    This was sooooo good. Thank you for taking the time. I'm a middle school math teacher and am still able to use a lot of your recommendations for resources as there are usually resources by the same author or in the same series for math 6-8. Even four years in, I still feel like a new teacher!! Videos like these are a great help.

    I'm going into my 10th year teaching, and I appreciate your advice. I just ordered The Book Whisperer to take on my camping trip for some reading and I am glad to hear it receive such positive reviews!

      I LOVE The Book Whisperer! Sometimes "teaching" in a more simple manner is better than all these lessons to be a better reader.

    I got a ton of my books from a retiring librarian and so many from the thrift store at REALLY good prices. I love your videos Tina! I can't wait to start my first year in third grade!

    Awesome advice... Next year I'm going from being a 4th grade Reading/Writing teacher to teaching all subjects again to 4th graders which I did a couple of years ago. I'm going to get the math books you suggested for sure. I'm always looking to sharpen my teaching skills especially in Math!

    I feel like I got so blessed. This is my first full year teaching and the person who is leaving the position is leaving me everything...easel, wall decorations, books, storage, etc. I feel like I only really need to restock art supplies and get some small accents for the room.

    • @tinabietler
      @tinabietler  8 років тому

      You are indeed very blessed. A lot of times when a teacher is retiring everyone else in the building raids the room and snatches up everything before the new teacher is hired! Make sure you get in there ASAP and write your name on everything with a paint pen!! :)

    Tina: I love your videos and book recommendations! I ordered both the Book Whisperer and Cafe. I must say, I'm over half way through the Book Whisperer, and I love it. The Cafe book - I skimmed through, and as a first year teacher, I am impressed with all the strategies that are offered. I didn't want to order the Daily 5, since the series my district has is Wonders Reading series, but I thought Cafe may offer some suggestions. Boy, does it ever! Thanks again for all you do!

      My school district also has a reading series. I chucked it to the curb! Only 7 kids in my class was actually reading at the level of the reading series. for the other 23 the reading text was NOT a good fit book. I had 3 kids who were far superior than the series unwound have been held back by it, and then the others were reading far below grade level.

    Hey Tina! Love all of your videos! I'm sorry you are not having much luck with your math program. If you need/want something else to supplement your math curriculum I highly recommend the Saxon math series! My school district I graduated from used this series in middle and high school and I loved it!! I wish the district I was going to at the time would have used it! The series has materials for all grades K-12, and aligns with common core standards. If you are interested. reply and I'll send you some info on it :) Have great weekend!!

    I'm a 20-year veteran teacher but I still watched every minute of this! My only issue is your mention of Netflix! Did you know that it is illegal to use your personal account to show in a public school? As a media specialist we are finding more and more teachers using Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc, but it violates the agreement you sign when you pay for your membership. Discovery Education and School Tube are much better options. Love your videos!!!

      +Tina Bietler Hi Tina I have 3 questions I have been a teacher for 1 year for 4th grade For my butcher paper is a dark blue and I have yellow peckin boarder is that a good look I should use a anther thing why did you have pink butcher paper in your classroom I saw your desk video you had pink why did you have it and I still packing up my classroom should I take down all my bulletin board downs for next year to have fresh new bulletin board for next year or not.

    • @tinabietler
      @tinabietler  8 років тому

      If the paper is still nice and undamaged I say leave it up unless you wish to have a different look to the room. The pink paper is from one of my older videos. This past year I did not have pink paper in the room, only black.
      Also, coming from Michigan, I have to say that dark blue and yellow border would look very classy. ;)

    There is a math framework out there called CMI (Comprehensive Math Instruction) that very thoroughly goes through lesson planning from concrete to abstract. It's worth a google search and read.

    Hi Tina! What do you recommend for selecting appropriate strategies in applying various types of graphic organizers during instruction? Is there a book you recommend for that?

    • @tinabietler
      @tinabietler  8 років тому

      I love using Thinking Maps. My district purchased the program and it is by far the best set of graphic organizers ever but I have NO IDEA how much it cost for the district to buy each teacher a set. They come in a binder with full explanations of how to use each one and even directions for teaching how to teach the children to use the organizers without you.

    I hope you know how helpful your videos are. 💗. Have you ever heard of the classical method of teaching? I'd love to hear your opinions on it. 😊

    • @tinabietler
      @tinabietler  8 років тому

      I have not heard the term "classic method" before. The title makes me think of old-fashioned, or teaching from the olden days. While I can appreciate that, todays children don't behave, react, or learn like kids did "back then." Still, I may be totally off base because i am not familiar with the term.

    • @seasonalliving2881
      @seasonalliving2881 8 років тому

      I had never heard the term "classical method" until recently either, but apparently it is sort of old fashioned and the way most people were educated up until about the 50's in America. Its a way of teaching where kids are split up into 3 developmental levels: the grammar (elementary) stage, dialectic (middle school) stage, and rhetoric (high school) stage. And they are taught ways of learning vs. "subjects" like I was taught. The strands of learning are grammar (taught through Latin), logic (through math), debate (through geography), exposition and composition (obviously reading and writing) and so on. We are homeschooling this year and this is the method we chose to go with. Its amazing how many ways there are to teach! My hats off to you, as teachers are truly my heroes!
