- Sometimes Hand therapists get injured too! In this video, Michelle show you how to apply finger bandages by yourself. She was bit by her own puppy less than 24 hours ago. She will share what her finger wound looks like now by removing her own finger dressings. Then she will demonstrate how to reapply finger bandages on her own injured finger.
The most common problem with finger dressings is that they are too bulky. The bigger the dressing bandages the more likely it will fall off your injured finger. Not to mention a thicker dressing is uncomfortable, can rub against your other fingers, and reduce air flow to your finger wound. This can lead slower wound healing!
Always follow your doctor's advice on wound management. This video is for educational and demonstration purposes. See disclaimer below.

Could you help me with this problem please?
I need to bandage a deep cut on my fingertip - right at the end. The PA used gauze and stretch wrap. I'd like it to apply a little pressure on the fingertip to help hold it closed. What do you suggest?
It would’ve been great if you would’ve provided a timestamp so that people who don’t wanna see the wound could skip to that point so we can avoid it. I will look for another video. Thank you and I wish you the best with your puppy.
Literally watched as I was re bandaging my finger. Thank you for such a helpful guide
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video. I sliced my finger open cutting a bagel lol thank you so much.
Ouch! Hope it heals quickly!
That is exactly how I sliced my finger yesterday and why I’m now watching this video!!
How many days does it take to heal the wound according to you?
Thanks so much for this in depth video. Why did you keep your ring on though?
I kept my ring on because if I would have taken it off I would have pulled all the skin off with it.😬 I was keeping an eye on my swelling too and luckily it never got too bad.
A dog bit my finger a couple of days ago. lol. This video has the perfect title.
😣 Hope it heals fast!
Can you give a recommendation book about dressing wound?
Great video. I love using the surgitube in my clinic as well. I tend to have some difficulty when wrapping or maintaining coverage in between fingers. Any tips or tricks for wounds in the webspaces?
Web space wounds can be tricky but I prefer 2 inch gauze for those and wrap separately between the web spaces then wrap first, then around the hand then around the thumb. It will migrate if you don't. Hard to explain. I may have to make a video!

Can you make a video for the tip of your finger my doctor gave me a sponge and gauze for the tip of my finger and idk how to apply it with one hand with out my finger just gushing with blood lol
Hey,sorry to annoy u.i just wanted to ask that my right hands pinky finger tip is like bent or not straight, can u make a video of the sollution
The most proximal wound, that deep V shape... was that caused by the dog sinking their teeth in and then yanking back (or alternatively, you pulling your hand away in response to the bite)? It clovers a lot more area than the other wounds.
As a fumbling layperson, I find that I don't need to intentionally give my skin time to breathe. It takes me so long to get a new dressing on, that the 10-15 minutes of naked time is automatic. So that's one of the benefits of being me.
How often should I change the dressing ? For my 3 year old daughter..
Did you watch this? She answered it
What happens if there is sticking from the gauge
Did you watch this video?! She said to soak it
Watching this beached my sun Conure bit my left insect finger multiple times so I have multiple bites on the same finger.

Sorry I don’t specialize in the knee.
I did not recognize the band wrap around your finger and that gave me the optical illusion that your finger was ripped off 😨.
I broke my uncle's fingers... So now i need to learn this to help him. It was by accident.

Hi. You might want to take off that ring on your injured finger? A potential source of contamination and also it would come in the way of fluid drainage and risk of swelling
What if the dressing is really fused into the wound? Is it best to do whatever possible to remove fused dressing, or just continue with wound care?
I had a fingertip injury from a mandolin, so bleeding was very heavy. I only left the dressing on for a few hours until I saw that the bleeding was under control but the dressing was already very fused and moving it made the excessive (but normal for that type of injury) bleeding return. It was also very painful. So...I left it, cutting away all the dressing I could before rewrapping the digit in fresh dressing until the bleeding stopped again.
I've tried soaking, but it isn't budging.
Yes, sometimes it is necessary to leave the dressing on until your body can close the incision more, then soaking to remove after a day or so. However having a moist barrier such as Xeroform can prevent that.
Sounds like you definitely should have gone to the Emergency Department-how did it heal?
my ring finger was cut
This topic should take less than 5 minutes 😊
