All this time, and I never knew you were in the Army. HOOAH!!!! I'm an Army vet as well. It's rough on the back for sure, but as of now I don't have any issues. Thank you for you're service Gene.
Great set up, Gene! I have a very similar set up, less the micro pole. I see questions here on why you have the PA and a boat. In addition to getting into small lakes and ponds where your bass boat can't go (size/power restrictions, lack of ramps), it's also very quick to load the kayak and go fishing in the evenings after work. I can load my yak in the p/u, and be on the water fishing at the local lake in 20 minutes. I have also caught my PB LM from the Pro Angler - it's an awesome fishing rig.
Love the Yak videos Gene. I do most of my fishing from a Santa Cruz Raptor. One of these days I'll probably make the switch over to a Hobie pedal yak. Keep pumping out the awesome videos!
Funny that you post this today. Sold my Jackson Big Rig yesterday and ordered my PA14 just before I got the notice that you'd posted this video. Hope to have mine on the water this weekend. The t-bone is made by BooneDox. Best money I ever spent on an accessory for a big kayak.
Go Dawgs! Enjoyed your video. Wow, what a nice, practical, stable kayak. I just moved to coastal Virginia and have been looking at boats for crabbing and in-shore light tackle fishing. This just might be what I need.
I was just online looking over Hobies and other fishing platforms. Your rig is awesome and I'm hoping to get into something similar sometime in the next year or so. Tight lines!
second video ive seen from flukemaster...I really enjoy them brother! you are very informative and put some real information out there that we can use. keep up the good work. hooah!
Gene that is a sick set up. I can't believe how far they have come with the new add on's. Any chance you will ever do a video on reel maintenance? Showing us the key areas to grease and lube the reels for spinning and bait casting? I just ordered all of that stuff and would love to see exactly where I need to place it without possibly damaging my reels.
+John Vogel I don't do my own spinning reels. A lot of things can go wrong with those but I do have a video on basic reel maintenance and there is a link to some videos by TackleJunky81 that goes into a lot more detail. ua-cam.com/video/pa1xpXiSVWg/v-deo.html
Ive got the same yak. Hopefully you made mods to your cart because the wheels will try and burn holes in the bottom. The cart was never redesigned to truly haul a PA. No matter how tight those rubber grommets are they will slide down. . I added PVC to mine and that keeps the yak high enough off the wheel when using the cart
Nice. If you ever watch Marty Zoefinger's channel he has a PA 12 with the Micro anchor. He puts one of his GoPros on the end of the anchor for a great overhead view. Looks really cool.
Something to consider...insulating your front hatch, vids on youtube, super easy nice addition. I store raingear and first aid in dry bags in the hull, draw string up to tackle compartment. Tacklewebs are nice for extra storage on back and under seat. Hope we can get together and fish Chick again in the yaks, would be good times.
+Flukemaster Gene, I see signs of fall starting here in Pa. Leaves are just starting to dropping, and some aquatic vegetation has started to die back! Won't be long now. But I think it is going to be a short fall. Then a jump into winter! Ugh!
We rarely get to see you on the yak. Im an avid kayak fisherman paddling a Wilderness systems Ride 115X. If oyur ever in Northern MN tow the hobie along and we can paddle out
Hi Flukemaster, beautiful kayak!! I sat in one today in the show room, all I can say is wow super comfortable seat. My question is how is it in saltwater, is it stable if there is a lot of chop and or wind? Also how is its primary stability and its secondary stability? I mean if you lean to the side does it feel like it wants to flip?
Awesome video FLukemaster! I just sold my boat and I'm going to be getting a Hobie soon, so this video is excellent! I tried looking up your battery and it's just a 12v 7 amp game feeder battery?
hey fluke I'm what you would call a pretty new angler and i have a spectrum dominator boat it was inexpensive and its not the nicest boat out there and it came with a fish finder but its a lowrance and it isn't the nicest so would you suggest investing in a nice one?
What did you think about the Jackson Big Rig at ICAST 16? I'm am going to buy a Kayak, boat is gone, RIP. I want a Hobie but would love to save money and buy the Big Rig and get the Micro Pole and a couple of new Rod and Reels. Are they comparable at all in size and stability.
Lol @ bad back. That's the one thing they never told us we would receive. Love the videos btw. Do you think this would be an ok kayak for a beginner? I'm looking into getting one, but not sure if I should buy a cheapo one or save and get a nice one like this. Any advise would be much appreciated.
