    Thankyou so much. Family lost the keys but now we can use the car again :) Had to turn the center bar inside the socket to get it to line up with the lock to insert, but not prob other than playing with the drill angle a bit. I used the a bit the same size as the pin on the new lock.

    You will have to replace the lock cylinder. I have no idea if there is a way to convert it to an auto start and I'm not sure you would want to because it would make your car easier to steal.

  • @shadako2
    @shadako2 4 роки тому

    may want to look up auto jigglers, and "jiggle" the lock before drilling out.

    Great Video. What size drill bit (s) did you use ? How do you measure the correct depth ?

    • @torya400
      @torya400 6 років тому

      Paul Patt 5/32 but could probably use 1/4. You'll know how far to go when the ignition slides out. I wasn't worried about damaging the ignition since it was already not working.

  • @steveduncan489

    If the proper key wont turn, once you gain access to the pin try tapping it inward while turning the key forward. You might get lucky with one more turn . Try this trick prior to drilling. Good luck.

    Ok.thx 4video.however since i am not car mechanically inclined. Can someone share how much (generally speaking) this would cost to have done by mechanic?

    • @torya400
      @torya400 4 роки тому

      It took me roughly 30 minutes. Generally, mechanics get paid for a minimum of one hour. Depending on where you live and the quality of you mechanic you are going to see you will pay $60 - $150 per hour. The part was about $40 with tax/shipping from RockAuto.(www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1514190&cc=1767&jsn=889)

      you could get it to start like that with a screwdriver that being you took the ignition lock out but its so easy to steal after that

    • @torya400
      @torya400 6 років тому

      Seven Pounds I suppose you could, but I wouldn't leave it without a cylinder because it can be easily started with needle nose pliers or a screwdriver.

      You use a screw to replace the pin that was drilled. Preferably a small drywall screw

    • @dazzlecarter2569
      @dazzlecarter2569 7 років тому

      Prairie Bilton we want to know how do we put the new cylinder in with no key??? the wheel is in locked mode but installation requires acc mode.

    • @celtekrider2
      @celtekrider2 7 років тому

      Very carfully use a screwdriver to turn the igntion inside the hole it came out of. If you look at your ignition you will notice a brass pin that has a spring its about 3 inches long, that is how the ignition steering lock free's up. Im bad at explaining things but i hope it makes sense to you ;)

    • @karlrucker8058
      @karlrucker8058 7 років тому

      hey guys i figured it out. grab a pair of needle nose plyers, and grab the brass piece where the back of the ignition cylinder locks in place and simply turn it clockwise like your trying to start the car or move it to ACC. if its still not budging trying turning the steering wheel left or right and turning the piece at the same time. after a few wiggles it should work and youll here a click that lets you know its in accessory. double check by reconnecting your battery to see if radio is on. 🙌🙌

    Does this unlock the steering wheel?

    • @torya400

      Thomas Zarate Yes. Once the cylinder is removed the steering wheel will unlock.
