Very nice. I like how they are making different sizes of prosthetics "out of the box" now days... It's like the surgeon gets to select the size of a patient's shoe that best fits him/her while the operation is happening.
I think this is my future finger haha. Been lifting heavy ass weights. Cant keep some of my fingers straight anymore at 30yo. Who knows maybe I'll need this procedure in my late 50s

They don't attach to each other? :( That's freaking weird man. So basically the finger ends up being permanently separated from your body on the interior bone level? Cool that this works but it's so weird too.
They are already separated you blithering idiot. When you are an adult, and when you are a kid. The bones aren't connected lmao, otherwise you would be as stiff as a board. The only thing that connects them is stuff like tendons, muscles, skin, and cartilage which is of course tissue that can grow and heal. Those aren't touched in this video. Please do not comment unless you are properly informed as to not misinform someone.
Typically these kinds of replacements benefit people with an inflammatory arthropy. These joint replacements are not as durable as major joints. Also it is for pain relief not strength. In fact you will probably lose strength, but maintain a better range of motion. If you want to not lose as much strength then a fusion is typical for these joints; however, then you will lose more range of motion. Disclaimer: not a doctor, i just work closely with one that specializes in hand orthopaedics. I just think they're really cool. Please correct me if I misspoke. Always love to learn.
As someone with advanced psoriatic arthritis in my early 40's, this is a gamechanger, knowing this exists. My finger joints have been deteriorating since my late 20's, and knowing this is possible changes my outlook on life. Thank you for this.
I have such phalanges. Both hands due to rheumatoid arthritis. In total 8 finger joints with this deformities. I'm 33 y/o and have been suffering from JIA almost 30 years. Lost my walking abilities after damaging hips and knees joints. I was wheelchair ridden about 12 years. After went through multiple major surgeries I regained my walking abilities. Hope one day after managing a smart amount I'll try this surgery at least on one finger. I'm from Bangladesh.
Did I miss the debris cleaning step? I can only imagine how it would feel like to have bones and in your joints. Maybe the body normally takes care of that?

What an amazing way to fix the phalangeal joints! The healing time will also be less. Thank you for the simulation!

I don't think the bones are attached at all in the first place

I never thought of it before. If we can replace hips, knees and shoulders why not smaller joints?!
Probably not as much cases that needed to do such operations. Fingers don't get burdened as much as those bigger joints
