Also the cars. It gives a sense seamlessness. I know the engine would not allow Cars in Sims 4 but if Sims 2 could do it, why not 4? after gta remastered came out i dont think it would be a good idea. specially when nowdays we have tons of mods and scripts that can absolutely change the game and make it look like it was released a month ago.

Yep! It's great as is, though. It at least plays decently on my current 5-year-old PC, despite having a mechanical hard drive. However, I'd kind of love for a couple quality of building tweaks from TS4 to be added retroactively into the Sims 3. I'm talking simple things, like the stair manipulation tool which is great! I also like the more modular bunk bed system they've FINALLY added! I'd just love to see a game that takes the best from ALL Sims games, and none of the crappy parts.
this. it was simply the Best Sims game, even if I am nostalgic as heck for Sims 2. Sims 4 killed my passion for the genre, it's just cut down half baked hollow successor that can't justify nickle and diming for content like the earlier games did.
I was amused at around 3:20 that I recognized the house shown. It's the same one my 'teacher' lives in located in the Appaloosa Plains town that comes with Pets. That floorplan and furniture setup is easy to spot. Yes, over 10 years playing and I still see 'new' things as well.

There is so much to do, and that’s what I enjoy about it compared to the sims 4. If I fell asleep playing the sims 3, it’s because I was tired. Agreed! I've been playing The Sims for 20yrs, the level of preoccupation was unmatched. S3 had me obsessed to a point where I would daydream about what I was going to do, explore, challenges, plans for certain families and still have vids of awesome storms and driving around town/snow days/prom/a meteor taking out one of my sims/police arriving at a neighbor's (hate that I never found out what happened but I was too concerned with trying to get my Al Simhara 3 day visa visitor, whom I met on vacation, to marry me so I was on time constraint). Originally I wasn't going to buy Sims 4 because I was so angry over so many things with the direction of the game but the build tools got me. I tried to like S4 but it's missing the core of what made the series great. The only thing to do with S4 is create a sim, find/build/gallery a home, decorate it then live for like 2 sim days in my creation and I'm bored AF. I've gone into S4 2x this year, about the same last yr and once each year prior. I just can't be bothered to care about anything that game nor those sims have to offer. S3, I was in game all weekend -every weekend and would spend vacation playing for days. With a better spec'd out pc build I decided to go back and stop trying with S4. I regret one thing, not doing it sooner.
I remember being a teen when sims 4 came out and I told my friend to ask her mom for sims 3 instead but her mom was like "no this is newer" and I remember playing it and after about 30 minutes playing with CAS I was bored. I did some gameplay and I just kinda said "eh I'm over it" and I really wanted to like it. It was nice to give my sims a big butt but after that it was meh
Open world is definitely the thing I miss the most. I'd rather have a slightly chunky world I can explore than sit through a 3-minute loading screen to visit my neighbor
@Merciless Freak Its under 5 seconds, however it breaks the gameplay. every time I see a loading screen only thing on my mind is to turn off the game. PS: I get the engine cant run 50-60 lots at once, but 6 houses around, or even 3 flats on one floor is managable even by old consoles....
I play on ps4 (don’t have a pc) and in city living it takes about 2-3 minutes to load the apartment room next to mine, even though both of our rooms aren’t even as big as some of the mansions and penthouses you can live in...
In Sims 4 you can't just have a date or some time with your friends. Whenever you go out with someone the other sims just come up to you and start chatting. Or even more awkward when you have a date in a cafe and complete strangers just come up to your table and start eating with you. Like wtf? Everyone seems to talk to each other and everything goes together. This is really frustrating.

Thank you for reminding everyone that the technology of Sims 3 was created in 2009... surely recreating it now would use good enough technology to remove lag!! I miss open worlds and story progression
I am sure, though, that creating something similar would have been possible - if the technology worked with 32-bit systems with a limited amount of RAM and processing power, a newer technology, making use of 64-bit and modern processors (not to mention modern graphics cards) should have made it even easier.
Most lag on modern hardware in The Sims 3 occurs because there's essentially no world cleanup built-in and various behaviors compound it. Over the course of a few days there will be _hundreds_ of cars that got "left behind" by their driver and while they aren't visible, they're being tracked in the background. One of the hardest tasks for the game to handle is long-range pathfinding for the hundreds of people in town, and this is made disastrous by the world maps that came with the game having broken paths everywhere. By simply getting ahold of the fixed maps before you start a fresh game and adding a couple NRAAS mods (namely Overwatch) that catch stuck sims clogging up the pathfinder and clean up the digital garbage in town every sim-night, the game becomes much more smooth and stable. Add in Story Progression to more realistically handle the lives of people in the neighborhood (though be sure to use the options added to the town hall to disable getting notifications about every event in every townie's life...unless you're crazy enough to want that; I set it to blood relatives only) and you have basically the "Fixed Vanilla" Sims 3 experience. Then you can start piling in more NRAAS mods to really flesh it out.
My favorite part about the Sims 3 is the fact that the townies actually have a life, they have plans each day and their own personalities. Sims 4 townies seem to just... exist.
this might sound like a stupid example but it's the same deal in the newer animal crossing games as well. in animal crossing wild world the dialogue was always so interesting and now in new horizons i never talk to the villagers because they just straight up bore me with their empty words. Same as with the Sims unfortunately
Every Sim just exists! I'm so used to the Sims from 2 and 3 to have wild wishes that could potentially destroy the peace in a whole town! Now it's just "hey Amanda uuugh sooooo got any nice wishes? Oh! There's one! Oh... Talk to someone... yeah no, just go to the bathroom"
And the same ones show up everywhere! It doesn't matter what location you're in - downtown, jungle, "secret" magical world - you're still going to run into the same townies over and over. It gets boring.

Remember when if you had a baby in sims 3 you would actually drive to the hospital and watch your sim go in, and come out with a baby in your arms. Now in sims 4 your sim teleports off screen, and reappears empty handed and a baby is randomly placed somewhere in your house. It’d actually be laughable if I hadn’t paid money for this.

I missed stuff like actually being about to grocery shop and buy books at the bookstore. I liked moving to New locations to be closer to work because you got there faster. I loved how the reputation system worked. I loved how you had history in your city and people really would remember what you did. Stuff like being caught cheating and the other sim divorcing you. I also miss family in general. The minute toddler wasn't in the game in the sims 4,I never made a family. Didn't see the point.
Sims 4 has turned into a “dress your sim up”, or “make a perfect life and get bored” type game. I’m thinking of going back to sims 3 for a real simulation game 👌🏾
What i absolutely love the most in the sims 3, is that you can handle multiple sims in different locations at the same time. I can check on one of my sims running the resort in island paradise, while my other sim is diving underwater, and one more sim is shopping for groceries. I can check on those 3 sims at the exact same time, with no loading screens.
Ahh this is a bit disingenuous. sims 3 doesnt run very well, saying you have no lag or loading is just your memory. Isla paradiso crashes the game for most people.

Blame it on them pulling an online Sims 4 multiplayer game ... sims 4 lacks so much because of that. Pretty sure it happened in 2012 (when they pulled the plug) because there’s a promotional trailer out there for it (circa 2012) before the initial 2014 release. Also 2014? Damn it’s been SIX YEARS and counting... lmao
And as much as people ask for different things to make Sims 4 better, it kind of sucks because there's really nothing they can do at this point to make Sims 4 as good as it should've been. So many fundamental parts of the base game are lacking that it would be impossible to incorporate them without completely changing the game. Such as the one dimensional personalities, the interpersonal relationships, the fact that families don't feel like actual families, etc.

Townies generate after every loading screen, new worlds are automatically put into new and old saves without a deletion feature (which is annoying for people who want to make a full world save), the culling in the sims 4 iirc is rather quick (I feel like more quick than TS3) and even will cull dead family members in active families, the hybridization system is not supported anymore (probably because of the the tier system (which I like but they could’ve found a way to make hybrids compatible somehow) and the new UI designs for each occult), relationships with non active families and NPCs die rather quickly lol, Ghosts are bland in death types and emotions, townie NPC job selection is rather odd considering employed sims can even be NPCs as well as played jobless Sims (which I feel can be crucial to atmosphere ... Nancy Landgraab and Don Lothario aren’t Jack of All Trades even though if there was that aspiration it’d be cool to see your played sim be an NPC while you play in another household but... they won’t do that lol), broken tutorial (which I believe is still broken. Well in my game it is lmao), simulation lag in between tasks and multitasking, and so much more mechanic issues.... people think TS4 doesn’t have ANY issues but every sim game does and will because EA and all triple A companies don’t care about core mechanics, glitches, and bugs. It’s sad they left TS2 and 3 in the dust and don’t even care to give those games some updates....
I really wish they would take some of the building aspects from Sims 4 but then take the overall game play of the Sims 3 and put it on to one game I think things like the Parenthood expansion pack for The Sims 4 was actually cool idea take that and mash it up with generations to make an expansion pack I really liked the cool supernatural stuff in the Sims 3 that they never really added back into The Sims 4 I like the concept of being able to stretch around the features on your sim to customize them I really think if a Sims 5 is ever made and it is a combination of the Sims 3 and Sims 4 but in a very specific way that it would be a major success

I met my sims' descendants in the future, and they were very poor that they make a self-deprecating joke about it. I remember I was so sad when I met them. I get my sims work their butt off and now they have 200k simoleons with 3 children. Their descendants are blooming and they now have mother lode status lol. I'm so proud. Never had that kind of storyline in ts4.
I downloaded the Sims 2 a week ago and made a college girl, because I reeeaaaally missed the university gameplay and guess what, she thought another girl in her dorm was hot, I made her talk to her, they dated and got married after graduating and for whatever reason there's now a weird love triangle between her, her wife and a chick she once flirted with, a lot of drama, a lot of throwing hands and pulling wigs, the Sims 4 could NEVER!

