The Carpenters And When He Smiles Reaction 1. The Electric flute was good He was jammin 2. Can you imagine being the guy she was singing about? 3. Karen's facial expressions are so good. They really sell this song.
Jaybriel Akoi It’s one of the songs on the ‘Close to You’ album from 1970. Please react to this one, it’s quite nice. I really think you will enjoy the oboe, sax, low register, and lush harmonies in it.
This is one of those rare gems that Carpenters nerds definitely know about, but the General Public familiar with their stuff does not, so congrats on finding it. There are a couple more that I think are priceless Hidden Treasures.
OH MY GOSH!! This is my first time seeing this and it was so good! My favorite part of course is seeing Karen playing the drums and singing. She is just amazing!
@@jaybrielakoi7747 ... Yes she loved playing the drums and singing but at the same time. She was never really comfortable being front and center but she was only 5'4 so she could barely be seen and so Richard had made a deal with her that for the ballads she would get get up front for em. That's when a lot of her insecurities about her weight came into play because she knew by being front and center she'd be critiqued more about her looks and what not...as she wasn't when she could just basically "hide" behind the drums. Kinda like a security blanket.
@@tonyacook8966 Reminds me of the last rock band I was in. I played guitar and keyboard and sang backup but I didn't really like being out front so I got my keyboard set up behind one of our P.A. speakers and generally stood back there when playing guitar. Fun times though.
This video was just a joy to watch. I'm not familiar with the song, but watching Karen drum and sing just made me smile. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
I’d like to make a special request for a reaction vid for ‘Maybe it’s You’ and another one for ‘Baby it’s You’. And could you could put out both reactions on the same day, if possible? The names sound similar, but they are two separate songs, both from the album ‘Close to You’ (1970). Both have oboe, lush harmonies, and the latter one has sax - your favorite. I think you will really enjoy these two, they’re quite beautiful.
Ya, I'd mention how awesome her voice is but then I'd only be talking about her voice over and over and over and over and over voice over and over and over and over and over
She is in Heaven just making music on the drums along with other great musicians! Nothing feels better! Classical Trumpet player here who loved playing Chamber Music in Brass Quintets!
This was a tune by Wildweeds guitarist from CT (the Carpenters old home). Al Anderson wrote it and then went onto cult legends NRBQ, Al now writes songs down in Nashville where he's had some great success. The Carpenters only did this tune as part of their live act.
@ntrtainr 4 years ago (edited) Actually, I was told that this song was written about a girl from Vernon, CT who Al had dated. Her name was Sarah (last name withheld) and she was a very good friend of mine also. Her smile was every bit as beautiful as the song itself.
Finally! Someone who plays the carpenters songs that were not hits but just as beautiful! Try one of these, if you would like, please: trying to get the feeling again, I believe you, still crazy… Thank you!❤️
You should listen to their Mr. Guder live. It is really interesting, its kind of jazzy and it features back and forth solos between clarinet and drums (Karen on drums).
Jaybriel Akoi you should do a reaction to the album version of Mr Guder first before doing a live one. It’s just always better to hear the studio version first: ua-cam.com/video/-GAmNAAkWOk/v-deo.html
They would say, about KC, that the "money is in her basement". Because she was bass/contralto. And she never tried singing tenor or falsetto. Lung power? Not for her; her voice was hauntingly beautiful enough.
Karen was one of those artists where the microphone made the artist. Though her voice was smooth as silk, people noted you could barely hear her sing without the mic when she was rehearsing. Not a criticism, but it was just a very quiet/small sounding voice without the enhancement of the mic.
If there's anyone who was greater than Richard Carpenter as an arranger, who wasn't named Brian Wilson, I don't know who they are...not a bad keyboardist either...and of course she could flat out sing, and beat the hell out of the drums, too...
You should do Top Of The World from 1976...and then play the one Richard Carpenter did in 1998 for Japanese fans and put his "1998" self in the original video...it's pretty goosebump worthy. ua-cam.com/video/FDPMmaHWj1I/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/00m381FnZUM/v-deo.html

I've never heard of that one or seen it on a list. Is it one of the less popular ones or something?

I’ve never heard this Carpenter song! I really like it! That electric flute was excellent! Thanks, Jay.
All these weird instruments they used back then.
@@jaybrielakoi7747 The only instrument that really through me for a loop was the electric flute! I like your song ‘comments’ too!

@@jaybrielakoi7747 I would highly recommend "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day". Karen's vocal is outstanding.

Amazing voice from Karen at her loveliest! RIP and play your drums, darling
so sad we lost her.
This is a live version from BBC 1971 😄
Thanks for the comment.
What a gorgeous person inside and out...or one could NOT make that angelic sound!
To answer your question, this song is from around 1971. In the video they’re on a BBC television special.
thanks I appreciate it.
That was such a good concert
21, cute as a button, and oh so talented!
that voice of hers is absolutely magical .
Indeed Bill, KC was at the peak of her loveliness at age 21.
crying here... love Karen... good times .. 😔❤️
What shows up is Karen's voice and and # 3 was her drumming...there I helped you!
Thank you Jaybriel, I don’t know this song. Or the video. Anytime I see Karen on drums I’m happy. Awesome.
