We have a LOT of women up here getting into the Steampunk stuff. Moreso than the guys, honestly. Our last video shoot [it's in production] we had 30 people come out and about 2/3rds were women.
Abney Park seems to be focused primarily on band vids. We're doing something more with 'em... story type vids. We all ready have plans for Airship Pirates as it's a FUN song!
I'd love to shorten my date's waiting time with 'sports' like these. :D Absolutely amazing video! Made me laughing tears. And the yellow 'tune' of it all fits perfect to the music! Excellent work!
Well, if you live in or near Toronto... drop me a note and we'll include you. We're ALWAYS looking for more people as we prep to shoot more steampunk videos.
Heck, if it's a guy in steampunk clothing, you got me. SO CUTE (Cuter is if said guys turn out to be the kind who hang around because you're interesting and not because you own bras, a trait often more commonly found in the demographic with esoteric pursuits. Er... I'll leave now, my nerd is showing.)
Wow, that's really some piece of work! Amazing job, guys. (...woah... I realised it's Toronto before reaching the credits... I must have spent too long in the city...)
We are really kind of all over the place. We do a lot of 80's influenced darkwave stuff, but we also do ambient soundscapes, ragtime, waltzes, new wave, neo-classical film score type stuff, and whatever else we think of.
It great to see creativity spawned from creativity. Well done for a zero budget. I know what such a budget can be like. I am working on a music project for a 100 copy run of an album/demo on a 500 dollar budget. Luckily we own all the recording equipment and instruments already. But rest assured that the lack of funds just makes a persons creativity that much stronger well if it does not break. Thank you for sharing your strength. ATF of Axiom of Discord
@Charmalite The park at 1:22 is Trinity Square, behind the Eaton Center [where the tiny church is]. The waterfall at 2:53 is a small park... MMMmm forget what it's called... Cloud something, located south of the Bay, across the street. Cloud Gardens, that's it... south side of Richmond, between Bay and Yonge.
.......wow. not only do i love your video, it's completely awesome in so many ways. it makes me want to run around town in a long coat and have people chase me with a video camera. now i have the long coat and the camera, i just need people in costume to chase me.........hmmmmm
Goggles with prescription lens are... expensive. And most goggles DO fit over glasses if you wear them properly. Considering how many steampunk fans I know wear glasses... they should all forgo goggles?
HE was dissing Robin Hood and the poor. I was simply stating that not all poor people refuse to work, many work and they work hard to make a living, instead of living off Daddy's or Granddaddy's inheritance. How is he able to reply to that comment? I thought I had him blocked. I'm not going to bother reading his insults. People on this site really are pathetic, instead of enjoying a good video or good music, they use this to bash people.
Anything can be disproven by extrapolating it into the realms of stupidity. :p Now, how can one thing 'jump over' from genres? Well, what you need to realise is that, again, genres are not well defined by definition. There are supersets, overlaps, and subsets in them all. So, I think it depends on what your definition of a genre is. You seem to have a pretty broad definition of Darkwave. That's cool, no problem. All I'm saying is that you simply cannot say "Nope! Doesn't exist."
The "actuality" of most things is exceptionally subjective. You're assuming, because something isn't directly defined as a musical genre, it cannot have music. Therefore, there is no "actual" epic music, action music, poignant music. You can take this further and say that there is no "actual" metal, rock, blues, or jazz music. Why not? They cannot be accurately specified as to what strictly defines them. They may sound 'epic' or 'metal'. So, what if something sounds 'Steampunk'?
Viva work on a shoe string! Artists! Work on a shoe string! See: Shoe String Theory. Intelligence, art mind, is not rare (as once and still by some proposed as a justification to exclusive minority dominance of the resources of human society) but a plentiful phenomenon in our species and others. Spartan Youth Radio interviewed Cpt. Robert of Abney Park. Check out our channel or google Spartan Youth Radio for the extended version....24 minutes of Abney Park!
Because you have to be commercially viable to be played on the radio. In other words, your music has to be able to sell lots of advertisement for Tide laundry detergent and Dawn dishwashing liquid. Gross, ain't it? That's the biz though. This song is actually really close. I think they should remix it, give it a small bit of a metal edge, then rerelease. It might hit.
Well... It seems like most of the clothes are kind of "ordinary" stuff, that can be bought in normal "formal fashion" and "military" shops, except some stuff, like lady's dress, that is probably made on order and few other modded things... For better idea, search advert for main Steampunk event in Czech Republic - SteamUp Festival - named "SteamUp - trailer", hash "gcqEzb4Wk9k"
actually, steampunk fashion is influnced almost by neo victorianisim (being a fan myself) it is also influcnced by certain gothic themes, but not all steampunkers are goths, in fact, i believe that many of us are fans of the genra as we like the gadgetry and mechanics (plus of corse airships!!!) so (srry to prove a point)not all of us are goths!!!
hip hip horay!!! hip hip horay!!! hip hip horay!!!!! ahhhhh steampunk....sooooooo awesome, i really wanna get myself a trench coat, goggles, top-hat and a pocket watch then i can count my self as a true steampunk fan!!!(althou i already am an avid fan of the whole steampunk genre) HORAY FOR ABNEY PARK!!!
@Vampgurl184 One of the blessings of being a Steampunk kid is that we tend to be very resourceful. In fact, a lot of members on Brass Goggles got their goggles from their grandparents and people who lived in that era. And thrift stores, garage sales, etc. Learning to sew might be a good idea, too.
I am not talking about your moral obligation to the old and infirm. It is those who demand that society provide them with what they see as an entitlement. And if as you claim that most on government assistance is truly because they cant work, we as a species are doomed.Darwinisim demands it.
I’m I going mad but is there a passing resemblance to the Assault of precinct 13 theme / Bomb the bass - Megablast / Xenon 2 sound track interwoven in this tune, at least superficially so? This is a brilliant track none the less.
@Fiendwald there is a difference between REFUSING to get a job and not being able to get a job. The rich have this misconception that all poor people refuse to work, when in most cases they work HARDER than most rich people.
Me too man. I've always had a facination with the style I just didn't know it had a name. I always loved the airship things in FF9 and a few flash games on the web that looked the same. I love steam punk!!!
I thought that when I first got into steampunk, but the thing is, girls aren't stuck just in skirts and such for it. I normally go for a tomboy old time mechanic, so you don't always need to wear intricate skirts.
The boots are UK underground North American size 11, from one of Toronto's often-moving boot shops on Yonge St. Not, BTW, the best boots for running all day in. :) The coat came from a stall in London (UK)'s Camden Market.
@magicfirerul1 I don't want to sound rude, and I hope this isn't, but those "children" are actually dolls. They are called "Ball Jointed Dolls" But they do look like children. They are very realistic. :3
Bit of a bleak outlook. The difference in this is purely philosophical and is entirely based on what you believe to be a genre. Genre, by definition, is a vague category with no strict boundaries. (:
or you can use the goliathon 800 moon hater death ray to atomise large parts of the moon (22 miles squared) all from the comfort of your own home... that'll sort those blighters out!! HAZZAARR!!!!
Sans the distracting presence of automobiles and persons in non-period clothing, this was an excellent video. I hope you continue to produce in a steam-based fashion. I would love to see more.
Because the radio stations these days hate anything that isn't swag related or different from "boy bands". But, Alas, Abney Park and many others spice things up, on the net that is.
I actually like the video. But that's in toronto, really??? I didn't recognize any of them places except old city hall, where is the fountain at 2.53 for example? or the park at 1:22?
@xhellraiserx1234 I love when people argue on the internet. Yup. It's really awesome. Like licking shredded glass, laid on a belt of serrated blades. Often time about as intelligent too.
i don't get why it's called steampunk. i get the futuristic steamwork art, but the music is so far from punk and closer to power metal, but it's not power metal at all
The world needs more brass and more pairs of welding goggles... Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong reality because watching this video makes me kinda sad. :/
It's hot and humid and my clothes are stiking to my body! that has nothing to do with what we were discussing. I want an airship...maybe i'll make a small one :/
That was great :) Loved the video and, of course, Abney Park's song. By the way, where did the "running guy" (don't know what else to call him) get the long coat?

