I own the Pro Z 970 (dual wheel for hills). It is a fantastic machine. The steering wheel was initially to accommodate my wife who does not like the traditional zero turn handles. I have come to love it as well. Absolutely fantastic machine at a crazy price but I wanted to buy a machine for the next 10 years and have the additional stability of the 4 back wheels. Good video.

Totally agree with cub steering wheel hill stability and it not tearing when zero turn. When the patent expires, I expect it to be widely adopted by other brands.

I have a Husqvarna mz54 and I'll run it against any zeroturn. I can lay stripes with any $15,000 mower . It has grease zerks on all the pulleys and casters . Built like a tank. Been mowing commercially with it for three years (45 yards)and not one break down. I grease it weekly and change my filters monthly but blow them out daily. Keep my blades sharpen weekly and use gator blades.

I have a 2012 Z Force 48 Commercial. Bought it new based on the recommendation of the local equipment company's owner. I mow 5 rugged, acres studded with live oaks in the Texas Hill Country. I have really put this thing through the wringer and it just goes and goes. I've been though a few idler pulleys and a few spindles, but they are easy to replace. It has a Kohler Command 23, which has been a good engine. I've only replaced the blades once, as they get beat really hard. I usually just sharpen them once a year and it still mows great. The best feature is the steering wheel, which allows me to easily side hill and cross uneven terrain. This thing is a mountain goat and will get into some places that I really shouldn't take it, and where a lap bar mower could never get. When, or if, it ever dies, I will replaced it with another Cub Cadet with a steering wheel.

I have tried one of those but I have arthritis in my feet and it was a pain in my feet to operate. Plus I love the suspension in Ferris lawn mowers which they have a patent on so no one else but simplicity, which is owned by Ferris, has also. I love the two handle way of mowing.

I have the mini homeowner grade ZTS1 version. No fancy suspension on the front, in fact, the frame is so rigid i can lift a wheel over a foot in the air with no flex whatsoever. It has multiple grease zerks, mostly in the steering linkage bushings on the front. I got it for one specific reason: Hills. My property is on the side of a mountain, So I have a 200 plus foot long hill right down the middle that varies between 17 and 25 degrees. I can mow sideways along most of it. A regular Zero turn would just lawn dart down the hill, and a lawn tractor, or any tractor would flip over. That's where these mowers shine is on hills and in and amongst trees, They are a lot more precise than a regular zero turn cleaning up the woodlands that are my front lawn. With a heat index of 107 today, the grass can grow, though.

My favorite thing about this mower is not the huge engine that comes on the premium model. It’s the steering system.
You can get this steering system on a mower that cost $3000-$5000 which is still a lot of money but in the lawnmower world it’s pretty standard.
When the companies have me demonstrate one, they usually have me show the biggest version of it, but that doesn’t mean I would necessarily buy the biggest one either

Thank you ! But what are "Grease zerks"? I bought a Ztxs54 last week and can't wait for it to arrive. Have you done a review on these? Regardless, how do you remove wet grass that will stick to the deck when mowed? Other posts say the batteries are less than expected. Do I need to buy a different battery? What type of gas goes in these? Do they need periodic fuel cleaner? What is best speed to mow? Without a gas gauge how do we know when gas is low? I own 4 acres of which I will be mowing close to 2 acres weekly. How much can I get mowed on a tank? I have an out of shape fire pit surrounded by tall weeds that have grown over the rock garden around it. Can I mow over it without affecting the rocks? Thanks again. You covered lots of material and now I need to learn which of these features I have on my machine. Keep me posted????

I have a Ryobi electric zero turn with a joystick. I like that design because it allows me to just sit back and flick my wrist toncontrol everything. I have to put a little more effort into left turns than right turns because of my resting arm location. Electric is not for everyone but it works well for me to maintain a few acres near the house and I brush hog the rest.
To answer the expected reply, I use tractor mowing strategy where I mow the perimeter and then keep that path shrinking the mowed area. Going clockwise to mulch grass more than once. I just like the nonstop mowing that I don't get with doing 180s.

Cub cadet came out with these in 2012 and they have a patent on them. Toro made their version that they thought was different enough to get around the patent.
The Toro version used a triangular cog instead of a round one. Made the steering clunky. There was a lawsuit and toro had to pull all of theirs.
Anybody can put a steering wheel on one. The patent protects the way they synchronize the front steering with the rear steering.

I purchased one of the first Steering wheel style zero turn mower, Cub Cadet Z Force S54 and it has proven itself to be a very stout & reliable mower. Has several hundred hours now, had it serviced recently (hydro drive belt) and my mechanic read the date manufactured as 2010. Looking back I realize the date is correct. One of the best things about the mower is its ability to handle side slopes. Have an area I mow at church near the road with a pretty severe slope and while I have to steer with one hand and hold on to high side of mower with the other, the mower is like a Billy goat on the side slope. It looked like complete $hit and and had to lower it back to 2in and re mow. I'm ready to trade it off. It made me so freaking mad. I want my old kubota mower back. I've got just under 25hrs on this thing. The deck on it seems to be lighter than my old kubota mower and bounces more.
I had a cub ztr a long time ago and had a kawasaki engine 54 cut. Was a really good residential mower. That's what led me to only buy mowers with kawasaki engines was because of it.