Playing the Sims 4 made me appreciate the Sims 3 all over again. My ex may have been a bad decision but his gift of the Sims 3 base game on launch is still one of the best/most thoughtful gifts I have ever been given. It's given me hundreds of hours of fun and enjoyment, and taught me new skills (creating my own items/CAS styles/the neighborhood builder/etc). All hail Sims 3.
In my opinion, Sims 3 Sims do have emotions, it's just not blatantly told to you. But you may zoom on them and see them smiling, or frowning, or looking angry, or mourning someone who's died. They don't have to tell you because the Sims show you. The only Sims that will drop their actions are ones with the absent-minded trait. Because it's done on purpose as part of that trait. They also have confused idle animations, like they're trying to remember something. If you invite a heavily pregnant sim to a party, it's inevitable that they will go into labor at the party. 😆 It's like murphy's law.
Oh, man. I had an absentminded child. She'd get as far as the school-yard and forget what she was doing. Honestly, Sims 2 had more expressive Sims though. It probably has the richest collection of subtle animations and unofficial actions.

The absent-minded thing makes me thing about the fact that sims 3 traits were just more... interesting than the sims 4. Sims 4 traits feel like little buffs/debuffs, maybe with some random renamed interactions. A bookworm sim gets more fun reading books. That's it. There are so many traits in the sims 3, and they have much more of an impact on your sim's personality! That being said, absent-minded sims in a large household are mind-numbingly frustrating. Never again.

Ah, I'd overlooked how time-consuming simply eating is in the Sims 4. Cooking too is also really slow. The Sims 4's multitasking system can actually make doing mundane tasks even more of a chore.
Took my sim 45 sim minutes to make a grilled cheese. She was late to work so she didnt even have time to eat said grilled cheese. Its so ridiculous how long everything takes.
It's a lie to call it multitasking at all. Sims 3 actively does multitasking better than Sims 4. Go play Sims 4 and have them multitask. Pay careful attention to their needs bars as they do so. You'll quickly notice there's no multitasking at all, but rather the game will swap the task in and out periodically. For example if two sims watch a movie, they'll probably start socializing cause heaven forbid anyone goes 2 seconds without socializing in Sims 4, and during this time, their fun will freeze and cease to raise. Their social however will actively raise. They'll then stop socializing and watch the movie a bit before social jumps back in, and now social stops and fun raises. The end result is less desirable because you actually get less fun fulfillment than if you watched the movie alone, and less fun + social fulfillment than ANY other Sims game. This extends to every multitasking combo. Eating food and socializing, raising a skill and socializing, playing chess and socializing...you name it. It makes the multitasking system an active detriment BECAUSE the game is so obsessed with social and practically bombards you with random yahoos wanting to chat. It means you constantly have to "defend your sim" and delete any social requests just so that you can gain the damned logic skill, and eating breakfast before work is actively slowed down by social. To my knowledge the only "multitask" that achieves the desired result is Sims fishing next to each other periodically gain social, though they don't even chat and it's really more of a social reward for sharing a common interest.
I just miss the open world. Actually seeing your sims travel. Have their own cars. Or getting a ride. All that. When I first saw the world in Sims 4 I was baffled. How did they take such a massive step backwards?
if they did open world in sims 4, it would be just like playing minecraft with realistic textures.. it will set your pc on fire. but yeah it would be way better if they did. could probably made open world enable/disable option for people with lower end pcs.

Loved how you mentioned you "got lost in it". That's one of the amazing things about Sims 3, you don't just stick to one thing, you do many, you can become an astronaut that really likes to give other sims makeovers, who knows you can even switch jobs after a while so it's not just a hobby. You can be a chef with a sweet tooth for different cuisines like Egyptian or Chinese and you travel to those worlds to fully immerse in the culture and after a while, you've explored dozens of tombs! Sims 3 definitely has gameplay and a lot of things to do. Yes for those that play sims 3 for years becomes repetitive but never tiring because at the end of the day the game always has that randomness factor, strikes you when you least expect...like a meteor while you're fishing or a woman starts slapping her husband when you're talking to someone in the park. It's really fun, just like the previous game, sims 2. Random, chaotic, and really fun. I also really love the dramatic music that plays when you've reached level 10 of any skill. Gives it that "meaning". In sims 4 it's really meh. And don't underestimate, in sims 3 without mods it's challenging to improve any skill. They really nailed the difficulty, not too easy not too frustrating 10/10. Sims 4 is all over the place. And you technically don't need SSD or the newest pc to play sims 3 satisfactorily. I don't have any of those, my pc is 6yo and has an HDD. It doesn't load mega fast but at a decent rate. It depends on other factors besides SSD, like mods, amount of pointless features, etc. Loading screen can be interactive or normal. I understood why developers added an interactive loading screen. That way you could get reward points while you're waiting but it creates lag, you can deactivate those. Same with memories and the online features. After you tweaked the game, having an SSD is just convenient not a requirement really.
I love in Sims 3 that as I walk home from work, I can accidentally meet a friend and go out, or as I pass by a friend's house I just knock the door. The world of Sims 3 is so alive.
I missed how Sims 3 was so challenging. I revisited World Adventure quite a few times and the tombs were so...creepy, one wrong move and you will die. It gave me the thrills every time. Or in Island Paradise, I had to constantly look around for sharks when diving, please people so my resort won’t get bad reviews or pull my hair out to find that god damn uncharted island. It was so frustrating, so real and I loved it!
World adventures was really one of my favorites. And each of the regions had a new skill you could develop added to the game. China had Martial Arts, France had Nectar Making and Egypt had photography.
World Adventure is such a nice pack even though it was one of the earliest that came out. Jungle adventure in the sims 4 has better loooks but dosen't hold a candle towards the gameplay and the athmosphere. No rabbithole missions ore adventures in WA. And it is actually fun to solve the puzzles and discover the mysteries of each country
Sometimes I got the feeling Sims 3 got a perverse pleasure out of killing Sims - because it easily had some of the most bizarre and numerous ways to kill Sims :P
We should remember that Sims 1-3 was done under the supervision of Will Wright, Co-Founder of Maxis game development studio. I feel he brought a lot of insight to the table to make the games have that feeling of simulation they were supposed to have. The first three games, even though graphically and technically different, still have that cohesiveness when looked at as a whole. Partly, because of common staples in the form of townies like The Thornes, the robbers, the maids, firefighters, etc, found throughout the series. But also because you get the feeling like you are in on the inside joke. The cozy anticipation that you will witness something crazy and unexpected in your playthrough every time you load your save is always worth it. The amount of satisfaction you got from taking your budding and bumbling business owner in Sims 2 Open for Business to a wealthy socialite Mogul who owns seven 5-star 🌟 spas making bank while enlightening your Townies tastes just as good as hot chocolate on a winter's night. I really enjoyed all the different aspects of the games and still play all of them at times. I did try to give Sims 4 a chance, but that enthusiasm was dead in the water when the login issues kept me from saving my game and my sims for the longest time. Then to see how empty the world felt of everything that should have been in a base game, and that there wasn't a "wink wink nudge nudge" feeling after waiting for it all day, I just shelved it indefinitely. Sims 4 is the only Sims game I didn't feel like getting any mods or CC for. It's that serious. I always get mods or CC for sims and have folders upon folders of them for previous titles. Maybe if Will Wright was also lead dev for Sims 4 it would have kept its cohesiveness, but now we'll never know. 🤔
Sims 3 is that kind of a game where I can play whole day on Speed 1 and not 3, because I actually enjoy watching what's happening around the world and my sim, Sims 4on the other hand, ... cant even play on Speed 3 XD
defenitely.. the amount of times i've just played on speed 1 and watched my sim do something mundane or just dancing to the music because i enjoyed watching them have fun 😂 (also when it comes to unique looking sims sims 3 TOPS sims 4.. like you can create Orcs if you want to.. create fucking spock 1 to 1 with just a normal sim.. in the sims 4 you can't even give your normal human sims pointy ears like WHAT)
I recently revisited both 2 and 3. I was so overwhelmed by how the Sims in Sims 2 felt like actual individuals and not puppets, and how the gameplay was so rewarding in the Sims 3! I haven't play 4 in a while...don't know when I'll try it again, either.
@Skip Oliva I never got to play sims 2, but I love university expansions. I loved that in the sims 3 every night someone had a party going on, it was so much fun
And the sims 3 pets is the most complete pet pack, the sims 4 just chopped a full pet pack into different smaller DLCs (cats and dogs, my first pet, cottage living and horse ranch)
im not sure if controlling pets is a plus, because pets in the sims 3 have many downsides compared to the sims 2, really mostly their AI its really worse/inferior, they are less autonomous, they don't do much stuff alone, they never leave you lot never run away, mostly just cares for their needs, in that sense its bad, the pets in the sims 4 are much improved in the AI aspect and they can walk frelly over surfaces more than one cat can be in bed at same time and so on, so im not sure if its worth to trade off all this for just controlling then. the sims 3 have the worse pets in my opnion, if theres one thing the sims 4 does better is vampires/werewolfes and pets.
The more I play new games and old games and the more I learn about gaming in general I become more and more impressed with how ahead of its time sims 3 was, it’s truly incredible.
No, but it's "easier" to play a game where stuff looks good. I think the graphics are really bad in TS3, at least on my computer (which is a very good computer), but I don't care - I still play TS3 😅
Sims 3 wasn't without issues. The first mod I downloaded (of many) was to solve an overagressive story progression not checking if a Sim was a minor before killing them off-screen. Now that's less of a problem. It's old enough that they worked out most of the game-breaking glitches. And since the game no longer updates, the majority of mods are stable too.
Yes but one has to admit that Nraas Mods are really good. Overwatch, Master Controller, Errortrap, Debug Enabler and Story Progression are part of those mods I use a lot for my The Sims 3 games.
Oh does this piss me off. When I tell you I spent 30 min moving around some furniture in different lighting because for some damn reason, the sofa and loveseat from a single set just *slightly* don't match in one of the colours, and it's just noticeable enough to look weird indoors. Can it really be so hard to bring back the colour wheel at least :'( I don't really need to change the entire fabric of things all the time, but the limited colours they offer often seem like they deliberately picked the worst possible choices
I hate that they watered down the swatches so much. They couldn't atleast have made it like Sims 2, where you can change 2-3 different aspects/colors of the object?
@@chloedsmith I hear ya. That's one thing I love about TS3. I can create a bedroom and coordinating bathroom using the same 4 colors. I did that in a chateau I built that's loosely based on Chateau du Landgraab.
the sims 3 is on sale rn and i got the game + all the dlc (using the sims 3 collection bundle on steam) for around 82 dollars. the fact that you have to spend 700 dollars to get all packs for the sims 4 even when it's on sale is crazy.
I think we all need to take a stand and not fork out anymore money on Sims 4 and then they won't have any choice but to cut their losses and move onto Sims 5.

