Cycling 512 Miles through the Nevada Desert // 10

- Seven months since we set off from Alaska, we find ourselves in the dusty desert valleys of Northern Nevada. It’s a part of the country I’ve always wanted to properly explore and we definitely weren’t disappointed. Huge, expansive desert valleys extending as far as the eye can see, with nothing but a lonely dirt road cutting through right through the middle. I'm a bit desert obsessed and to me it felt a bit like bikepacking heaven!

Thanks to MLD for my beautiful new panniers: mountainlaurel...
I've been loving them, they were designed around the Tumbleweed racks so the fit is rock solid, and they're super light so I barely even notice them while riding!
I edited and published this video from Chihuahua, Mexico - slowly but surely catching up!

About
In July 2022, we set off from the very top of Alaska on our bicycles, with the aim of spending the next few years cycling all the way down to the southern tip of Argentina - the entire length of the Americas. We are definitely not in any rush, and often opt to take the scenic, more remote routes where possible. Neither of us are cycle touring or bikepacking experts, but we are figuring all of that stuff out as we go. If you would like to follow along, please consider subscribing!

Great respect to Daniel from Tumbleweed. Wow! Did he came down all the way from Idaho to bring a Rohloff equipped bike? Wish him and his wife all the best in their business. And of course best video so far. Love the desert. Thanks to both of you.
He originally offered to drive much further to meet us on the Oregon coast! We thought the Tumbleweed meeting would be much more appropriate in the desert though haha. Really great people and we are so fortunate and proud to be representing them
i knew a tumbleweed in berkeley who lived next to me on hearst st
next bike is yours no more trek or speclized

I love Victoria, she always stay positive with her huge smile no matter how hard the obstacles ahead .... you are AMAZING Victoria ✊✊✊
I love you Victoria! You are not crazy. You are amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
No, they are both crazy... and that's why we love them!
That part made me tear up fr 😂
Victoria if I was in your shoes my melt down would be huge too. Your doing great
I've been a fu-king idiot on several occasions myself !
when I go hiking I ask myself the same question😂
I have to say, i have really fallen in love with Victoria throughout these videos. She always has such a positive character and its so refreshing. I don't know really how to word it but to me, she just embodies what it truly is to be a woman. She just has such a strong and powerful feminine energy. It's so inspiring to watch her push through all of her hard moments and still be so positive and funny. You guys made such a great team and i absolutely love your videos.
Me too.. i am falling hard for her.. lil bit sad cause she is not continuing the journey to argentina..😢
At the end, you really should re-edit all hours together and submit to film festival somewhere. It is absolutely enthralling. Congratulations to Victoria for her courage and determination. I am glad to read you are staying in one place during the heat.
thats a good idea! I'm keeping all the footage safe so I would love to be able to do something like that one day
Thank you for making us part of your journey (at least, feel like it). 30 minutes just flew by and can't wait for the next upload. Wish you health wherever you are =)
Thank you so much for watching, and the kind words! Writing this from Chihuahua, Mexico :)
Tumbleweed is such a grassroots company. Their bikes seem amazing. If I ever do a journey like this, I hope to get one of their bikes.
100%
When Victoria had such a huge smile struggling through the mud, I thought nothing could bring her down. But clearly, she's actually human, too. That looked like a brutal slog. I hope that you're having more happy days than hard days on this adventure.
Great job pushing through girl you are so mentally strong watching you push through pain and headwinds is inspiring :)
Stunning. You have captured the essence and feeling of the high desert in winter. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it and much appreciated!
