@McCannDogs my puppy had loose stools when we brought her home so she pooped in the crate the first couple nights while we were sleeping. She pees outside almost every time but she now thinks she has to hold her poop all day until she's in her crate. I have limited her space with a divider and wake up to take her out. She still poops in crate. Any tips?

I take my 10 week old female Rotty outside every hour to 2hrs min and stay out with her for 20-30min . She hardly goes. I'm mostly catching her starting to squat, then take her out and she dosent go. Until I bring her back in and maybe 30min later she finishes. Same with pooping. She so far has only pooped in her crate. I have it walled off for her size but she dosent care. She only does it in the crate when I have to run to the bathroom, or make a quick sandwich. I've only had her 3 days, but shes not catching on at all. I'm doing everything you're saying in all your videos. Any suggestions?

Don’t give up people, it took me about 3 months but I think my puppy is catching on. I had him in his kennel roughly 14 hours a day while I’m sleeping and at work or when I’m busy doing stuff in house. As I soon as I let him out of his kennel I take him outside let him pee or poop, praise him and bring him in. Then I usually keep him closed off in the kitchen so he doesn’t wander around the house unsupervised. During the time he’s not in his kennel I take him out pee about every 30-40 minutes. I know for some people this may not be possible but it’s seeming to work for me. I also take him on a 2 mile walk daily to get his exercise

My kids dog is a ninja with urinating.
I keep an eye on her at home. She can only be in the living room currently and I swear the second I look at the tv or something she urinates in 0.2 seconds and I find it after the fact. She would be playing with a dog toy and then pee when no ones looking. Sometimes I take her out for a walk and she pees a little bit in the kitchen the second we get home. She doesn't understand "No" very well right now which does not help. I'm somewhat glad she is not at my house much. I will like her a whole lot more when this puppy faze is over.
I'm glad everything is hardwood over here... My kids dog would drive me nuts if we had carpet.

@@wdrew04 Hello, we just took him out every 2 hours regardless and got him to associate bathroom with outside. When he would go, we would cheer to let him know it was something positive. We constantly watched him inside and did not let him out of our sight just in case he secretly went somewhere. Plus as a puppy, they should not be roaming free anyways. Also, if you could not keep an eye on him like taking a shower or house cleaning, we crated him. We did this repeatedly and it worked. After doing this for around a month we would take him out around 11pm for his last potty time and he now sleeps through the night til 525am consistently. His last potty time now is between 9-10pm. He is now 5 months old and best puppy ever. The first month is hard but it gets easier if you do your part. It's a job but consistency works!

Once we take him out he instantly goes on the grass. Working on basic commands and his nipping.

sorry_sundays put the puppy in a small crate, they won’t want to go on theirselves so this forces them to hold it. Put him in the crate for an hour then take him outside and give treats. If u take him outside and he still don’t go, put him back in the crate and try again an hour later. Your puppy has more than likely gotten comfortable going in the house and doesn’t know he has to go outside.

To piggyback on what all the other posters have mentioned, keep your pup crated and establish a potty routine. Take him to the same place to go potty outside and use the same terminology every time. Once he goes, praise him lavishly and give him a treat.
Dogs are den animals, so treat the crate like his special space: put treats and toys in it so he knows it's a good place for him to go chill and be safe.

My puppy was pee pad trained by the breeder and I live in high rise and during the time she wasnt fully vaccinated it helped out, now that she's safe to go outside (her last walk after meal is 7 pm) she does pee/poop outside, but the moment we get home she pees where the pee pad used to be, so if I put her in the crate, an hr early (which I do at 9pm normally for my bedtime and hers) she wont pee in there until the next day? And I'm afraid if she does pee in the crate that it'll be another problem I have to correct. I hope you can reply or do a follow up video. Thank you.

You need to be insync with your puppy. I know my Mastiff at 4 months would require a pee 1 hour after eating. I used to put her outside every hour until she started asking to go out by walking to the door. In the evening just before closing down for the night there is an no exception outing for all three dogs when they go out and on command PePe they all perform. Took me 2 weeks to house train the Mastiff. Also when they start to move from sleeping I ask them if they want to go outside they sometimes get excited and walk to the back door wanting to go out.