I mean, no joke, but the Sims subreddit has been loaded with people going back to TS3 after the last TS4 pack, myself included. It seems like the Sims community finally got shown what EA thinks of us with this last one and it's hard not to finally see what we lost. I know I've been a TS4 apologist for as long as the game has been out. Well, not anymore. Now if only I could get TS3 to run worth a damn, sh*t that game still takes a while to load and has an embarrassing frame rate.
I've reallyyyy been thinking about reinstallning TS3 and using all of those guides I see on Twitter to run it better. They're supposed to announce the next pack for TS4 in the coming weeks but the whole game is testing my patience. This video definitely reminded me of everything I miss about the old games :(
I like how the sims actually acknowledge each other when they walk In the room especially when generations was added and the kid would play dress up and the adult would acknowledge the kid like this game felt like a a true sim compared to sims no personality 4

Yes! and sims that dislike children will grumble when they walk past them also grumpy sims and loners do the same if there are other sims around. Its the details that really make something come to life. Sims 4 could never.
yes!!! once my teenager sim cooked a meal (for the first time) and his mother went up to him, congratulated and thanked him for the meal automatically !!! shocked..
The eating! In sims 4 the sims always find someone else to talk to while they eat, so the eating becomes even slower. Then they go eat by the pool when dining chairs exist.
This really reminds me of how shocked I was when I discovered that Sims4 isn't a fully "open-world" anymore like its predecessor and downgraded into a somewhat "half-open" kind of world instead by having a seperate maps for different region / city, just like how it goes with Sims2. I really missed the ability to randomly roam around the city with cars or other vehicles in Sims3.
I can't agree more. Sims 3 had so much more soul to it. You actually had a reason to play. Honestly, I can build in TS4, but actually playing it? No. I have no desire. And game packs that rarely have re-play value don't do it for me, either. The only thing TS4 does better is the build mode. The ONLY thing!
Me too and that sad someone who loved to play that much in the earlier Titles. So much, that I build a lot less. But now, there is nothing more to do for me... all so damn boring and it feels always the same, no matter what you do...
So true. I recently went back to 3 and there is so much to do and play with in this game. Almost every little thing you see in the world is interactive. I revisited the world I made before TS4 launched and started building in it again. Build mode is more complex, but at the same time I love the customization and in general it's more fun to build knowing that those fleshed out Sims are going to live in my build and use the many objects I didn't even know we had. I made a house for an old Lady because I'm tired of only playing young adults and she is so fun and different from elders in 4. She has a cockatoo bird, and chicks too, makes jam and sings karaoke in her free time. She always bikes to the grocery store and is friends with the young children that live next to her. Sometimes she takes her dog around the block for a walk just to see what her neighbors are doing and if someone got pregnant or started a new hobby. I send her to vacation a few hours ago and now she is making wine in a basement in Sims France. There is so much more happening in this game and I don't have to imagine things happening instead 😂😂
@@12wer3wer9 this is why I love the older sim games. You could do so much, and great stories would unfold. In fact if you didn't interfere some really crazy stuff would happen. But with TS4 is so boring sometimes and rarely do weird exciting things happen
Sims 3 will always have an special place in my heart! I LOVE being able to ride horses and stuff. Plus, fairies and werewolves!!! Also, expansions really do compliment each other, they don't feel separated at all. I wish that it was possible to use The Sims 4 graphics on The Sims 3. =X
I agree with this massively - one of my biggest frustrations with TS4 is that you can buy an expansion, explore all its features, then buy a new expansion and then it’s suddenly like all the features of the other expansion don’t matter or have any bearing on actions made in the new expansion. They don’t have deep lasting impressions on the gameplay, only surface level, and they don’t interact with one another.
I love how Late Night introduced Vampires, and Supernatural went "Okay, I know we already have vamps in Late Night, but we're reintroducing them here as well with different features AND if you have both packs then both versions will be combined so it has everything from both packs." It was also neat how Seasons allowed vamps with parasols equipped to stay in the sun for as long as they want.
I miss how traits would mean something and actually develop personality instead of being tutorials for playing the game. It was actually interesting getting to know a sims traits because there were more than like 10. One time my sim was trying to woo a guy only to keep being rebuffed despite their high friendship and I later learned that he was unflirty! It's things like that where a sims personality actually affected how I interacted with them. All sims in the sims 4 can be talked to and will react the exact same way.
I remember the first time I played sims 4. I was SO disapointed in that game that I went back to sims 3 almost immidiatly. I have a few save files still on sims 4 but its very rarely for me to keep playing it. Sims 3 is and always will be my cuo of tea for sure😎
@@theescargotconsumer lol, all the sims games have actual emotions - in Sims 3 my sim gets excited when he catches a fish, happy when he sits to eat his favorite meal, angry or upset if he sees his wife cheating on him. Sims 4 just dumbs things down by telling the player explicitly what emotion their sim is feeling; in the other games you have to pay attention!
The ability to make insane amount of family generations in sims 3 got me playing it. And the fact that sims there actually has a "mind" of their own and do what they want to do. I just love seeing that. Truly an open-world life simulation game
The biggest thing I miss from Sims 3 is the colour wheel. I used to love building houses, but in 4 I really don’t. I struggle to find items that match. That and having a car I really miss, my favourite moment in sims 3 was my sim restoring that muscle car with his daughter then teaching her to drive in that car. That and sims 3 gave you much more lots with new expansions etc.
Yes. If they added that alone to Sims 4 it would just be a lot less frustrating. I don't mind the lack of patterns for the most part, but no color wheel really hurts.
I love the Sims 3 and I believe it is the best sims yet, the endless customization options for furniture, clothes, textures, the big open worlds full of places to visit and build, the variety of well made expansion packs from this era, the more realistic-style graphics, etc., make this game by far superior than The Sims 4. I am a fan of the series and I´ve felt really disappointed of the Sims 4 since its release, it is very limited and boring to play, it almost feels like one of that mobile versions of The Sims compared to The Sims 3, which is the Sims version I still play today and plan to continue with until EA releases a new version AT LEAST as good as The Sims 3.
In the Sims 3, I can stare at the ghosts in the cemetary move around at night and Sims doing their own thing while my own sims are sleeping or at work, and I LOVE that, the Sims 4 never had anything like that.

This made me miss Sims 3 so much :(( I'm one of those few people that actually prefere Sims 3 to Sims 2 because Sims 2 is just too overdramatic for me and Sims 3 is the perfect middle ground between full-on-drama and lifeless humans
The travel thing took me so long to adjust to. I don’t even travel when playing sometimes anymore which makes it boring. No one feels like sitting in a loading screen for two minutes every time they travel. I loved being able to roam the city while my sims did stuff or being able to go to my kids schools and watch as they walked out. I also remember in University when you could sit in class with your sim. The main thing I do in sims 4 is create sims now
I can manage a full family of 8 in TS3. The kids can be at school, one is at the library, one is practising their hobby, and I can keep tabs and control what's happening with each of them in real time (well, Sims time), without having to go through a sodding loading screen for each one because they happen to be in different places. Why did they have to regress the game so much? It's almost like Sims 1 again.

