Japan is by far more beautiful with a lot more historic buildings (because Japan literally bulldozed all of Korea's during the occupation, anything left was flattened in the war) and it is an awesome place to visit... but I prefer living in Korea. The culture is more open, with a much more blunt and forthright manner of speaking than you find in Japan. I suffered too many awkward situations in Japan where I was invited somewhere or spent time with a person only to find out later they didn't enjoy my company and were just trying to be polite. Both countries are awesome - but Korea is the place for me.
