I have been through 3 Fitbits. Never again. Planned obsolescence is a thing with Fitbits. The only use case where I would ever buy another Fitbit is if I was training for the Sleep Olympics 😂
Great video. I also have a Polar H10 I tested my Sense 2 against, and I can confirm your results re the gross inaccuracy of the Sense 2 unless you are motionless. What's really disappointing is that plain HR should not be hard to capture from just a single sampling location unlike HRV which requires multiple sampling locations. So if plain HR is so inaccurate, I can only expect the other measurements (except O2 saturation) are pure fiction. Put my return in the mail 2 days ago. I know the inner workings of Google well, and there will never be a firmware update that adds the missing but advertised features as long as the new Pixel Watch exists.
Thanks for the review! I bought the Sense 2 recently, mostly because Fitbit trackers have had pretty good sleep tracking in your other reviews. I think Google can significantly improve the sleep tracking with an algorithm update for the Sense 2, and I hope they do if they watch your review. It's good to see that the Sense 2 is comparable with Whoop 3 and 4, and I've stopped using both Whoop 3 and 4 (I upgraded to Whoop 4 when it was new, but ditched it recently when I switched to Sense 2, as Whoop is pretty useless for anything other than sleep tracking, and since Sense 2 has about equally good sleep tracking as the Whoop 4, I see no reason to pay $30 per month when I get more and better data with the Sense 2). I hope the Sense 3 gets much better sleep tracking, and really, the Sense 2 could perform equally to the Apple watches with a firmware update. I also use the Garmin fenix 7X Sapphire Solar, and now I know better what I should sync to Google Fit between the two. Keep up the good work man!
Thanks for this. I specifically went for the Sense 2 vs the Pixel watch due to battery time. 😊I do find the EDA is fairly accurate at noting my stress/frustration times so would love to see at least an overview on this piece at some point in the future as it was the main reason I upgraded to the Sense 2 vs going with the Charge 5. As an android user- the two ecosystems that are robust would be Fitbit and Garmin. And while I would be fine for either of those- it seems that each has issues with various aspects for accuracy.
Interesting and I agree but I thought I'd add my findings .. I have Versa 2, though have had a brace of older Fitbits over time as well as a Garmin Forerunner now. Also Apple Watch SE (original) .. I know .. a bit of a tart! From my personal experience and needs I find: Fitbit is great / best for general sleep and general wellness and the app is great though I refuse to pay for premium. Apple: WTF .. why 3 apps dudes - watch app then health app then fitness app .. come on .. this is just a mess? For fitness tracking (for me it's walking, running and some pool swimming) it's OK and better than Fitbit. For sleep .. come on .. tell the watch your sleep times? Really? Yeah the absolute accuracy for heart is great but it is general consistence of readings which for me is more important - to track progress though others may have a different view here. Great display and integrates very well with iPhone but laughable battery even with the new low power mode. Garmin: Poor display, but outdoors it is exceptional the post activity fitness tracking and suggestions for recovery etc is great. Excellent battery - we are talking more than a week with daily exercise GPS tracking and worn at night. Really poor sleep tracking though, but you don't have to tell it when you are about to sleep so there is that I guess. Finally the app is great and no pay wall. Fitbit & Garmin apps let you use you stuff on iOS & Android and swap over and still retain all your data. Apple? Well, it's Apple but I think you can export stuff to Strava??? So I guess this all comes down to what is important to you. For me right now though what is important is my coffee!
Can you do a review of a selection of blood pressure monitors? I know that it's not the typical heart rate tests that you usually do. But with over 200 different models on Geizhals and me not having any clue which one is good I would love if you could venture to testing blood pressure monitors as well.
Great video, as always. I had been a dedicated Fitbit user since the Charge4, along with subsequent Charge 5, and Versa 3. I did try the Sense 2 for 1 month before returning it for a refund. The accuracy was just so poor, and the long battery life did not balance that out enough for me to keep it. I moved on to the Apple Watch SE 2022 and am very happy both with the accuracy, the sleep tracking and the exercise tracking. The 2 latter things are much improved with Apple's newest updates. I wouldn't have known to try this switch to a new brand without your channel, so thank you!