They’re making us pay for stuff we had for free in the other games, or splitting a whole dlc worth of content into small increments that we have to pay for. @@tee227 well, you can do very complex staircases in sims 3 too, you just need to use the constrainfloorelevation cheat, which already gave me flashbacks to sleepless nights spent on trying to figure out how to make a split-level home. It's not particularly intuitive, but it's extremely powerful.
something i like about the older sims games, especially the sims 3, is that it feels harder. you actually have to work to get to your goal or to fix your relationship after you cheated, meanwhile in the sims 4, you can easily fix things in just a few steps.
Sims 3 is amazing and the lag is just worth it. I've played it since I was a kid and I am just thoroughly looking forward till I can go home and play sims 3!
I really miss the story progression in the Sims 3, especially with the NRAAS mod. I remember when it first came out and I was hesitant. Back in the Sims 2 days, I was the kind of player who played multiple families in the neighborhood. I was worried I would lose control. But, once I experienced it for myself, I actually fell in love with it. I loved the pop-up telling me about what was going on and watching it happen if I was quick enough.
In the Sims 3 I play most of the whole town. I have generations of sims playing on basically the longest lifespan with shortening infants and tots a little. I have a whole story with a range of personalities and characters. When I bought Sims 4 I can't really do that and make the town as rich and detailed as I had in the Sims 3. So I still play the Sims 3 and love it. I do use NRAAS so I can customize their lives even more and can make my town bigger than the vanilla game allows. I would love to see them go back to the open world to the level of sims 3 but it would be tough to transition as I have played this town 3 years now and am quite invested in it.
I got bored with Sims 4 at around year 2 and went back to playing Sims 3. I still paid attention but officially stopped playing after the Parenthood pack and then I deleted it from my computer. I wasn’t able to play Sims 3 when I first got it but now that I have a slightly better laptop now, I have fallen in love with it again. I feel like this game trumps sims 4 on every level just because the gameplay matters...especially with story progression mods. I also prefer the animation style but that’s definitely subjective! I’d love an updated Sims 3 style.
Yeah me too, it's a fantastic game. I remember when it came out back just before I started high school. I loved it back then and love it today. Every save is unique with loads to do, I literally still find new stuff even having put 1k+ hours on it.
I often catch myself thinking I'd just like my sims to brush their teeth without becoming confident. Sometimes it's not the optimal mood, sometimes I hate the walkstyle. And I just wanna raise their hygiene without having them to wash hands 2-3 times in a row 🙄 UPD after watching the whole thing: The wishes - yaaaaaaaas. Omg I feel like it's really the thing I miss the most along with more traits. As a kid I only picked the "good" traits for my sims and yet it still felt more meaningful. But wishes! Wishes were everything. I was sympathizing with my sims, seeing a wish that's important to their lifelong goal and being like "oh yeah, you totally should do that". Sometimes feeling guilty when I haven't fulfilled it for a long time and they already have other important wishes coming up 😅😂 I just liked how the game would lead me and I felt like I was interacting with my sims, without having to ALWAYS make up all the stories for them in my mind. It was so good. I remember coming into the sims 4 for the first time and being like "wait, where are the wishes? 😢😞". And the more I play the sims 4 the more I understand how much depth they really brought. And whims are not even close! They're tiny and they just feel so random, and they're often disabled. Maybe I should go back to the Sims 3 afterall. I miss it quite a lot now.
The moodlets just made so much more sense in TS3. Like, I don't feel confident after I brush my teeth, I feel like my teeth are clean and that they have the minty taste. Maybe emotions would have worked if there were more of them or if they were more refined but they're so stupidly overpowered and nonsensical.
@@JamesFluker I don't feel confident after i brush my teeth. I feel ashamed because I never finished that glass of orange juice. But on a more serious note, emotions are far too easy to cheese. Memorize what to do to get flirty (it's as easy as watching an episode of TV) in the morning and you'll be married by 5. Relationships are way too easy as well.
I miss them too, having a family outing and taking the car having picnics at the park or beach teaching your sims to drive taking them to school those were the days
this video makes me smile . :^) you're spot-on with everything here, especially with the levels of difficulty and depth of skill-building! The skill journal made me OBSESSED with the photography skill in Sims 3 because it was more than just "reaching the next level", it was also about making your Sim get out of the house to try to capture these specific moments with their camera like "Lovers Kissing in France", and the more you achieved, the more simoleons your photographs would be worth so you could do it freelance! The goals for it even included things from other packs you'd installed, like you could seek out photographing a "Zombie Attack!" from Supernatural. Ugh, it's so rad I could talk about it for hours. And collecting things around the town and sending them off to be analyzed by the Science Facility is another obsession of mine, I miss it in Sims 4 !
Im a new simmer and I started with Sims 4. Bought a ton of packs but figured it out kinda fast. Then I found out about sims 3. I thought it was gonna be bad because usually newer is better. Its now my favorite. It not too easy and theres so many details that make it enjoyable. And the open world is great for playing big households.
I redownloaded Sims 3 yesterday and bought some packs on origin never got to play in my childhood- I felt the difference from the very beginning, as soon as my sim actually took a taxi to the library and I could indeed follow her from her front door to the library steps.
the best memory i have of the Sims was when i had a family with twins in TS3, and the husband ended up cheating so the wife took one of the twins and left. then the twins had a birthday party at the community pool and one ended up drowning. TS4 has NEVER given me that much of a juicy storyline
On the "Do as their told" note, in Sims 3 you can toggle level of autonomy for your sims. Never plays sims 4 and never will, but Sims 3 lets you decide if you want a 100% obedient sim versus a "eh let's see what they do on their own," sim.
TS4 says it can do the same thing, but I can turn off autonomy as much as I like and the sims will still run all over the place instead of sitting down to dinner and just staying put for once lol.
unless they're absent minded or the action is illegal due to moodlets/stats sims will always follow your orders. However the higher the autonomy scale, the more likely the sims are to take care of their own needs and ai desires based on traits. Basically the higher the autonomy the more stuff they'll do. Very low autonomy will typically only feed themselves, while slightly higher will actually go to the bathroom/clean themselves. medium-ish will go to work/school on time (within reason), high and full being almost fully capable of playing the game themselves within the bounds of their traits (aside for changes only the player can do).
Sims 3 lets you select how much autonomy they have (full autonomy, low autonomy, no autonomy) and they obey, whereas in sims 4 you either have full autonomy or no autonomy, and even when you have no autonomy, sims in sims 4 still do whatever they please lol its so frustrating
sims 2 had the best eating. if they were alone they would eat like in ts3 but when sorrounded by others they would always sit next to each other and have quick chats in between bites, unlike ts4 where they would have intervals of 3 hours
Literally one of my main motivations to finish university is so I can get a job that makes good money and thus be able to buy an epic computer that can run The Sims 3 well!
The funniest thing about Sims 3 to me it's that I have been playing it since 2011/2012 and I still find new stuff to do in eatch play tru I have all expansions but not all of the stuff packs It's also much more fun to actually leave the house lot to do stuff in ts3
I never minded the rabbit holes, really. It's really fun that you can hear what's going on inside and can be imaginative what's happening. I much prefer then my sim just leaving and me having nothing to do.
Honestly, watching this makes me so sad. The sims 4 could have been so great but instead we‘ve got ...this. TS3 reigns supreme in almost every single aspect! Parents talking their babies out in a stroller, repercussion system so that your actions actually mattered, visiting a grave yard (!!) seeing your neighborhood progress etc. it was just the best game. I miss create a style so freaking much. You could basically make every item suitable in a room and didn‘t have to worry about limited swatches
This makes me want to go and try to figure out how to play S3. I've had it for years and rarely play it because I never figured out how to start. Now I'm excited to make a go at it again
It's pretty clear the sims 3 is an upgrade of the sims 4 .The sims 4 does not even have half the basic content that sims 3 has. Maxis should be ashamed .

Another few things I noticed is how much effort you have to put into getting to know the other sims! Firstly, there’s more traits and those traits make a significant difference. Second, you might use one “get to know” to get a trait revealed but then there’s a cool down for when you can do it again. Even if you manage to que it twice, you run the risk of the convo becoming boring to the other sim. And sometimes they don’t even tell you a trait! But I also love how my sim actually is “attracted” to some other sims. Like little hearts pop up when they first meet and you get an indefinite moodlet that says “attractive sim nearby.” It definitely points me in a direction on who to pursue romantic relationships with. But then one of those attractive sims might drop me at the keg or I find out they’re a womanizer and my interest drops again! It’s so alive.
Sims 3 is all around better. I really miss finding wild animals and keeping them as pets in the game. I'm passionate about wildlife rehabilitation so I do that in real life...but then let them go once they're old enough/healthy enough
There was one problem i had with Sims 3. Save corruption. Happened twice and on both was when i had much activities with them (family, going on vacation, exploring new worlds, new jobs, maxing out all skills etc.). It happened during 2012 when i had so-so computer (which did sound like an airplane taking off). Also my favorite experience in Sims 3 was Seasons. Making angels, snowman, snow fights and actual wardrobe at the door. Plus the raining and umbrella (if you don't have then your Sim be soaked). I remember washing machine, but that was optional. It was good to use and can delete it anytime you want after you're bored of collecting clothes and feeling fresh everytime you wash Sim clothes. Personally i liked Seasons music in 2 and 3. And then i remember making Sim robot which was rng. Wanted to get clored one, like the one they promoted in trailer but mostly got silver or rusty. Time machine was nice touch. And getting Alien vehicle was awesome (instead of driving there, it teleports you to that location). I stopped buying expansions since from University was announced.
I love wishes. Sometimes I'm just chilling and my sim wants a child and I just give it to them. They really depend on personality, which really directs my gameplay a lot. Like I wouldn't buy more mirrors without a snob sim, but I do and befriend rich people because my snob sim wants it. Just like my sim loving the outdoors randomly wants to learn fishing or my unlucky sim actually wants to win at a game.i can tell personalities apart and they really direct gameplay thanks to wishes. Sims 4 whims are useless and the Sims all feel like the same person
sims 3 just feels more nostalgic for me - it was the first sims games I ever bought on my own and played on my own. I got into it after I graduated secondary school and had some off time then, so I literally played it EVERY DAY for HOURS. it was so fun and it felt endless! i used to play the game with my Spotify playlist in the background and some songs still remind me of that fun carefree time I had with sims 3. I just loved everything in the sims 3, except for the lag ofc (my game would randomly crash at times) I specifically loved the University, Seasons and Generations pack. Everything about those three packs were so perfect and essential for me! The sims 4 versions of these are so lacklustre and boring. I miss the open world-ness of the sims 3 and how alive it really felt. Watching my sims walk or drive from their home to school or work was always so fun… I wish the sims 3 was made a little bit more in the future so the technology could support the excellent gameplay it originally has.
I cant understand why sims 4 have made death and tombstones so complicated, no mausoleum and constant culling, how hard can it be to put a tombstone where you can find it.
I know that pisses me off so much too. It's like they don't think we care about our dead Sims and it's quite sinister on EA's part imo. I've been playing Sims 3 again for awhile now and I don't regret it at all.

I just finished playing Sims 3 before checking UA-cam, lol. Played it for about four hours. That's around 3 and 1/2 hours longer than I used to play Sims 4. I actually didn't play Sims 3 for that long when it actually came out, I went back to Sims 2 for a long time before trying Sims 4 last year, so I'm having fun exploring some of the things I didn't get to play in Sims 3 and it's been so much more fun than I've ever had in Sims 4. You pointed out so many reasons I've been having more fun with Sims 3. My sim doesn't take five sim hours to eat a meal. They don't stand there between tasks for 8 hours. They don't go off and drink water, which seems to not be something I can ever cancel. There's actually stuff for my sim to do. I'm taking my sims through university (I'm not loving how University works in Sims 3, compared to Sims 2, but it's okay) and even though it's more simple than Sims 4, I'm having more fun. Also, I'm living for all the shade, lol. I remember looking through the beds when I first started playing Sims 3 again and there are BUNK BEDS. It makes NO SENSE that we can't have, at least, that in Sims 4. The gurus wonder why so many simmers are upset and going back to previous games, it's because, even as old and limited as some of the older games are (mostly looking at Sims 2, here), they are still MORE fun to play and have things Sims 4 can't give us. I knew Sims 4 was bad, which is why I didn't get it until it was free last year... yet, I'm still disappointed by it and the few packs I bought for it. I was done spending any money on it once I realized it was still so empty.
Sims 4 never had any potential. It sucked when it came out, it sucked more when they kept making scam packs with little content and lots of them. Sims 3 remains the most advanced game.
I like 3 more than 4 because the building in 3 was so much more in depth and customizable. Especially the roofs. God do I miss being able to build a nice roof.
Sims 4 threw me of the loop and ruined my play style. Going back to 3, I've forgotten how to play like, literally forget. It's been years, but I think I'm gonna go back and create a sculptor sim. I've tried everything in Sims 4, but there are still so much in Sims 3 I haven't done in-depth
A friend of mine really loves sims 2 still. Because the animations of everyday actions were so detailed. For example when the sims are cooking they don't spawn their utensils out of thin air. Instead they take them out of a drawer from the kitchen counter they are working at. I really love sims 3. It is still my fave, because there was one big loading screen and then a whole neighborhood for you to explore. I recently changed back to sims 3 and don't regret it :)
Also the sims 3 genetics and actual labels of “step dad” and “half sister” etc etc. On the sims 4 I had to edit the family to set the last name to everyone cause it didn’t automatically set it, like it should in the older sims games. 🤔

Also the cars. It gives a sense seamlessness. I know the engine would not allow Cars in Sims 4 but if Sims 2 could do it, why not 4? Just show me my Sim getting on a car pool instead of just disappearing in the front lawn to go to work!