What an awesome episode! We appreciate your sharing the challenges as well as the successes of your journey. 💪
Thanks so much guys! I'm very excited to get started on the camel footage for the next one! haha
Victoria is next level, so funny and positive!!! 🫶 thanks for sharing! 🙏🏻
Growing up in Nevada for 12 years, living in Jarbridge, Mt. City, Ely and Austin. Dad was a Forest Ranger. Moving to Moab people thought we came from the desert. Never thought of Nevada as a desert but Utah, that is a desert. The thing is, in Nevada you have North to South mountain ranges about 30 miles apart. There are canyons with creeks and trout. There are pinion pines with lots of pine nuts. There were Aspen, Spruce, Birch, Willow, berries and there are deer everywhere. Lots of sledding in the hills as well as ice skating in the numerous shallow lakes in the valleys. In Austin at winter time we would hook up to the back end of the Hiskey Stage Truck. He would pull us to the summit and we could slide back home. Often at night with moonlight. Our playhouses were old mines and mills or deserted houses. You never had to carry a canteen or food for your horse and you were always a welcome guest at the ranches and mining camps.
Iguana
I love Victoria. Her drive to complete this ride is admirable and her accent is so sweet. I love watching her videos too. Keep going girl, you’ve got this!
What you are going through in this episode is EXACTLY why I love and cherish every chance I get to bike pack. There are insane obstacle that must be overcome, and many of them are emotional and in your mind. You know how much water you have, you know how much food, and therefore you know exactly where you need to get to to make it work - yet your body, and spirit are broken and your mind has a moment of clarity and you just focus on the next checkpoint and you get there. To me it's the closest we are ever going to come to traversing the world the way pioneers did, and just roll out into what ever may come - and when I finally get to my destination and look at the totally of it I feel accomplished and humbled.
That flashback of Victoria’s old bike was kind of a tear jerker 😂. Great video & thanks for sharing!
What an experience. At 66 I can feel my hips ache from pedaling. What physical endurance. Incredible! Great video! Thanks so much!
Try getting a bike fit, it can do miracles
I know it was hard riding for you - but this is the best episode so far, can't wait for the next ones! 👍👍👍
The creature at 13:43 is not a spider or a scorpion or a cross. It’s a Jerusalem cricket! They are completely harmless burrowing crickets.
I've got one tattooed to my hand 😊
Thanks
Thanks so much!
Wow, great episode! As a cyclist myself, I was wondering how you two get those fully loaded bikes up mountains. And then I saw the mud! And that headwind! Really admire your tenacity and grit. Chapeau to you both!
Haha there is always a price to pay to earn those beautiful views! Cheers Steve!
Wow! Awesome! Tumbleweed rocks! I've got my eye on that Prospector.
You guys are amazing. Headwinds can feel so heavy! You are doing it!!!! Proud of you!!!
So cool Tumbleweed gave you new bikes and gear! I know they benefit at the mention, but thats such a game changer in the middle of ride. All the best guys. So inspiring.
love practical aspect of this compilation; i mean 2 days of water, three days of food, light gears, enjoying little things...
Such a good video! I think this has become my favorite! Great storytelling, and the way you captured the landscapes, well, I felt like I could feel them myself. So glad to see Victoria has her own Prospector. You both and Tumbleweed make a great team. Stay safe! .... Ciao!
Thank you so much Steve! Really appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed it - I think it was my favourite section yet!
Greg & Victoria - I've been following along from the start & finally had to say something. Incredible adventures - such an inspiration. I must say your last few episodes have really hit me in the right spot - inspiring me to dream up my next adventure! I wish you safe journeys and fair weather!
Great stuff. I've driven that stretch of the Nevada desert. It's some of the most remote stretches of road in the lower 48 States. No services for hundreds of miles at a time. I was nervous to do it by car alone and you guys traveled by bicycle.😮 Big respect. The bikes look great. 👍🏼 Keep going and stay safe! 🤙🏼
Cheers Sam!
I’m so glad UA-cam recommended the first episode to me when it came out. I’ve been hooked ever since. The editing is great and the music fits perfectly as well!
Two Tumbleweeds Cycling. The mounts match the personalities without question. Great episode and thank you for sharing (again)!
Thanks Mark!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I really appreciate how much you both have shared your moments of doubt and pain along the way - - often our stories of travels that we tell or see of others are only the triumphant moments, but there are so many low moments too - and they only make the good ones that much sweeter.