The way that mower works is pretty cool. I have casually looked at them but not thoroughly. I think it is a similar concept as the Country Clipper with a joystick. If I remember right that mower uses cables/rods at the bottom of the joystick so when you move the joystick right it simultaneously slows down the right hydro while speeding up the left. If you move it dramatically it will reverse one hydro while speeding up the other in the forward direction. You can do this with cables-rods-brackets or electrically with servos-rods-cables-brackets. Either way it's pretty cool because it takes the impossible guess work out of how much to slow or reverse one hydro while speeding up the other at the same time. Cub Cadets version is really cool because everyone is familiar with a steering wheel as it really is the most simple thing to learn. The joystick has a little bit more of a learning curve.

I do think honesty is important about how you got the product.
Local dealership is letting me borrow this. Might be a week might be a month. I don’t know.
I already have a nice mower and don’t need this. I’m not paid by the dealership. I’m not paid by cub cadet. It’s just some guy saying what he thinks.
The only compensation I received is that when I drive this mower, I’m not depreciating my own mower

You bought a SCAG, LOL, you obviously didn't have any issues with paying a bunch of $$$ for that so, no really the $15k for a zero turn with a 4 wheel steer capability is pretty reasonable.
SCAG has some damn good stuff for sure, but they want ridiculous prices to go with them too. Even the old belt drive walk behinds are $6K+ anymore.

@@wildbill23cScag makes cheap mowers with Chinese engines, and they make real commercial mowers too. Both of my brothers have cheap Scag Freedom mowers, and while they’re okay mowers, they’re nothing special. Their mowers were about $5,500 for a 52” cut, and they have the same Kawasaki engine (1 less hp) and same Hydrogear transmissions as my 60” Cub cadet, but my mower has a way nicer seat, much larger tires, roll cage, and each of my transmissions have a reservoir that makes it easy to do transmission fluid changes and just to check your fluid levels. I got my mower on sale for $3,500 and it feels like it should cost thousands more than their Scags. I’m not insulting Scag, they also make awesome, expensive commercial mowers that can be used all day every day.

If one cannot perform a turn on a zero turn mower without tearing the turf then they need to practice that maneuver. Most people are too lazy or impatient. However, once the technique is mastered , it's like brushing your teeth. When I trained my employees to do this, it took them usually 2-4 weeks to develop the skill. I really like this machine though, side hill mowing is a slippery slope, lol.

Hi Brock - I have this exact same mower. Had it for one season and put 50 hours on it. The best mower hands down I have ever had, and I have owned almost every type of mower you can imagine. This thing is a tank! If you see it in person, you will notice how thick the steel is everywhere on this machine. As you mentioned - no grease fittings! You explained the steering perfectly and it is precise. I load mine on a trailer with less than a 1/2-inch clearance on either side. People see me get ready to load and they say - you will never get that thing on that trailer without a fight, and with a standard ZT that would be correct, with this one it is never an issue, the steering is so precise. It is also very fun to drive, like a go-cart, and it will go as fast you want, I never use it with the pedal to the floor, even moving from one part of the property to the other - too fast. CUB has been around a long time, and they really hit a homerun with this machine - it's impressive in every way.
You explained the complexity of this whole machine perfectly - good job and keep up the great work on the videos!!

I was looking real hard at these Cub Cadets. Didn't see any available in my area so I went with a stand up mower. I'd be interested in how well that suspension seat works on these models. I'll search out a dealership that has these once I get tired of my stand up.
FYI: I came off of a Dixie Chopper Magnum. The non-suspension mower killed my back. The stand up I have now is great for my back and Is worlds away more comfortable to mow with.

Personally I think it's stupid to cut grass that high with your mower, your mower's designed to cut lawns not brush or big tall grass why do you want to pay all that money for a mower and then tear it up. If you got grass that tall beside your building take one of those tractors you have put a brush hog on it and cut it. There's no way I would take my John Deere 2032R out there and cut grass like that with it, I'll guarantee you my tractor will cut just as good as at zero turn. I can see a zero turn if you're in the commercial yard mowing business because speed is everything but just for mowing your grass I'd get a John Deere 2032R and mow all day long and then you can use the tractor for other things. I get done mowing my yard it looks like a golf course.

great review I always wondered why other companies didn't come out with their version with a steering wheel and you clarified it, because they have an exclusive patent. your property looks great, just wondering though why not grade the area flat next to your shed, but it looks like you cut it without any problems. I love your passion about the product again great job.

I mowed for five season in the late 80's early 90's with Hustlers. I STILL have a 1991 Hustler 260K--20HP Kohler that I use on my lawn.