I have also been using fitbit, namely charge 2, for a long time, and wanted to replace it with charge 5 or one of the fitbit watches. But I am also leaning towards Apple Watch SE. Fitbit used to have the best sleep tracking but it appears to have been surpassed by apple watches. So the only advantages of fitbit are longer battery life and of course price, but with the obscene subscription model this goes out the window. Getting ready for Apple Watch SE and happy to see how good it performs in Rob's tests. Yes it is pricey but it has excellent accuracy in all departments (heart rate, steps, sleep) and by far the best iPhone integration.
How is the app on apple, is it just this apple health? I feel that Fitbit have a very good overall app for suggestions and calculating things together to measure data and give you tips on how to improve. Does apple watch have any of that?
@@xPowerShotx Not really. Apple excels in providing accurate data, which I like. But they do not offer much in the way of suggestions or interpretations. Apple Watches accept a bazillion third party apps such as Workoutdoors, Athlytic, and Heartwatch , etc) which try to fill that gap. But it’s irritating to pay extra for third party apps when Apple could offer interpretation themselves. I still do not regret my choice.
Hi Rob, Thanks for the detailed review. Are you planning a full scientific review of the new polar ignite 3? Maybe this is an alternative to Fitbit....
I bought the Sense 2 an now on day 10 on one charge an still have 20% more battery , im impressed with the battery probably get 12 days on one charge. I understand Apple an Samsung you have to charge everyday
Great video - very impressive and useful tests. What about resting heart rate and heart rate during sleep? I am getting rather low readings, and I'm beginning to question just how accurate the Sense 2 is in this respect, especially after seeing that it overall seems to give lower readings during exercise as per your video. Did you get any data for this during the sleep stage tests?
I had the same thing with the Sense 1, it is what drove me to the Apple Watch after being a Fitbit user for like a decade! - it was showing shockingly inaccurate results and the battery life was barely 2 days.
Genuinely same. With the Pixel Watch & Sense 2 being so inaccurate, and after being with Fitbit for 8 years, I switched to all-in on Apple Watch (& iPhone from Android). I was really hoping either Galaxy Watch 5 or Pixel Watch would finally compete against AW, but nope.
@@qwertimus It depends on what you want. It's pretty good if you want sleep tracking I have the inspire 2 which Rob is really positive about 2 weeks of battery life and great sleep tracking and the pixel watch isn't "really bad" it has pretty good heart rate tracking. It's just the price point and fitbit subscription but if that's not good enough I'm sure we could pair a polar h10 chest strap to it. A lot of us get caught up in thinking just because one thing is better the other is bad. But for an all in one tracker and smart watch Apple watch is great. How are you enjoying the apple ecosystem? I'm mainly an Android guy but I'm curious to know because I might give it a try.
@@dragonemp727 True. I always bought Fitbit because I hated the Apple Watch battery life, still do. But the Sense 1 battery was 2 days with the always on display, Apple Watch was 1.5 days but for a literally night and day experience, it's like going from a rusty old bicycle into a Lamborghini, so that was a no brainer. With this said, that's the Sense, the Fitbit Inspire 2 is still a great device with 2 weeks battery, if only it was more accurate.
Enjoying the detailed work. Regarding all charts and graphs it would be cool to be able to look them all over in 1 place. As I have watched many hours of video and still cannot decide.
Owning one, I hope the review is postive 😅 Thx anyway for your excellent work. Always a pleasure to watch your videos. You have potential to expand the channel btw
Thanks for the video, Rob! I was wondering if you have ever taught about testing Garmin or Suunto watches! Kind regards and I'm looking forward seeing the next video😋
Thank you for this video! My Charge 4 recently broke, so i purchased a Sense 2 to replace it. Since I am a Peloton App user and my fitbit charge 4 would not connect to the fitbit app, i previously purchased a Scosche 24 so that i would generate a "strive score " on the Peloton app. I noted that the charge 4 (worn on my wrist) and the Scosche 24 (worn on opposite arm, above elbow) always generated same/close heart rate data. However, today when i used my sense 2 simultaneously with the Scosche, the Sense 2 was far off (on the low side).