I do all of the things you've stated. I have an 8 year old yellow lab and she cracked the potty training within a week when she was about 10 weeks old. However, my 15 week old black lab pees anywhere and everywhere. He only has access to certain areas of the house and he gets my 100% undivided attention, and if I can't give him 100% due to being busy, my husband and kids give him 100%. I take him out in the garden between every 15 and 30 minutes and he usually always pees, yet still does it in the house in between garden trips. When I catch him mid pee, I say 'ah' and clap my hands 3 times, pick him up and put him in the garden. By this point he doesn't usually do anything in the garden as he's already done what he needs to do in the house. He doesn't have a particular spot in the house...anywhere is fair game. He never gives any pre warning, he will literally just drop and squat wherever he is at the time. He's better with his pooping and gives us warning for this and rarely does it in the house, but his peeing inside is out of control. We'll have a couple of days where he'll only have one accident and we think we're getting somewhere, then it'll be a week of non stop peeing and we feel like we're going backwards. It's so frustrating!

Shaquille Catchings Yeah same for my little guy. I got him at 2 months and he wasn’t allowed outside until just recently, at a little over 4 months with all his vaccinations. I live in an apartment too, so pads always had to be an option just in case.
      This is what helped me:
I did disposable pads at first, praise and treats if he used it. A calm no if he didn’t (sometimes frustration got the better of course lol). I’d take soiled paper towels and place them on the puppy pads, so he recognized it was okay to go there.
Then I got reusable pads, and put disposable on top- since they have the smell that attracts them to urinate. Now I can just use the reusable pads and he is 90% trained. He still has accidents of course, did just this morning lol- but it’s a definite improvement.
Good luck to you and your fur baby!

Thank you for making videos on this... I haven't had a puppy in 13 years and we just got 2, a brother and sister. My old lady was incredibly easy to potty train when she was a puppy. I'm talking ZERO accidents from the get go! Never let her have an opportunity to have an accident. But now I have 3 children that also need my attention, so potty training has been a bit of a challenge with the female pup (male only has an accident if I miss him trying to tell me or late to getting them out, but I will take her out and she will go and do her business... Then we come back inside and 5 minutes later she is squatting to pee 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️). I didn't realize potty training could get so frustrating!

Not really, to be honest. It's great advice!! Just didn't work for us and our pups. I follow another dog trainer on UA-cam (Stonnie Dennis) and found a potty "training" video of his that worked practically the first day, but definitely the first week for us (had a.few accidents here and there and still do occasionally, but that's how it goes with pups). Every dog and owner are different, so it might take trying different techniques. I use a lot of McCann dog training stuff, but the potty training stuff didn't work for us. Stonnie just recommend taking them out to run around and play more often... He went into more detail about it and why it works, but basically I took them out and set a timer for at least 20 minutes and let them run and play. Did this multiple times a day. Also as McCann says, after any inactivity such as naps. And after eating! Giving my pups more exercise was the trick, though. With shepherds they needed more and it worked like magic!

My puppy gets all the praise for peeing and pooping outdoors in the back yard when she comes in. She does it consistently in the same areas. It’s wonderful. She’s got her favorite spots in the front too. She gets all the praise there too.
She’s supervised 100% of the time indoors, she even comes with us on all car rides. Taken to dog parks and unique fun walks.
But the second we notice she walks into the kitchen, it’s already too late, she squats and pees all over the floor, REGARDLESS of the fact she just went pee. She knows full well not to do it. Aside from excitedly biting at my kids, this is the only thing she does that upsets the people around her. And she knows it.

