During secondary school in Zimbabwe we learnt a lot about Kenya.....In Geography we learnt about being a top tea producer, second only to South Africa in terms of tourists arrival in Africa and Zimbabwe being third back then, Kenya has large national parks. In history subject we learnt about Kenya independence struggle the Dedan Khimathi and Mau Mau, Jomo Kenyatta and KANU party. We obviously know about Kenyan runners as they have always dominated All Africa Games tournaments and represent Africa very well in Olympics and other world athletic tournaments. In secondary school English literature there were 2 papers, Shakespearean Paper 1 and Paper 2 studying African authors like Chinua Achebe and Ngugi wa Thiongo THE GREAT KENYAN AUTHOR his books were text books for English Literature classes...we know Kenya through the places and setting of his novels

I know Kenya is the East African powerhouse in tea, milk production, tourism, transport, higher education, and tourism. Although very belated, Kenya recently recognized Shona people of Zimbabwean ancestry , and admitted them to registration as citizens. In athletics Kenya continues to dominate regionally and at international games especially Olympics . German Reinhard Fabisch who went on to sire a son with a Zim wife once coached Kenya senior men football team.
Kenya boasts of extensive milling Industry with the Swiss School of Milling now located there.

The other thing my Kenyean brothers and sisters might find interesting is that yellow maize is called Kenya in Zimbabwe. Not sure how that came to be but around 1982, there was a very bad draught in Zimbabwe and the country was importing a lot of mazie. That was the first time yellow got introduced into Zim. Word on the streets was that the maize was coming from Kenya, and since then its been known as chibage che Kenya (Kenya maize), hupfu hwe Kenya (Kenya mealie meal), Sadza re Kenya (Kenya sadza/ugali)….Thinking about it as an adult now, it actually sounds quite funny

The drought that introduced yellow maize meal and consequent yellow sadza known as "Kenya" was in 1992 not 1982. Ironically it was not imported from Kenya, but from elsewhere, I forget now, possibly America, but it wasn't Kenya. Maize meal in Kenya is the same colour as in Zimbabwe. It was just a story that it came from Kenya, and this story went viral - a bit like the recent toe selling story. By the way most Zimbabweans didn't like the yellow "Kenya" sadza as it had a different taste to normal white sadza, but personally I actually preferred it and after the drought ended you could no longer get yellow maize in Zimbabwe which disappointed me.

We learnt about tobacco farming in Zim, of course we all know about the economic hardship in the last 2 decades in Zim, the 2 big tribes of Shona and Ndebele, Victoria falls, the Great Zimbabwe civilization etc. Africans need to learn about each other and their countries.