I can concur with the sense 2 showing too low a hr when not at rest. I wish I had known that info when I ordered it from Fitbit (late October). My versa 2 (got it Nov 2020) was usually spot on with my hr and was accurate with high hr. I wanted the ecg option for more heart health features, which is why I thought I was upgrading to the sense 2. 😢 I wanted to have better hr tracking for PSVT episodes. I guess I should have gotten the charge 5 instead. But didn't want to downsize in screen size from the versa 2. 🤦♀️
I have a charge 5 and I've been looking to replace it but none of the offerings from Google or Fitbit don't seem like enough of an upgrade over the charge 5. Guess I can save that money for next year
Now it makes "sense" why a $300 Sense 2 has come down to $200 so quickly. Heart rate accuracy on the first test is R=0.87...while a $40 Mi Band 7 gets R=0.92...and its battery lasts for 7-10 days! The battery life on the new Pixel Watch is measured in hours!
I would like the Apple watch, but charging every night is not ideal. Not to mention, a lithium battery's life span is about 700-800 charges, so the watch would need a new battery after only 2 years. Also, how can you use the watch for sleep tracking if the watch is on the charger ?

When heart rate is sketchy, I always under if the watch can accept a heart rate belt. I have long felt that Garmins' secret strength is their ability to use sensor of so many types, like belts, cadence sensors, and so on. Can fitbits do any of this?
Hello very nice video. When you are searching for the best watch, Android, to monitoring health, cardiac frequency, non regular beat, ECG and so on which is your suggestion? Many thanks
Thank you for the review, Rob. I have been using the Sense 2 for about 10 days and I find the heart rate tracking to be subpar as well. I don't know if I should wait and hope they release some software fix, or just return the watch.
Hi Rob, I have some heart problems and would really appreciate your help with a recommendation. I have seen many or your excellent videos! Would you please give me your top recommendation for an Android watch that has excellent heart monitor function PLUS has at least very good ECG function? This would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you very much in advance!
Hi, will you be doing a review of the Amazfit band 7 ? how is the HR & sleep tracking? Also should I wait for FItbit Charge 6 or it will take time for launch & settle for the Fitbit charge
I've had the Charge 3 & 4 but I've been looking to upgrade between the Sense 2 or SE2. This video seems to be confirming all the bad reviews of the Sense 2. I wish Fitbit didn't sell out to Google
Thanks, Rob. Great review, this watch is not for me. I hope you get to test soon the Huawei Watch D. If it really works I won't mind that's ugly, because a blood pressure monitor is a game changer in this format. BTW, I find your work so interesting since I'm doing a master's in Data Analysis, and everything I see in class you're doing it, just better. Thanks again.
Hoping the Inspire 3 review (which you mentioned you were working on) will be coming out soon; thinking of picking one up on Black Friday but waiting to check your review first. Thanks for all the good work!
Amazing statistical analysis Of measurements. Good work and very informative. The only question I still have is how close Polar (your golden standards) is to the lab measurements (reality).
Hey Rob, do you think the Fitbit you tested could be a defective item? It's hard for me to believe that the heart rate tracking is so poor. Would be great if you can test with another Fitbit sense 2 or get data from another user to confirm the results!
No it's not. I also have a Polar H10 and the sense 2 accuracy is as bad as his testing indicates. He essentially confirmed what I was seeing. The more vigorous the exercise, the greater the deviation of the sense 2 from reality. I've already returned mine.
@@steveweinberg462 That forum is heavily censored by the mods in a sad attempt to make the Sense2 seem like an accurate fitness tracker and 'smart' watch. The sad part is that virtually every new post is either an obvious shill or an actual complaint about missing or inaccurate apps causing the Sense2 to seem horrible regardless. I deleted my account after I shared the observation that, given the $300 many people were paying for a fitness company's "flagship product" with such a high rate of missing or grossly inaccurate features, Google/Fitbit could be at risk of a class action suit for fraud in dumping excessive inventory of a defective product - which was promptly deleted. A general search of Sense2 reviews now brings up many shills that make the $300 list price seem like a bargain.
Hey rob! Are you going to do a review on the versa4? I'm looking to buy a smartwatch on Black Friday (although in my country is more like a Black Frauday)
I'm thinking to get a tracker if there a good black Friday deal. Would you say I can better go for the charge 5 or is the huwaei fit 2 better ? Or the sense 1 or 2? Would greatly appreciate your input as you have a better idea which is the better option to go for. Or another? I don't have an apple phone tho, so an apple watch is not possible
This makes me wonder how Fitbit themselves test their own devices for accuracy. Or do they basically just hope nobody finds out just how inaccurate their devices are. So many years gone by for Fitbit to improve and apple speeds past Fitbit easily and Fitbit has nothing to show for it.