Yep! It's great as is, though. It at least plays decently on my current 5-year-old PC, despite having a mechanical hard drive. However, I'd kind of love for a couple quality of building tweaks from TS4 to be added retroactively into the Sims 3. I'm talking simple things, like the stair manipulation tool which is great! I also like the more modular bunk bed system they've FINALLY added!
I'd just love to see a game that takes the best from ALL Sims games, and none of the crappy parts.

I was amused at around 3:20 that I recognized the house shown. It's the same one my 'teacher' lives in located in the Appaloosa Plains town that comes with Pets. That floorplan and furniture setup is easy to spot. Yes, over 10 years playing and I still see 'new' things as well.
I agree! I’ve been playing sims 3 since it came out, and I’ve still never completed every career, every skill, and every lifetime wish. There is so much to do, and that’s what I enjoy about it compared to the sims 4. If I fell asleep playing the sims 3, it’s because I was tired. When I fall asleep playing the sims 4, it’s cause I’m bored.

Agreed! I've been playing The Sims for 20yrs, the level of preoccupation was unmatched. S3 had me obsessed to a point where I would daydream about what I was going to do, explore, challenges, plans for certain families and still have vids of awesome storms and driving around town/snow days/prom/a meteor taking out one of my sims/police arriving at a neighbor's (hate that I never found out what happened but I was too concerned with trying to get my Al Simhara 3 day visa visitor, whom I met on vacation, to marry me so I was on time constraint).
Originally I wasn't going to buy Sims 4 because I was so angry over so many things with the direction of the game but the build tools got me. I tried to like S4 but it's missing the core of what made the series great. The only thing to do with S4 is create a sim, find/build/gallery a home, decorate it then live for like 2 sim days in my creation and I'm bored AF. I've gone into S4 2x this year, about the same last yr and once each year prior. I just can't be bothered to care about anything that game nor those sims have to offer. S3, I was in game all weekend -every weekend and would spend vacation playing for days. With a better spec'd out pc build I decided to go back and stop trying with S4. I regret one thing, not doing it sooner.
I remember being a teen when sims 4 came out and I told my friend to ask her mom for sims 3 instead but her mom was like "no this is newer" and I remember playing it and after about 30 minutes playing with CAS I was bored. I did some gameplay and I just kinda said "eh I'm over it" and I really wanted to like it. It was nice to give my sims a big butt but after that it was meh
Open world is definitely the thing I miss the most. I'd rather have a slightly chunky world I can explore than sit through a 3-minute loading screen to visit my neighbor

I play on ps4 (don’t have a pc) and in city living it takes about 2-3 minutes to load the apartment room next to mine, even though both of our rooms aren’t even as big as some of the mansions and penthouses you can live in...
In Sims 4 you can't just have a date or some time with your friends. Whenever you go out with someone the other sims just come up to you and start chatting. Or even more awkward when you have a date in a cafe and complete strangers just come up to your table and start eating with you. Like wtf? Everyone seems to talk to each other and everything goes together. This is really frustrating.
Or when you get invited to a place it take you there instantly...

Thank you for reminding everyone that the technology of Sims 3 was created in 2009... surely recreating it now would use good enough technology to remove lag!! I miss open worlds and story progression
I am sure, though, that creating something similar would have been possible - if the technology worked with 32-bit systems with a limited amount of RAM and processing power, a newer technology, making use of 64-bit and modern processors (not to mention modern graphics cards) should have made it even easier.
Actually they started making TS3 in 2004/2005 ish so even earlier! I’m amazed with how good this game is for its time.

Most lag on modern hardware in The Sims 3 occurs because there's essentially no world cleanup built-in and various behaviors compound it. Over the course of a few days there will be _hundreds_ of cars that got "left behind" by their driver and while they aren't visible, they're being tracked in the background. One of the hardest tasks for the game to handle is long-range pathfinding for the hundreds of people in town, and this is made disastrous by the world maps that came with the game having broken paths everywhere. By simply getting ahold of the fixed maps before you start a fresh game and adding a couple NRAAS mods (namely Overwatch) that catch stuck sims clogging up the pathfinder and clean up the digital garbage in town every sim-night, the game becomes much more smooth and stable. Add in Story Progression to more realistically handle the lives of people in the neighborhood (though be sure to use the options added to the town hall to disable getting notifications about every event in every townie's life...unless you're crazy enough to want that; I set it to blood relatives only) and you have basically the "Fixed Vanilla" Sims 3 experience. Then you can start piling in more NRAAS mods to really flesh it out.
My favorite part about the Sims 3 is the fact that the townies actually have a life, they have plans each day and their own personalities. Sims 4 townies seem to just... exist.

this might sound like a stupid example but it's the same deal in the newer animal crossing games as well. in animal crossing wild world the dialogue was always so interesting and now in new horizons i never talk to the villagers because they just straight up bore me with their empty words. Every Sim just exists! I'm so used to the Sims from 2 and 3 to have wild wishes that could potentially destroy the peace in a whole town! Now it's just "hey Amanda uuugh sooooo got any nice wishes? Oh! There's one! Oh... Talk to someone... yeah no, just go to the bathroom"
And the same ones show up everywhere! It doesn't matter what location you're in - downtown, jungle, "secret" magical world - you're still going to run into the same townies over and over. It gets boring.

Remember when if you had a baby in sims 3 you would actually drive to the hospital and watch your sim go in, and come out with a baby in your arms. Now in sims 4 your sim teleports off screen, and reappears empty handed and a baby is randomly placed somewhere in your house. It’d actually be laughable if I hadn’t paid money for this.
If you have get to work you actually get to go to the hospital with them and see the baby be born.

I missed stuff like actually being about to grocery shop and buy books at the bookstore. I liked moving to New locations to be closer to work because you got there faster. I loved how the reputation system worked. I loved how you had history in your city and people really would remember what you did. Stuff like being caught cheating and the other sim divorcing you. I also miss family in general. The minute toddler wasn't in the game in the sims 4,I never made a family. Didn't see the point.

What i absolutely love the most in the sims 3, is that you can handle multiple sims in different locations at the same time. I can check on one of my sims running the resort in island paradise, while my other sim is diving underwater, and one more sim is shopping for groceries. I can check on those 3 sims at the exact same time, with no loading screens.
Ahh this is a bit disingenuous. sims 3 doesnt run very well, saying you have no lag or loading is just your memory. Isla paradiso crashes the game for most people.

And as much as people ask for different things to make Sims 4 better, it kind of sucks because there's really nothing they can do at this point to make Sims 4 as good as it should've been. So many fundamental parts of the base game are lacking that it would be impossible to incorporate them without completely changing the game. Such as the one dimensional personalities, the interpersonal relationships, the fact that families don't feel like actual families, etc.

Townies generate after every loading screen, new worlds are automatically put into new and old saves without a deletion feature (which is annoying for people who want to make a full world save), the culling in the sims 4 iirc is rather quick (I feel like more quick than TS3) and even will cull dead family members in active families, the hybridization system is not supported anymore (probably because of the the tier system (which I like but they could’ve found a way to make hybrids compatible somehow) and the new UI designs for each occult), relationships with non active families and NPCs die rather quickly lol, Ghosts are bland in death types and emotions, townie NPC job selection is rather odd considering employed sims can even be NPCs as well as played jobless Sims (which I feel can be crucial to atmosphere ... Nancy Landgraab and Don Lothario aren’t Jack of All Trades even though if there was that aspiration it’d be cool to see your played sim be an NPC while you play in another household but... they won’t do that lol), broken tutorial (which I believe is still broken. Well in my game it is lmao), simulation lag in between tasks and multitasking, and so much more mechanic issues.... people think TS4 doesn’t have ANY issues but every sim game does and will because EA and all triple A companies don’t care about core mechanics, glitches, and bugs. It’s sad they left TS2 and 3 in the dust and don’t even care to give those games some updates....

I really wish they would take some of the building aspects from Sims 4 but then take the overall game play of the Sims 3 and put it on to one game I think things like the Parenthood expansion pack for The Sims 4 was actually cool idea take that and mash it up with generations to make an expansion pack I really liked the cool supernatural stuff in the Sims 3 that they never really added back into The Sims 4 I like the concept of being able to stretch around the features on your sim to customize them I really think if a Sims 5 is ever made and it is a combination of the Sims 3 and Sims 4 but in a very specific way that it would be a major success

I met my sims' descendants in the future, and they were very poor that they make a self-deprecating joke about it. I remember I was so sad when I met them. I get my sims work their butt off and now they have 200k simoleons with 3 children. Their descendants are blooming and they now have mother lode status lol. I'm so proud. Never had that kind of storyline in ts4.

I downloaded the Sims 2 a week ago and made a college girl, because I reeeaaaally missed the university gameplay and guess what, she thought another girl in her dorm was hot, I made her talk to her, they dated and got married after graduating and for whatever reason there's now a weird love triangle between her, her wife and a chick she once flirted with, a lot of drama, a lot of throwing hands and pulling wigs, the Sims 4 could NEVER!

