Contra, Super C, Contra 3 Speedrun Single Segment

- It's a speedrun of the 3 games (NES and SNES) aiming for fastest completion without restarting. Once I beat the first one, I need to play the other two without restarting. If I got a gameover at Super C or Contra 3, I'd have to play Contra again, as if the 3 games were in fact a single big game.
Well, I managed to finish them in less than 1 hour. And here is the result. Enjoy.
PS.: This is a speedrun of the game, but it was made on emulators so I could easily record the AVI. I used a dual shock playstation controler, without turbo buttons or special button combinations. Everything was configured to be as close as possible to the real consoles.
That was an excellent piece of work. Your Contra 3 antics had me in stitches. I watched the whole thing and was highly entertained.

I know this is late, but I respect that this run isn't perfect. But what really gets me is the brilliance of your bullet pairings on C3 to make up for the limitations on the strongest weapons! Very enjoyable
This brings back so many memories of me as a child & my friends as well... Neil,sth & mike & i would play these games & they were the greatest games in my opinion. Great work, my friend.

Good job man, I really like your style of gameplay, you don't try to look all badass by using tools and you don't just rush though either, you kill nearly every guy and all that. Thats how I play myself and if I ever record myself it would be similar to your style. Great job again

Stage 3 of Contra III is the undisputed masterpiece of all Contra stages.
These has to be the 3 best contra games in the series.
The music starting at 52:57 is certainly an act of homage being paid to Alan Sylvestri, music composer for the Back to the Future and Predator films. No doubt about it.

Damn, man I just realized how awesome the sound and graphics are for Super C using only the NES hardware.
One of the best games of its time. If you owned a Nintendo you owned this game.

there are two reasons:
1 - there can be only 10 of your own spread gun bullets on the screen at all times. So, if you shoot too fast, it'll only throw 1 or 2 bullets per shot.
2 - the bullet flickers every other screen frame, (the game runs at 60 fps), but youtube only goes on 30 fps, so some bullets are always lit and others are always dark.
The longer the speedrun the harder to be optimal. If I was speedrunning just contra 1 it'd be much better. Thanks for watching

Ah i remember the good old days when i used to play Contra and Super C the whole day xD
Thanks, it's probably the difference in our weapons of choice. I chose the weapons that deal most damage instead of Spread guns and Homing guns exactly for that purpose. You gotta know where to shoot during the levels though when going with Crush missiles and Laser or you'll be quickly surrounded.
love to hear the original songs of the games, since contra 4 used remixed versions of those songs and even remake some bosses
The 3 games are awesome and have very good music but the best music is from Contra

You remind of...well... myself and my youth playing these games, specially the way you played Contra 3. Just out of curiosity, are you planing on doing contra 4? Nowadays is simple to record on an emulator.
Have you played Contra 4? That's a hard friggin game.. but it's got awesome challenges and has Contra and Super C in nes form, with old skool cheats! Good stuff...

the select is only when you're doing two player. So for those who usually played this game with a friend, select usually gets plopped in there from memory.
I think nintendo would love to have these games there, it's just that the companies that own these titles don't want to do that just yet.

thanks! but, I went as fast as I could, so it is a speedrun. It's just far from perfect. I had to go back a bit at places so I didn't have to restart all over by getting a gameover.
And to think Metal Gear might have turned into a game just like this series.
I also like contra 3. I think some people don't like the turbo machine gun default weapon, they want to keep pushing the same button madly.
omg, they made the X-Box 360 arcade version a lot easier, and i could barely make it 5 levels into that!
thanks, yeah, all without savestates, that's why I didn't "ignore some of the stuff they didnt have to be fought." I had to be at least a bit safe ;)
There are codes that you can do at the tittle screen (like u,u,d,d,l,r,l,r,B,A start) and others that will let you play all the tracks of the game then all you have to do is record them. hope that helps
to feel very exotic and alien (for people who don't do that often, wearing elephants for a hat)
You rock and that's not a TAS, ouf ! I don't like TAS. Here that's real and you die time to time. In the final boss of contra 3, 1s later you will lose the game, you are lucky :)
Great movie for a great player, I never beat contra 3 in hard, so that's the 1st time that I see that the final boss can fly !

Yo but you know what would be cool? A brand new Contra that is more of an RPG ala Metal Gear Solid. I'd buy that.
lol This isnt really a speedrun per se but it was still damn good. A real speedrun the person would've ignored some of the stuff they didnt have to fight.

In the first two i know i could def do them faster but i struggle with contra 3. if i knew how to stream from my tv to my computer i would do it on live stream. i also don't have a controller to run the emulator. I was impressed with contra 3 though, you could still use some improvement.

Actually, nowadays it's not because of the Director tag, it's because they joined before the 10 minute limit was put up.

Laser + Cluster have much higher damage per second. Homing and flame are only good when you don't know exactly where to shoot, as they kill a lot of weak enemies quickly. But I wanted to kill the bosses quickly (I don't care about the enemies, they don't delay me)

you are f*ckin beast at Contra 3, you beat bosses that took me 3 minutes to beat on easy in lie 5-10 seconds on hard.
lol i have contra 3 and that snake thing is the worst one always killes me. great job tho ill have to play the others. i can get to the biker level in contra 3 without loseing a life, very hard

To capture Contra 4, you could hold it in front of a mirror, zoom in, and then with video effects, mirror it back. Stupid but good.

You almost "Game Over'd" near the very end. You would have had to play Contra 1, 2, and 3 all over again! If you're feeling up to it, you should get ahold of Contra 4 somehow and play all 4 of them back to back.

That sound test will work on the japanese version of the game,you should be able to find the rom of it,they say it will not work on the US version.

goddamn the last boss in contra is completely ridiculous his goddamn attacks are completely insane and nearly impossible to dodge ESPECIALLY that gay looking blue sphere attack I dont know who could dodge that...
Not saying that your wrong, but people just added the select because it was a common code for Konami games back then.
Oh you mean Lobo for the snes? THat isn't 3D at all, it's pre-rendered and it's in 2D. I think the game you're looking for then may be Doom Troopers, look it up.
Hard corps isn't part of the main storyline. I have just started playing Contra 4, I can't beat it on Hard yet, and got 30 challenges done. If you know a way to record a NDS gameplay, I'd like to know.
Same reason that Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy games aren't I'd bet. Either Nintendo of America doesn't want to pay for licensing or they just plain don't like us. :$

It's the fastest there is, so it is a speed run. Make it faster and this will become known as a slow run.
you can with an xbox controller... not sure about ps3 remote, but u can pickup xbox controllers for cheap if u dont already have one laying around.
hes really good at this i tried playing this with a controller i just got but the D-pad isnt good enough (logitech dual shock) and its hard ashell to control it

humm not really, it took be about 2 hours because I retried contra a few times, but once I got a sufficiently good enough contra run I just went through the other 2 which I know better.
Plus, it's kinda bullshit that earlier members retain the ability to upload vids longer than 10 mins.

i think he got really good at timing what he wanted to appear
