When I come home from work and watch a DM and Zeus video, just makes my day. Thanks for an entertaining and humorus look into how poker sometimes and usually happens. Make sure Zeus gets an extra cookie.
Happy New Year! Welcome back Zeus! The revised goal list looks good. The canine karaoke made it hard to focus 😂 but I love it. BTW, during his time away, having adventures, your faithful companion turned into an absolute savage 💀 I guess he's being a good coach, tough but tough. I bid you a prosperous and optimistic New Year. A little Doug and Dog is a great start!
I learned a long time ago to avoid betting a double paired board unless I have one of the full house cards. The only hand that calls you is one that will beat you. There is a new hand coming in a few seconds. You are right, that is the worst played hand of the year, any year. but thanks for sharing it!! Best to share the best and the worst. I'll rate this as one of your best videos.
I call that a Haleys comet hand, it comes around every 76? years or so and creates havoc, not to be seen again for years. +540 at 1-3 c'mon thats damn good. Happy New Years to you, Zeus and still waiting for the wife to appear in a vlog.
Happy New Year! Always fun to charge draws, sell your hand with blockers, play position, grind until you find that 1. I miss playing a cpl times a week. Thx for showing me I can still do it 😂😮😅.
Happy New Year McCusker Family. I find in most low stakes games, the majority of the people you play against do not understand bet sizing. So I will almost always deffer to larger sizing's, especially pre flop. In my local room, even making an early raise 5x the blind, you still get 4-6 callers. Example from last night game. Me UTG, KcKd open to twenty in a 1/2 game, no straddle, I get four callers. Flop is 7s, 6c, 3d, seed bet $25, two folds, big blind shoves his remain stack of $75. I sigh call thinking he hit a set, nope called with 3-6 off-suit and smashes the flop.
Like the month to date chart and Zeus in the intro 👍 . Tho I would personally shy away from monthly $ goals (yearly is fine). Shallow games are harder to navigate , I would still play your standard game with no deviation FWIW.
Honestly it is interesting to see even skilled and experienced players playing hands badly from time to time. As a beginner trying to learn and get better everytime this humbles me even more and Shows that poker is a constant progress/learning
Doug, that 💩hand was a clear visit to Zeus's office, thanks for the post-mortem. :) At least you recognize all the nuances of the dubious tomfoolery you unleashed, which are uncharacteristic of your play. Maybe something else was going on with you before that hand that created poor Doug conditions??
Thanks Doug I was an avid limit player until I decided I was fed up with losing and since Jan 1st have moved to the no limit tables where you can protect your hands more often I have played 3 times and up over 900 dollars I hope 2024 is a much better year 😅
Do you ever have a losing sessions? My God!! lol and NO that live stream in Texas doesn't count, that's more of a 1-off situation. In your normal 1/3 $500 cap game, do you ever have a losing session? I can't seem to remember one. Your channel is really helpful. I mostly play a 1/2 $300 cap game in Dallas that seems very similar to you 1/3 game. I also play for about 3.5 to 4 hours a session as well. Over the last few months my sessions usually go like this: spend about 2.5 to 3 hours playing solid poker and building a small profit only to punt off 1/2 my stack with what is obviously a really stupid play/hand that I just can't get away from. In this session here I noticed you played just 8 hands over about 4 hours. I think I may be playing a few too many hands compared to this. You played: A5s, A9s, KQo, KQs, QQ, KK, A8s, and AQs. I'd like to see the hands you decided NOT to play and from which positions. For example, Do you just fold small and medium pocket pairs or did you just happen to not get dealt any this session? Same with small suited connectors and suited 1 gapers? Last year (2023) I played about 500 hours and ended up being down exactly 1 buy-in or $300. So I'm pretty much a break even player over the last 2 years, actually up a few buy-ins but not able to build a bankroll or move up to a bigger game. I feel like if I can just get away from a few more hands I would be a winning player moving up.
I normally win 75% of the time. And yes, I do post them when they happen if it contained many interesting hands. Recently I posted a bonus hand where I was felted for $500 the very first hand. Unfortunately, there was not too many interesting hands for the rest of the day and I ended up losing $600. I do have a hard time playing long hours, my concentration diminishes over time. A long session for me is 5-6 hours, it has to be a really good game for me to stay.
Playing bigger is fine as long as the game is as good. The 1-3 game is fantastic. I will let all the big good players fight with each other while I will be stacking chips with the little guys. It’s all about game selection.
The Sunday game I play, the only game I have to play in, is very shallow stacked. 50 bbs max buy in. You would think people would fold more often when you open for 10bbs, but normally you will get at least two callers. They do not fold any str8 or flush draws regardless of sizing, and will call preflop with any 2 cards. Should be an easy game right? I lose all the time getting it in as a 3 to 1 fav or better. Very frustrating but you can't feel bad when you flop the nuts, get a value bet in post, get a caller, turn bricks out and you go all in giving them 3 to 1, and they call with 20% equity or less and spike the river. I just need to win 4 of 5 of these spots but variance has been killing me for months.
Variance is a bitch. You can do everything right and get beat hand after hand for weeks. The good news is that variance swings both ways, you will run like god for weeks also.
Making a pot sweetener bet? You taught me not to do that during my visit. Losing only $240 was better than my result but geez. Oh well you’re human. Good overall result as you played very well thereafter.
Zeus is fed up with you not sticking to your own guidelines in the handbook. Would’ve loved to see you extract more value with the A8 hand. A win is a win though, $500 is better than -$500…
A8 I wasn’t going to win much with the river bet. Best opportunity was to check raise with it. Plus I get to show my opponents that I can check strong hands, which protects my checking range.
Happy "2024 buddy, all the best for the coming year!!! Fraser you have players putting in calls to three bets with 10/2 suited, wow, how good is that game, lol, full of donkeys, a fish like that is never ever folding theyre so bad they dont understand the word "Represent" theyre just gamblers, obviously, you have to get them to put in alot more preflop , but you know that, very soft game there eh??
@@dougmccuskerpoker Anybody who has been playing for 30 ish years has a few of these 🤦♂️ and a few of these 👟🏈 to look back on. Everybody makes mistakes In poker. Only a few learns from them and corrects them. 🤓
Reminds me of that time I rivered the nut flush draw and semi-bluffed my opponent for value. Kinda risky, but the river card binked my rep range for the bluff shove- and I’m always checking for protection there
KQo plays much better with a small field. Pot sweetening bets are better for multi-way pots. Suited hands. A give up after the flop is the best play IMO
It’s not ideal to punt like that but it’s not the worst thing in the world. It keeps the fish around thinking the game is good for them and you’ll get more action when you shove with good hands. I found if you play too good all the time the weaker players will feel intimidated and there goes your action

