    Great video! I think it was pretty strait forward. I appreciate all of your videos. They are practical and are filled with a lot of useful information. I suppose the only thing I could possibly suggest to add for this one would be a basic drawing or schematic along with a parts list. After watching this, I will definitely add an additional battery and clone your system. I'm kind of surprised that Honda hasn't offered it as an upgrade option at this stage of the game. Thanks for doing what you do!

    Thank you so much “Excellent Excellent” I recently purchased a new Textron Stampede with a Hunters package. I did not really want or need all the Bells & Whistles, however, the Dealer offered a deal I could not say “NO TO”
    It came with a Warn 4,500 lb. winch, a full width hood LED Light bar, and LED lights in the front fender. I had the dealer install a
    Turn signal kit & License plate light. I then installed (myself) a 72” plow and an electric powered actuator to control the angel of the snow plow from within the Cab. (Extremely Pleased with that feature”
    The first evening I was out plowing snow using the winch and the roof LED, the battery light came on. I contacted dealership, your video helped me convince the dealership to work with me on installing a second battery with the “Isolator”
    Again, thank you!

    I installed a second battery about a month or so ago in my TALON X4. It was a matter of necessity since I ended up with a dead main battery because of stupidity on my part. I have a 2-way GMRS radio installed and it WAS wired to the main battery. I am a member of a radio club that does a weekly chat on the 2-way's, and after the chat I went inside and forgot to turn off the radio.... 2 days later I went out to discover a dead battery, and it WOULD NOT take a charge! Right after that, I ordered a new battery, and proceeded to getting all the bits for an AUX battery installation. I now have everything that isn't factory original equipment running off the AUX. battery. I also built an electronic timer that will kill all the other things after a preset time and not drain the battery. Works great, glad I did it, no more worries.

    In a modern ATV or UTV a separate battery for the engine management & ignition is a really good idea, especially if you run a bunch of external accessories like winches, coolers, floodlight illumination or AC power inverters. In some cases, if your battery keeps dipping when you are dragging it down say when winching a big moose out of a swamp you can crash or damage your vehicle system electronics.

    Good video. This is not a matter of opinion …your are speaking facts. I’m a car audio tech, and I do work on side by sides, boats, cars , trucks etc . The fact of the matter is your vehicle comes factory with a battery and it’s factory accessories. The battery your vehicle comes with is only meant to power factory accessories with some room for a few extras that draw low current like a few led lights etc. but not meant for led lights all over plus winches, radios, amplifiers an so on. If your adding an a bunch of extra accessories you absolutely need a second battery.. it wouldn’t be a bad idea to upgrade the factory battery either. It’s very simple to figure out by using ohms law…current, voltage and resistance, do the math.

    If you divide the light wattage vs the input voltage, you will get the maximum amperage. E.g.-300 watt light/12 volts =25amps.

    When your ignition is in off position, is your solenoid also off? I have my sound system wired directly to my stock battery per manufacturers recommendation and is has to be powered up every time I ride.

      I used a fuse tap from the "ACC" port on the fuse box, one similar to this. www.amazon.com/Mini-Fuse-Circuit-Adapter-Terminals/dp/B00AK0TGRS
      Any auto parts store should have them. I then just zip tied down the lid as it will not clip on due to the tap.

    What are the pro's and con's on simply installing a larger battery than my current one, instead of a dual battery setup? thanks brother

    • @DirtNDiesel
      @DirtNDiesel  3 роки тому +3

      The pro is only one battery, and many people have done it by installing it under the drivers seat, the con is any issues you may have that are "power" related you will not be able to isolate without disconnecting each accessory. I installed the second battery because the trans is very voltage sensitive. With the second battery it cost more, but anything I add does not put a load on the factory battery, and if I have an issue the dealer could not say anything.

    I just use 2 batteries
    No isolation. I monitor the voltage during operation. Havent had any issues but now I'm noticing that there is a problem while in operation my power steering and my sound amp fail . Voltage during operation shot upwards around 18 v. There is an intermittent with the regulator I'm assuming at this point. The reason that I do not use isolation is due to the fact that I need the winch to have both batteries for max amps needed to pull . 1 battery just isnt enough. Do you think a car battery would work better or any other opinions ...I'm all ears. About to replace the voltage regulator

    • @DirtNDiesel
      @DirtNDiesel  4 роки тому

      I have heard of people putting a full size battery under the driver seat and running bigger wires to it for the acc. There is lots of room under there if you don't have the OEM storage, and you could buy a generic battery mount from Jegs (or a similar place) for the mount.

Will add a solar trickle charger or recharge via battery charger when in the garage. No need to risk potential electrical gremlins by running colour changing whips or other aesthetic gizmos.
