Our semi-official video for Abney Park's Airship Pirates, from the album Lost Horizons.
Filmed on location in North Wales; special thanks to Sue Happs and Gresford Methodist church, who lent us the use of their hall for the green-screen shots.
Actors and Actress: Rob Hayes, Michael Dee, Nick Dewey, Kathryn Malcolm and Rory Yeung.

"we're the only airship pirates" is in the chorus and the video ends with them being attacked by another crew? good video none the less. i enjoyed it anyway.
The ship at the end is a naval frigate, not a pirate ship - hence the armour, heavy armaments etc. Glad you enjoyed it!
I think it's the Air Navy of the territory basically hunting them down, or trying to. Or a Pirate Hunter maybe?

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I won't lie, some of the acting is a little poor, and the animation not top quality, but this thing matches what I thought of the song to PERFECTION. Nice job!

Hard to believe this is "just" a music video....well-done, one and all.
7/10 Actors looked too stiff and ships didn't look steampunk-y enough, but that last one's mostly a nitpick.
We'll take the first comment - they were amateurs to be fair (or press-ganged engineers and art students), but I can't work out the second - what's not steampunk about a steam powered airship?
+Tigermoth Productions, I would look at Bioshock Infinite. I think that is what he is referring to. Those dirigibles look more steampunk in appearance and function. You should see those ships when you get ready to take Elizabeth away from that city in the sky. Or you can go to google images and type in Bioshock Infinite zeppelins. As I have said though I think that is what he was referring to. Not sure about it.
I can see where you're coming from Michael, but I don't agree - Bioshock infinite (which I like enormously) uses a very Cliche'd, whimsical style of steampunk - almost a tick list of airships, brass, leather, wood, goggles etc. We've always tried to represent a darker, grittier, more dystopian world, and the (ship) style to us is somewhere between steam and dieselpunk, with a bit of mid 19th century naval architecture thrown in. I agree it's not everyone's style of steampunk - but it is steampunk nonetheless.
+Tigermouth Productions, I understand now. I did not know that you're going for a certain aesthetic look. I just love all aesthetic looks of steampunk. I understand, that you want to show the downtrodden side. Not many people show the uglier side of steampunk, just the whimsy side as you put it. I do apologize for not seeing that viewpoint. I would still love to see a great steampunk movie though. Not Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow or Planet 9. I did not know dieselpunk was a thing until now. That is where I was probably going off the path. Might look into dieselpunk and get a little educated on it.
I think it's a shame the uglier side isn't shown so much these days - Steampunk has its roots in some very dystopian books from the 70's, 80's and 90's (The Difference Engine, The Warlord of the Air etc) and I think a lot of that has been lost over the years. At the same time, things do change with time and that's important for keeping the genre moving and fresh, so I don't resent the fact.
If you're interested - the pirate ship was based on a rough and ready kitbash model I built a few months before we made the video; it used parts from a second world war soviet bomber - the Petlyakov Pe-2 - which is the origin of the Dieselpunk edge to the designs. Pic here:

Such a cool song and video! Looks like it was filmed in Britain, Scotland or Ireland. Miles of stone walls like those still cross the land. Most built during Roman times or before. Ever watch Captain Harlock? Space pirate. His Lady pirate friend, Emeraldas flies a space cruiser that resembles an old galleon style ship suspended below a red zeppelin emblazoned with a pirate's skull emblem.

You should watch Galaxy Express 999. Captain Harlock and Emeraldas are in that movie.
Play the game Skies of Arcadia on either Dreamcast or GameCube. That is a very steampunk game and is loosely based on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, more so on Moby Dick,and the ships are reminiscent of Captain Harlock, whose ship, by the way, was named Arcadia.
john tracy, how's it going? I love Galaxy Express 999! Emeraldas has a sister named Matael who has her own manga and anime in which Emeraldas, Harlock and everyone else shows up as guests. The Arcadia is a cool ship! The arcadia and Queen Emeraldas were built by their friend, Tochiro. In the Emeraldas OVA series she tells his back story about how he built it and many other ships using a special alloy found by Harlock. As they show his ship, Death Shadow in dry dock, alongside it are the Arcadia and the space cruiser, YAMATO! Yes, he built it , too! Many of the Captains in the OVA wear the same uniform as Captain Okita of Yamato. I also have issue 2 of the Emeraldas manga. It explains she and Tochiro's love affair. It also contains an additional story where she and Harlock are real air pirates fighting British airships while looking for a lost treasure. Harlock's crew catch and eat her bird, Haw Haw (Tori San) during the fight. Emeraldas and Tochiro have a daughter together as well who has her own spin off. Have you seen the CGI Harlock or the live character Yamato movies? Awesome stuff!

Besides that I really enjoy this song, I love your music video. The fact that the actors are amateurs and the animation is good but not a hollywood-animation gives the music video a slight touch of beeing trashy. dont get me wrong, I really appreciate the effort you put in your music video. The circumstances I mentioned create a certain style that fit incredibly well to the song and espacially to the lyrics. i just assume you wanted to do it this way. Great work!