Zeus is demanding more treats with all his extra work.
Hey Zeus! Glad you were just as disgusted at that hand as I was. Glad I'VE never done anything like that, right? 😂😖🤭🤣
Good to see ya, Buddy!🐕😊🥰
It was pretty bad. 🫣

A lot of people even call with Ace high hands because double paired boards are bluffed so often.
It’s was horrendous, his stack size made trying that play impossible.
@@dougmccuskerpokerZebos theorem is always applicable at $1/3…
No one is folding a full house, ever
Great results after the KQ hand, you battled back and didn’t let tilt take control.
Short term memory can be advantageous 😀
Happy New Year Doug! You did a nice job of not letting a poorly played hand effect the rest of your session.
Thanks, in poker it is important to forget your punts.
Besides the blunder, you played solid!!! Nice win, Doug. 😊
Thank you kindly
Happy New Year to you, Zeus, and family
Same to you!
Another great Sunday Vlog, Doug! Keep’em coming!
Thanks! Will do!

I was happy with the win, not so much with my play. Wife is shy but I may get her to support the channel with her presence.

Happy new year! You need to scratch that itch 😀

That’s the 1-3 players favorite move, call with junk and hope to hit it.

Everyone screws up, the goal is to do it less than your opponents.
😂😂😂 loved the Zeus sing along.
He sings as bad as me 😂😂

I knew Zeus was gonna show up pissed lol.
Oh yeah, no doubt
3:00 KQo, thanks for bringing this hand. Good to learn from.
You bet!
If that was the worst, played hand of the year, the good news is that the year is very young. Lol
Couldn’t resist the play on words for the new year.
Zeus out front, singing solo!!!! Bet he dances like Fred Astaire
He does have 2 left feet. 😂

As a long time limit player, no limit is the way to go. I made the change, I’m sure you can too.
Your last comment on sizing is SOOOOO important.... thx again for a great video
Glad it was helpful!
You tell ‘em Zeus! Good boy! 🐶
Zeus is one smart dog 🐕
Way to rebuild doug! We all make mistakes, what really counts is how we play after the mistakes
Very true, tilt prevention after a very poor play is crucial.
Happy new year 🎉🎉

Respect to the doyle!! 😂
You need to make it 60 or 65 especially out of the small blind.
Yes, much larger raise sizing, but would he ever fold the Doyle??🤔🤔

9 out of 10 yes he's folding. It's always missing in the flop

Yeah, sometimes you need to change plans.

Zeus must have lived with you a long time. He talks just like you 😅
I taught him. 😀
I agree it’s better to raise bigger. Don’t play down to the poker players level.
Agreed Mike, make them play out of their comfort zone and into mine.
Clearly the worst you’ve played all year. 😉
I definitely would have led the river on the A8 hand to try to extract more value.
I like the check, missed and made draws could bet an ace and the flush draw completing.
It's a new year time for a new intro song. Please!
Oh no, that’s one of my favorites.
It’s not ideal to punt like that but it’s not the worst thing in the world. It keeps the fish around thinking the game is good for them and you’ll get more action when you shove with good hands. That is true, one of the things I always try to do when playing is give the illusion of action. Playing draws fast is one example.
Enjoy Zeus singing.
He is a better coach than a singer.
best of luck!

I could always use some luck
Lol great hand
