  • Chicago Bears Rookie Minicamp News from Day 2, Saturday’s Practice from Chat Sports host Harrison Graham:
    Shane Waldron:
    - On Caleb Williams: “His arm talent and his ability to put the ball where it needs to be. That's evident from Day 1. Now, it's about keeping the learning, progress and keep moving forward with our system. But the arm talent and what he's able to do, it's fun to watch.”
    - On Williams playing more under center: “I think the one thing Caleb has shown is that he can be in all sorts of backfield alignments. He did a great job at his pro day, he’s played quarterback his whole life, so I think the biggest thing will be just the footwork and really mastering that first step from under center, something that he’s taken pride in already and really gotten a jump on in this rookie minicamp. But he’s played the position his whole life, just like these other guys have, so I think there’s a good, natural transition. It wasn’t something where Caleb was starting from total scratch with the drops and his footwork.”
    Eric Washington:
    - Excited about Gervon Dexter. Believes the Bears have the best Back-7 in the NFL
    Richard Hightower:
    - Very high on Velus Jones’ with these new kickoff rules.
    Rome Odunze:
    - Did not practice due to hamstring tightness as a precaution
    Caleb Williams:
    - Throws a tight spiral and very consistent ball. Getting praise from teammates and coaches already.
    - Kerry Joseph on Williams: “Coming into this minicamp, he was already light years ahead with the information he already had.”
    Kiran Amegadjie:
    - Excited being back home and playing for his childhood team.
    Admitted he does not know when he’ll be fully healthy as he’s recovering from a torn quad injury. Had the surgery in October.
    - On Caleb Williams: “He’s a big presence in the locker room already. First one in the building.
    Austin Booker:
    - Says he hasn’t played in a 3-point stance since high school. Says he likes it though cause it helps with pad level.
    - Has been in contact with Maxx Crosby. Got compared to him in the pre-draft process.
    Tory Taylor:
    - First draft pick to sign his rookie contract.
    - Richard Hightower told him before his first practice: “Hey, you’re a Chicago Bear.” Said it calmed his nerves.

      @BearsNow - I am definitely looking forward to the 2024 season. No QB is a guarantee, so I have cautious optimism regarding the offense. I hope Shane Waldron institutes a plan that initially is conservative with splashes of trick plays and long shots down the field to keep the defense on their toes. Focus on minimalizing turnovers versus trying to score 30+ points every game. They have the players at every skill position to create sustained drives and keep the defense fresh.

    You can tell that when he plays within the structure of the offense he’s very focused and very deliberate with his footwork… And you can tell he practices footwork it’s consistent when he plays a game. He keeps his eyes down Field, knows how to step up into the pocket instead of running backwards, he’s got a natural feel for pocket and he always seems to keep a good base with his feet and stay balanced. And obviously when he throws on the move he’s also well balanced as he can throw 40 yards at a weird angle to the opposite side of the field with accuracy. You can tell he will be able to do similar things like TJ Stroud in his first year as a quarterback in the NFL. That’s exactly why the Bears were interested in taking him they probably see a rookie quarterback who isn’t far off from understanding the NFL game.

    A little overstated on Harrison's part. Austin Booker is 6'4 240lbs another NFL combine. I'm sure he will put the weight on and be at least 250 by the start of the season.

    Velus, if used properly in the offense, not just as a kick returner, he could be a very deadly weapon if you design slant plays, sweeps, and other plays that highlight the best of his abilities then he can be a great asset for the Bears.

    If Velus Jones and Ian Wheeler can use their skills in more ways then just kick returns.. these Bears gonna have a well-rounded offense that is very dangerous with these added weapons.

  • @franzdoreza5230
    @franzdoreza5230 10 днів тому

    Robert Quinn was the same way, a slender 6-4 about 245or so.. He had skinny legs, not very big arms, so he had to muscle and build up his strength, very similar build to Austin Booker. But Quinn was drafted much higher in the first round, and Austin Booker was a steal in the 5th rd.

    • @thechannel2398
      @thechannel2398 11 днів тому

      @georgesimonis - I have been one for about 45 years. The key to the Bears'' success is the defense and running game, in my opinion.. Over the last 8 games in 2023, the defense was top 5 in the league in points allowed. Caleb Williams is not as elusive as Justin Fields or Kyler Murray, so he will need to be a sound pocket passer.
      OC Shane Waldron has been excellent over the last three seasons with the running game in Seattle. They ranked higher in rushing yards in comparison to their attempts. An efficient yards per carry. Waldron also helped Geno Smith reach his potential.
      I predict the Bears to be top 10 in the league in points allowed and between 12th and 16th in points scored. Every team in the division and the league improved, including teams that the Bears play outside the division (Arizona, Tennessee, Seattle, San Francisco, Houston, Indianapolis, Carolina and Washington).
      The Bears should realistically finish 9-8 or 10-7 which could be enough to get a wild card spot. Most people argue with me but I believe J.J. McCarthy was the best QB in the draft and the Vikings considerably improved their defense. I think the Vikings may surprisingly win the division.
      I hope the Bears and Caleb Williams surprise me and does better than my expectations. We shall what happens....
