A lovely video that really captures the majesty of the HRP. I did it over 9 weeks in 2003 and was blessed with a hot and sunny summer, which was great in the high mountains but tough near the end! Your video brought back lots of memories and I think the multiple short clips give a sense of how long and relentless it is. Well done on completing the route, and in only 34 days! That is quite an achievement!
Thanks so much for the kind words🙏🏼 We were very lucky with the weather we had and the two stormier periods we just waited out in towns. There are also longer vlog-version videos of the trail if the short 'Best Of' video made you nostalgic😘
Super thanks for the video and well done on the crossing! Can you give me some feedback on your shoes? They look like Altra ... are they holding up? Thanks
Awesome video, really. This has been on my bucket list for a while. Maybe next summer... Would you recommend doing it from East to West? I'd love the idea of finishing in front of the ocean.
I just watched your stunning video series about the hrp. I plan to walk this route this year from east to west. How did you manage to charge your Devices? And which devices did you use for your footage?
Hey! Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏼 We charged in cafes when we ate in towns and for a few nights we stayed in actual campsites during storms. Usually cafes have no problem with you charging as long as you spend money there. We used our iPhones and a Zhiyun gimbal for this movie 😉
Great video! What were the dates of your trip, and where did you hit those snow covered passes? A friend and I are planning on hiking the middle of the HRP from July 25 - Aug 9, and I’m wondering how much alpine gear we need to bring.
Hey! We hiked from start of August until 4th of September. The places with snow were few - right at the highest point of the trail, on the section before Benasque. You might have a bit more as you start earlier but it hasn't been an extreme snow year or anything.
We had no time limit, we just enjoyed the flow and could keep that pace. If you enjoy doing lots of miles per day then I don't think you will feel rushed. We did some extra rest days due to weather so we could have done it a day or two faster, too, I think. But yeah it all depends on your style & fitness - just make sure you enjoy!
Hello, i am a 16 year old who has been discovering les hautes pyrenees since the age of 7 i have been there every vacation i had. Do you think i could do this walk solo? I have done most hard peaks in les hautes pyrenees (cylindre de marbore, vignemal, monte perdito etc).
Awesome vid! Planning on doing this hike this year. What time did you start? And also, was the Candanchu store open for a resupply? Still figuring out if I want to skip Lescun.
Thanks! We started in the beginning of August. The store was open - it's really small but has just enough for a resupply if you're not too picky (and next resupply is not too far if you walk fast). The other option was to take a bus down to the next town for a larger supermarket but that's pretty much a whole day spent.
this is fantastic. i want to try this this summer. im fit and strong but have little navigating experience. are there apps with gps tracking i can follow with a phone? If so do you recommend any?
Hey! When you purchase the Cicerone guidebook for the HRP you get the full set of gpx tracks. We used the Gaia GPS app and also loaded them on our Garmin Fenix watches as a backup :)
We used different free phone apps that include the HRP trail and we bought the Cicerone guidebook, where pretty much every turn is very well described and it comes with the GPX file included, which I downloaded onto my GPS watch and followed all the time. If you've got these, it's quite hard to get lost - I'd say overall there were maybe 2 places where you could make an error but if you follow common sense (i.e. you know you need to get lower to catch a road) then you can often freestyle and still get to the same destination :)
It's not marked in the nature as a separate route - it often crosses other routes, such as GR10 or 11 or shorter local trails, so you will definitely need to rely on the guidebook/map apps and not on trail markers.
Thank you for those nice images - I will follow your steps in August 2023
So beautiful places and views, so wonderful hike 🎉 wish to visit mountains in my dreams!)

I think both directions are great :)
Beatiful video. Vers inspirering! Hat tent did you bring?
Thanks! We had the Zpacks Duplex tent.
Hey, thanks for the inspiration!
Did you use a gpx file for navigation?
Or can I view your route somewhere?
How many days did you need?
Hey!
We used the gpx file that comes with the Cicerone guidebook for the Haute Route de Pyrenees 🤗
We used in total 34 days including 4 rest days.
Motivation, check!

Hey! If you have enough hiking experience, good fitness, lots of common sense and luck with the weather I see no reason why you could not 🤗

@@Thecornishhiker you can turn on or off the beep it makes when you go to far off the trail so it'll let you know when you've strayed ☺️
i have zero navigating experience . does that matter? is it easy to follow the route?
