- Tom was thrilled when he found out he was a candidate to receive focused ultrasound treatment for essential tremor in his dominant left hand. A year later, he was invited to participate in a clinical trial for bilateral treatment using focused ultrasound - a second procedure to address the tremor in his non-dominant hand. Tom and his brother Phil talk about their experience with focused ultrasound and their hope that the technology can become more readily available for others, including many in their extended family who have also been impacted by essential tremor.

I hear ya. I had to give up many things, including playing guitar and graphic design because I can't hold my hands steady. I'm hoping to get focused ultrasound someday when I can afford it.
I'm going through essential tremor no medication, I'm not sure if I'm a candidate. I've been leaving with essential tremor for almost 8 years or so.
Please get this for us young people, we do have et as well. I'm a mma fighter and don't want this to hold me back from living my dreams. This is changing lives, and it could change mine. Please make all insurances get this.

This is good news to have bilateral ultrasound treatmment i hope here in oregon we can have bilateral treatment . I my self have parkinsons i am currrently looking into starting to see if i am a candidate for focus ultrasound at ohsu in portland oregon . I am suppriesed that when i mentioned focouse ultrs to my doctor they seemed that they know much or deny that treatment exist because my doctor is pushing towarrds getting deep brsin stimulation deevice but i am second thoughts on that device i even tell my doctor that i scared in having a dbs devices put into my brain . I just hope doctors can catch up to new and deloping treatment because right now it up every indivual who are suffering parkinsons to do research and figure out which trestment to pursue and bring it to attention to their doctor and see if the doctor agrees kr not .

Is this treatment available in India, or any other country in Asia? How long is Focused Ultrasound treatment? How much is the approximate cost?
I am in Australia. I have been told it is $33,000 AUD per side at the moment. It is not approved by our Medicare system and therefore not covered by insurance,
It sucks that this treatment is usually not covered by insurance and can cost an excess of $20,000. So here I am a musician who is livelihood could disappear in the next 5 to 10 years.
Medicare now pays for this…