Thanks for video. I have two border terrier puppies at six months. They are very good at pooping outside in the yard and learned it very quick. But peeing in the house is another thing. They are put out after every nap, after every meal and first thing in the morning for at least half an hour. But even after they have been in the yard for half an hour they still come indoors and surprise you with a pee. We are just about pulling our hair out, We were both born into families with dogs, and we have had dogs all our married lives of over fifty years. Our dogs in the past have always been German Shepherds and usually Jack Russell terriers together, but these lovely little girls have been the most difficult to potty (pee) train. They are surprisingly intelligent and learn easy except for Peeing in the house. I wish we had as much energy that they have, very tough dogs. Again thank you for video, we will keep on trying.

Ken my puppy is 4 months old and I do those things that you talk about in your video. I make the sudden sounds for him to stop peeing, I pick him up and take him outside.....he sniffs around and never finishes the pee or the other. He waits till we come back in and goes in his kennel or in my kitchen or any where in the house for that matter.
Man it's so hard!!!!!! I work 4 days out of the week for 10 hours of those days and he is blocked off from the rest of the house with training pads and he will use them, but when I come home.. he eats and drinks, I try and time it and then take him out, he just sniffs around and nothing. We come back in and when I'm not paying attention thats when he has peed somewhere or on the training pads. I'm very annoyed.

But then other times (as he's being supervised) he decides that right there and now he is going to go potty inside. Even in his empty, small crate he is poo and EAT IT. I know he is young, and we're following your video tips as best as possible, but I'm not sure else how to train him not to go potty in the house!

I'm really giving up here. Our dog is 1 year old and he's still peeing inside the house. It kinda looks like he does it out of rebellion or to bully us. Because we go with him outside and tell him to pee and he knows very well what we want from him and he does a pee and a poo outside but 3mins afterwards when we go back inside he pees again in the house. It's so frustrating. We don't know what to do anymore. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I have a new 8 wk old lab puppy. Today is her third full day at home. I know she is young and potty training requires work and consistency. I take her out every time she leaves her crate, wakes up from a nap, after eating, and when she is exhibiting signs of having to relieve herself. I take her outside to one spot, stand still and don’t say anything. She is distracted by EVERYTHING!!. Leaves (it’s fall), dirt, grass, rocks. I’ve cleared the area as best I can. She is always sniffing or trying to eat something. After about 5 min, without success, I take her inside. With in 30secs she is peeing!! I mark the behavior with a loud “hey”. It does not stop her void. I know it’s early but I want to make sure I am setting her up for success. I live in a small rented house that only has one patch of grass so I can’t find another area with less distractions. Is there anything I can do to help her beside consistency and time?

I've watched all your puppy videos and especially the potty training ones but my pup still keeps peeing in the house. Often times at night when we wake up every few hours to go to the bathroom he is great and doesn't have accidents but he gets so excited to see me and ends up peeing all in his kennel and on the carpet outside it. Then when I bring him outside like you say, he doesn't use the restroom there. He doesn't go number 2 he just pees in his kennel and sometimes on the carpet. Even though we always bring him outside every hour or so especially after his naps. I also have yet another huge issue, he does NOT walk on his leash whatsoever. He sits or lays and refuses to do anything with a leash on a collar or harness. I want to take him on walks and do literally anything else other than sitting and laying down in the house. He hates squeaker toys, hates tug of war, he only likes to chew on a rope toy. He won't even chase a ball. He has so much energy but I can't figure out how to get him to focus his energy on anything. I just don't know what to do, I really need your guidance please!

It is more difficult in my situation, because I have almost 16 year old dog. She does not control her peeing any more and I do not blame her for that, most of the days now she lays in her doggie bed on the special pads and I change them a couple of times a day. Something that makes me worry is the fact that I leave on the 7th floor. So although I am planing to take my puppy to potty every 2 hours , I know that I might see some accident or I might catch him sometimes while he is about to potty at home.
What do you suggest me ?
    Using my balcony ?
Using a puppy apartment ( those big crates that are divided and have a bed side and a potty side)?
    Or other solutions?
I am asking because in case if I catch him needing to poo or pee, If I distract him and take him to down stairs to do potty, it will take him ( the quickest possible ) about 3 minutes to be outdoor!
I will be glad to hear your advice

