your Library method of Library, Events etc has revolutionised my editing and organisation. you are a life saver just by giving me soo much time back. Thank you Happy New Year @FinalCutBro
Dylan, thanks for a great tutorial. After using iMovie for years, then switching to Adobe Premiere Elements when I got a PC; and now back to a new Mac in order to use FCP, your tutorials are going to be a life/time saver. The transition back to Mac editing should be much smoother than trying to use APE. In fact, my old iMovie skills should make the process a whole lot easier. Thanks Again!!!
Great video man. I learn new things every time I watch your videos. What do you use for your screen recordings? They’re always so clean and the zooms in are super smooth. Love it man. Keep up the great work. You’re an inspiration to creators like me. ❤
Appreciate you brotha! I just started using Screen Studio. It smooths out mouse movements which is really nice. For most of the time, I’ve been using QuickTime’s screen recorder though. Screen Studio does do zooming in which is nice. But I find that when it zooms, it locks in on the mouse, and can make the video more chaotic. So I just use my Pro Zooms plugin for FCP! I have an affiliate link to Screen Studio in the description if you want to check it out. Also, shoot me an email at Dylan@thefinalcutbro.com, and I can set you up as an affiliate for any of my plugins if you ever feel like sharing them on your channel!
@@TheFinalCutBro sweet. Thanks man. I’ll definitely hit you up for that affiliate link and will share your plugins on my channel. I’m gonna grab your pro zooms plugin as well. I appreciate the tips and guidance. Thanks for all the amazing content and FCP resources. You’re a rock star. ⭐️
Really great beginners guide, Dylan! Clear and concise. I know pretty much everything you covered in this guide, I still found it very interesting to watch!
Thank you so much!!! Especially appreciate your tempo, great teaching style and use of the language to highlight the most important things. will come back to it once I start working on my project!
Hey Dylan HNY to you and yours. Great beginner video and although I've been using Final Cut Pro for over a year now I picked up some great tips. Kudos!! Question: When covering "Effects' I see you have a ⭐Favs. I can't seem to find anywhere how to create a Favorites folder for my preferred effects and transitions. How do you enable this? Thx and keep up the excellent work.
great video! Thanks for sharing! May I please ask if you would advise to work with an external SSD since one project can quickly take up a lot of storage...
Love all your Final Cut Pro videos. Your explanations and guidance are like no other. thank you for all that you do. I do have one question, I have to use handbrake in order to upload videos that I edit to a website for my job. Do you know or have a better way of compressing videos? I really hate having to get handbrake every couple of days because it always dissapears from my computer. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the great video! I don’t know if you use compressor at all, but wonder if you’ve tried it since upgrading to version 11. Using the “send to compressor>batch” in FCP I can’t get anything to work - everything fails at 2:19.
This is very informative. I have a clip that I want to edit, but I keep getting a beach ball. Could you cover how to get rid of that or how and when to use optimize and or Proxy selections when importing media? Or any other help with this.
Thanks for the video. You did great job. I have one question. If you drag and drop your media in to a Final Cut, do the media stay in place (in Finder) or are the media copied to the library? Which means that you have much less space on your hard drive?
That’s depending on your import settings. If you go to the import window (CMD + I) and look in the top right corner, you’ll see the option to choose between media being copied on import or leaving files in place. I recommend leave files in place, as it saves you an enormous amount of storage. But you have to be good with file management, otherwise your video clips can easily go offline. Hope that helps!
Hi Dylan. Thanks again for your videos! I’m posting this question here that’s not really related to this specific video. But I’m curious the best way to handle this. Thought I would ask a pro! There are some movies that I like, but there might be a questionable Thing pop up on the screen that we don’t want our kids to see. Supposing you wanted to edit an actual movie that you already have a digital copy of, would you import the entire movie into Final Cut, make your edit, and then re-export a new file? One of our favorite movies is clean, but in one scene, one of the characters has a very inappropriate poster on his wall. So I was going to swap it out with one of our wedding pictures. Simple to do, but bringing an entire movie Into Final Cut is a huge file. Thoughts?
Hey Jim! Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing you’ll just have to brute force. If you want the whole file to be together, you’ll need to bring the entire movie into FCP. To save on storage, jump into your import window (CMD + I) then in the top right corner, make sure “leave files in place” is checked. When you export the file, I’d recommend either h.264, or if you want a way smaller file size, select “Apple devices” and then “computer”. That should make the file much more manageable. Hope that helps!
Great video. Great for beginners, but I find it's also a good refresher, as I haven't done any serious video editing in quite a while. And I learned a few new things! Thank you for not adding annoying background music! It is much easier to comprehend narration that way. The audio processing in the brain doesn't have to struggle with removing the "music" and concentrate on the narration. Thanks! The pronunciation of Gaussian is GOW-see-in. It is another name for the Bell Curve. It was named after the greatest mathematician of them all, Carl Friedrich Gauss. It is used in statistics for scientific data. And in this case, technology. That's GOW as in COW. I guess the Final Cut developers use the equation for the Gaussian in the Gaussian Blur effect you mentioned. I'll post again about that if I find out more. Thanks again for your great videos! Thanks! (^_^)
Haha yes I just learned not too long ago that it’s pronounced that way. But it’s one of those things that I’ve heard the other way for 20 years of editing, and so it’s locked in forever in my mind as gawshun and probably will never change no matter how hard I try 😂 Appreciate you watching!!
Hello Dylan, I hope you are doing great ! I have one enourmous bug that I can not resolve. I am on 10.8.1 and when I use transformer tools like "scale from 100% to 120% changing positions" the images of fcpx lags/stops so I had to each time reboot my fcpx to get restarted. I tried on fcpx 11 and rebooted my entire Mac in vain. So now, I try not to use transformer tool because it bugs... Do you have same problem/know solutions ? I reported to fcpx team. Thank you very much for your reply, Friendly, Bill
Quick question - for some reason when adding a title to my timeline I am not seeing the same option to add/change fonts. My font choices are limited and under a tab with the lines. The font choices are listed under 2D styles and 3D styles and there are no options to change the title on the movie reel tab to the right of the lines tab. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows how to help!
Happy new year! Hope this video can jump start your editing journey in Final Cut Pro 🎉

Do you have a full tutorial that I can follow along with including files? Your teaching style is perfect for an old guy like me.
Thanks for this tutorial. I also want the apple motion tutorial for beginners and how to use it with final cut pro.

I still think it’s bananas that adjustment layers are not in Final Cut by default. Applying the same effect to every clip individually is ridiculous.