Playing the Sims 4 made me appreciate the Sims 3 all over again. My ex may have been a bad decision but his gift of the Sims 3 base game on launch is still one of the best/most thoughtful gifts I have ever been given. It's given me hundreds of hours of fun and enjoyment, and taught me new skills (creating my own items/CAS styles/the neighborhood builder/etc).

In my opinion, Sims 3 Sims do have emotions, it's just not blatantly told to you. But you may zoom on them and see them smiling, or frowning, or looking angry, or mourning someone who's died. They don't have to tell you because the Sims show you.
The only Sims that will drop their actions are ones with the absent-minded trait. Because it's done on purpose as part of that trait. They also have confused idle animations, like they're trying to remember something.
If you invite a heavily pregnant sim to a party, it's inevitable that they will go into labor at the party. 😆 It's like murphy's law.

I legit made my Sim self in sims 3 with the absent minded trait. I never felt so attacked in a game. It was just too accurate.
The absent-minded thing makes me thing about the fact that sims 3 traits were just more... interesting than the sims 4. Sims 4 traits feel like little buffs/debuffs, maybe with some random renamed interactions. A bookworm sim gets more fun reading books. That's it. There are so many traits in the sims 3, and they have much more of an impact on your sim's personality! That being said, absent-minded sims in a large household are mind-numbingly frustrating. Never again.

Ah, I'd overlooked how time-consuming simply eating is in the Sims 4. Cooking too is also really slow. The Sims 4's multitasking system can actually make doing mundane tasks even more of a chore.
Took my sim 45 sim minutes to make a grilled cheese. She was late to work so she didnt even have time to eat said grilled cheese. Its so ridiculous how long everything takes.
It's a lie to call it multitasking at all. Sims 3 actively does multitasking better than Sims 4.
Go play Sims 4 and have them multitask. Pay careful attention to their needs bars as they do so. You'll quickly notice there's no multitasking at all, but rather the game will swap the task in and out periodically. For example if two sims watch a movie, they'll probably start socializing cause heaven forbid anyone goes 2 seconds without socializing in Sims 4, and during this time, their fun will freeze and cease to raise. Their social however will actively raise. They'll then stop socializing and watch the movie a bit before social jumps back in, and now social stops and fun raises. The end result is less desirable because you actually get less fun fulfillment than if you watched the movie alone, and less fun + social fulfillment than ANY other Sims game.
This extends to every multitasking combo. Eating food and socializing, raising a skill and socializing, playing chess and socializing...you name it. It makes the multitasking system an active detriment BECAUSE the game is so obsessed with social and practically bombards you with random yahoos wanting to chat. It means you constantly have to "defend your sim" and delete any social requests just so that you can gain the damned logic skill, and eating breakfast before work is actively slowed down by social. To my knowledge the only "multitask" that achieves the desired result is Sims fishing next to each other periodically gain social, though they don't even chat and it's really more of a social reward for sharing a common interest.

Loved how you mentioned you "got lost in it". That's one of the amazing things about Sims 3, you don't just stick to one thing, you do many, you can become an astronaut that really likes to give other sims makeovers, who knows you can even switch jobs after a while so it's not just a hobby. You can be a chef with a sweet tooth for different cuisines like Egyptian or Chinese and you travel to those worlds to fully immerse in the culture and after a while, you've explored dozens of tombs! Sims 3 definitely has gameplay and a lot of things to do. Yes for those that play sims 3 for years becomes repetitive but never tiring because at the end of the day the game always has that randomness factor, strikes you when you least expect...like a meteor while you're fishing or a woman starts slapping her husband when you're talking to someone in the park. It's really fun, just like the previous game, sims 2. Random, chaotic, and really fun.
I also really love the dramatic music that plays when you've reached level 10 of any skill. Gives it that "meaning". In sims 4 it's really meh. And don't underestimate, in sims 3 without mods it's challenging to improve any skill. They really nailed the difficulty, not too easy not too frustrating 10/10. Sims 4 is all over the place.
And you technically don't need SSD or the newest pc to play sims 3 satisfactorily. I don't have any of those, my pc is 6yo and has an HDD. It doesn't load mega fast but at a decent rate. It depends on other factors besides SSD, like mods, amount of pointless features, etc.
Loading screen can be interactive or normal. I understood why developers added an interactive loading screen. That way you could get reward points while you're waiting but it creates lag, you can deactivate those.
Same with memories and the online features. After you tweaked the game, having an SSD is just convenient not a requirement really.
I love in Sims 3 that as I walk home from work, I can accidentally meet a friend and go out, or as I pass by a friend's house I just knock the door. The world of Sims 3 is so alive.
You can also die of starvation, if you try walking from one corner of the map to the other corner, especially if you use a custom map. lol.

I missed how Sims 3 was so challenging. I revisited World Adventure quite a few times and the tombs were so...creepy, one wrong move and you will die. It gave me the thrills every time. Or in Island Paradise, I had to constantly look around for sharks when diving, please people so my resort won’t get bad reviews or pull my hair out to find that god damn uncharted island. It was so frustrating, so real and I loved it!

World adventures was really one of my favorites. And each of the regions had a new skill you could develop added to the game. China had Martial Arts, France had Nectar Making and Egypt had photography.
World Adventure is such a nice pack even though it was one of the earliest that came out. Jungle adventure in the sims 4 has better loooks but dosen't hold a candle towards the gameplay and the athmosphere. No rabbithole missions ore adventures in WA. And it is actually fun to solve the puzzles and discover the mysteries of each country

Sometimes I got the feeling Sims 3 got a perverse pleasure out of killing Sims - because it easily had some of the most bizarre and numerous ways to kill Sims :P
We should remember that Sims 1-3 was done under the supervision of Will Wright, Co-Founder of Maxis game development studio. I feel he brought a lot of insight to the table to make the games have that feeling of simulation they were supposed to have. The first three games, even though graphically and technically different, still have that cohesiveness when looked at as a whole. Partly, because of common staples in the form of townies like The Thornes, the robbers, the maids, firefighters, etc, found throughout the series. But also because you get the feeling like you are in on the inside joke.
The cozy anticipation that you will witness something crazy and unexpected in your playthrough every time you load your save is always worth it. The amount of satisfaction you got from taking your budding and bumbling business owner in Sims 2 Open for Business to a wealthy socialite Mogul who owns seven 5-star 🌟 spas making bank while enlightening your Townies tastes just as good as hot chocolate on a winter's night. I really enjoyed all the different aspects of the games and still play all of them at times.
I did try to give Sims 4 a chance, but that enthusiasm was dead in the water when the login issues kept me from saving my game and my sims for the longest time. Then to see how empty the world felt of everything that should have been in a base game, and that there wasn't a "wink wink nudge nudge" feeling after waiting for it all day, I just shelved it indefinitely. Sims 4 is the only Sims game I didn't feel like getting any mods or CC for. It's that serious. I always get mods or CC for sims and have folders upon folders of them for previous titles. Maybe if Will Wright was also lead dev for Sims 4 it would have kept its cohesiveness, but now we'll never know. 🤔
Sims 3 is that kind of a game where I can play whole day on Speed 1 and not 3, because I actually enjoy watching what's happening around the world and my sim, Sims 4on the other hand, ... cant even play on Speed 3 XD
I never moved to Sims 4 and I spend most of my gameplay in Sims 3 in speed 1. Only spending it up when they're sleeping or at work haha

I recently revisited both 2 and 3. I was so overwhelmed by how the Sims in Sims 2 felt like actual individuals and not puppets, and how the gameplay was so rewarding in the Sims 3! I haven't play 4 in a while...don't know when I'll try it again, either.

The biggest thing for me was the fact in Sims Pets you can actually control and be the pets. Not in the newer one though.
And the sims 3 pets is the most complete pet pack, the sims 4 just chopped a full pet pack into different smaller DLCs (cats and dogs, my first pet, cottage living and horse ranch)
im not sure if controlling pets is a plus, because pets in the sims 3 have many downsides compared to the sims 2, really mostly their AI its really worse/inferior, they are less autonomous, they don't do much stuff alone, they never leave you lot never run away, mostly just cares for their needs, in that sense its bad, the pets in the sims 4 are much improved in the AI aspect and they can walk frelly over surfaces more than one cat can be in bed at same time and so on, so im not sure if its worth to trade off all this for just controlling then.
the sims 3 have the worse pets in my opnion, if theres one thing the sims 4 does better is vampires/werewolfes and pets.

Sims 3 wasn't without issues. The first mod I downloaded (of many) was to solve an overagressive story progression not checking if a Sim was a minor before killing them off-screen.
Now that's less of a problem. It's old enough that they worked out most of the game-breaking glitches. And since the game no longer updates, the majority of mods are stable too.

Yes but one has to admit that Nraas Mods are really good. Overwatch, Master Controller, Errortrap, Debug Enabler and Story Progression are part of those mods I use a lot for my The Sims 3 games.
I'll say it again and again: The Sims 4 is only good for building, and even that is often hard to match all the colors, etc without CC.
Oh does this piss me off. When I tell you I spent 30 min moving around some furniture in different lighting because for some damn reason, the sofa and loveseat from a single set just *slightly* don't match in one of the colours, and it's just noticeable enough to look weird indoors. Can it really be so hard to bring back the colour wheel at least :'( I don't really need to change the entire fabric of things all the time, but the limited colours they offer often seem like they deliberately picked the worst possible choices

@@chloedsmith I hear ya. That's one thing I love about TS3. I can create a bedroom and coordinating bathroom using the same 4 colors. I did that in a chateau I built that's loosely based on Chateau du Landgraab.
the sims 3 is on sale rn and i got the game + all the dlc (using the sims 3 collection bundle on steam) for around 82 dollars. the fact that you have to spend 700 dollars to get all packs for the sims 4 even when it's on sale is crazy.

