    Mastering chain tutorial would be amazing, Adam! I come back to these tutorials almost every year - such a great insight behind the incredible mixes of Boyce Avenue, can't thank you enough!

      Thank you, really appreciate that. I've changed a few plugins since these videos came out and should probably do an update at some point. I've wanted to do a mastering chain but to be honest, I really do very little with mastering. I've been using Ozone the last year or so as my main mastering limiter.

      @@AdamBarber3PR I have spent all of my time to figure out the Acoustic GT and Cajon sound like yours. Your sound blows me away. Anw, do you use any mic preamp for acoustic GT and Cajon?

    Huge thx for the information! The pandemic has served as the impetus to learn to record at home, and good info on how to do so with a cajon is a rare commodity. Got a little technical for me near the end, but gives me something to strive towards as I get more skill and software!

    This is really great! I love the cajon sound from
    Boyce Avenue and always wondered how it was done. Thank you for this sincerely! The cajon setup in how Boyce avenue and your sound has inspired me to play the cajon this way. Aside from recording, would recommend this as a similar setup for live sound as well?

    • @AdamBarber3PR
      @AdamBarber3PR  5 років тому +1

      Thank you. I have never tried this for live. I feel too many microphones would end up picking up too many other things and could potentially feedback as well. Maybe we some sm57’s in front, who knows. I’ve always just put a mic in the back port hole during live performances. If you try it live, let me know how it sounds!

    • @Desert_Punk23

      Adam Barber thanks for the response! I’ve carried my shure beta 52 and mic’d the inside of my cajon. From front of house, I’ve been told it sounds great covering a wide range while also scooping some mids out. There’s been rare occasions where an engineer would mic both the front (using a 57 or sometimes a condenser) and back. But most occasions just micing it inside with a kick drum mic like a beta 52 or Akg d112 seems enough.

    This Audix mic is designed for kicks, I suppose?
    Is is possible to get the similar sound if I use a condenser mic there?
    I got two condenser mics, one for the front and other for the back. But I don't get that kick sound as you got ..
    Advice?

    • @AdamBarber3PR
      @AdamBarber3PR  6 років тому +1

      Hi Adhiraj, I would try using both in front using a stereo pattern similar to what I have and then just bump up the low end on the EQ, or trigger a kick or 808 sample on the "kick" hits and blend to taste. Try lowering the mics a bit more to position them a bit more near the bottom. Hope this helps.

    Sounds great. Do you know which Meinl Cajon was recorded?

    • @AdamBarber3PR
      @AdamBarber3PR  5 років тому +1

      No, but I usually go to the local music store and test out a few different models. I think we paid $200-$300 USD for the ones we record with. I find the ones with the most snares inside sound the best for recording.