I KNEW there is a reason I have been an REI member since 1967. They have helped me out over the years and now I find they were destined to help you guys out with that failed tent. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.
we were so impressed! I'll always make big purchases from them from now on when I get the chance
Nevada is an amazing place. Thanks for the beautiful video! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your journey, all of it.
The adventure they are doing is incredible. They will never forget her.
I agree. My worry is, what will he want to do next? lol!
I'm worried about that too! haha
Great video Greg and Victoria. Keep it up. That’s so nice of Daniel from Tumbleweed. 👍🙏🏼
Victoria! Orgullosa de ti como mujer. Disfruta la libertad y dale duro!
Animo Greg & Victoria, muchas gracias por hacer esta aventura!
Safe travels.
what a crazy adventure of a lifetime!
Tumbleweeds are awesome! Gr8 adventure, you two!
Great video! After spending over 30 years in private industry as a geologist, I worked as the Fluid Minerals Program Manager for the Nevada Division of Minerals for 12 1/2 years (retired a bit over two years ago), where I was the Nevada state regulator for oil, gas, geothermal, and lithium brines. Through that time, I traveled on all of the roads you showed in the video, as well as throughout Nevada. Nevada has some incredible scenery, especially when you are on the gravel/dirt back-roads that transect the state.
Tumbleweed…. You guys just have a costumer. My next purchase x2(wife) belongs to you guys. Well done. Thank you for supporting this guys.🙏
I absolutely love your Videos! Keep going! ....and this new bike...❤
Gotta love the Nevada desert. Kudos to you two for enduring such harsh weather and thanks for the epic videos!
Really enjoying your journey. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Awesome of Daniel of Tumbleweed. A Prospector will be my next bike purchase.
Hello Greg, first of all Happy B-day!!! Ok, once again, thank you very, very, very much for your videos. It's awesome to see both of you enjoying this great adventure. The shots are totally awesome, from the snowy towns, up to the jets. Tell Victoria that she might be a little crazy, but she is awesome as well, Thank You BOTH. Keep having fun and stay safe. Greetings from Mexico. Hugs and Kisses to both of you!!!
Such a lovely comment, thanks so much and I'm very happy you are enjoying the videos!
You go Victoria 😊,
Thanks for your awesome video...
We live in Santa Cruz, Bolivia👫, come and visit...
Awesome...❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this journey.
can't wait for next episode! Fantastic!
Wow, amazing sponsorship, truly standing behind his product.
One more thing...Kudos to Tumbleweed bikes for their support of you two! I am sure they are worth every penny!
Great episode, I liked it a lot! And a good music choice as well.
I am enjoying your adventures and always checking to see if you uploaded a video. Great respect for you both. Victoria is a trooper.
Thank you! She sure is
Thank you for recording during the headwind. I know how easy it is not to record that❕
Damnzzzzzz that peanut butter mud headwind combo looked devastating for moral! Good job guys
definitely the toughest days of the trip so far!
this was probably my favorite episode yet--you're both incredible!! the clip of Victoria with her bike stuck in the mud made me tear up from laughing. the desert is truly a magical place
You guys are BAD ASS!! AMAZING!
Awesome of Daniel from Tumbleweed to support this, great stuff.
The desert in winter looks stunning! Great episode again. Also that mud... I encountered something like that once, in Morocco, where we hiked through it for a few kilometers and every few meters I'd have at least a kilo of mud hanging off each shoe. Maddening. I'm impressed to see you guys pushing those heavily loaded bikes through it!
thanks for making it q nice round number. very satisfying.
Seeing a new episode notification always makes my day! Best one thus far
cheers Spencer!
Very nicely done video! Thanks for posting; be careful out there….l
These videos just get better and better, love the vibes! Looking forward to the rest of the journey
Stunning!
I totally get what you are doing and why you're doing it. I get the draw of big empty spaces. Your video does it poetic justice. best of luck!