I mean, no joke, but the Sims subreddit has been loaded with people going back to TS3 after the last TS4 pack, myself included. It seems like the Sims community finally got shown what EA thinks of us with this last one and it's hard not to finally see what we lost. I know I've been a TS4 apologist for as long as the game has been out. Well, not anymore.
Now if only I could get TS3 to run worth a damn, sh*t that game still takes a while to load and has an embarrassing frame rate.
I've reallyyyy been thinking about reinstallning TS3 and using all of those guides I see on Twitter to run it better. They're supposed to announce the next pack for TS4 in the coming weeks but the whole game is testing my patience. This video definitely reminded me of everything I miss about the old games :(

Yes! and sims that dislike children will grumble when they walk past them also grumpy sims and loners do the same if there are other sims around. Its the details that really make something come to life. Sims 4 could never.

The eating! In sims 4 the sims always find someone else to talk to while they eat, so the eating becomes even slower. Then they go eat by the pool when dining chairs exist.
This really reminds me of how shocked I was when I discovered that Sims4 isn't a fully "open-world" anymore like its predecessor and downgraded into a somewhat "half-open" kind of world instead by having a seperate maps for different region / city, just like how it goes with Sims2.
I really missed the ability to randomly roam around the city with cars or other vehicles in Sims3.
I can't agree more. Sims 3 had so much more soul to it. You actually had a reason to play. Honestly, I can build in TS4, but actually playing it? No. I have no desire. And game packs that rarely have re-play value don't do it for me, either.

So true. I recently went back to 3 and there is so much to do and play with in this game. Almost every little thing you see in the world is interactive. I revisited the world I made before TS4 launched and started building in it again. Build mode is more complex, but at the same time I love the customization and in general it's more fun to build knowing that those fleshed out Sims are going to live in my build and use the many objects I didn't even know we had. I made a house for an old Lady because I'm tired of only playing young adults and she is so fun and different from elders in 4. She has a cockatoo bird, and chicks too, makes jam and sings karaoke in her free time. She always bikes to the grocery store and is friends with the young children that live next to her. Sometimes she takes her dog around the block for a walk just to see what her neighbors are doing and if someone got pregnant or started a new hobby. I send her to vacation a few hours ago and now she is making wine in a basement in Sims France. There is so much more happening in this game and I don't have to imagine things happening instead 😂😂

Sims 3 will always have an special place in my heart! I LOVE being able to ride horses and stuff. Plus, fairies and werewolves!!!
Also, expansions really do compliment each other, they don't feel separated at all.

I agree with this massively - one of my biggest frustrations with TS4 is that you can buy an expansion, explore all its features, then buy a new expansion and then it’s suddenly like all the features of the other expansion don’t matter or have any bearing on actions made in the new expansion. They don’t have deep lasting impressions on the gameplay, only surface level, and they don’t interact with one another.
I love how Late Night introduced Vampires, and Supernatural went "Okay, I know we already have vamps in Late Night, but we're reintroducing them here as well with different features AND if you have both packs then both versions will be combined so it has everything from both packs." It was also neat how Seasons allowed vamps with parasols equipped to stay in the sun for as long as they want.
I miss how traits would mean something and actually develop personality instead of being tutorials for playing the game. It was actually interesting getting to know a sims traits because there were more than like 10. One time my sim was trying to woo a guy only to keep being rebuffed despite their high friendship and I later learned that he was unflirty! It's things like that where a sims personality actually affected how I interacted with them. All sims in the sims 4 can be talked to and will react the exact same way.
I remember the first time I played sims 4. I was SO disapointed in that game that I went back to sims 3 almost immidiatly. I have a few save files still on sims 4 but its very rarely for me to keep playing it. Sims 3 is and always will be my cuo of tea for sure😎

@@theescargotconsumer lol, all the sims games have actual emotions - in Sims 3 my sim gets excited when he catches a fish, happy when he sits to eat his favorite meal, angry or upset if he sees his wife cheating on him. Sims 4 just dumbs things down by telling the player explicitly what emotion their sim is feeling; in the other games you have to pay attention!
The ability to make insane amount of family generations in sims 3 got me playing it. And the fact that sims there actually has a "mind" of their own and do what they want to do. I just love seeing that. Truly an open-world life simulation game
The biggest thing I miss from Sims 3 is the colour wheel. I used to love building houses, but in 4 I really don’t. I struggle to find items that match.
That and having a car I really miss, my favourite moment in sims 3 was my sim restoring that muscle car with his daughter then teaching her to drive in that car.
That and sims 3 gave you much more lots with new expansions etc.

Yes. If they added that alone to Sims 4 it would just be a lot less frustrating. I don't mind the lack of patterns for the most part, but no color wheel really hurts.
I love the Sims 3 and I believe it is the best sims yet, the endless customization options for furniture, clothes, textures, the big open worlds full of places to visit and build, the variety of well made expansion packs from this era, the more realistic-style graphics, etc., make this game by far superior than The Sims 4. I am a fan of the series and I´ve felt really disappointed of the Sims 4 since its release, it is very limited and boring to play, it almost feels like one of that mobile versions of The Sims compared to The Sims 3, which is the Sims version I still play today and plan to continue with until EA releases a new version AT LEAST as good as The Sims 3.
In the Sims 3, I can stare at the ghosts in the cemetary move around at night and Sims doing their own thing while my own sims are sleeping or at work, and I LOVE that, the Sims 4 never had anything like that.

This made me miss Sims 3 so much :(( I'm one of those few people that actually prefere Sims 3 to Sims 2 because Sims 2 is just too overdramatic for me and Sims 3 is the perfect middle ground between full-on-drama and lifeless humans
The travel thing took me so long to adjust to. I don’t even travel when playing sometimes anymore which makes it boring. No one feels like sitting in a loading screen for two minutes every time they travel. I loved being able to roam the city while my sims did stuff or being able to go to my kids schools and watch as they walked out. I also remember in University when you could sit in class with your sim. The main thing I do in sims 4 is create sims now
I can manage a full family of 8 in TS3. The kids can be at school, one is at the library, one is practising their hobby, and I can keep tabs and control what's happening with each of them in real time (well, Sims time), without having to go through a sodding loading screen for each one because they happen to be in different places.
Why did they have to regress the game so much? It's almost like Sims 1 again.

@@willemverheij3412 I actually don't mind the fences. It is annoying that there aren't many direct matches though. But at least you can do more complicated stairwells now! With sims 3 i think you can only do straight stairs in the vanilla game
@@tee227 well, you can do very complex staircases in sims 3 too, you just need to use the constrainfloorelevation cheat, which already gave me flashbacks to sleepless nights spent on trying to figure out how to make a split-level home. It's not particularly intuitive, but it's extremely powerful.
something i like about the older sims games, especially the sims 3, is that it feels harder. you actually have to work to get to your goal or to fix your relationship after you cheated, meanwhile in the sims 4, you can easily fix things in just a few steps.
Sims 3 is amazing and the lag is just worth it. I've played it since I was a kid and I am just thoroughly looking forward till I can go home and play sims 3!

I really miss the story progression in the Sims 3, especially with the NRAAS mod. I remember when it first came out and I was hesitant.
Back in the Sims 2 days, I was the kind of player who played multiple families in the neighborhood. I was worried I would lose control.
But, once I experienced it for myself, I actually fell in love with it. I loved the pop-up telling me about what was going on and watching it happen if I was quick enough.

In the Sims 3 I play most of the whole town. I have generations of sims playing on basically the longest lifespan with shortening infants and tots a little. I have a whole story with a range of personalities and characters. When I bought Sims 4 I can't really do that and make the town as rich and detailed as I had in the Sims 3. So I still play the Sims 3 and love it. I do use NRAAS so I can customize their lives even more and can make my town bigger than the vanilla game allows.
I would love to see them go back to the open world to the level of sims 3 but it would be tough to transition as I have played this town 3 years now and am quite invested in it.
Sims 4 is only pretty to look at. It has became a chore to play. And I hate that.

I got bored with Sims 4 at around year 2 and went back to playing Sims 3. I still paid attention but officially stopped playing after the Parenthood pack and then I deleted it from my computer. I wasn’t able to play Sims 3 when I first got it but now that I have a slightly better laptop now, I have fallen in love with it again. I feel like this game trumps sims 4 on every level just because the gameplay matters...especially with story progression mods. I also prefer the animation style but that’s definitely subjective! I’d love an updated Sims 3 style.
Yeah me too, it's a fantastic game. I remember when it came out back just before I started high school. I loved it back then and love it today. Every save is unique with loads to do, I literally still find new stuff even having put 1k+ hours on it.

I often catch myself thinking I'd just like my sims to brush their teeth without becoming confident. Sometimes it's not the optimal mood, sometimes I hate the walkstyle. And I just wanna raise their hygiene without having them to wash hands 2-3 times in a row 🙄

The wishes - yaaaaaaaas. Omg I feel like it's really the thing I miss the most along with more traits. As a kid I only picked the "good" traits for my sims and yet it still felt more meaningful. But wishes! Wishes were everything. I was sympathizing with my sims, seeing a wish that's important to their lifelong goal and being like "oh yeah, you totally should do that". Sometimes feeling guilty when I haven't fulfilled it for a long time and they already have other important wishes coming up 😅😂
I just liked how the game would lead me and I felt like I was interacting with my sims, without having to ALWAYS make up all the stories for them in my mind. It was so good. I remember coming into the sims 4 for the first time and being like "wait, where are the wishes? 😢😞". And the more I play the sims 4 the more I understand how much depth they really brought. And whims are not even close! They're tiny and they just feel so random, and they're often disabled. Maybe I should go back to the Sims 3 afterall. I miss it quite a lot now.
In TS3 it's funny when they woohoo off their home lot and get this confident bouncy walk for like 2hrs lol XD All happy because they got some lmfao!!!
The moodlets just made so much more sense in TS3. Like, I don't feel confident after I brush my teeth, I feel like my teeth are clean and that they have the minty taste.
Maybe emotions would have worked if there were more of them or if they were more refined but they're so stupidly overpowered and nonsensical.

