    I'd say rolling shutter or motion capture performance is another very important aspect of any camera. And the URSA Mini Pro 12K has virtually no rolling shutter in 8K mode. That's huge in my opinion.

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  11 місяців тому

      My apologies for the late reply, but you are absolutely correct. I don't think Iv've ever shot 12k on this camera for paid work. Its always 8k.

    I can't decide between the G2 and the 12k. I'm tempted to go with the 12k but I don't want to shoot all the time in 8k, and even less in 12k, I wish it was a 6k sensor...I also saw that in 8k there is less dynamic range than in 12k and even less in 4k. And with the G2, if we select gen5 in post (DaVinci), does the colors are the same than the 12k?

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  24 дні тому

      Yo! Thank you for the comment. The dynamic range doesn't change with less resolution on the UMP 12K. The thing that does change is the rolling shutter. It gets better the lower the resolution. With the G2, if changed to Gen5, you get a similar profile, but the colors will never be as good as on the 12K due to the different sensors. The G2 is still a fantastic camera. I recently rented 2 of them for a pilot for Adult Swim. Now, choosing between the two cams, I was presented that choice when my G1 died on me late 2021. The 12K was out for year and the G2 for 2 years. I went 12K to future proof myself. Its a tough decision, as both cameras are amazing, but different.

    So it’s possible to use lenses designed for super16 format and get 6k or 4k resolution from that super16 sensor size/crop? Depending on the sharpness/resolution specs of the lenses of course

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  Рік тому

      Sped Slojp that is correct. Back when I had an UMP G1, I shot Super 16 2k ProRes 444 a lot for narrative work. The affordability of renting solid S16 glass was great and here in LA, there were a lot of lens options. I have yet to do that on this 12k camera.

    thank u man. the only advantage of the 4.6k is the greater dynamic range. Really strange that on the 12 it is slightly lower. But on 12k is there a very high crop when shooting in 8 6 or 4k? I wanted to understand how come they have the same price. some rip off in 12 there must be XD

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  2 роки тому

      Hey Deca_ph! On paper, the advantage is DR, but I do think its really close. The crop discussion is interesting with the 12k. There is no crop when shooting 12k, 8k, and 4k, it scales down the S35 sensor. Now, there is Super 16 modes in 6K (the only mode for that resolution) and in 4k (you have the option to shoot full S35 or Super 16). So that will crop in.
      The 12k was originally $10,000 US when released. However since it is BRAW ONLY, I do believe that was a reason it didn’t sell well. I am super happy with my 12k and haven’t been limited with it at all. The color is truly beautiful.

    I know the Blackmagic Ursa min pro G2 has a bad fixed pattern noise problem when it’s recording in low light settings and I mean it has to be very dark, you might see horizontal lines in the sensor.
    My question is, is there an improvement in the 12K sensor where FPN doesn’t appear as much as it used to compared to 4.6K G2 in very low light maybe pushing around 1600 iso, 3200 is extremely visible.

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  2 роки тому

      Hey Wonder Circle Pictures! Thanks for commenting. I do think most G2 sensors were improved in low light settings, you are correct that you’ll see FPN or like symptoms beyond 1600 ISO. The unit in this video I wouldn’t use past 1250, whereas my G1 I would constantly shoot 1600.
      As for the 12k, I haven’t used it in settings were I would need to go past 800 ISO. There IS an improvement in this sensor though, and they just released a firmware update (7.7) that improves shadow detail. That’s a great idea for a video actually. I just might shoot something entirely at 2500 just to see and I will post the results! Thanks for the idea!

    Hi chris, a bit late to the show but woud you recommend the Ursa 4.6k g2 for live streaming recording? We want to record in low light environment (clubs) and then broadcast to our App. Thx

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  Рік тому

      Hey! Thanks for commenting. It really depends. I'd say go with the UMP Broadcast G2 as its the Pocket 6k sensor in an Ursa Mini body. Plus you get more friendly streaming options, multiple recording codecs, and dual native ISO at 400 & 3200. And, with changing the lens mount, you can then use that camera in a variety of settings (broadcast, narrative, music videos, etc). Hope that helps!

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  11 місяців тому +1

      Yo Dylan! Honestly, I don't shoot 12k often. I've only done it a handful of times for specific shots. Also, I don't use SSDs just because I'm not a fan of an exterior cable from the body to the SSD that can potentially lose the shot. For that reason alone I use CFast cards. I popped a 256gb card into my camera, and at 12k 16:9 24fps I get 12 mins at 8:1, 18 mins at 12:1, and 28 mins at 18:1. I mainly shoot 8K on the camera, as I find it to be a great balance between media space and ideal roller shutter speeds.

    • @DylanAsfur
      @DylanAsfur 11 місяців тому +1

      @@chriswarren112 Gotchu, thanks! I was debating whether there is any real benefit to shoot 12K, or if it's just a number to make it sound like the camera has 3 times better quality. Do you notice any quality difference between say 8 and 12K, or is it only when you need to punch the image in during post?

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112  11 місяців тому

      According to BMD and DP John Brawley, its better to shoot in 12K for best color and downscaling. I don't disagree with that, BUT I have never tested that. I've shot 8K & 4K on the camera and nobody has complained about the image :) @@DylanAsfur