+nolidge1016 Personally I love my Hobie because I can fish while still moving the boat but get what you can afford and if you have a bad back make sure you get one with a seat that gets your butt higher than your feet.
Gene, I know you fish out of a Jackson now for the most part but I'm looking into the PA12 and I too have a bad back and the idea of rods being right next to you is good for me because I don't have to twist, BUT, how easy are the rods to get in and out. Thanks.
just purchased this very kayak... I'm so excited for Wednesday when I get it. what a beast this thing is! could I ask how you store it in the winter? I have a shed but should I have a tarp and railingto keep it off of the ground? great video and tight lines!
+Nionic I bought it from happy days boat centre in Ontario, Canada. it was a pro guy's kayak that he used for 6 months so it had a bunch of attachments. it was 4400 total with my new fish finder.
i wish i could afford one i have been wanting one since I been thinking about fishing and that thing is amazing hopefully one day i can afford one but its a long way from today
Looking to purchase the 12 or 14 cant decide... with the t-bone does it help balance the load in the truck with a 6.5’ bed? Don’t want to get 12 and regret not going for the 14, overall they say 14 faster more maneuverable...
I have a lowrance elite 4x hdi and I would love a how to video, what would be the difference in mine and the chirp you have? should they work overall the same?
I have a feel free kayak highly suggest them, they are sweet. But Jean any suggestions on how to catch fish in them? I've been a lot lately and have only caught 1 bass. Do you suggest a fish finder? And I've fished lakes and rivers. Just no luck. Can't find any fish. I know it's summer but there has to be a chunk out there somewhere.
Hey Gene, what size battery are you using for the graph/pole? I have been looking at getting a separate battery for those on my little boat but didn't know how much power I'd need for a full day.
Geeze dude! It must be nice! LOL.. Could you recommend a kayak that is safe and affordable for the weekend angler, but can be modified for bass fishing with the possibility of mounting a trolling motor?
Random question. Does izorline xxx in 20lb cast alright? I was wondering if I should get in 20 or 25 for t rigs in light/moderate cover on a MH rod. Thanks!
does your hrail tackle box fit up on the rails? mine doesnt. it's impossible to install on my pa 12 unless it's on the outside. the seats in the way on the inside
I would say around 5000 dollars. 3500 for kayak and 1500 for accessories. I saw one of these at a shop today and it is the premiere fishing kayak in my opinion. I'm probably going to buy one over the winter.
+FPR Outdoors I've just started looking and that is really expensive. But when you see it in person and see it side by side with other kayaks it is head and shoulders above anything I've seen. Good luck with your research!
hooah!! that would be my ideal fishing craft. maybe a little side bit for my dog would be the only thing extra I could think of. hes 200 pounds though, so might not work out too well 😂
Mike, getting a kayak weight to rating ratio is pretty easy. Just subtract 25%. Most 12 ft angling kayaks are rated for 350. Subtract the 25% = 263 lbs for you and equipment. For this Yak, just take the front hatch off and put in a pad for your dog to sit. You're all setup.
Didn't know you were a veteran, Gene. Thank you for your service.
Slick vessel and set up! Gene. I was amazed at the power and speed of the drive. The ability to stand up makes it a legit boating option.
All this time, and I never knew you were in the Army. HOOAH!!!! I'm an Army vet as well. It's rough on the back for sure, but as of now I don't have any issues. Thank you for you're service Gene.
+Ricky Creason Cool Ricky. I was glad I did it and now I'm glad I'm out.
+Flukemaster Amen to that!!
Great set up, Gene! I have a very similar set up, less the micro pole. I see questions here on why you have the PA and a boat. Great video Gene - love the detail you provide & thank you for your Military service
Damn sir didn't know you were in the army, thank you for your service! Forever respected and loved. Love your channel by the way, learning a loy
3yrs late but Thank You for your service. Flukes videos are the best
Love this and your alumacraft! Seriously my favorite setups on UA-cam. Thanks for everything gene, and keep doing your thing!
Thank you for your service. I highly highly respect you.
That is an awesome setup Gene! You must love it since you caught your PB in it!
Hobie mirage kayaks are the absolute best fishing kayaks available. Hobies are worth every penny. Nice vid as usual.
Did not know you were in the army. Thank you for your service.
Wow I had no clue you were in the army thanks you very much for you service sir!
+drive4five outdoors Thanks
Nice lookin set up, Gene! I have the Revo 13. Love the hobie mirage line!
second video ive seen from flukemaster...I really enjoy them brother! you are very informative and put some real information out there that we can use. keep up the good work. hooah!
