Here we gooo!! An intense, crazy first week in Mexico that's only got us more excited for what's to come! And of course, we've launched our merch! Click here to shop! - www.shopchescaandben.com. Loads of time to order before Christmas, let us know what you think of the designs! ✨ Love you all, thank you for being such a special part of this journey with us ✨
@@OverlandingSophia could talk for ours about our love for Mexico and in fact it's still a contender for where we buy land and open our campground after this trip. I know you guys are on a bit of a deadline but if you can try to make it to these three places. * Cascada De Tamul (One of the best waterfalls we've seen on this trip!) * Las Pozas (Crazy garden built by an eccentric millionaire in the 1900's) * Restaurant Teocintle in Oaxaca. Mind blowing Mexican taster menu. Michelin start in quality, not in price 👌 * Las Pozas
That campground in Tepic is a gem. We stayed 3-4 days on our way to the coast. They gave us some of their ripe red bananas grown there and there's a paleta shop a few blocks away where we stocked up and filled our freezer with fruit popcycles! I think a lot of peeps just stay overnight and power through but we explored a bit and were happy we did that....being the "slow-mads" that we are....
You're my UA-cam highlight of the week! Looks like you're having a fabulous time. I love travelling vicariously through you guys. Keep up the good work! 👏 xx
Wow what a fabulous first week on mainland Mexico - looked amazing - Love how you had a drink in your hand the whole day LOL!!! Is it weird to have fond memories of the funeral we went to in Turkey.?? Sending big hugs from us xx
Haha when in Tequila 😂 The Turkish funeral was so fun in the strangest way. Yes it was a funeral but the people at that funeral were celebrating life too, and my memories are of you chatting French to those guys, the locals feeding us lahmacun and then getting led into the fields to detour around! All the magic of travel condensed into that singular moment in time ❤️ xx
Oh wow. What a fantastic experience. The villages are so colourful. That island was amazing. And as for Tequila, what a fabulous place. Totally different way of life. Absolutely Awesome Adventure Both. Keep Loving It. Big Hugs ❤
¡Arriba, Arriba! ¡Ándale, Ándale! Even Scout has caught the Mexican vibe with his zoomies around the park :) So much fun! The merch looks amazing! Well done.
Hi Chesca and Ben, another very interesting vid, glad your first week was so much fun, hope the next is as much fun, Chesca, loved your hair in a bun, looks so much like the locals may wear, have another safe week, regards Rick and Susan Banks
First week in Mexico was full throttle.Im surprised you made it to the end of the vlog sober!Great food ,great times an adrenaline rush of a vlog. All the best!
It appears they are not shy with the amount of Tequila poured in each drink. Very nice, and those Tequila drinks looked very good. I've only had it as straight shots with salt between the thumb and forefinger, followed by a lemon wedge in the mouth. Terrific video, terrific place...
Swag looks great! I want to go to Mexico. River seems to like sitting up and napping in the seat behind you in a lot of videos. Scout mad twist and bolt was a hoot. See ya next Sunday. Safe travels.
Tequila it makes me happy, Tequila, with salt lemon and lime...🎵🎶 Who remembers that song? Had it stuck in my head when you mentioned Tequila 😂 That little village looks so cool, loving the bright colours and the summer vibes 😍 That's how funerals should be, a celebration of life and bright colours. They're far to depressing here in the uk imo.
Yess we were singing that one too! 😂 💃 Totally agree about the funerals, seeing the cemeteries here too is amazing, full of colour and flowers and life still! 🧡 xx
Binge watched all your episodes from Nova Scotia up to date in the last two days! Really enjoying the trip. Found you while investigating shipping our Moho to Canada - the episode talking about the shipping process was really helpful🙂👍
Hey Guys, so happy to be here on time, what a fun packed time you’ve had! The area does look so green 🌴 🇲🇽.. and I’ve never seen a mini tornado 🌪️.. wow the island village looks great from above! So colourful too.. So much Love for River and Scout there.. a road jam is always an interesting experience.. what do you think of night time driving? Is it risky? The campsite 🏕️ is a nice little area, very cheap.. Yay, The Merch!! Amazing work!! Love the Mario Kart countdown and scout running.. 😂😂😂😂 Tequila Singing 🎵.. so many sounds at once!! Tequila punch “right in the face” 🥊 😂😂.. yeah when I saw that photo of the men swinging, I’d thought someone was jumping lol.. the night life seems just as vibrant as the day! Funeral by day, wedding by night.. you’re doing so well! So much celebrating 🥳.. the mariachi bank are good, I don’t want to blow my own trumpet 🎺 so I’m glad they did theirs! 😂😂.. have fun, see you on the live. 🙏❤️🇲🇽
Night time driving wasn't too bad as it wasn't fast... it's hard to drive fast in the streets here as there are speed bumps everywhere, and we didn't feel unsafe in anyway. But always a bit unnerving and we don't want to make a habit of it! 🙈 Yeah the dancers were amazing! The flute music too was almost hypnotic. I'm sure we'll see more of them as we head further south. LOL at the mariachi joke, I'm going to have to band you from making these dad jokes soon Mark 😜 Lots of love, see you soon! xx
We were just thinking a montage of Ben's food and drink reactions would be quite funny as well as one with all the cheeky games you play on each other. Wow Mexico looks exciting.
