- Here's a demo and free download of the preset I'll be using at gigs with my FM3* and FC-6 controller. The guitar is a fairly inexpensive Charvel San Dimas HT HH from 2017. The pickups are the tried and true combo of Seymour Duncan JB and '59. The guitar's 3-way pickup selector along with the coil split facility make it a solid and versatile machine of rock! Finally a gig next week. Yay. It's been a while.

*This preset was written in FM3 FW 1.06. It should run without too many issues in Axe-FX III firmware also although some tweaking may be needed.

One of the greatest things about these systems like Fractal is that they allow for so much more clarity that you can get the best out of any pickup, and it doesn't matter if you're using low our high output pickups. You can get the clarity and all the gain you want. It's absolutely revolutionary. And pickups like the JB still hold their own in this modern environment because they were designed right the first time.

I have a JB/Jazz set with a fantastic setting (courtesy of an Ibanez wiring scheme) - the neck pu in “parallel” just hits a beautiful hi-if sweet spot that has made my coil spill/tap redundant. Worth a listen.
Why is that whenever I watch vids from this channel, I get mad guitar envy. I've been trying to find that guitar for a while now. Really cool color.

It cleans well when you back off the volume knob. Every sound you have is top shelf. That JB sounds spot on Jeff Beck especially on Seagulls.
The pick up is actually jb named after jazz+blues I use to think Jeff beck as well.

@@1DerekMiracle Out of the box, the presets are better than the AxeII it replaced; but the CPU is about half the size. The functionality that can be assigned to the footswitches is fantastic, and I plan on adding a FC-6 at some point. Once you learn how to use channels and scenes, each preset can take on many faces. If you need CPU, get an old AxeII, or splurge for the III. But the FM3 is really all you need for most music.
@@robguffanti I mainly run just an amp with Reverb or in occasional delay.

As always great stuff, love your work. Still use your rig1 as main template for my fm9. How are u liking the fm9 as opposed to pedal board? My Novo with P90s seem to dislike heavy gain in certain venues, so experimenting with humbuckers. Cheers
So at the gig you would go through PA and monitor through powered monitor, or use amp? I would like to cover all bases for coffee shop gigs with my handwired fender deluxe and the FM3...

Have you tried the FM9? Just curious because I am considering the fm3 but if you add a fc are you better off getting the fm9 whenever they are available given the additional features of the fm9. Great video. Thanks.

Hello Brett from Spain. At the beginning of the video your preset isn´t CAB and sounds very Good. When i can to do a preset without cab? Why sound so Good whitout cab? Perhaps Because you output through the real amp?. I´m learnig to use fm3, i´m in the wait list. THANKS

Brett, how do you set your live rig up, can one run stage monitors in stereo at the same time as run through the PA in stereo, when using either the FM3 or AXE-FX. The Atomic CLR Active Wedge any good ?. Struggling to make a decision on what to buy an FM3 or AXE-FX & Atomic CLR Wedges. .... enjoy your video's thanks
Fair questions all, Leo. A lot of guys on big stages run in-ears and maybe a quad or something behind them for some ambience. Metallica do something like that, I believe. I like loud, stereo wedges in front of me (usually Nexo because they're a part of the medium-large touring rigs over here) but if I had the choice it would be CLR's because they're loud and true. FM3 or Axe-FX III? Depends on your needs. If you're playing classic rock where a simple amp model and some basic effects are all that's needed, the FM3 will probably suffice. If you're doing reverb/delay intensive things with multi-amp set-ups, you'll want the CPU clout of the Axe-FX III.
Hello, i am thinking of purchasing this unit and use in the efx loop of my older Marshall dsl40. Do you think by using my amp and use the modeling amp like Friedman you will still achieve the killer sounds of the Fm3. Thank you
It will run fine with your amp's FX loop but in my opinion you'd be defeating the whole point of the FM3's modelling capabilities by using it with another amp. You'll be at the mercy of your amp's speaker box and power amp which is fine, but you'll miss out on using the hundreds of included cab and amp models. Most of the Marshalls and Friedmans are adequately modelled in the FM3 firmware so you wouldn't really need your amps at all as long as you have some decent full-range monitoring. That's how I use it: straight to the house and through monitors.

Are you recording this running direct? I’m just curious because I’m looking into getting the fm3 for a recording set up. Also any studio monitors you recommend that sound good when playing 1 of these?
I'm not him, but Leon Todd records direct and it sounds incredible. You can also record direct input (alongside an amped sound if you wish) and use your FM3 as a re-amp if you're still looking for the tone you need, I'll try to find the tutorial video if you're curious. If you're looking for a budget guitar sound effects system, this gives you professional quality at a low price point.
I also record direct, but that doesn't mean anything as I'm not a professional musician haha
anyway to convert this to a axe3?
How do you get the download?
I thought we could only remove the cab in the preset, when i go directly to real amp.
the idea here is to simulate plugging straight into the mixing desk, like people used to do back in the day, when they wanted a super clean tone.

You can download it and import it to the Axe-FX III, no probs.
@@BrettKingman I tried that, but got a message saying it was for the FM3 and not the FX3. So I converted with FracTool, but it doesn't really work....some gurgly distortion or no sound.
