  • When last we saw Annie Clark three years ago, she was on the cusp of stardom, she returns to the cozy confines of Studio Q to talk to guest host Talia Schlanger about her success and what's driven her artistry.

Q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

This got so deep, I love the way she interprets these questions! I mean, they're really good questions in the first place, but they're carried by her elaborate, strange answers. And the way she talks, you know that she's genuinely considering things and has so much to say but is just trying to sum it all up. A truly creative, eccentric soul.

What a brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable interview. The interviewer did her research and asked such intelligent questions. So refreshing. And also makes a change as I'm sure Annie is sick of these ignorant, dumb interviewers asking the same shit over and over. This seemed stimulating for her.

16:20 - 17:05 is something I can really relate to.
It's very strange, but it was a very strong feeling I had growing up.
The last verse/lines of Prince Johnny really hit me when I first listened to it, i love her.

Annie's pragmatic explanation or reason for her St. Vincent pseudonym was a treat to know. Great interview too!

Talia Schlanger is a terrific host and great interviewer! She created an atmosphere that allowed St Vincent to dive deeply into the subjects at hand to best reveal the nature of this talented and exceptional artist. Thank you!

Annie is always super sweet and a pleasure to listen to, but I also want to give some props to Talia for a well conducted interview. Although Jian turned out to be a complete asshole and I totally condemn how he treated other people, in purely professional terms, as a host, he's a tough act to follow. I like how you guys at Q has held up the ship. Respect for that, and here's to a radio station who will rise above all that! :)

I was wondering what happen to Jian and then I read your comment and looked up what happen. Holy shit!!!!! WTF! I assumed he was a nice guy by the way he conducted himself in the interviews. I couldn't have been more wrong.

gotf Yeah, he tricked all of us. Good journalist, bad person. I never know how to separate the person from the actions at times like these. Or if I even should.

BigBangTheory92 He was always extremely respectful in his interviews. Especially towards women. Given his on air persona, yeah it was extremely shocking to know what kind of person he was behind closed doors.

Annie is such an interesting artist and musician. The thing I love most about her is just how flat-out _weird_ she is...in the best possible sense of the word. True legit weirdness is so rare these days in music. It used to be the norm...but most artists seem to just feign it these days. But Annie is literally _strange_ and utterly abnormal. Again...this is a _positive_ thing in my mind. The worst thing I can imagine being is normal or average...or to be a member of a large group. I'm only interested in singular creative intelligent individuals who demand _more_ of themselves than the average person ever would. Those are the people who move cultural mountains...even if the larger populace don't "get" what they're all about. But I get Annie entirely. She gives me a lot of hope for the future of music.

Talia Schlanger has to be one of the most intelligent and 'present' interviewers. The vast majority of rock/pop musicians could not begin to answer her questions. These questions, however, were perfect probes to elicit the brilliance, deep thinking, eccentricity and eloquence of Annie Clark. It is so unusual that an outstanding artist can equal their musical expression with verbal expression.

Wow: Annie Clark is like the love child of Prince and Laurie Anderson. She is weird, strange, beguiling, supremely intelligent, and terrifying all at once. Her ability to describe things and explain herself reminds me of hanging around with astronomers and researchers who dabble at the edges of the known scientific universe. Keep it up Annie, the world needs more of this.

I think it's easier to see the struggle with endearment when you're past it. Me, I can't say I'm enjoying every step of the way since it feels like walking in a field of thorns...