I'm fine with this trend 😁
Knock knock. Anyone alive in 2019? It amazes me how much this band has come along since 12 years ago.

I loved it...the video and the music
The Wrong Side is one of my favorite songs, and I keep coming back to this Vid, cuz Abney Doesn't have one
For the budget you guys had, this video is really amazing.
I always commit robbery when my date is late. Favourite Sport.

Absolutely amazing video! Made me laughing tears. And the yellow 'tune' of it all fits perfect to the music!
Excellent work!
How many of these dudes can create their own System V makefiles?
The two priests are seriously the best in this video. Their body language tells it all.
It was shot in Toronto. Ontario.

Haha! Yeah I know right? It just seems like there's more than meets the eye. Which is a good thing! Very cool vid, five stars :D
Oh no! no ! A Gentleman provides a Lady with the right hand ! Not the left one... aww... other than that, it was cool :)
I don't really get what's going on either, even knowing that it is Steampunk... but it must have been so much fun to shoot!
@hero3bash A little parkour is always fun, but does it fit? I think I want to see a mix of steampunk and parkour now.
I actually helped out with this one. It was a lot of fun running around the parks and streets of Toronto filming this.
lol sorry, i just assumed that you were impling that we were all goths, (didnt boad well with me) my mistake sorry ^^
Love this song ♥
Abney Park Cemetery is really near my house yay!! I must go there...
@CannonBall01991 you have to find them at junk shops, usually, and then upcycle them into something awesome.
well, it doesn't... but that's a fair excuse! It's an awesome vid anyway, doesn't matter about a small mistake.
Abney Park is a great band! I love their Lost Horizons CD. And I love the steampunk fashion!
Steampunk Never Die- specialy in those days!.
Anyone else notice this song sounds a lot like The Casualties - Unknown Soldier
/watch?v=Ur7Z-w_tF5E
I understand what you traing realize. Pety for small budget
@ThePivotPivot i'll be your friend.
although, i'm sort of steammod. i made it up. i think. ._.
I missed their last show in Seattle, but oh well I'm going to see them during the steam punk con.
Ah Ha? Are you kidding? It's like the updated version of Sisters of Mercy! Damn cool song and vid!
I want those goggles. I want those goggles so badly. And/or the hat. I'd be cool with the hat.
@wyldelf Toronto has some gorgeous architecture. I guess you learn something new every day :).
What event was it for? Also, what is the location! amazing place to film! Amazing film, period!
I would move to Toronto if life was like this everyday! It's sooooo much better than Florida.
The chorus is similar to The Casualties - Unknown Soldier which is a very good song as well
I agree with insipidman. This may have been an add, but it's also a great stand alone work.
It was a very good fan-made vid. Very, very few of those on youtube. Great song, great vid :)
I'm not usually a fan of fan-made videos, but this came out REALLY well! Good work, man!
Usted tiene la derecha que insultar. Usted puede aprender algún día ser cortés.
I imagine the main singer as captain Flint from Black Sails tv show :P
Right?!