@@george6252 yeap I have been using sense 1 for 5 months and it's good for speed tracking but has issue with step counting because of some freezes I'm changing it to Garmin. I have also discovered that I do not like sleeping in a watch :)
I'm really struggling on what fitness watch to get. I have used fitbit for over 10 years but annouyed at the inaccuracy of the heart rate. I am on android so apple watches are out but I also want a good all rounder that will pair with the polar chest strap. So stuck
Unfortunately, Fitbit stopped making progress from Versa and Sense point of view after Versa 2, to be polite. Missing functionality, no 3rd party apps and tiles changed to a list, and over-sensitive setup of time or options on the watch, and you can't turn off the screen witha button anymore. Not to mention other issues with, for example, setting up Fitbit/Google Pay. I bought Sense 2. It's a half-product and I wouldn't have it for free! It's so rubbish. If only I could have it with Versa 2 software, that would make it a great watch again. It doesn't feel like Fitbit do care anymore. If it doesn't change, Versa 2 is my last Fitbit product after 9 years of being a loyal user.
Remember that you were a fitbit user not a google user. I am moving my entire family away from google since there is no more fitbit that we used to know.
Does Fitbit free app (not premium) show deep, rem, light sleep stages and hours , how long you sleep? Or you need to pay for premium for this information?
I have a sense 1 and my heart beat can be beating at 180bpm and the fitbit says 105bpm it doesn't want to pick up my heart beat sometimes after while it starts picking up my heart, and starts being more accurate. It seems like software problem to me.

Hello very nice video. When you are searching for the best watch, Android, to monitoring health, cardiac frequency, non regular beat, ECG and so on which is your suggestion? Many thanks
My question when you counted the steps did you go to the website and input your stride length?
Thank you for the review, Rob. I have been using the Sense 2 for about 10 days and I find the heart rate tracking to be subpar as well. I don't know if I should wait and hope they release some software fix, or just return the watch.
What did you end up doing? I've had the Charge 3 & 4 but I'm looking at the Sense 2 or SE2
Thanks for the review ! Is Fitbit versa 3 / Fitbit sense 2 better than amazfit GTR 4?
where would the Garmin 955 be on the the list?
Hi, will you be doing a review of the Amazfit band 7 ? how is the HR & sleep tracking? Also should I wait for FItbit Charge 6 or it will take time for launch & settle for the Fitbit charge
why why fitbit don't introduced airplane mode to turn off bluetooth?
My sense 2 detects waaay too high of a heart rate. itll say im at peak for like 20 min
how about amazfit gts 4 mini
How do you get the Sense 2 to show your sleep stages like in the thumbnail of this video? Thank you.
Would IT be correct to assume, that also the resting Heartrate wont be acurate or are that two completely incomparable Things?
Can you test if wearing wrist based sensors perform better or worse: on the underside of the wrist, higher and lower on the forearm?
couldnt you use spo2 measurements to estimate vo2max?
I've had the Charge 3 & 4 but I've been looking to upgrade between the Sense 2 or SE2. This video seems to be confirming all the bad reviews of the Sense 2. I wish Fitbit didn't sell out to Google
which watch has the most accurate heart rate accuracy? of all of them?
Seems that the charge 5 is more accurate than this in HR readings…and is a 2 year fitness tracker…
Have you done a text of multiple H10s to see how they correlate? I actually just saw this about 24 hours after getting my new Sense 2...
Hey Rob, you said apple watches to iphone and huawei for android but how will work an apple watch on an android device?
Thanks, Rob. Great review, this watch is not for me. I hope you get to test soon the Huawei Watch D. If it really works I won't mind that's ugly, because a blood pressure monitor is a game changer in this format. BTW, I find your work so interesting since I'm doing a master's in Data Analysis, and everything I see in class you're doing it, just better. Thanks again.
I literally bought this watch an hour ago. Looks like it's going to be returned. Thank you for the data
Hoping the Inspire 3 review (which you mentioned you were working on) will be coming out soon; thinking of picking one up on Black Friday but waiting to check your review first. Thanks for all the good work!