Loving the vibe in this one. Never wanted to be there with you more. You guys deserve so many more followers, yer killing it. Off to check out some merch. Hope you ship to NZ!
One more wedding and you can say you have been to 2 weddings and a funeral lol lovethe maddness of the firworks💥 remember dont drink and drive lol have fun take care 👍👍
What an amazing experience you’ve had in your first taste of the real Mexico. Tequila looks an absolute blast. Just hope Sophia and the dogs were far enough away from the fireworks, unless they aren’t frightened of them. Roll on next week.
We were a good 15 mins from the centre so the fireworks shouldn’t have been too bad! Saying that, they seem to have had fireworks every single night since we arrived here so think we’re all getting used to it! 🙈 💥
Ah no way! Some other friends said it was a ghost town when they went. It was pumping when we were there, but it was a Friday so maybe that had something to do with it! 💃 xx
1, 2, 3, .....zoomies! Dogs just love to do zoomies, don't they? Looks like all of you had a good time in Tequila. That little island of Mexicaltitan was something I hadn't heard of before, glad you were able to share it with us. Can't wait to see more, happy travels!
Ahh so interesting seeing your experience in Tequila! When we visited it was a bit of a ghost town 😂❤ We’re excited to see where you head next ☺️🙌 Enjoy!
No way! It’s almost impossible to imagine it like a ghost town 😭 Friday night was popping, and that wedding crowd with the band and fireworks definitely helped liven things up! Xx
That was brilliant, right up my street and I wish I was there! Any chance you can tell us the occasional food and drink prices please? It all looked amazing. Can’t wait for the next episode.
Where ever we are in the world we partake in FNC... Friday Night Club, at around 6pm... Carried over from our work days. Seems like Tequila is a great place for an FNC so added to our travel list.
Wow looks like a fun place alcohol explosives all mixed into one. Good job left dogs in Sophia might not have liked the fireworks. Looking forward to seeing more. Good luck with the merch it looks great, well thought out designs. Hasta lavista guys.
Haha all the fun stuff! 😂 Yeah it would have been way too hectic with the dogs, those fireworks would have traumatised River. If this is week one, no idea what the rest of Mexico will hold! Adios amigo 🥰🧡
Glad you are having a good time in Mexico, you got your taste of tequila and enjoyed the culture, very good designs in your clothing offerings, yes that was a beautiful encounter with the black wolf. I believe Canada and Alaska have largest population in the World and the biggest ones too.
Looks like so much fun. After all that driving it must’ve felt so good to relax and let loose. Tequila is my drink of choice, although I rarely drink, but when I do I like a good quality tequila. I find it’s more like a type of high, than feeling drunk. Stay safe and have fun. Hugs from Nova Scotia, Canada 🍁 🇨🇦
Yes!!! Omg you have summed it up perfectly. While we felt tipsy we didn’t feel drunk-tipsy, just kinda high on life. Think it’s our new favourite now too 😋
We all want to be there with you guys, looks amazing, food looked fab, liked the Tequila cups, how much were they? Safe travels and love the merch, wife loves wolves.
Hi guys, wow, looks amazing there. Checked out your website, love the stuff. Now to decide what I want. Cool here in NS, -11 last nite ,+3 today, quite nice. A slight bit of snow on the ground 1-2 cm. Ben,switching careers, maybe modeling? Such a pose 😂❤. Stay safe ❤
Sorry I took so long to comment. How much fun for all of you!!~ I was expecting Ben to do zoomies around the van after your nite out. Great stuff be safe. Love. Cheers, keep the faith. Dean p.s. Merch do I get another post card? The last one was from Greece.:)
To note. Tequila is not the spirit, it’s the region , Agave is the alcohol drink. Just like in France Champagne is the region the drink is sparkling wine.