But on a more serious note, emotions are far too easy to cheese. Memorize what to do to get flirty (it's as easy as watching an episode of TV) in the morning and you'll be married by 5. Relationships are way too easy as well.

this video makes me smile . :^) you're spot-on with everything here, especially with the levels of difficulty and depth of skill-building! The skill journal made me OBSESSED with the photography skill in Sims 3 because it was more than just "reaching the next level", it was also about making your Sim get out of the house to try to capture these specific moments with their camera like "Lovers Kissing in France", and the more you achieved, the more simoleons your photographs would be worth so you could do it freelance! The goals for it even included things from other packs you'd installed, like you could seek out photographing a "Zombie Attack!" from Supernatural. Ugh, it's so rad I could talk about it for hours. And collecting things around the town and sending them off to be analyzed by the Science Facility is another obsession of mine, I miss it in Sims 4 !

Im a new simmer and I started with Sims 4. Bought a ton of packs but figured it out kinda fast. Then I found out about sims 3. I thought it was gonna be bad because usually newer is better. Its now my favorite. It not too easy and theres so many details that make it enjoyable. And the open world is great for playing big households.
I redownloaded Sims 3 yesterday and bought some packs on origin never got to play in my childhood-
I felt the difference from the very beginning, as soon as my sim actually took a taxi to the library and I could indeed follow her from her front door to the library steps.
I played that game unimaginable hours yet i still have so much more to do. In sims 4 i feel like I’ve done basically everything in 2 years

the best memory i have of the Sims was when i had a family with twins in TS3, and the husband ended up cheating so the wife took one of the twins and left. then the twins had a birthday party at the community pool and one ended up drowning. TS4 has NEVER given me that much of a juicy storyline

On the "Do as their told" note, in Sims 3 you can toggle level of autonomy for your sims. Never plays sims 4 and never will, but Sims 3 lets you decide if you want a 100% obedient sim versus a "eh let's see what they do on their own," sim.
TS4 says it can do the same thing, but I can turn off autonomy as much as I like and the sims will still run all over the place instead of sitting down to dinner and just staying put for once lol.
for sims 3 full autonomy sims still listen just as well though
unless they're absent minded or the action is illegal due to moodlets/stats sims will always follow your orders. However the higher the autonomy scale, the more likely the sims are to take care of their own needs and ai desires based on traits. Basically the higher the autonomy the more stuff they'll do. Very low autonomy will typically only feed themselves, while slightly higher will actually go to the bathroom/clean themselves. medium-ish will go to work/school on time (within reason), high and full being almost fully capable of playing the game themselves within the bounds of their traits (aside for changes only the player can do).

Sims 3 lets you select how much autonomy they have (full autonomy, low autonomy, no autonomy) and they obey, whereas in sims 4 you either have full autonomy or no autonomy, and even when you have no autonomy, sims in sims 4 still do whatever they please lol its so frustrating
sims 2 had the best eating. if they were alone they would eat like in ts3 but when sorrounded by others they would always sit next to each other and have quick chats in between bites, unlike ts4 where they would have intervals of 3 hours

They take way too long to eat though. It was the most annoying eating for me. I prefer 3 and 4.
TS1 quirkiness, TS2 wackiness, EVERYTHING IN TS3, and TS4 CAS and Build Mode in TS5. I can die like a happy man if that's the case.
Literally one of my main motivations to finish university is so I can get a job that makes good money and thus be able to buy an epic computer that can run The Sims 3 well!

Honestly, watching this makes me so sad. The sims 4 could have been so great but instead we‘ve got ...this. TS3 reigns supreme in almost every single aspect! Parents talking their babies out in a stroller, repercussion system so that your actions actually mattered, visiting a grave yard (!!) seeing your neighborhood progress etc. it was just the best game. I miss create a style so freaking much. You could basically make every item suitable in a room and didn‘t have to worry about limited swatches

It's pretty clear the sims 3 is an upgrade of the sims 4 .The sims 4 does not even have half the basic content that sims 3 has. Maxis should be ashamed .

@@Will-lo1zq that’s what I did! I got everything ever released for the sims 3 for free in just a couple of hours. If only I did that with the sims 4 which I haven’t touched in 2 years
Another few things I noticed is how much effort you have to put into getting to know the other sims! Firstly, there’s more traits and those traits make a significant difference. Second, you might use one “get to know” to get a trait revealed but then there’s a cool down for when you can do it again. Even if you manage to que it twice, you run the risk of the convo becoming boring to the other sim.
And sometimes they don’t even tell you a trait!
But I also love how my sim actually is “attracted” to some other sims. Like little hearts pop up when they first meet and you get an indefinite moodlet that says “attractive sim nearby.” It definitely points me in a direction on who to pursue romantic relationships with.
But then one of those attractive sims might drop me at the keg or I find out they’re a womanizer and my interest drops again! It’s so alive.
Sims doing what you want, in the order you want them to, can't underestimate how great that is.
Sims 3 is all around better. I really miss finding wild animals and keeping them as pets in the game. I'm passionate about wildlife rehabilitation so I do that in real life...but then let them go once they're old enough/healthy enough
There was one problem i had with Sims 3. Save corruption. Happened twice and on both was when i had much activities with them (family, going on vacation, exploring new worlds, new jobs, maxing out all skills etc.).
It happened during 2012 when i had so-so computer (which did sound like an airplane taking off).
Also my favorite experience in Sims 3 was Seasons. Making angels, snowman, snow fights and actual wardrobe at the door.
Plus the raining and umbrella (if you don't have then your Sim be soaked).
I remember washing machine, but that was optional. It was good to use and can delete it anytime you want after you're bored of collecting clothes and feeling fresh everytime you wash Sim clothes.
Personally i liked Seasons music in 2 and 3.
And then i remember making Sim robot which was rng. Wanted to get clored one, like the one they promoted in trailer but mostly got silver or rusty.
Time machine was nice touch.
And getting Alien vehicle was awesome (instead of driving there, it teleports you to that location).
I stopped buying expansions since from University was announced.
Always Save as and use save cleaner and the problem is solved

I love wishes. Sometimes I'm just chilling and my sim wants a child and I just give it to them. They really depend on personality, which really directs my gameplay a lot. Like I wouldn't buy more mirrors without a snob sim, but I do and befriend rich people because my snob sim wants it. Just like my sim loving the outdoors randomly wants to learn fishing or my unlucky sim actually wants to win at a game.i can tell personalities apart and they really direct gameplay thanks to wishes. Sims 4 whims are useless and the Sims all feel like the same person
i disabled whims on sims 4 because they're so stupid and generic. plus the rewards all suck. sims 3 for life

sims 3 just feels more nostalgic for me - it was the first sims games I ever bought on my own and played on my own. I got into it after I graduated secondary school and had some off time then, so I literally played it EVERY DAY for HOURS. it was so fun and it felt endless! i used to play the game with my Spotify playlist in the background and some songs still remind me of that fun carefree time I had with sims 3. I just loved everything in the sims 3, except for the lag ofc (my game would randomly crash at times) I specifically loved the University, Seasons and Generations pack. Everything about those three packs were so perfect and essential for me! The sims 4 versions of these are so lacklustre and boring. I miss the open world-ness of the sims 3 and how alive it really felt. Watching my sims walk or drive from their home to school or work was always so fun… I wish the sims 3 was made a little bit more in the future so the technology could support the excellent gameplay it originally has.
I cant understand why sims 4 have made death and tombstones so complicated, no mausoleum and constant culling, how hard can it be to put a tombstone where you can find it.
I know that pisses me off so much too. It's like they don't think we care about our dead Sims and it's quite sinister on EA's part imo. I've been playing Sims 3 again for awhile now and I don't regret it at all.
I placed all the tombstones on my property until the ghosts pissed me off by always breaking my toilet, shower and sink

I just finished playing Sims 3 before checking UA-cam, lol. Played it for about four hours. That's around 3 and 1/2 hours longer than I used to play Sims 4. I actually didn't play Sims 3 for that long when it actually came out, I went back to Sims 2 for a long time before trying Sims 4 last year, so I'm having fun exploring some of the things I didn't get to play in Sims 3 and it's been so much more fun than I've ever had in Sims 4.
You pointed out so many reasons I've been having more fun with Sims 3. My sim doesn't take five sim hours to eat a meal. They don't stand there between tasks for 8 hours. They don't go off and drink water, which seems to not be something I can ever cancel. There's actually stuff for my sim to do. I'm taking my sims through university (I'm not loving how University works in Sims 3, compared to Sims 2, but it's okay) and even though it's more simple than Sims 4, I'm having more fun. Also, I'm living for all the shade, lol. I remember looking through the beds when I first started playing Sims 3 again and there are BUNK BEDS. It makes NO SENSE that we can't have, at least, that in Sims 4. The gurus wonder why so many simmers are upset and going back to previous games, it's because, even as old and limited as some of the older games are (mostly looking at Sims 2, here), they are still MORE fun to play and have things Sims 4 can't give us. I knew Sims 4 was bad, which is why I didn't get it until it was free last year... yet, I'm still disappointed by it and the few packs I bought for it. I was done spending any money on it once I realized it was still so empty.
Sims 4 never had any potential. It sucked when it came out, it sucked more when they kept making scam packs with little content and lots of them. Sims 3 remains the most advanced game.

I like 3 more than 4 because the building in 3 was so much more in depth and customizable. Especially the roofs. God do I miss being able to build a nice roof.

Sims 4 threw me of the loop and ruined my play style. Going back to 3, I've forgotten how to play like, literally forget.
It's been years, but I think I'm gonna go back and create a sculptor sim.
I've tried everything in Sims 4, but there are still so much in Sims 3 I haven't done in-depth
the gossip feature in ts3 is iconic
A friend of mine really loves sims 2 still. Because the animations of everyday actions were so detailed. For example when the sims are cooking they don't spawn their utensils out of thin air. Instead they take them out of a drawer from the kitchen counter they are working at.
I really love sims 3. It is still my fave, because there was one big loading screen and then a whole neighborhood for you to explore. I recently changed back to sims 3 and don't regret it :)
Also the sims 3 genetics and actual labels of “step dad” and “half sister” etc etc.
On the sims 4 I had to edit the family to set the last name to everyone cause it didn’t automatically set it, like it should in the older sims games. 🤔
