    I can't decide between the G2 and the 12k. I'm tempted to go with the 12k but I don't want to shoot all the time in 8k, and even less in 12k, I wish it was a 6k sensor...I also saw that in 8k there is less dynamic range than in 12k and even less in 4k. And with the G2, if we select gen5 in post (DaVinci), does the colors are the same than the 12k?

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112 3 дні тому

      Yo! Thank you for the comment. The dynamic range doesn't change with less resolution on the UMP 12K. The thing that does change is the rolling shutter. It gets better the lower the resolution. With the G2, if changed to Gen5, you get a similar profile, but the colors will never be as good as on the 12K due to the different sensors. The G2 is still a fantastic camera. I recently rented 2 of them for a pilot for Adult Swim. Now, choosing between the two cams, I was presented that choice when my G1 died on me late 2021. The 12K was out for year and the G2 for 2 years. I went 12K to future proof myself. Its a tough decision, as both cameras are amazing, but different.

    Hello, what is the model for your Bright Tangerine baseplate? Did you have to attach anything else to have the correct lens height and so the matte box fits?

      @chriswarren112 16 днів тому

      Hey @mikes4459! Thank you for checking out the video! The Bright Tangerine baseplate is the LeftField 3 BMD Ursa QR. It comes height adjusted for matte boxes, however I usually use clip on ones (its just easier).

    ENG came 10 of years before RED, so nothing to do with them. ENG where split between V-Mount and Gold, here in Europe anyway. Believe US preferred Gold in general.

    • @charlesteton
      @charlesteton Місяць тому

      Info: The V-mount battery was originally developed by Sony, and is also wildly popular and proven successful battery mounting solution for solo filmmakers to Hollywood productions. Just as it sounds, the battery mounts to a battery plate via a V-shaped locking mechanism - male end on the battery itself and the female located on the battery plate. Gold Mount, also known in the industry as the Anton Bauer Mount, was created by battery manufacture Anton Bauer 53 years ago. This mount can often be seen used on productions big or small in the United States.

    I don’t think it’s quite fair to say people are using vmounts bc of red. Doesn’t make too much sense. Like you mentioned, almost every broadcast I’ve worked on, including top rank for ESPN uses vmount. However, those are swinging on jibs, getting thrown around on the shoulder on the side of the boxing ring, handheld walking through hallways for athlete arrivals. And now we are incorporating them onto our rf backpack. These are heavily used and abused tools. If they were falling off, they wouldn’t be using the vmount system.

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112 Місяць тому

      This is very true. For the little broadcast I have done and seen, you're right, those cameras are going everywhere. Question, why do you think a majority of up and coming filmmakers choose V mount if Gold is the film industry standard? Maybe its what they see on social and just go with that?

      Thanks for watching and for commenting! Question for you, what got you invested in V mount?

  • @ThomasTulak
    @ThomasTulak Місяць тому

    V mount is more affordable. I dont touch the battery when it's attached, so i dont have to worry about that. But for the levels of things I shoot with my own gear, V mount fits my budget better. If / when I'm working on something that calls for a higher level of gear, a more powerful camera with gold mount, I'm either hiring an owner / operator who's at that level, or I'm renting.

    • @chriswarren112

      Yo! Thank you for watching and for the comment. A quick search on B&H showed both V & Gold's being the same price for a majority of brands.

    The media for the cine 12k is only proprietary if one needs the highest frame rates. They have a CF express type B module they showed to some people at NAB, but it hasn't been released yet. As for the lenses. It has an AI that can apparently map and remember any lens that communicates just a little lens id information. They claimed it's not limited to lenses that actually communicate the various types of data displayed on the 1st ac screen

  • @bopsi5145
    @bopsi5145 2 місяці тому

    The EVF is a usbc display port and it’s not proprietary, meaning it could possibly work on other cameras if they supply the correct power.

      Correct. I do see BMD doing this with more of their line, and maybe others, but only time will tell.

      Yo! Thanks for watching! Great question. For this style of shooting, in daylight scenarios I keep the camera at 400. Nighttime events, even though they have big lights (think high school football night game) I go to 1250. Keeping those ISOs with a fast lens (2.8) and 120FPS is the sauce. Sometimes I will also go 90 degree shutter for the B Roll too.

      @chriswarren112 9 місяців тому

      Hey @allencrider, that's the question isn't it? Personally I do not shoot 12k, even though it is said to be best for downsampling. I usually shoot 8k for better RS performance and for ideal card space. On this particular spot, the director likes a lot of post zooms and reframes, so having the resolution helps.

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112 9 місяців тому

      Hey @Nicolapaoli4561! My apologies for the late response. I really enjoy my GL Optics Sigma. I only have the 18-35 and frequently rent the 50-100 (the one from Sigma). I actually got my lens a few months before Sigma announced theirs (talk about timing). Since I don't usually use Sigma's 18-35, I can't really comment on the focus marks from lens to lens. However, my lens vs the Sigma 50-100, mine is a tad bit more Magenta, not sure why. Build quality is solid on both lenses, but the focus gear doesn't match from lens to lens (different companies). I appreciate GL Optics as a company and would get more of their lenses. However, since Sigma actually rehoused theirs, I would go with that if I could.

    • @chriswarren112
      @chriswarren112 10 місяців тому

      Yo Dylan! Honestly, I don't shoot 12k often. I've only done it a handful of times for specific shots. Also, I don't use SSDs just because I'm not a fan of an exterior cable from the body to the SSD that can potentially lose the shot. For that reason alone I use CFast cards. I popped a 256gb card into my camera, and at 12k 16:9 24fps I get 12 mins at 8:1, 18 mins at 12:1, and 28 mins at 18:1. I mainly shoot 8K on the camera, as I find it to be a great balance between media space and ideal roller shutter speeds.

      @@chriswarren112 Gotchu, thanks! I was debating whether there is any real benefit to shoot 12K, or if it's just a number to make it sound like the camera has 3 times better quality. Do you notice any quality difference between say 8 and 12K, or is it only when you need to punch the image in during post?

      According to BMD and DP John Brawley, its better to shoot in 12K for best color and downscaling. I don't disagree with that, BUT I have never tested that. I've shot 8K & 4K on the camera and nobody has complained about the image :) @@DylanAsfur

      Yeah, they're an older style that I got re celled. I have newer, slim ones too. Gold mount is the way to go!

    Oh hell yeah. I need to try this. I love the EVF but I absolutely hate how it has to be mounted to the camera.

      It’s definitely worth it. The unfortunate part of this is that the WC mod is discontinued. I was lucky enough (and did pay a price for it) to get a new mod kit off eBay. I’m surprised with the rise of 3D printers more people haven’t attempted a mod, or other companies doing it.

      @lonelyriderproductions Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to view the short and for the feedback. I love Atlas Orions. Haven't used them on my 12k as much as I wanted. I'm hoping to use the Mercurys on a job soon!

    Way to grab the viewer's attention and hold it, making us wonder what's next. I would love to chat about how you went about getting started. I recently purchased the Ursa 12K and spent a few weeks learning the basics but need (more like a want) to put it to use.

      @EDLEEPHOTO Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it! Congrats on getting an UMP12k! It's such an underrated camera. You can shoot me a DM on IG @cwdp112 or, the old fashioned way, an email at chriswarren112@outlook.com. I'll try to help out as best as I can!

    Shaky cam CAN look good. Personally, I think a handheld look can often be ruined by being too shaky. I’ve never thought a shot was ruined by being too steady.
