Going through your vids Ben - another cracker. Whisky aside, I continually tell my (slightly younger) wife: "the older the fiddle, the sweeter the tune." 😂

Hey Ben! On a Vintage the bottling date does not necessarily has to tell you the age of the whisky has it? Do you know if there is any regulation which says that the whisky has to go directly from the cask to the bottle? For instance if they pour the whisky from the cask after 9 years to a plastic tank to store/stop aging or whatever for 1 more year and then bottle it, then the date of distillation and bottling will show 10 years of difference however the whisky is basically only 9 years old. So in my understanding it works the other way round to an age statement because the whisky is for sure not older than 10 years. What do you think? Cheers!

Hey Marton! Not always, some, like the Islay Barley do also state the age; but usually the vintage and the bottling date are enough.
Whilst I guess, yes, they *could* store the whisky for a year or whatever, I don’t think it would make any reasonable sense to do so from a financial and quality point of view. The more time the whisky is spent anywhere that isn’t a barrel or a bottle, it is essentially just losing the distillery money because it’s costs money to store that much liquid, and as a distillery you would want to preserve the cask quality as much as possible. Obviously it does spend *some* time in a middle tank whilst all the casks are blended together and then bottled (unless it is a single CASK whisky), but I guess they would want to keep this to a minimum for the reasons above.
Bloody good question though, and I’m going to actually ask a distiller and find out exactly!

This is exactly what I tell my younger wife - age doesn’t matter, and as importantly neither does size! ;)

At what point does age of whisky stop affecting the flavor? Is there really a difference between say 30 year vs 40 year? Those prices start climbing fast. 🤔

Good question! There’s plenty to take into consideration.
The cask and how readily it wishes to influence?
How readily the spirit takes on that influence?
The storage conditions and temperature fluctuation?
The size and fullness of the cask?
How many different casks that spirit sees over the course of its aging?
I’ve had 8yo whiskies which are deep, complex, full of colour and flavour. By contrast I’ve had 15yo spirits which are mild and pale… it really is down to each spirit and how it’s treated. Casks definitely have a finite amount of influence they can give up, and the longer the spirit is in there, the slower that process goes, but there are always exceptions and for some, that difference the last 10 years or so makes is more valuable than to others.
      Good question! Thanks for asking.

🤯 Great info drop. So whisky is like a sugar daddy, only as old as the one they’re with?
