind. To travel forever taking with them our hopes and dreams. They have worked amazingly hard for us. I guarantee you in 43 years we'll still be constrained by the same universal laws that have stood for aeons and are as immutable today as they will be until the universe comes crashing to a halt
The technology was amazing but what really made this travel possible was the calculations made to take advantage of the planets' gravities to gain the necessary speed and trajectory. This is why we haven't really improved that much the speed.

It is amazing to see this.