@@sean-au Agreed. Also thinking about it, Tequila isn’t the region, it’s just a town. The geographical protection applies to 4 states, one of which is Jalisco. So tequila is definitely the spirit they sell. Agave is the plant they make it from. Sorry Ernie!
I travel frequently to Mexico- Guadalajara, etc (not tourist traps like Cancun), and as much as I enjoy it, culturally it seems frozen in time. (much like other other Latin American countries I have visited). It’s perpetually 1935 - or before… Watch a 1940’s ‘flying down to rio’ type of movie (or perhaps ‘the treasure of the sierra madre”), and the music is the same, etc.. It would be like the west still enthralled with new generations of tuxedo clad ‘big bands’, still cranking out orchestral dance hall music, with the occasional crooner on vocals…
Guessing that spicy stuff on your rims is Tajin ('tah-HEEN'). DELICIOUS on fruits like mango, watermelon, tomatoes. 😋🤤 Tequila is a slippery slope! Lots of flavors to explore, especially when you start dipping your toes into mezcal. A fascinating process with lots of work, patience, & tradition behind its production. Is a visit to an agave plantation in the itinerary? In addition to the margaritas and batangas, may I recommend a mezcal Bloody Maria? Basically a Bloody Mary with the vodka substituted out. One of my favorites! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Yes!! We later found out 1) It was tajin and 2) we'd had a jar of it and threw it away by mistake. So... that was a sad realisation 😂 Got to try it on mango! Maybe on pineapple too?! We had wanted to visit a distillery but the two we wanted to go to didn't work out for various reasons, so we're hoping to go to a mezcal distillery at some point! And Bloody Mary's are the work of the devil.. spicy tomato and alcohol, sorry Aaron but I can't even consider it 🤢 🙈 xxx
Looks like you had just enough Tequila to keep you from running for your lives when the fireworks went off LOL....If that's any indication of whats to come you're going to have lots of fun.I'm looking forward to next weeks adventure Karl from eastern Canada
Haha you just have to embrace the craziness! 😆 Have NO idea what the next few months hold if this is week one. Hope you’re holding on tight cause we have a feeling this is going to be a wild ride 😛 xx
I have only seen dust devils in southern California in one spot, on the street outside the oldest school in southern California. It is reported the Spanish actually spied on human sacrifices in Mexico.
She sometimes does! Most of the time she’s asleep on my lap but I’ve realised when I start vlogging she sits up, the beep of the camera turning on makes her sit up?! Not sure why 😆🤷♀️
Im just getting back into watching your videos again , and maybe you've addressed this and I havent seen it so please dont all jump on me for saying this . Are you not a little bit concerned about how you will be received in Argentina given the differences between our two countries over the Falklands ?. It may have been 41 years ago but tensions are still running a bit high , and I cant help but remember the reception that greeted Clarkson , Hammond , and May when they travelled to Ushuaia ( but clearly didnt quite get there ). Personally I wouldnt go to Argentina but then I remember the Falklands very well and am of a different generation to you both. Again ,, please be nice in the comments as its a genuine concern for you both .
Not at all! Ben's dad was in the Falklands when he was in the navy so it's not a topic to shy away from. Regarding the Top Gear stuff... we honestly think most of that is manufactured and not to be considered the reality of travelling. We know lots of UK travellers who've been to Argentina and had nothing but an incredible time. In fact, they've said the Falklands thing never even comes up. It's often the case with political issues, they rarely reflect the reality of every day people. Maybe we might get received badly if we're unlucky to meet the wrong person, but our understanding from people actually on the ground there, is that it's fine. Saying that, we do know Argentina have recently elected a far-right politician who has brought up the Falklands as part of his manifesto. So, that could all change if it becomes politically charged. We have a few friends from the UK who will reach Argentina before us, so will have up to date information before we get there. Hope that clears things up a little! 🙏
thanks for the quick reply , sounds like you have some good connections and know whats what , Im sure you will be fine . Carry on having a great time ( really liked this episode ) take care ,,, and a big hats off to Bens dad , top man . @@OverlandingSophia
We are currently in Chile in our UK plated VW (although it is a classic plate), we plan on crossing to Northern Argentina very soon. We aren't worried about the Falklands, like Ben and Chelsea said, the Top Gear events were dramatised for views. We often find that speaking to locals really does help build relationships and so if the topic does come up, we will definitely try and talk peacefully about it 😊
Love the "historical malaise" of the VW 's in S/America in general. A legacy of the pro Germanic facism that's way before a chap called Adolf. Most of 'em are still "at it".
