Hi Nancy! In order to vary the widths and get thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes, you have to vary the pressure. So we are using more pressure on the thick strokes, and less on the thin strokes. This is true regardless of pen size. Does that help?

Would you explain how you get the wider portions of the letter without changing pens?