I'm so pleased to learn about Tumbleweed!
Beautiful scenery. Awesome Video ❤
Awesome guys.... Carry On !
This has to be my favorite episode so far. Absolutely beautiful and very inspiring
So impressed and jealous of your tenacity, your dedication, your love and attitudes. The quality of your videos are top notch! Thank you so much for sharing.

So impressed guys, thankyou so much
Love your guys videos. So relaxing to watch.
Your videos just get better keep it up and thank you for bringing us along.Rubber side down.
cheers!
Thank you for showing your travels of places many of us will never personally go to in a lifetime. Thank you for showing the truths of your experiences along the way, both good times and the times which require getting through the struggles. It is nothing less than inspirational.
Thank you for the lovely comment! Glad you enjoyed it
13:49 Jerusalem cricket! Awesome content!
Great vids
very cool! thanks for letting me know
Lovely video, not all sunshine but you'll never forget it.
Another fantastic episode! Love how your growing as a filmmaker and I especially enjoyed the longer format.
Yes, keep ‘em long. We are here for the landscapes.
Thank you Tumbleweed bikes ❤
Awesome guys, inspiring
It‘s so much fun watching your videos. I really enjoyed that episode. It is always special to see someone crossing a route I once took. I cycled route 50 west to east through Nevada, but I didn’t recognize anything from the short intersect of routes. In case you ever make it to Europe I‘d be honored to host you or ride with you.
thats awesome! must have been a beautiful ride. You passed the same bombing range but maybe they weren't bombing that day 😅. And thank you!
Wow, that's service!!! Good luck to you man!! Safe Travels too!
"Nevada" made its presence in this part of the journey as well, beautiful videos
Such an incredible video yet again. Editing, story arc, balance of action shots and narration are all great! Also you did such an incredible job to find these dirt trail roads through Nevada, your route planning is so good!
Also, the moment of vulnerability from Victoria was lovely and important to see. Even the most positive people have shit days
thanks so much! always appreciate your lovely comments
and I always appreciate your lovely replies too hehe :)
I've loved every video, but this one is my favorite one yet. It really made me want to get back on trail (I'm more of a backpacker than a biker) for a long thru-hike. Seeing you both push through that really tough headwind--especially on a tough period day, well done Victoria--was really inspirational. Thanks for sharing your journey!
victoria, you're so so strong. love you
Fantastic episode !!!!
Respect to you both 👍
Hi Victoria and Daniel, it was very beautiful watching you two diving through Nevada Desert with bike, I wish you two the best and God bless you all. ❤❤
I was on Brauning Man this year is it so nice to to see you there WITH SNOW :) grethings from Poland. Go on!!!
Great advice from Victoria at 4:22 😅😅👌🏾
Wow, that was tough. Your resilience is invigorating. Sometimes I'm jealous of your journey and sometimes I'm not. The snow is not something I would enjoy. Well done Victoria for not giving up. You're a tough cookie. Great scenery. Thank you Greg.
Thanks Robert! So glad you liked it - riding in conditions like that is definitely not for everyone but she is as hardcore as it gets
This video reminds me of Ecclesiastes, when he says; “when to lay down together they can keep warm“
Don’t freeze you guys♥️
Victoria, great respect for you! You are a strong woman! Period! 😊
You two are amazing ❤
Oh man I feelfor you guys in that mud. How dreadful! Glad it snowed.
I didn't think we'd ever be happy for an overnight snowstorm!
Great episode! I will consider Tumbleweed when I purchase my adventure bike to ride from Deadhorse to my hometown in Honduras, Daniel looks like a genuine guy and the Prospector seems bombproof.
that sounds like it will be an incredible trip!
Love the raw emotion. Type II fun. Finding the inner self that wrestles with what you want to achieve and removing obstacles in the path.
Thanks for showing your experiences.
I love your videos!!!
1st post here. You guys seem the epitome of happy campers. Save travels! Cheers from Brazil! 🚲🚲💚💚💛💛
