Absolutely amazing, and WOW!!! As an American, this is one of the reasons why I love Vanessa Ferrari so much. She has fought through pain in her Achilles for many years, and even competed at Worlds and the Olympics with pain, and yet she pushed through it. She had surgery right after the 2016 Olympics, and spent half the year recovering and working on, and perfecting new skills, as well as freshening up on old ones. And now, she is back stronger than ever, and with this explosive performance, I have a feeling that she will eventually get an Olympic medal.
I know right? After seeing this, and finding out that she was awarded a spot to Worlds in Montreal, I thought she was on the road for a huge comeback. Then she tore her Achilles tendon on floor final. I am hoping this is not the end of her career, as she has stated numerous times that she is planning on and training for Tokyo 2020. However, I am wondering if she or anyone else feels that Vanessa may have jumped the gun? As an athlete myself, I know what it's like to be injured, and then try to push and compete. You only make it worse. I wonder is he feels that maybe she should have skipped Worlds, and really have focused on making sure that the Achilles tendon was 100% healed before really getting back to competing.
Yeah I don't believe she was ready for this competition. She had surgery to both Achilles after Rio 2016. And one year doesnt look enough to fully recover from a surgery to a tendon of that kind since gymnastics has so many impacts... It probably was not the best option to compete at the worlds at full speed. I'm afraid she won't come back because two surgeries to an Achilles are not good... And I think it should be the coach job to make her fully recover before she went full on because has you said athletes tend to push themselves trough pain.
Exactly. Me being a competitive athlete, I know what it's like to be overzealous, and push through things. I'm a competitive runner (5Ks, 10Ks, and 1/2 marathons), and though I train all year round, my competition season goes from September to March/April time frame. The climax of my season is the half marathon in Disney World every January. I always tell myself that I would rather something happen in one of the small races, as apposed to something happening, and I am not able to compete in Disney. As for Vanessa's case, her coach should have been more watchful. I know the team is somewhat in shambles, including the ongoing drama between Enrico Casella and Carlotta Ferlito, but she should have skipped World's to allow more time to heal. Or she could have went to World's as a warm up, and to have fun, but just did easy stuff. I know she would not have placed high, or even looked like a fool, but her recovery is more important, and getting to the Olympics 2020 is more important One example is I ran a 5K last year right before Zydeco Half Marathon. I wanted to use that small race strictly as a warm up, and to have fun. During the race, I felt very competitive and energetic, but I had to keep telling myself Zydeco, Zydeco. Because throughout all the years that I've been competing, I've never done races back to back, and therefore didn't know what to expect.

Can we all cry now?

Strong music! My support on floor final in Montreal! You really deserve a medal! Good luck Ferrari!!!
Love the she is back! Love the music! Hate that the choreo doesn't match the mood at all.