Wow. Tequila town is vastly different to when I was there twenty plus years ago. We were based in Puerto Vallarta for few weeks and stayed in Guadalajara for a few days. Tequilia was an essential stop on the way. We watched the process; no safety or health considerations, chopping with axes while wearing flip-flops, and drunken flies doing loop-the-loop over the massive vats. We always said we got there just before the tourists found it.
There is a place in the hills outside of PV, that claims to have been in continuous operation since the 1600’s…and it is more primitive than the place you described….all the pits were stone in the ground, etc..
Got to be honest, I don’t think Tequila would have had the same atmosphere without the bands, the voladores etc! Loved the energy there. Would have loved to go to a distillery though. We planned it a little too late though x
We try and be really cautious wherever we leave the van - whether it’s in Europe, the US or Mexico. This place was a big compound with lots of people around, and had many positive reviews on IOverlander so we felt comfortable leaving her there 🙏
FUN and MERCH! Big week, my friends. Enjoy the sunshine, my friends
It has been a big week 😅 Thanks my friend! ✨🙏
Superb. What a great way to end the weekend in the cold, rainy UK. Brilliant video.

We are working on getting some more sticker designs up! 🙏🧡 xx
Wow, I want a tequila drink now ;) Awesome episode. :)
Make sure you add some lemon, lime and orange juice to it, and have a little boogie😉 💃
@@OverlandingSophia Hahaha most definitely. 😉
To note. Tequila is not the spirit, it’s the region , Agave is the alcohol drink. Just like in France Champagne is the region the drink is sparkling wine.
Not 100% sure about that, all I know is if you ask for agave, you’ll get some strange looks!
When I went there agave was the plant and tequila was the spirit they were selling
It’s perpetually 1935 - or before…
Watch a 1940’s ‘flying down to rio’ type of movie (or perhaps ‘the treasure of the sierra madre”), and the music is the same, etc..
Tequila is a slippery slope!
@@OverlandingSophia 😆😁I was the same way about Bloody Marys! The mezcal makes all the difference.
❤❤❤
Looks like you had just enough Tequila to keep you from running for your lives when the fireworks went off LOL....If that's any indication of whats to come you're going to have lots of fun.I'm looking forward to next weeks adventure Karl from eastern Canada
Haha you just have to embrace the craziness! 😆 Have NO idea what the next few months hold if this is week one. Hope you’re holding on tight cause we have a feeling this is going to be a wild ride 😛 xx
how fabulous, how were the heads the next morning - hope we see that next week
Surprisingly good! Although we had to move in a hurry because they were setting up a market where we were parked 🙈🧡 xx
I have only seen dust devils in southern California in one spot, on the street outside the oldest school in southern California. It is reported the Spanish actually spied on human sacrifices in Mexico.
Oldest school in the state
Yes, I should have warned you about driving after dark on the hwy's.
It’s okay, we’ve heard all the horror stories. Thankfully we weren’t on the highways and were pretty close to the campsite 🙏
Does River always sleep with her head against the seat beside you Ches? Can't stop seeing😂
She sometimes does! Most of the time she’s asleep on my lap but I’ve realised when I start vlogging she sits up, the beep of the camera turning on makes her sit up?! Not sure why 😆🤷♀️

🌹🙋♂hi from Turkey.... ❤❤❤
Merhaba! ❤️✨
We often find that speaking to locals really does help build relationships and so if the topic does come up, we will definitely try and talk peacefully about it 😊
Is River afraid of the driving or car sick?
Nope not at all! Just sometimes sits up, she mostly lies across my lap 🧡
😍😍😍
😘 ✨
that was some video
😆
😂😂 Welcome to Mexico?! Xx
Your husband looks like Tyson Fury 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We’re not married 😂
Love the "historical malaise" of the VW 's in S/America in general. A legacy of the pro Germanic facism that's way before a chap called Adolf. Most of 'em are still "at it".
So much to unpack here 😅
Im sure u will get it sorted or someone here will help out
For all our faults in England I see your videos and the way others do things sorry holiday here always
Each to their own 😊
👍🙂🙋👏
I bet you both got up at seven AM on Saturday...lol
Ha not exactly 😂
Do yall get concerned when you leave the van? Break ins theft?
We try and be really cautious wherever we leave the van - whether it’s in Europe, the US or Mexico. This place was a big compound with lots of people around, and had many positive reviews on IOverlander so we felt comfortable leaving her there 🙏
@@OverlandingSophia awesome! Yeah it’s a valid concern when it is our home/ our everything! (Pets included sometimes!) Lovin y’all’s adventures 🎉