+alejandro alonso Thanks Alejandro. All I want to do is teach people how to fish.
Gene that is a sick set up. I can't believe how far they have come with the new add on's. Any chance you will ever do a video on reel maintenance? Great video nice set up, I have the 2014 PA12 great kayaks.
Congratulantions Flukemaster, I'm fron Brazil and i like yours vídeos ao much!
Hobie should use your video to showcase their product...they certainly couldn't do it any better! thanks
nice set up Gene, Im hoping to get one soon.
awww dude thank you for that little bungy cord tip for the fins! was wondering what that was for!! also was wondering how to keep my pedals up!
Bad ass kayak man haha, lookin to get a boat but I might have to pick up one of these first!
Nice. If you ever watch Marty Zoefinger's channel he has a PA 12 with the Micro anchor. He puts one of his GoPros on the end of the anchor for a great overhead view. Looks really cool.

+Hagan Barnes Good idea Hagan
Teach them to fish you feed them for life....love that Hobie
Damn Gene.... That is HOOKED UP! Nice rig!
+Mark Polsky Thanks Mark, It fishes nice. Now I just need to find some fish that will bite in the hot weather. I can't wait till Fall.
+Flukemaster Gene, I see signs of fall starting here in Pa. Leaves are just starting to dropping, and some aquatic vegetation has started to die back! Won't be long now. But I think it is going to be a short fall. Then a jump into winter! Ugh!

Nice set up Gene I'm thinking about getting me one from the same place you did any advice on what to look for when getting one
Thanks for your service. Also, do you have issues with water coming through the scupper holes?
Digging the logo. Cool stuff.
Awesome video FLukemaster! I just sold my boat and I'm going to be getting a Hobie soon, so this video is excellent! I tried looking up your battery and it's just a 12v 7 amp game feeder battery?
I would consider it a peddle-powered boat than a kayak. I want one!
hey fluke I'm what you would call a pretty new angler and i have a spectrum dominator boat it was inexpensive and its not the nicest boat out there and it came with a fish finder but its a lowrance and it isn't the nicest so would you suggest investing in a nice one?
Very nice setup sir!!
Thanks Gene for this video and especially for your service with the United States Army to protect our freedom.
I love fishing the river. How strong are the drive blades? I have a predator mx but love the idea of hands free.
Nice PA 14 I have the exact same rig. How do you like the elite 4 chirp? How does it compare to your higher end units on you bass boat?
Nice setup Gene. Next time Im in GA will hit you up for some yak fishing!
+MagicYaker You bet
What did you think about the Jackson Big Rig at ICAST 16? I'm am going to buy a Kayak, boat is gone, RIP. I want a Hobie but would love to save money and buy the Big Rig and get the Micro Pole and a couple of new Rod and Reels. Are they comparable at all in size and stability.
That would be sweet for some of those waters that power boats aren't allowed in
I've got a few near me in Texas that don't allow power.
That's one serious kayak.
what kind of battery do you recommend. Great video.
Sweet set up sir.
Great rig, Gene!
nice presentation!.. I'm sold!!
I like your boat Gene! Oh, that's you kayak...
Lol @ bad back. That's the one thing they never told us we would receive. Love the videos btw. Do you think this would be an ok kayak for a beginner? I'm looking into getting one, but not sure if I should buy a cheapo one or save and get a nice one like this. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi Gene. What do you use to mount the GoPro on your kayak directly in front of you? Do you use the hole for sailing mast?
Gotta get some videos of you using it!😃
SWEET setup bud!
I like your rig man! Great yak Gene
Gene, I know you fish out of a Jackson now for the most part but I'm looking into the PA12 and I too have a bad back and the idea of rods being right next to you is good for me because I don't have to twist, BUT, how easy are the rods to get in and out. Thanks.
+AnglerX not too bad. I found that if I kept any more than 4 rods up front it was a struggle.
What a good light heavy action rod that can bend really far without breaking?
just purchased this very kayak... I'm so excited for Wednesday when I get it. what a beast this thing is! could I ask how you store it in the winter? I have a shed but should I have a tarp and railingto keep it off of the ground? great video and tight lines!
+Jeffrey Watkin Awesome man. I know you'll love it.
Were you buy it from and how much?
+Nionic I bought it from happy days boat centre in Ontario, Canada. it was a pro guy's kayak that he used for 6 months so it had a bunch of attachments. it was 4400 total with my new fish finder.
Nice
Excellent Job !!! I learned alot
Thank god been waiting all day!!
