A lander would be insanely expensive. Unless it was very heavily shielded, the radiation would fry any electronics in seconds. We do not currently have the technology to shield anything in that kind of radiation environment for more that an hour. And even then, the shielding would weigh as much as the rest of the lander.
@@montylc2001 what alternative strategies do you think might be viable for studying these high-radiation environments without sending a lander directly?
@@RuralJuror420 Titan is not in a intense radiation environment like Io is. Europa is not as bad, but bear in mind that the Europa Clipper is doing flybys of Europa and not going into orbit because the radiation is bad enough.
It's incredible just how magnificent our universe is. From the small to the large, humans have been discovering more and more about it. I am stunned by the beauty in all the detail, and every new discovery just entrances me more. It really is a shame the human lifespan is so short. So much to see and learn, and so little time for any individual to take it all in. We make do with seeing only a small portion of what has already been discovered, and another small portion of what is newly discovered, while many never care about any of these wonders at all and waste their lives on small and insignificant things.
Don't dismiss people who don't care about this. You may care, but what does that do? I am fascinated by topics like this, but my influence is nil. Those others you disparage maybe the very people who make your everyday life possible.
This channel deserves many more subscribers!! I love his narration and they always provide such interesting and new information about our universe! 👏🏽 Keep up the amazing work! 👍🏽
The surface of Io experiences temperature extremes, with some volcanic eruptions heating its surface to over 1,600°C, making it one of the hottest places in the solar system outside the sun.
Except they would not look like this. These images are made with false colors. Io has no lemon yellow, white, bluish, red patches. It's dirty yellow-brown body.
I wish I could (safely) land on Io, have a walk and see such a beautiful world with my own eyes. Imagine all those crazy colours, rock formations and lava lakes with gigantic Jupiter in the sky!
Juno was only supposed to be a mission that lasted 5 years or so, due to the intense radiation belts around Jupiter during its orbits. But a problem with the probe's propulsion system before it entered orbit with the giant planet forced mission planners to alter the previously planned orbital path which would have had Juno going around Jupiter once every 30 days or so. Instead, it was put into a more conservative 55-60 day orbit, meaning the probe didn't enter into the lethal rad zones nearly as often as it was originally meant to. This has had the upshot of extending it's lifetime considerably.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
i just noticed my name amongst others at the end of the video, very cool! 😊 (i used to be a patreon, need to change that again) io reminds me of a sour sweet from my childhood called jaw breakers 😂
Great video with a wide variety images from different sources. It was also great that you credit these images to different sources. I'm still gonna hold on to my wallet that holds cash though. Still need cash time from time.
Its incredible to think that if you saw this same moon in a thousand maybe two thousand years you'd think it was a completely different moon. I could be wrong who knows how long the larger volcanoes are but certainly in ten thousand years the surface will have been completely resurfaced.
Io is a tortured moon, just like how Io in Greek mythology was tortured by Hera (using a stinging gadfly) for years after Io had an extramarital affair with Zeus, Hera's legal husband
Do you think In millions of years it might support life because of the volcanic activity 🤔, it's probably too close to Jupiter for it to happen though, fun to think about.
I bet with all that sulfur if one COULD smell IO....it would be like every living soul on EARTH FARTING AT THE SAME TIME and the smell gets TRAPPED LIKE CARBON IN THE EARTHS ATMOSPHERE.

In a world with all that volcanic activity, Pele's name would have to show up. Amazing video!
pele is wonder in Hebrew
Excellent production as usual, thank you.

Fascinating, but certainly no vacation destination. Thank you.
Hope you and Rolo are doing well. 😊
Great vid , hooray for the real pics and voiceover 👍
Another great video Rob! Io is such an interesting moon!
NASA should figure out a way to drop a lander on io’s surface so that we could see the surface up close

It's fun to watch Io transit Jupiter.
good evening Rob - very interesting video
Imagine there is so much crazy volcanic glass and minerals on this moon!
Amazing
The best video of my favorit moon so fare.
Endless thanks Rob.
Fantastic work on Io, Rob 👏👏👏 thank you for taking the time to create and share compelling content. You are appreciated!

Io should be called Robert Frost's Moon - literally a "fire and ice" world
Thank you.