Great as always
Would you please review Fitbit inspire 3 sleep tracking compared to inspire 2 ?
Thank you 👍👍👍
Fantastic review! Would you recommend the Sense 2 or the Charge 5
They are both great
Amazing statistical analysis Of measurements. Good work and very informative. The only question I still have is how close Polar (your golden standards) is to the lab measurements (reality).
Suggestion: Kindly review the new fitbit inspire 3 and compare it to the old model thank you!
Hey Rob, do you think the Fitbit you tested could be a defective item? It's hard for me to believe that the heart rate tracking is so poor. Would be great if you can test with another Fitbit sense 2 or get data from another user to confirm the results!
We'll find out when he tests the latest Versa 4...
No it's not. I also have a Polar H10 and the sense 2 accuracy is as bad as his testing indicates. He essentially confirmed what I was seeing. The more vigorous the exercise, the greater the deviation of the sense 2 from reality. I've already returned mine.
Based upon some now deleted threads on the Fitbit forum this is typical.
@@steveweinberg462 I bet this is one reason why they so quickly dropped the price from $300 to $200
@@steveweinberg462 That forum is heavily censored by the mods in a sad attempt to make the Sense2 seem like an accurate fitness tracker and 'smart' watch.
Thanks for the review! Much appreciated.
can fitbit track naps?
bro.. that's some serious testing. great work.
Could you review the Amazfit GTS/R 4 and see if they have improved on their supremely inaccurate tracking? It's been a while since they launched.
Awesome review. Please make review for Amazfir GTR 4 and Huawei Watch GT 3 SE
Awesome review Rob! I feel the Sense 2 is intentionally performing badly in order to promote the Pixel Watch.
Am I missing something here ! Google acquired Fitbit in January 2021.
Mmm not quite sure about the performance of the Sense 2. I’ll wait for other reviews to get my first fitness tracker
Hi Rob, can you perform a scientific review of Coros Pace 2?
very reliable channel and tests!! thanks!! when are you going to review the new Amazfit GTR 4?? 🙏
Can you add Sequent watches to your data and videos please!
Really interested to see how they fair!
you deserve big like for this great review
So looks that the Sense 1 is better then Sense 2. Charge 5 looks like best Fitbit tracking device, right?
wrong, numerous bugs like screen freeze and constantly looses connectivity.
Mine is boxed and put away. Of the Charge series I prefer Charge 4.
So stuck
Garmin venu 3? Or wait till october and get newest fitbit
Great as always. Would you review the xiaomi band 7 pro?
I have been wearing Fitbit for 10 years.
Have you tried a Samsung smart watch?
@@littlevoice_11 my wife has a samsung she switched from Fitbit to Samsung
Does Fitbit free app (not premium) show deep, rem, light sleep stages and hours , how long you sleep? Or you need to pay for premium for this information?
Yes the free app shows the sleep stages. However, they’re less accurate than the Apple Watch.
They do show the stages. Hours of sleep are included as well of course.
My sense 2 keeps coming up with the logo every minute some weird firmware upgrades
Nice sleep stage results. How many nights were tested?
Hi! I mention it in the video. I am on a short trip at the moment, so I can't check the data, but I think it was 10 or more nights
@@TheQuantifiedScientist no problem. I was sure you did, I just missed it.
Please test Amazfit GTR 4!
Anyone that can suggest what tracker to buy? Good Step tracking, sleep, heart rate etc. I don't own an apple phone.
Hi, will you test amazfit gts 4 / gtr4? Thx so much.
When test Huawei watch D ?
I have a sense 1 and my heart beat can be beating at 180bpm and the fitbit says 105bpm it doesn't want to pick up my heart beat sometimes after while it starts picking up my heart, and starts being more accurate. It seems like software problem to me.
Such good reviews. Happy to click the affiliate links. :-)
Hi rob, I watched this video from first point to final point without skipping haha. Your video is always best and amazing with all testing. And so much thank you for this video. I am happy your youtube channel is increasing everyday. and Keep going! Greeting from South Korea.
Would be interestig if tracking values improve After all the Updates until Today. They Wrote they implementiert ML Technology to improve Heartratetracking. Would Interesting to see What it brings