Now that you have had both, Which is more stable, Hobie PA 14 or Jackson Big Rig?
that is a pretty impressive machine....nice vid. Noticed your logo (hook in the shape of an F), is that new? I like it.
+Frank'O' XC Yep. That's my new logo and the shirt I'm wearing is one of my new shirts.
Do you keep your gear in the kayak while hauling it? Or do you transport your kayak and gear separately?
Please make a video on your elite 4 chirp! How you have all the settings and frequencies
Awesome video mate
i wish i could afford one i have been wanting one since I been thinking about fishing and that thing is amazing hopefully one day i can afford one but its a long way from today
I would love to pickup a Hobie, but they are outta my price range, I am currently looking at an Ascend from BPS
Looking to purchase the 12 or 14 cant decide... with the t-bone does it help balance the load in the truck with a 6.5’ bed? Don’t want to get 12 and regret not going for the 14, overall they say 14 faster more maneuverable...

And I've fished lakes and rivers. Just no luck. Can't find any fish. I know it's summer but there has to be a chunk out there somewhere.
+jay livingston You're doing better than me. I've caught one in the past six trips. Be patient. Fall is near.
+jay livingston fish early morning and late evening. I've had most luck with jigs slow on the bottom
wow that is a fishing machine! Great vid. what's the all in price on that unit???
+Roy Dallas 5 grand
Hey Gene, what size battery are you using for the graph/pole? I have been looking at getting a separate battery for those on my little boat but didn't know how much power I'd need for a full day.
excellent video and a bad ass yak! I fish from a predator mx it's nice but that hobie is sweet
Wait, what... did I hear you say I can flip my peddles to go in reverse!!!
Could you do a video on your truck? I loved this video and the one about your boat and I'm looking at getting a truck for my boat
+BassMaster Eric It's just a 2001 Toyota Tundra farm truck.
that's nice I love it . What does that yak cost
3100 base price
Nice Review, try a mini tripod, will help for stationary shots.
If you stand up in it does it wobble a lot or is it easy to stand up in
That's pretty sweet set up Gene... about how much money does a set up like that run ?
+Bass Amateur 99 A lot! Base price for one of about 3200.
Dang !
+Flukemaster $3200 can buy me a LOT of trips on the lake with the one and only Flukemaster.. LOL!
@flukemaster what battery are you using for the power pole micro and lowrance?
great video!
Geeze dude! It must be nice! LOL.. Could you recommend a kayak that is safe and affordable for the weekend angler, but can be modified for bass fishing with the possibility of mounting a trolling motor?
Ride 115 or 135
Santa Cruz Raptor (not the G2), Wilderness Systems Thresher and Ride series.
hey gean, whats your fav. type of braid?
What's your opinion on lews
I got a speed spool LFS and it's been amazing. Best $80 I've ever spent. Great reels.
+owen connelly LEWSer for life!!
Random question. Does izorline xxx in 20lb cast alright? I was wondering if I should get in 20 or 25 for t rigs in light/moderate cover on a MH rod. Thanks!
How ya liking the mirage drive
does your hrail tackle box fit up on the rails? mine doesnt. it's impossible to install on my pa 12 unless it's on the outside. the seats in the way on the inside
FINALLY! Good video as always
Just curious...all in all with everything how much money do you have in the yak? If I get one I want to outfit it the same way as yours.
I would say around 5000 dollars. 3500 for kayak and 1500 for accessories. I saw one of these at a shop today and it is the premiere fishing kayak in my opinion. I'm probably going to buy one over the winter.
Not bad...totally worth it. Will probably be a few years before I can afford it.
+FPR Outdoors I've just started looking and that is really expensive. But when you see it in person and see it side by side with other kayaks it is head and shoulders above anything I've seen. Good luck with your research!
I love all you have,
The Cadillac of Kayaks. lol
hooah!!
that would be my ideal fishing craft. maybe a little side bit for my dog would be the only thing extra I could think of. hes 200 pounds though, so might not work out too well 😂
This Kayak has a 600 lbs rating. That means you, your dog and fishing gear should be under 450lbs combined.
Wow.. Yeah we'd be good. I'm only about 160 soaking wet.
You're all setup.
does the 2016 pa 14 have a retractable rudder and skeg?
That's a sweet setup, but damn they're expensive! $3000! I'll stick with my customized Future beach trophy 144 for now.
Love the video!
That kyack socks water gets in it thru the drive
Are you ever going to vlog
love love love!!
