Like Zuko said in The Day of Black Sun Part 2, taking down Ozai is the Avatar's destiny Kidnapping Ozai and delivering him to Aang wouldn't be the same, it would make the Avatar's job too easy. And it just wouldn't be the right ending compared to the epic battle we ended up with, as cool as a Toph and Zuko vs Ozai battle would be.
I feel like Toph could easily sense Azula's change in movement with the lightning. Toph can still sense footsteps on the ground without being able to lie detect.
Also the birds in the trees that look like their kissing when Toph and Zuko walk along the beach, are reminiscent of themselves. This is so because one bird has a black patch on one eye and the other doesn't. And the birds are seen side by side above Toph and Zuko who happen to be side by side. This is canon in my heart!
I like the 2nd theory about Zuko and Toph vs. Azula and Katara, Sokka, Suki. I believe Toph can predict the aim of Azula’s lightning. But, I love how Zuko and Toph had a life changing conversation instead of a field trip.

I believe that Toph would be able to anticipate Azula, mostly because at this point in time, Azula had already driven herself mad. With her loss in composure, Toph would be able to recognize the attack was heading for her.

The only reason Toph could not tell if Azula was lying or not was because her ability is based on the changing of peoples heartbeat. That’s why she could tell if Jet was lying. Toph would still be able to sense Azula’s movements and her changing direction as long as her feet aren’t damaged
I think the one with Zuko and Toph vs Azula is the most interesting! Even if Toph can't read all of Azulas movements I guess she still senses the change in her stand. The fight would be probably less dramatic because Toph would guard herself and Zuko wouldn't interfere and stayes unharmed. Together they would end this fight rather quickly.
You guys should make a “What if” comic, where a small thing changes and it shows the ripple effect (pretty much this). Here’s an idea: What if Zuco and Iro found Anng.
If Toph did face Azula during the agni kai, I feel she could read Azula easier. Azula is usually confident and strong minded. But in that moment zukos states she’s slipping, meaning she wouldn’t be as confident
toph vs azula is a big thing cuz yes toph knows every movement but we saw what happened when toph tried to talk to zuko. zuko burned tophs feet and toph went back. if azula burns tophs feets it would be over. about the field trip I think they would search maybe for toph's parents. toph wrote a letter to them in season 3 eps 7 so what if they got a letter back. zuko knows how important it is to have the love of a real mother.
Toph vs Azula for two reasons One : to have a resolution for Toph vs Azula in Day of the Black Sun and Two: it just make more strategicall sense to bring an Earth Bender where there is alot earth instead of an Air ship which for most of the time was over the Ocean where a Water Bender could possibly Bend the enire Sea and Ice Pike all the airships simultaneously
Toph doesn't read people's minds, she just senses their heartbeat and deduces lies based on that. Sensing people's movements doesn't have anyhing to do with lies, so Toph would've easily blocked anything Azula could've thrown at her. A better scenario would've been that, since Azula knows Toph is blind and can only see grounded enemies, she would stay in the air and attack her that way.

This would have been so amazing, but the original storyline was much better because everyone got their own roles to play in ending the war and played them perfectly
I really don't think Toph would have trouble reading Azula's movements... as soon as Azula made the slightest move that gave her the ability to bend at Toph, Toph would know and dodge, not try and block, My guess is that she'd use earth bending to drop underground, if she so chose she could attack from underground as well. This would have left Zuko unharmed and free to finish Azula instead of watching, waiting, and analyzing her. I feel I should also mention there are metal grates all around the ring the Agni Kai is taking place in, so enough metal to create projectiles launched at incredible speed and unstoppable even by the extreme heat of Azula's blue flames. Either way Toph and Zuko would have been fine, if not a few singes on Zuko if he wasn't careful, or decisive enough.
Toph and Zuko on a field trip would be pure beautiful chaos.