We have two mini aussies. One is now a year old and fully potty trained. Then we have a 5 almost 6 month old puppy who had already been neutered. He pees the second he hits grass and poops almost everytime he’s outside too. He never wants to go back inside until he’s done. Once he is done he runs up the stairs to our door to go back insides. However, he will be walking around, playing, whatever and will just stop everything he is doing and start peeing. I usually always catch him in the act since we are giving him designated play time and kennel time. I’ll say no and scoop him up and say outside as we are heading out and he will always finish up his entire business outside and wait to come in until he’s done. We’ve had him for around 4 months now and still cannot get him to tell us that he needs to go outside. We figured he may learn from our other dog who is fully potty trained but he isn’t learning from him and he isn’t catching on the the things we have tried either. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi there, Big O Family! I don’t like the idea of tethering your puppy. This might be the perfect opportunity to give her a little “job”. Maybe you can place down a little bed or blanket and give her something to chew on while you do your tasks. To be honest though, you need to make sure you focus on quality time out of her kennel instead of quantity. If she spends 5 minutes working with you on some of her basic skills, or has an engaging play session then goes and rests in her crate while you do the laundry, that is a better option for her. It teaches her that you are always worth listening to because you’re so much fun, and she won’t have an opportunity to sneak away while you’re distracted and get into mischief! Happy Training ~Ken

We'll spend about 30 min outside in the grass and he goes pee and pooped but seems like 10 min later he poops or pees again

@@MJ-nc7ec Try to keep any play to a minimum so that they know why they are there. Maybe keep him out a little longer. My dog pees 3 or 4 times after the first long pee. I'm having trouble K owing his signs he wants to go out. No bells please... Good luck!

For a dog that size, make sure you have your house-line on and simply take them outside immediately with no stopping along the way, Dr K😉. Being able to get your puppy outside as soon as you can will help by hem to be successful. Happy Training! ~Ken

Hi there. First of all I love your channel. In my opinion it’s the best on UA-cam. We just welcomed a 9 week old French Bulldog puppy into our home. Potty training has been a rollercoaster. I know can’t be spiteful but it seems like every time I tell him no or redirect him he pees 15 seconds after. What am I doing wrong???

what is your next thing you gonna do? I have the same probem. I tried everything that was said in these videos and I am actually about to give up on my dog. I love him, but he doesnt care to do his business anywhere in my flat. Even tho I clean it up and watch him and go 5x a day out with him, he does it. Call me a cruel person, but I am afraid, that if this continues, then there may be once a day, when I completly give up on him.

Have you talked to a dog trainer in person? Your dog is not an idiot. I wonder if you haven't stressed the dog or been confusing the dog. Have you hit or yelled at the dog? If so, you are undoing any training. You need to have a schedule. You need to control food. You need to control the dog's access to your home until it is housebroken. You need to build on success so you can't let the dog pee all over the house. You need to move quickly to get the dog outside as you anticipate when it will need to go.

@@lukashorvath8797 I suspect your dog is very aware that you are stressed. Have you yelled at the dog or hit the dog? If so, you have undone your training. You need to have a schedule and then anticipate when the dog needs to go outside. You need to set the dog up for success so you do not let it have access all over your home until it is housebroken. You need to move quickly when it's time to take the dog outside. Keep calm and have cue words ("go pee"), then praise praise praise if the dog pees. Stay outside for awhile to let the dog relax enough to go pee. It takes a lot of repetition for dogs, just as it does for people to be successful.

My puppy is 18 weeks. He’s learning but he still pees and poops in the home. I’m very frustrated my sister and my mom always make a big deal out of it which makes me sick. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be mad i’d furious. He’s learning.. we’re getting there I think.

Hey McCann dog training, I have a seven month old four pound yorkie/miki mix at home. We just moved a month ago into a home that has carpet. I find my puppy is constantly having accidents on the carpet opposed to the pee pad on the tile. He uses the pee pad sometimes and the carpet other times..he also hides to go poop in various places and seldom poops on his pee pad. I want to start outdoor training him, but he doesnt handle the ice cold weather very well even with a coat on. Any suggestions?
